Find classes in ear from a outside class

How can we find classes located in a ear from a class that is located outside the
archive? Is it possible?
Regards
Nick

Well, the purpose of an ear file is to bundle your entire application into one
file.
If you have a class B that needs to use class A which just happens to be in your
ear file, I would think that this file resides in a completely different Application
on the server.
If that's the case, then you definitely need to place class A which is in your
ear file into the classpath of the application which contains class B, or into
the same ear file of class B's application.
If not and both are part of the same application, then why isn't class B included
in the ear file to begin with?
Hope this helps..

    I am using Netbeans 5.5 with J2EE App Server 9. I have two entity beans with a OneToMany Uni-directional relationship. I have a Remote Stateless session bean which has persistence operations for creating and searching etc.. I am accessing the remote bean via jndi from a j2ee java client. The access works fine. The session bean persist operation creates data in both the entities (cascade persist).
    But, after the data is created, when I access the entity manager find() method from the session bean via the client errors out. This error only happens for the entities with OneToMany relationship, not for OneToOne relationships.

    It appears to be a bug in Netbeans.
    I have a similar error message with the following settings:
    A session bean remote interface
    be.macharis.toon.pacita.common.OriginFacadeRemoteA session bean implementing the remote interface
    be.macharis.toon.pacita.common.OriginFacadeAt deploying the ejb module, the session bean is loaded in the JNDI registry under the name be.macharis.toon.pacita.common.OriginFacadeRemote (the server log says so).
    I have the following code in a servlet:
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import javax.naming.NamingException;
    try {
        Context ic = new InitialContext();
        OriginFacadeRemote originFacade = (OriginFacadeRemote)ic.lookup(OriginFacadeRemote.class.getName());
        originFacade.setOrigin(componentRegistry, OriginFacadeRemote.ELEMENT_CONTAINER); // <- exception here
    } catch (NamingException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }Yet I get a java.lang.ClassNotFoundException during the EJB method call. The exception does not take place during execution of the method, but before, while the EJB container is still resolving the method. It thus must be a(nother) bug in the implementation of the EJB container.
    And bugs that are outside your control are so much harder to deal with... There was another bug in the EJB container for serialising complex object that I could work around by explicitly serialising the Objects myself to byte arrays. It took me 5 days to do so. I don't know if I will manage to work around this bug. If I do, I will post my solution. For completeness, below my "clarifying" error dump:

  • Cannot find class: Exception??

    Hi
    The compiler claims it cannot find class FileNotFoundException or any other exception in my Main. Any packages I import has no problem. My structure:
    java \ myMain \ Main.java
    java \ com \ myName \ packages //no, the space is just there as visual help:)
    Use javac -classpath java\ @compile.file
    ...where compile.file is a txt file giving the paths and filenames to all files I include.
    This is first time I use the -classpath parameter, but I believed java.lang always was included. What Am I doing wrong.
    regards
    JT

    You should review the tool documentation for the javac command and its use of classpath.
    Your problem appears to be due to the way you defined classpath, "-classpath java\". While you don't provide enough information to conclusively say what it should be, I'm guessing it should also include java\myMain\ - assuming that you're issuing the javac command from the parent of the \java\ directory, as your command example indicates.
    Here is a clip about its use of the classpath.
    "When compiling a source file, the compiler often needs information about a type whose definition did not appear in the source files given on the command line. The compiler needs type information for every class or interface used, extended, or implemented in the source file. This includes classes and interfaces not explicitly mentioned in the source file but which provide information through inheritance.
    For example, when you subclass java.applet.Applet, you are also using Applet's ancestor classes: java.awt.Panel, java.awt.Container, java.awt.Component, and java.lang.Object.
    When the compiler needs type information, it looks for a source file or class file which defines the type. The compiler searches for class files first in the bootstrap and extension classes, then in the user class path (which by default is the current directory). The user class path is defined by setting the CLASSPATH environment variable or by using the -classpath command line option. (For details, see Setting the Class Path).
    If you set the -sourcepath option, the compiler searches the indicated path for source files; otherwise the compiler searches the user class path for both class files and source files."

  • How to find Classes to which characterstics are assigned

    Hi,
    How to find the classes to which a particular characterstics  are assighned in 46B.
    I have characterstics and I should able to find the class/classes to which it is assighned.
    I have a BAPI BAPI_CHARACT_GETWHEREUSEDLIST which does the same as in 5.0 and I want the same FM or BAPI where it is used in 46B.
    Best Regards,
    Mark

    Here's an example of a way to find classes based on characteristics if you need to write your own.  Obviously this is for a report, but you get the idea.
    select-options: s_atnam for cabn-atnam.
    data: begin of t_class occurs 0,
            class like klah-class,
            atnam like cabn-atnam,
          end of t_class.
    select klahclass cabnatnam into table t_class
       from klah inner join ksml
              on klahclint = ksmlclint
                 inner join cabn
              on ksmlimerk = cabnatinn
           where cabn~atnam in s_atnam.

