Find Duplicate pictures in Organizer

I imported the same pictures from my camera, and put them in several locations. Is there any way in the Organizer to find all pictures which are duplicated, based on visual content?
I know that I can search for up to 4 specific pictures based on visual similiarities, but I want to find all duplicates that are in the catalog.

Hi EdBjore:-
The visual similarity result gives you the percentage of the similarity between all the images in the organizer. In organizer you can select an image and drag it to the top bar i.e. where all the star rating options are present. One another way to do so is by selecting an image, perform righ click and say suggest autostack. This will suggest you to stack the similar images. After these operations you can delete the duplicate images.

Is there a way to Quickly organize, consolidate & save the Original (Pictures, Movies, etc.) yet delete all duplicate (Pictures, Movies, etc.)?

I wanted to first thank you for this, as this is the only workaround literature that seems to be floating around out there.  With that said, I know it is a big ask, but is there any way that you could create a video showing step by step how to do what you do?  I have several tracks that are stuck in waiting mode, and if left in itunes, will never upload or match...they only cause the upload process to hang up and restart.  I've tried leaving it for days...I've tried converting the files, signing in and out of itunes (and itunes match), updating itunes match, and I tried your technique...unfortunately to no avail.  Perhaps I didn't do your technique correctly.  I used audacity to reverse the audio.
ANY help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
    Thanks

  • Find duplicates in aperture

Is there a way to find duplicates/triplicates of the exact same file, especially the master, in Aperture (and iPhoto and iMovie)?
I'm finding that the longer I have Aperture running (referenced files), seems the more duplicates I am having show up.
    Ideas? Solutions?
    Thanks so much
    Robert

    thanks for the replies.
I recently switched from a G5 to th newest macbook pro (circa last fall). I decided that the only option that would keep me running was storage and lots of it, since I dabble somewhat seriously in photos and videos over the last few years.
I originally started with iPhoto, small digital camera on a simple G4 circa 2003 ish. Then I went to a used dual G5 around 2008 ish when I realized I was maxing out the old machine. But there was no going back. I like the interface, products, etc. I purchased Final Cut Express somewhere along the way, eventually got Aperture 2, and that really rocked my world. Put out some amaturish videos, but the family and I had so much fun. Relatives lined up for me to make videos...you probably know how that goes. Had to eventually put a stop to that, way too time intensive.
Cancer hit in 2008, spent 8 months in the hospital and am a different man now. I am alive, grateful to be, but deal with a body that is physically tired and has some ongoing medical challenges.
That leads me to the current.
My oldest daughter graduated from high school in 2011. I purchased her a 15" macbook pro. I did that thinking that I knew a new system was in the near future for me as the IBM chipset was being phased out. I saw the future. Also, the G5 dual was slowing down and it had some odd things about eSata and FW800 that just didn't make for smooth sailing with external hard drives.
I found out at first. I loved having a laptop. But I could not go without massive amounts of expandable storage. Just not an option. But I did discover that FW800 was reliable on her little laptop and that sort of opened doors for me to deal with storage issues.
By now, photos spread between iPhoto, Aperture 2, FCX Videos, and her laptop.
Well, graduation came and went and I had to relent on her laptop. I had just purchased Aperture 3 and was stunned at the amount of upgrades.
That left me with an Ap3 library on her computer, too.
Can y'all sort of get the drift where I'm going?
I now have a G4 (still runs like a charm), a G5, I pulled all her stuff off her MBP and stored it on a new hard drive FW800.
So what does a man who is insane do?
I purchased the latest everything, spared no expense. Ugh, the pocket book hurts. Bad.
But I have to say, Thunderbolt is everything it is cracked up to be. I have been stunned at the speed. I got the 12 TB station primarily as I don't want to keep purchasing this, that, and the other. I want to basically start taking the last 9-10 years of pictures, videos, files, and find a way to organize, clean up, consolidate, and so forth.
Oh, being a redundancy FREAK, I did purchase a drobo and buffalo as random duplicate TM backups and other file backups, nothing more. The Drobo does do hot swapping and such well, but it is S-L-O-W.  Painfully so.
The buffalo I had some problems with. Technical support was super and replaced the unit that didn't function. The newer model was rather speedy through ethernet. Not bad, so I put that thing to regular use for redundancy.
I now have files spread out among various computers, large NAS externals, and multiple individual drives (FW800, USB, etc).
Oh, I purchased the thunderbolt display too. That surprised me. Cut down on the number of wires and helped organize the physical lay out.
As photography and such went from physical to digital, so did my camera and video. I went through a few video cameras, , digital cameras, and so forth as things evolved and I tried various formats. That leaves me with various digital formats, including 3G pics, newer iphone 4 and 4s pics/videos.
As all this upgraded, so did iLife and ways to manage data.
Not being a pro, I don't really know about "workflow". It is all fun for me. I did try me hand for a short while last year at a formal photography business, but found out being good at photoshopping pics and fairly decent at taking pics does not mean I would enjoy the "business" of photography. But what does one do at that point? Upgrade to a canon 7d and get a few nice lenses.
My logic was hey, I need this infusion of IViG every 28 days to sustain my life/immune system (chemo destroyed my bone marrow) and this costs about $13,000 every 28 days. Insurance covers most, but bottom line, we were sudden spending about $10,000 a year cash out of pocket. I shut the business down a few weeks ago as I physically am too tired and can't stay focused. Chemo brain is a true phenomenon I have come to find out.
So, after writing this small book to say that I am somehow trying to take the new way of doing things, fast external drive(s) with a laptop and TB display, and now try to clean up and consolidate this mess.
There is redundandcy, a lot of lack of knowledge on my part, and the recent purchases have now allowed me to start trying to get this entire pile of digital spread out jewels of memories into a more cohesive, organized, consolidated system.
Since I had to start referencing Ap3 files, that helped with the storage on the laptop drive. But it caused another problem: I can't see the referenced movie files on iMovie. If I can, I don't know how.
So I am now beginning the cumbersome slow project of pulling everything under the umbrella of iMovie that is movie related, then pulling everything that is a photographic image under the umbrella of Ap3. I had to consolidate various iphoto libraries (found a decent app for that), and so forth.
Yet, as I'm doing all this, I get this feeling that I may not need another set up for a good while. Point being, why not slow down this spurt of energy to organize and consolidate and THINK about it a bit. Ha. right?   I mean, I'm doing what I have always done, which is evolve over time and just sort of grow larger and more cumbersome.
When this terribly original idea hit me a few weeks ago, I didn't initially think much about it except "get on it."
Now I'm starting to back up and say to myself, "what if I'm just taking a big conglomeration of so many spread out files, duplicating as I copy, and am not really making for an efficient workflow?"
Workflow is my new buzzword, my new thought. New to me. Quit laughing all you peeps who have it down. Some of us aren't that organized from the front side and look back 20/20 and say how in the world did I get here?
So now I'm reaching out, probably doing the smartest thing I've ever done, and trying to reach out to you all. When someone asked about about workflow, I thought "what does that mean?"
I think I am starting to get what it means, but could use some sharing of ideas/mentoring here. I'm guessing workflow means exactly what I am living: how to organize, move around, handle, and deal with all this data. Am I right on this?
I used to take it to mean, how did I have projects in Ap3 set up. Maybe that is a part of it, but I think (emphasis on think) that I am starting to realize workflow might just have a bigger meaning and application. In other words, how do I plan on organizing and dealing with ALL this digital data.
One example from this morning and I'll stop for the moment to allow for some great feedback. Since I couldn't get iMovie to see the referenced movie files in Ap3 (have preview sharing turned on), I decided that I wouldn't use Ap3 as my movie manager. So I take 420 varying kinds of files from iphones to the canon 7d and export them to my desktop.
Then I started thinking, I had better write all this out and reach out for some help before I just duplicate files and create another digital mess.
I was going to import them into iMovie. Seemed simple. It is, but many are duplicates. Then I thought I would go through and start naming, finding duplicates, blah blah. Talk about time consuming.
I'm willing to do all that if the concensus is that this is the best overall approach.
Someone mentioned the new Final Cut. I've held out, but might consider going that route for managing all movie files.
So here I am with tons of digital everything and I sure could use some wisdom on "workflow", "management," and basically setting myself up for the best pragmatic leveraging of the Apple set up for my intermediate future.
If you've read all this and have remained interested, you are an amazing person. If you have ideas and feedback, I will listen carefully. I think it is relatively clear that I am willing to purchase or do just about whatever needs to be done, I've just sort of fumbled my way to this point. Basically, I feel like a privileged kid dealing with pro equipment and not really utilizing it to its capacity, not even close.
I'll stop for now and will be back on in a few days to read the feedback and respond. I do appreciate your time and energy and feedback.
    Thanks,
    Robert

