Find/Change Glyph won't change fonts.

Suddenly, huge inexplicable InDesign issue out of nowhere while I'm working under deadline, of course.
Doing a find and change in the Glyph panel, trying to replace all instances of a carrot symbol in Helvetica to a triangle in Zapf Dingbats. InDesign does the find and change, but keeps the font as Helvetica, so I get the obnoxious box with an X in it.
WHAT could possibly be causing this, if not just a bug.

  • Find/Change won't let me load any fonts in the "Find Glyph:" tab

    Hi all,
I'm trying to do a basic find/change to replace the " in a document. However when I try to choose a font family, the tab window is either grayed out or won't let me load the font I need, even though the font is loaded and active. It's very erratic; it will work fine with some files but not with others. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    InDesign v.5.0.2
    OS X 10.4.11

i have the same issue, will only let me find 1/2 fonts trying to do something similar by importing a word document and doing styling by find/change as the writer doesn't and wont use style sheets.

You will need the web browser Firefox installed
    http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-6.0.2&os=osx&lang=en-US
Next you will need to add the following addons
    Theme Font & Size Changer
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/
    NoSquint
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
Theme Font & Size Changer can adjust the size of the type Firefox uses in the toolbar area.
NoSquint remembers per site web page zoom levels and you can set a minimum size for all web pages so any site you visit is made bigger automatically. Safari doesn't do this.
You can see the difference between Firefox and Safari in this picture.
Note: Firefox is highly customizable browser, and I added the green with the yellow type, you won't see that when you first start using it.
It did that to match my desktop picture, grey is depresssing.

  • Help for find/change glyphs script

    Hi everyone!
I need help for creating a script (or modifying existing script) that should replace every Cyrillic character  from an old ASCII font with the same Cyrillic character but from new Unicode font.
For example: Capital letter 'A' GID=107 from old font (Lazurski) should be replaced with 'A' GID=630 from new one (Myriad Pro).
I can do this by using Indesign Find/Change - Glyphs, but this will take me too much time.
So, I need a scrip for this job.
My first attempt was to use the FindChangeByList script by modifying the FindChangelist.txt document, but without success.
Here is what I've used until now:
    1)  glyph {glyphID:107, appliedFont:"Lazurski"} {glyphID:630, appliedFont:"Myriad Pro"} {caseSensitive:false, includeMasterPages:true, includeHiddenLayers:true, wholeWord:false}
    2)  glyph {findWhat:"u00C0", appliedFont:"Lazurski", fontStyle:"Bold"} {changeTo:"0410", appliedFont:"Myriad Pro", fontStyle:"Bold"} {caseSensitive:false, includeMasterPages:true, includeHiddenLayers:true, wholeWord:false} Find ASCII A replace with Unicode A.
Both lines didn't change anything. What is wrong?
    Any help is welcome!
    Regards,
    Veselin
    P.S. Indesign CS5

    Thank you Jongware!
The codes (both ID and Unicode) are correct for sure, but even with correct notation (obviously my was wrong) the script don't change anything.
Here is the line in the FindChangeList:
    text {findWhat:"\u00C0", appliedFont:"Lazurski", fontStyle:"Bold"} {changeTo:"\u0410", appliedFont:"Myriad Pro", fontStyle:"Bold"} {caseSensitive:false, includeMasterPages:true, includeHiddenLayers:true, wholeWord:false} Find ASCII A replace with Unicode A.
    Update:
Finally, I found what is wrong with the script - the properties "caseSensitive:false".
By removing that properties the script works fine.
So, I successfully converted a book with old ASCII Cyrillic font to Unicode Opentype font.

  • How to change fonts in the Finder window

How does one change change fonts in the Finder Window?
I've done it before and I know it's different in the Side Bar and for the fonts in Column View or List View.
It doesn't seem to be in Finder Preferences.
I can't find in in System Preferences.
    It's not in Font Book.
    Where is it???
    TIA

If you click the Action Gear you have the option to change font sizes. I am not sure if changing the font per se is possible without a system hack which I do not recommend.