  • Preverification error: Cannot find class com/sun/perseus/model/Viewport

    Hi all,
    I have a (previously) working Midlet to which I have added one line as follows:
    SVGImage image = (SVGImage)SVGImage.createEmptyImage(null);
    - and imported the necessary from javax.microedition.m2g. (I am using the library that comes with the WTK, jsr226.jar).
    This builds, jars, obfuscates fine. But when I try to preverify (using Antenna's wtkpreverify) on the jar, it gives up in disgust very swiftly as follows:
    [wtkpreverify] Error preverifying class javax.microedition.m2g.ScalableGraphics
    [wtkpreverify] VERIFIER ERROR javax/microedition/m2g/ScalableGraphics.render(IILjavax/microedition/m2g/ScalableImage;)V:
    [wtkpreverify] Cannot find class com/sun/perseus/model/Viewport
    I'm using the WTK2.5.1ea and antenna 0.9.14, CLDC1.1, MIDP2.0...
    Many thanks for any ideas.

    Problem resolved simply by replacing jsr226.jar (as distributed with WTK2.5.1ea) with m2g.jar (as distributed with J2MEPolish).

    I'm getting this error trying to compile a program that I'm writing in java. Its a very simple program just to get me back to basics. Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem??

    Extracted from Sun's website,
    * Error Message: "Exception in thread NULL" or
    "Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread"
    If you are getting one of these fatal error messages when running java,
    javac, or appetviewer, you should check your CLASSPATH environment variable.
    It may list "c:\java" or the "classes" directory from an older release. You can either unset the CLASSPATH variable, or set it to
    include only the latest version of the Java platform class library. For example:
    C:\> set CLASSPATH=.;C:\jdk1.1.8\lib\classes.zip
    This will make sure that you are using the correct classes for this release.

  • Java teststand - Error 1500 Cannot find class

    Hi everyone,
    I am using TestStand 2010 and Java 1.7.
    I try to add a java class in the Computer example folder, and call the method.
    The java class is simply like below, because I just want to try calling my own java class.
    I have set the Class Path in Start JVM to the directory where the Computer example (which is also the directory where I put my java class) are located.
    TestStand can call the Computer's methods, but not mine (got error Error 1500 Cannot find class). I put my my java method calling among the defaults Computer example calls.
    Furthermore I have read similiar threads but still I cannot solve the error.
    Where is the part I miss, actually? Please share some insights.
    Note: I even try to leave the Class Path empty, but TestStand still can call the Computer's methods. Why?
    public class TestJava {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    public String returnString(boolean a){
    return "success";
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    In order to load a class that is inside a package you have to use the package notation (or modify the example in order to use it). The path to the class is passed directly to the JVM in order to load the class, but really what is needed is the package from the class path including the full path to the class.
    That means you have to do the following:
    1. Set the class path to the base directory where you built all your classes, if you have the following structure:
    MyFile.java
    builds
    MyPackage
    MyFile.class
    You have to set the classpath to the builds directory
    2. When you configure your steps, you have to set the path to the class in your Java steps to MyPackage/MyFile.class (note separator is a slash, not the usual Windows backslash, so the browse button doesn't quite help with that).
     Another important thing is that when you set the classpath you are deleting the normal class path in Java, if you are using Java classes from the default libraries you might have to add <jre directory>\lib\rt.jar

  • ACME Video demo:JWS setup:Can't find classes

    *** ACME Video demo ***
    *** using: JDeveloper 3.0 (build 532) and JWS 2.0 ***
    I am having great troubles simply getting JWS (v2.0) to acknowlege existence of my WebAppServlet (ie, ACME Video demo). I have been able to use the demo from within JDeveloper's own runtime environment, but then members can't log in to the demo database. So I am trying to use JWS to see if I can get the ACME Video demo working from a real web server, but I keep getting the infamous 404: File not found error when trying to access it from a browser at http://mycomputer:8080/acmevideo.html.
    So to simplify the test I am now just trying to hit the LOAD button from within the JWS configuration manager, but when I try to hit the LOAD button in the JWS servlets tab I consistently get the folowing error:
    Problem Updating Servlet
    Cannot update servlet WebAppServlet:
    Cannot find class for servlet WebAppServlet:
    Could not load class acmevideo.servlet.WebAppServlet.
    So here I am . . . if there is any guidance out there it would be greatly appreciated.
    1) Is it true that I only have to put my WebAppServlet.jar file, along with the libraries listed at the bottom of this message in my e:\acmedir that I set my classpath to before starting JWS?
    2) Why can't I just set the classpath to "e:\acme". Why must I set it to specify each individual archive in the folder when they are all in the same folder?
    3) Does anyone know the logic behind the "acmevideo.servlet.WebAppServlet" naming scheme that is used to define the servlet in the JWS configuration? How does that define WebAppServlet? I have no folders named "acmevideo.servlet", my jar is named WebAppServlet, so I would suspect that I should define it as simply "WebAppServlet" since I have set my classpath to the folder that it exists in. Maybe this has something to do with why JWS can't find it, so can't load it?
    4) How can I check inside the WebAppServlet.jar archive file to make sure that it really contains the class files that should be in there? Maybe I have the wrong jar file? I'm looking at all possibilities at this time.
    4) Boy have I ever spent a lot of time simply trying to view this demo. . . . . I'll bake a pie for anyone who can get this thing working. I may not actually send the pie to you, but I'll bake it in your honor and tell you how good it was.

