Find data type from value

Hi,
I want to find data type from its value.
Ex- If value = 1234 then its data type is numeric.
      If value = ABCD then its data type is char.
So is there any FM which can tell the data type from its value or any way to do it.

Hai.
check this.
the five non-numeric types (text field (C), numeric text field (N), date field (D), time field (T), and hexadecimal field (X)), there are three numeric types, used in ABAP to display and calculate numbers. Data type N is not a numeric type. Type N objects can only contain numeric characters (0...9), but are not represented internally as numbers. Typical type N fields are account numbers and zip codes.
integers - type I
The value range of type I numbers is -2*31 to 2*31-1 and includes only whole numbers. Non-integer results of arithmetic operations (e.g. fractions) are rounded, not truncated.
You can use type I data for counters, numbers of items, indexes, time periods, and so on.
Packed numbers - type P
Type P data allows digits after the decimal point. The number of decimal places is generic, and is determined in the program. The value range of type P data depends on its size and the number of digits after the decimal point. The valid size can be any value from 1 to 16 bytes. Two decimal digits are packed into one byte, while the last byte contains one digit and the sign. Up to 14 digits are allowed after the decimal point. The initial value is zero. When working with type P data, it is a good idea to set the program attribute Fixed point arithmetic.Otherwise, type P numbers are treated as integers.
You can use type P data for such values as distances, weights, amounts of money, and so on.
Floating point numbers - type F
The value range of type F numbers is 1x10*-307 to 1x10*308 for positive and negative numbers, including 0 (zero). The accuracy range is approximately 15 decimals, depending on the floating point arithmetic of the hardware platform. Since type F data is internally converted to a binary system, rounding errors can occur. Although the ABAP processor tries to minimize these effects, you should not use type F data if high accuracy is required. Instead, use type P data.
You use type F fields when you need to cope with very large value ranges and rounding errors are not critical.
Using I and F fields for calculations is quicker than using P fields. Arithmetic operations using I and F fields are very similar to the actual machine code operations, while P fields require more support from the software. Nevertheless, you have to use type P data to meet accuracy or value range requirements.
C ---> character
D ---> date
P ---> packed
T ---> time
X ---> hexadecimal
I ---> integer.
N ---> Muneric.
Possible ABAP/4 data types:
C: Character.
D: Date, format YYYYMMDD.
F: Floating-point number in DOUBLE PRECISION (8 bytes).
I: Integer.
N: Numerical character string of arbitrary length.
P: Amount or counter field (packed; implementation depends on hardware platform).
S: Time stamp YYYYMMDDHHMMSS.
T: Time of day HHMMSS.
V: Character string of variable length, length is given in the first two bytes.
X: Hexadecimal (binary) storage.

    unknown type. and the return value is a key-value pair data type .

    After you create the partner link and the invoke (to create the variables), change the element type of the response message to the complex type definition of your collection that appears in the XSD. You can do the same thing if you want to change the element type of the payload of the request message as well.

  • Create Data Type from XSD

    Hey guys
    i need to create Data Type from and XSD,in the beginning i had an XML document which i converted to XSD using Altova ,then i imported this XSD in IR under External definition,now how should i go ahead with creating Data Type?
    my sample XSD is something like this
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!W3C Schema generated by XMLSpy v2007 sp2 (http://www.altova.com)>
    <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

    Its not the complete XSD,just the first few lines.

  • How to crete data type from XSD

    Hi All,
    can anyone tell me ...how to create data type from agiven xsd.
    I need urgently....
    thanks in advance....

    import this XSD, load this in your mapping editor and then use this to crate the datatype manually.
    Or, use XML spy, load this XSD and then you should be able to see the Structure, or,
    Look into the XSD data and decipher things yourself

  • How to Update Date data type field value in oracle

    I want to update records in a table that has a Date data type field. It's a oracle databse. I use the oracle thin drive to connect to the database. The everything works well, only when i try to update records that have date type value, something doesn't work.
    I use the following stmt to update DB:
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    Conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:portnumber:schname", "uid","pwd");
    stmt=Conn.createStatement();
    String updStr = "UPDATE Article SET Archive = ' Disable' WHERE ArticleDate = # " + sqlDate +"# " ;
    stmt.executeUpdate( updAStr ) ;
    But I always got the SQLException run time error, which is "ORA-00911: invalid character"
    Who can help me to find out how to write the above Update statement correctly? esp. that how to present the Date type variable in the statement.!
    BTW, sqlDate is a Java.sql.Date variable, Is it "# " + sqlDate + "# " the right way?
    Many thanks