  • Is there a way to find/change the font of numericals only, within a document in indesign?

Is there a way to find/change the font of numericals only, within a document in indesign?

It might not be what you need for this document, but if you were creating it from scratch, a GREP style would probably be the way to go. That way,  new figures added to the text will  automatically be styled the way you like.
Start with a base Paragraph Style (i.e. 'Body') that all subsequent styles ('Heading' etc) are based on. Select a figure, and apply the font and any other attributes required. Select it and make a new Character Style. In your Paragraph Style, go to GREP Styles, and set it to apply the Character Style to the 'Any Digit' Wildcard.

have recently upgraded and am finding my iMac won't wake from a sleep state 80% of the time. What do I need to change or do to prevent this?

    Hi 02SilverSport,
Try using the power button to wake the iMac.
OS X Mavericks: Using the power button

If you are using a wireless keyboard or mouse, check out this article:
OS X Mavericks: Wake your computer with a wireless mouse or keyboard

And for more generic troubleshooting, try this one:
OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5357
where there's a section for "Your computer cannot wake from sleep" and "Your computer is slow to wake from sleep".

  • Where to find how to change font size

My emails that I receive are printed so small that I can not read them. I want to change font size.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Yes, File> Page Setup -Scale worked for me, but the-edmeister didn't talk about the settings. When I went to scale, mine was set at 60% and printing maybe 4 or 5 point font it seems. I changed the "Scale" to 100% and now my att.net emails seem to print at about 12 point with Times-Roman. Glad i found this fix tonight as I could print correct size on IE, but I surely didn't want to start it every time I wanted to print an email.......

  • Changing font without changing size with paragraph stylesheet

I need to change the font of many paragraphs without affecting different text sizes within the paragraphs.
I have a huge document...45,000 phone listings/400 pages. Each business listing (as opposed to residential) has a unique text string after the phone number ( |||B ) which will eventually be deleted. I want to do a Find/Change on that text string and change the entire paragraph it's in to a different font without impacting the different font sizes within the paragraph. But when I try to set parameters for the stylesheet, I can't just change the font, I have to change the size also.
Using a character stylesheet won't work, as it would only change the font of the text string itself.
Is this impossible using style sheets? Can it be done with a script? I've never used InDesign scripts so I'd need detailed instructions if that's the answer. Or am I doomed to manually change the font on 3,100 paragraphs in my document?
Thanks to all you keeners out there for any help you can offer.
    Patti

    I'm a little confused.
Do you currently have paragraph styles defined? I would probably approach this by defining a paragraph style for the main listings. You can do that by selecting some type and holding the Alt (Opt) key while clicking the new style icon on the panel, or by selecting new style from the panel menu. That style should be what is applied to all the text to start.
Define a second style for the business listings. You can base this on the first style, and change only the font. You don't need to enter a new size unless you wish to do so. Any attributes you don't change in the new style definition will be preserved, and will change to match the base style if you edit it.
Do your find/change and in the change format dialog specify the new paragraph style, but leave the actual change field blank. This can be done a plain text search. You will need two passes, one to format the paragraphs, and one (with the change format field cleared) to remove the suffix.
A GREP expression would probably work, too, but my GREP is rudimentary and I can't seem to find an expression to find |||B -- my attempt  was (.)|||B$ which I thought would find any character followed by |||B at the end of the paragraph, and I would replace with $1 to preserve the character before and delete the suffix at the same time as changing the format, but it's picking up all sorts of stuff in the middle of the paragraph, so I suspect the pipes have a special meaning.
Character styles should be used to change only things that are special and need to be different from the standard paragraph definition, not for formatting the entire paragraph.
Yes, I have paragraph styles defined. I used them, along with a bunch of other unique text strings, to create separate paragraphs of each type of info in each listing, and then style them. I then used the same search strings to remove the paragraph breaks (and the search strings) to put the listings back to together into a single paragraph (but you have to break the link to the style before you remove paragraph breaks or your text will reformat itself back to the style on the previous paragraph.
The main problem is that I neglected to make a special find/change on the address and phone number to make them bold. Now I have 48,000 paragraphs (listings) with nothing but that |||B search string at the end of each of the business listings. And it took me two full work days just to get to this point, so I really don't want to go back to square one at this point.
I know this is hard to describe and understand. I really appreciate your help though!!

