Find/Change w/Multiple items on clipboard/cursor

WinXP, IDCS3 5.0.2
Is it possible to find/change with the change to contents of clipboard when multiple items are loaded to cursor (change to = ^c) but w/1,2 or 3 or someother code to tell it which loaded cursor item to change to??
thanks
sandy

A loaded cursor is not the clipboard. Replacing with ^c gets you the
contents of the clipboard, not the contents of a loaded cursor. There is
only one clipboard, so no matter how much text you copy, whatever you
last copied is what you're going to get with ^c. No choices.
What is it you want to Find/Replace? Maybe there's some other way to
accomplish it.

  • Save Multiple Items to Clipboard

I'm not sure if this has been posted but anyway, I've been getting this message recently every time I sync my iPod touch to my Mac for a while now. The message is something like "Cannot sync "Save Multiple Items to Clipboard" to this iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod. I'm not sure what this app, or playlist or file or whatever it is because I don't see it in iTunes nor do I remember ever dealing with such a thing before. Any ideas?

  • Find/change across multiple docs in book without opening all first?

I am working on a book that contains hundreds of individual documents. I would like to be able to find/change globally across all documents, but as far as I can tell, I must first open all of the documents in the book so that the scope menu in the find/change dialog contains "All Documents" as an option. Needless to say, having to open more than a dozen or so documents causes my computer to bog down and it's practical.
Am I missing something here? Is there a way for me to make global search/replaces across all docs in a book without opening them? If so, how?

I'm not able to check this now, but I believe that FrameMaker can open closed book documents to perform spell checking on them. FM leaves the files open, whether or not corrections were made. I'm not sure if such opened files, in which no corrections have been made, need to be saved when closing them, but the user must close them. Files that contain cross-file cross-references are by default checked for valid cross-reference links, which requires the user to choose Save or Don't Save in order to close them, even if no corrections were made. The link-checking is considered to be a change; some folks consider this a bug, others a feature.
I agree that it's a good feature to request for ID. A related feature request would be the ability to open next or previous ID files when paging through to the start or end of a file that's a member of a currently-opened book.

  • Apply Find/Change to multiple records at once?

    Hi,
I'm wondering if there is a way to apply the find/change options I select to all the records I've Data Merged into my InDesign file.
The placeholders won't import the spaces in my database, example if I have
    InDesign template:     <<bird>>
                                            <<beak>><<beak value>>
    .csv:                              bird,beak,beak value
                                         Eagle,beak:        ,hooked
    I get
    InDesign after Data Merge:  Eagle
                                                     beak:hooked
No spaces came over with the merge.  If there is an option to preserve spaces, that would be the easiest solution. However, I'm not finding such a command, so I'd like to add a special character after my colons in the .csv and then use ID to find/change that character in every one of my records into a space or two.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.
edit: Even on a single record, the find/change isn't applying to my output document, either... Its outputting the special character I wrote into the  .csv fields instead of the space it is supposed to change into.

Thanks, but I already wrote <space> into the .csv fields where I need spaces. Sometimes I just want a space and it doesn't necessarily come after a colon.  However, that's not really the problem I'm trying to figure out.
    1. The recplacement needs to work across all records, not just the one I'm currently previewing.
    2. The replacement doesn't stay replaced when I do the actual merge.
*Just so I'm understanding you right, by "search" are you referring to the "find what:" and "replace" are you referring to "Change to:" in the Find/Change Window?

  • Can I place multiple items on the clipboard?

I often would like to copy multiple items from one venue such as the Internet or a Word document and then paste them somewhere else without going back/forth and copying one item at a time.
Is there a way to do this?

Not the OS X clipboard. But there are numerous clipboard managers around that you will find at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.

  • How to use Find Change to add FC in front of all item numbers?

    Hello,
I am using Indesign CS5 on iMac, running OS 10.8.3.
I designed a product catalog that has 148 pages. Now I need to save the same design and make a new catalog for our wholesalers. On the wholesalers catalog I need to change the item numbers and add FC in front of each item number. How can I use find change to find each item and change them with FC in front of the item numbers? The following are a few examples of the item numbers:
LED-4042 I want to change it to FCLED-4042
UA-42 I want to change it to FCUA-42
    SC-110 change it to FCSC-110
    KN-10 change it to FCKN-10
    etc....
I am hoping there is a fast way to find and change these.  I was looking in to GREP, but I could not figure how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Omar

One way would be to just run it and then *remove* any double FC's -- but GREP can do even more! One of its many functions is to scan ahead for the presence or absence of certain text, and only act when it is (or it is not) there. This is called "lookbehind" (before the text you want to match) and "lookahead" (after the text you want to match).
In this case, you want to find a phrase starting with capitals, but NOT the exact string "FC". That's a job for Negative Lookahead -- Only Match If Not.
    Try this: search for
    \b(?!FC)\u+-\d+\b
... the Replace With stays the same.

  • How to change tax code on multiple items in MIRO?

    Hi all,
I'm entering an invoice using MIRO. The purchase order contains a lot of items for which the tax code is not correct.
I would like to know if there is a way to change the tax code of each item using a mass change function.
If it's not possible in MIRO, is there a way to make the mass change at the purchase order level?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
If that Error will arise maintain the Tax code tab firstly then tick the Calculate tax button.
Ex. As per multiple items tax code problem will arise come back and redo the miro then firstly enter the tax code before the PO number it will update for all the line items.