    What do you get out of Oracle's TO_DATE that java.sql.PreparedStatement.setDate()
    won't give you? - MODWell, I don't know that I've used all capabilities of either, but when it comes to managing Date Strings my Oracle bias :) would be to code using Oracle's TO_CHAR and TO_DATE functions. Perhaps someone can tell me vendor neutral ways to do something simiilar to managing these input date/times (and hopefully just as easily, pretty much all done in a single line, single function)?
    WHERE aDATE > TO_DATE('2010','YYYY')
    WHERE aDATE > TO_DATE('2010 AUG 22','YYYY MMM DD')
    WHERE aDATE > TO_DATE( 'January 15, 1989, 11:00 A.M.', 'Month dd, YYYY, HH:MI A.M.')
    I believe most databases have something similar to this, although I have found Oracle's to be the most flexible and consistent, if not the most intuitive. Other vendors (DB2, SQL Server, Access) don't force you to always be explicit, and can accept a variety of date strings without masks. The problem is that while you might not be getting an error, it also may not be parsing your date as expected.
    One could argue that this vendor specific hodgepodge of literal date/time strings is only one program modification away from disaster. They might be right.
    Just to be clear. I'm not recommending using a vendor specific approach, but it's not a perfect world and somtimes you have to use what works easiest or best or fastest, and in some cases, that is the vendor specific alternatives.

  • Convert Data type from Oracle Data time string to SQL Date time data type

    I have a time stamp column pulled from oracle into a SQL server db table varchar datatype column.
    Now i want to change that column to date time.
    Following is the data present in the table:
    01-APR-11 02.15.00.026000 AM -08:00
    01-APR-11 04.15.00.399000 AM -08:00
    01-APR-11 06.15.00.039000 AM -08:00
    I want to convert this data into sql server datetime data type.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Sam.
    I am unable to find the solution in other sites which is why I have posted it in Oracle forum for seeking solution.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sam.

    Sam,
    How are you actually loading the data into SQL*Server - are you using something like an Oracle gateway, BCP or another Microsoft utility of some sort ?
    If you are using an Oracle problem then we may be able to help but if using a Microsoft utility then you should really follow up with Microsoft to know what format the data should be in to use a Microsoft utility.

  • Convert/Cast string data type from file to DT_GUID into table

    Hi to all
    is there anyone who help me please?!?
    I'm not able to resolve the following problem.
    I have a .csv file with a string field A and its values are GUID.
    I must export this .csv file into SQL Server Table which have a uniqueidentifier (GUID) field B.
    I must map string field A to GUID field B of table.
    But I get an error like this: "Error at Data Flow Task [Derived Column [xxx]]: Error code 0x800401F3 occurred attempting to convert from data type DT_WSTR to data type DT_GUID.".
    I read other posts like this in this forum and i also tried the solution suggested in those posts.
    The proposed solution had suggested of insert in the expression field of "Derived Column" Transformation this expression (DT_GUID) ("{" + [YourGuid] + "}") in place of (DT_GUID) [YourGuid].
    But i get always the same error.
    is there anyone who help me please to resolve this issue?!?

    The derived column expression should work if the yourGuid column contains a real guid.
    Does the source looks something like: 25892e17-80f6-415f-9c65-7395632f0223
    And are all rows filled with a correct value or are there also empty strings or null values?

  • Handling RAW data types (from SAP) in Adobe forms - Illegal Arg Exception

    Hi,
          I have a scenario where I have to get data of type RAW in SAP to Adobe Forms using web dynpro java. What is the corresponding type in Web Dynpro / Adobe Forms.
    I am using Adaptive RFC and when I get the model from SAP function module, the RAW type is created as Binary type in the data dictionary of Web Dynpro.
    When I map the model context to controller context, the type is taken as byte[].
    I tried to set the attribute for this field and I got the Illegal Argument Exception error.
    I am using NWDS 7.0.9 and NW04s SP12. Pl help. I am working on this since 10 days but could get no solution.
    The initial exception that caused the request to fail, was:
    <b>java.lang.IllegalArgumentException</b>
    at com.sap.dictionary.runtime.DdTypeBinary.format(DdTypeBinary.java:60)
    at com.sap.dictionary.runtime.DdTypeBinary.toString(DdTypeBinary.java:64)
    at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.clientserver.data.DataContainer.doFormat(DataContainer.java:1405)
    at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.clientserver.data.DataContainer.getAndFormat(DataContainer.java:1098)
    at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.clientimpl.xdp.renderer.data.XfdRenderer.renderAttributes(XfdRenderer.java:370)
    ... 41 more