  • How do I change font and colors back to default?

I have changed the font and color of the text through the tools button and the options button and the content tab. I find nothing telling me how to change the font and colors back to default font and colors. Can you advise me? I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Thanks.

    Hi Brenda19605,
You can use this article to set the fonts and colors: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-fonts-and-colors-websites-use?esab=a&s=font&r=0&as=s
The default settings for the font are in this article:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Some%20text%20shows%20up%20bold%20after%20upgrade
Unfortunately for the default colors has no good reference. But for text it is black (most lower left) color, background is white (most upper left color). Unvisited links is blue (column 8, row 5) and visited link is purple (column 9, row 5).
Let me know if you need anymore help!

  • How to Open Find/Change with menuAction

    Hi,
Read the question carefully I'm asking how to open the Find/Change
dialog, not how to toggle it.
    Toggling is easy enough:
    app.menuActions.itemByName("$ID/Find/Change...").invoke();
But if it is open, this will close it, and vice versa.
I'm wondering if there's any way to specifically make sure it's opened?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    Hi Ariel,
This probably won't help but see https://forums.adobe.com/message/4413557#4413557
If you could perform some action that will fail if the panel is closed then you could use a try catch to determine its state.
I'll leave it to you to think of what that action would be.

  • FrameMaker 8 (Unstructured) - How to Find/Change "Referenced File" location globally?

    Hello,
First off, I have a FrameMaker 8 (Unstructured) book that links ALL of its graphics, to a separate graphics folder on my network drive.
With that said, I am hoping to do the following:
    1. Create a mirror copy of "Book A" and place that copy in another folder, (at the same level) on my network drive.
    2. Open up the new book file (e.g. Book B).
    3. Run a Find/Change to replace:
    ..\..\..\Graphics Catalog A\Graphics\a000123.png
    ..\..\..\Graphics Catalog B\Graphics\b000123.png
The end result is that I could globally map out all the "Referenced Files" to the new folder path structure. This will allow me to save from having to manually re-import each of the 1000 graphics - into my book files.
Finally, I am hoping to do this with the built in capabilities of FrameMaker 8 first. If that is not possible, then I will consider other possibilities.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Regards,
    Jim

This is how you do it:
Outside of FM, copy the "Book A" folder and paste it where you want.
Also, create the Graphics folder and file structure (i.e.
    "... Graphics Catalog B\Graphics ...")
Before you open Book B in FM, temporarily rename the graphics
folder that the FM files in Book A uses, e.g. "Graphics Catalog Z".
Now, when you open the files in Book B, FM won't be able to find
the old graphics since the folder name has changed. For each file,
FM will open the "Missing graphics" dialog, where you need to
browse to the new graphics folder, e.g. "Graphics Catalog B\Graphics".
Select the correct file that FM asks for, and tick the option to
use this folder for all remaining graphics.
If all the image file names are identical, you will only need to
do this once per FM file. If you really need the image file names
    to differ like you said:
    > ..\..\..\Graphics Catalog A\Graphics\a000123.png
    > ..\..\..\Graphics Catalog B\Graphics\b000123.png
then you need to select the correct file name for *each* graphics
that FM cannot find. This is a good reason to keep the file names
identical, even though the folder name has changed.
When all the files have opened, rename the original graphics folder
    back to "Graphics Catalog A".

how to change font size on screen

I'm not certain what font sizes you wish to change, when on a page you can use command and the += button to zoom in and make the fonts larger. On the finder desktop you can make what ever is on the desktop larger or smaller from the finder menu click view, custom view options, and adjust the icon size with the slider on the top, and the text using the text size box to select the size that your comfortable with.

I try to find place where possible change font siza but don't found anything
    Please help

AFAIK there is no way to customize this font size. You can't resize the window either.
You need to report it to Apple Feedback so it can be logged and put in the queue to be fixed.