  • Can't find class error on Tru64 UNIX

    I have written a class, TextProcessor, and I can compile and run it without any problems on my Win2K box. I ftp the source to works Tru64 box and compile the class just fine. When I issue the command "java TextProcessor" I get the msg "Can't find class TextProcessor". I immediately thought I had a classpath issue. I messed around with setting my classpath but without luck.
    I then wrote a new class on the Unix box using vi called Hello.java. I compile the Hello class without a problem. I issue the command "java Hello" and get "Hello!", just like I am supposed to get.
    The 2 classes reside in the same directory, TextProcessor does not have any package statements. I am totaly confused.
    Environment information:
    Tru64 UNIX version 5 or so.
    JDK 1.1.8 (not my choice and I have no control over the JDK)
    JRE 1.2.2 is also installed.
    Please help!
    Thanks

    Maybe.....
    Make sure that you have the permissions necesary to read,write and execute the file from your own account.
    If you canno't find any class maybe is because you cannot read.
    What account are you used to pute the file from Win?
    you can try this...
    chmod 777 TextProcessor.java
    chmod 777 TextProcessor.class
    But......????? uhmmmmmm??
    I'm not sure, because If you can compile then you can read the file, but it's depends you umask ......
    it's only a suggest

  • Error(2): Unable to find class for bean: connection defined by tag...

    I created a project, and a JavaBean that connects to the database and I want to use it in a JSP page that exists in my project.
    Bean:
    package BeerPackage;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class ConnectionBean
    JSP:
    <%@ page import="BeerPackage.*" contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <jsp:useBean id="connection" class="ConnectionBean" scope="session"/>
    Then I get the error:
    Error(2): Unable to find class for bean: connection defined by tag with class: ConnectionBean
    When I try to build the JSP
    Any ideas?

    Seems even though I have an import, I still have to specify the package name in front of the useBean.
    What am I missing here?

  • Cannot find class in same package but in different file

    I have following two source files. Both the file has same package statement as below
    package java.buron.doeacc ;
    But whenever i try to compile File: shoepolish.java ( mainfram.java compiled succesfully before)
    following error message appear
    ..\..\buron\doeacc\shoepolish.java:12: cannot resolve symbol

    symbol : class MainFrame
    location: class java.buron.doeacc.shoepolish
              MainFrame mainFrame = new MainFrame();
    ^
    Please tell me What is the problem and how it can be solved.
    why cannot find the class that are in same package.
    I have JDK 1.3
    FOLLOWING ARE THE TWO FILES
    File: mainframe.java/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    package java.buron.doeacc ;
    import javax.swing.* ;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.* ;
    class MainFrame extends JFrame
         private final String APP_NAME = "Shoe Polish";
         // constructor
         public MainFrame()
              super("Shoe Polish");
              setSize(500, 500);
              setVisible(true);
    File : shoepolish.java
    package java.buron.doeacc ;
    import java.io.* ;
    import java.buron.doeacc.* ;
    class shoepolish
         public static void main(String args[])
              MainFrame mainFrame = new MainFrame();

    The javac compiler uses the Classpath to find classes. If your directory structure is c:\myjava\buron\doeacc (for example) then you need to have c:\myjava in the Classpath when you compile. For example javac -classpath c:\myjava MainFrame.java

  • Unable to find class for bean

    Hello,
    At times, I keep getting this error of unable to find class for bean even though, the definition I used for the Bean in the jsp page is as follows:
    <jsp:useBean id="deptbean" class="avt.DepartmentHandler"
    scope="session"/>
    The Error I get is "Unable to find class for bean deptbean: defined by tag with class: avt.DepartmentHandler".
    I had saved the Java class file DepartmentHandler before attempting on the jsp page which used this.
    I have no clue as to why this is happening. Please do help.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hello,
    I think I figured out why it is happening so, it was because I hadnt compiled the java class files and java bean files. Once I compiled the java files, I was able to get rid of the error.
    Thanks.