  • Find/Change Item Numbers and create Table of Contents

Hello! I need help to find all my item numbers and apply a paragraph style to it so I can use them to create a Table of Contents page.
    Sample item numbers
    #12345
    #12345-5
    #12345-20
    #12345-ABC
    #12345/N
I tried entering #^?^?^?^?^? on the Find/Change box and but this will find exactly the 5 characters after the # sign. I wonder if you can find all characters starting with # and until the last characters.
Once I find all the item numbers, how can I apply the paragraph style for only those characters after the # sign? Because I only want to show the item numbers without the # sign on the Table of contents/Index page.
By the way, I have InDesign CS2 which have no GREP function Maybe I can do this without the GREP?
I really appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

You actually have two problems here. The first is to assign the paragraph style. For that you can use GREP.
Find #\d+ and leave the change field blank, but in the change formatting pick the paragraph style. Stricly speaking you only need to find #\d or even just # because a paragraph style applies to an entire paragraph, so assigning it to any character inthe paragraph will assign it to the entire paragraph.
Which is your second problem. The TOC is based on paragraph styles and will include all of the text in each paragraph (up to the character limit for a TOC entry, which I think is 256 characters). You can't make a TOC and only use some of the paragraph. For that you need to use an index, or you need to make hidden or non-pinting frames with only the exact text you want in the TOC and assign a unique style to those.
It's also possible someone has written (or could write) a script that can find text strings that match a pattern such as your numers, assign a character style to them (you could actually do that part in the paragraph style by adding a nested GREP style), then making a list of the text strings along with the page number on which they appear -- almost the same as an index except it would be based on character style, not an index marker.

I am hoping there is a fast way to find and change these. I was looking in to GREP, but I could not figure how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Omar

This could be a very complex GREP - or a very simple one.
4 Examples are good, but we need more concrete examples. In particular, the longest and the shortest example.
LED-4042 I want to change it to FCLED-4042
UA-42 I want to change it to FCUA-42
    SC-110 change it to FCSC-110
    KN-10 change it to FCKN-10
This will find your posted item numbers - but …
    \<\u{2,3}-\d{2,4}
    change to:
    FC$0
AND: exists one or more item number/s with FC at the beginning? I hope it is not so.
    <edit>
A new day, a better solution (This GREP can be used many times in succession. It may already one or more "FC-numbers" be present.):
    \<(?!FC)\u{2,3}-\d{2,4}\>
Or if no similar strings are exists in your document:
    \<(?!FC)\u+-\d+\>
Have fun and give a feedback.

  • Find/Change (Multiple Date Changes in one Find)

Hi ID geniuses, got a question for your gigantic brains.
This may or may not be an easy one...
I do a lot of production work and I'd like to create a Find/Change or even a GREP search that will allow me to change multiple blank dates at once).
the format changes from file to file and follows these 4 formats usually and all 4 formats could be used in one document.
    XX/XX/XX (8 characters)
    XX/XX/10 (8 characters)
    XX/XX/2010 (10 characters)
9/26/10 - wrong date in place already. (6 – 8 characters depending on the month)
Instead of having 4 different searches, is it possible to do one search that look for any of these text formats and change them at once?
    Any ideas/guidance will be appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

    Piece of cake.
Of course GREP comes to the rescue. Enter this in your search field:
    \b((XX|\d{1,2})/){2}(XX|\d{2,4})\b
and it'll find any of your examples. Wot Doth This All Mean?
\b     a Word break -- there must not be a word character before this entire expression. This means it'll ignore "XXX/XX/XX".
(     repeat group -- see below
( XX | \d{1,2} )     Either "XX" (exactly) or "a digit, 1 or 2". This means it'll ignore "XXX/XX/XX" (three exes), pick up "1/2/3" (one digit), ignore "123/123/123" (three digits)
    /     A slash. Nothing special, except ...
)     .. since this is the end of the repeat group ...
{2}     ... we want twice the sequence "XX/" (or "digit/"), to match "XX/XX/" and every possible combo with digits as well.
(     oh yet another group. That's because ...
XX     .. this literal text ...
    |     ... OR ... (hold on, I'm gettin' there)
\d{2,4}     .. two to four digits should be matched ..
)     .. in this entire group.
\b     Phew! A Word break to prevent it matching "12/34/56789"

  • Multiple find/changes into one step?

    Hi there
I have a series of find / changes that I need to do for all the chapters in a book. They'll be the same each time, and rather than do all ten of them for each chapter I'm wondering how I can condense it into one process that I can run on each chapter, perhaps through scripting. Any ideas?
I do have a little scripting experience, but not enough to tackle it myself yet. Is there another way to automate the steps? Or does anyone have some base code I could work from?
    I'm working in CS3 on a Mac.

One of the standard scripts that come with InDesign is FindChangeByList.jsx -- it's installed by default in Application/Samples/Javascript. There is also a VB version.
You don't have to adjust the script; the changes it makes are listed in a specialized format in the file FindChangeList.txt.

As far as i know, no it's not possible.
There has been mentions in the past to this question that a