    Issue with the RAW data types is resolved now. I have changed the data type of the field into String in the dictionary (web dynpro).. I have changed the corresponding getters and setter functions from byte[] to string. And everything working fine now. I got the Illegal Argument exception initially because I was trying to display the binary data type fields on the adobe form or view which I am not supposed to do.
    Also it is better to create separate view attributes in the context to get the values rather than mapping the model attributes directly in the form or view.
    Thank you one and all.

  • Change data type from number(11,6) to number (11,8)

    I have a table, which has a million records...I have to change data type of some of the columns from number (11,6) to number (11,8).
    I thought of taking the backup of the table , truncating the original table, change the data type and then insert data back.
    Is it a safe option considering so many records ?

    the first number is precision and the second is scale:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14196/schema002.htm#sthref472
    so yes, 11,6 can hold larger numbers than 11,8
    create table foobar (two number(5,2),
                         three number(5,3))
    insert into foobar values (123.45,12.345);
    --works fine
    insert into foobar values (123.45,123.45);
    --gives error ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column

  • Data Types from Oracle Sample Schema

    Hi,
    I was trying to push some data from an Oracle Sample schema (Schema: OE Table: Customers) to a target schema. The interface was erroring out because of undefined data types in the model.
    I chkd the model, only to find that some of the data types were undefined.
    I DESCribed the table in the using SQL Client, The data types returned were
    CUST_ADDRESS_TYP
    PHONE_LIST_TYP
    MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY
    I DESCribed the datatypes, They seem to be flexfields of some kind,
    Please advise on how to define these data types into ODI:
    Heres the DESC output
    SQL> desc customers;
    Name Null? Type
    CUSTOMER_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(6)
    CUST_FIRST_NAME NOT NULL VARCHAR2(20)
    CUST_LAST_NAME NOT NULL VARCHAR2(20)
    CUST_ADDRESS CUST_ADDRESS_TYP
    PHONE_NUMBERS PHONE_LIST_TYP
    NLS_LANGUAGE VARCHAR2(3)
    NLS_TERRITORY VARCHAR2(30)
    CREDIT_LIMIT NUMBER(9,2)
    CUST_EMAIL VARCHAR2(30)
    ACCOUNT_MGR_ID NUMBER(6)
    CUST_GEO_LOCATION MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY
    DATE_OF_BIRTH DATE
    MARITAL_STATUS VARCHAR2(20)
    GENDER VARCHAR2(1)
    INCOME_LEVEL VARCHAR2(20)
    SQL> desc CUST_ADDRESS_TYP;
    Name Null? Type
    STREET_ADDRESS VARCHAR2(40)
    POSTAL_CODE VARCHAR2(10)
    CITY VARCHAR2(30)
    STATE_PROVINCE VARCHAR2(10)
    COUNTRY_ID CHAR(2)
    SQL> desc phone_list_typ;
    phone_list_typ VARRAY(5) OF VARCHAR2(25)

    To create MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY datatype, goes to Topology module, Oracle Techonology, Datatypes, and add a new datatype GEOMETRY. (try to fill all information fields with GEOMETRY and see what happens maybe you have to ajust this after but it is a start point).
    add information in from and to tabs according your source and target desired tech.
    Reverse againg your model, or change the datatype in the model datastore. Re-run your interface

  • Call a method with complex data type from a DLL file

    Hi,
    I have a win32 API with a dll file, and I am trying to call some methods from it in the labview. To do this, I used the import library wizard, and everything is working as expected. The only problem which I have is with a method with complex data type as return type (a vector). According to this link, import library wizard can not import methods with complex data type.
    The name of this method is this:   const std::vector< BlackfinInterfaces::Count > Counts ()
    where Count is a structure defined as below:
    struct Count
       Count() : countTime(0) {}
       std::vector<unsigned long> countLines;
       time_t countTime;
    It seems that I should manually use the Call Library Function Node. How can I configure parameters for the above method?

    You cannot configure Call Library Function Node to call this function.  LabVIEW has no way to pass a C++ class such as vector to a DLL.