  • How do I find duplicates in Adobe Elements 8?

Like many others, I have tons of photos on my computer - many duplicates.  My primary concern at this point, however, results from the fact that  a cousin and I have just scanned over 1500 ancestral photos and documents, newspaper clippings, etc. from many albums we've just inherited.  She numbered the photos she scanned, I named the ones I scanned.   Now we find that there were many duplicates of photos between the two of us, and we would like to find those to reduce the huge  number of files.
Does Adobe Elements easily locate duplicate images so those can be deleted?  How about if they have different file names?     Pleeeeeze tell me we can do this.
Also,  does Adobe Element 8 batch re-name files, in case we want to do that in the future with these?
I'm looking at finding an easy and inexpensive (free?    ) course for Adobe 8 as I haven't really used it that much yet.  Some of the photos are 100+ years-old and will  need some editing.
    Thanks so much.

Hi, Granny (I thought you were great in The Beverly Hillbillies)
Don't try File>>Process Multiple Files to rename if you have already imported the photos into the PSE Organizer.
There is a FAQ on how to find suspected duplicates in PSE8 Organizer. http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Find_and_delete I haven't tried this so I can't say how well it works.

  • How do I find duplicates in photos

How do I find and delete duplicate pictures in the new Apple Photos?
I have just realised what a scam Apple are. They keep telling me my iCloud is full and want to sell me space but they also managed to turn my 5000 pictures into more than 57,000 when they were uploaded from iPhoto to Photos.
Was this product designed by 3year olds? In an age of digital cameras, previous backups and a world that existed before Apple decided was the birth of the internet age, and they design a new product that duplicates everything, has no way of recognizing or eliminating these duplicates and then they want to charge me for the privilege of storing the 50,000 plus photos they created like I want a backup of it all.
We left Microsoft to get away from their rubbish, only to now find Apple are serving up the same rubbish and want to charge us a monthly storage fee.
Frustrated and waiting for Apple's successor.

  • Finding duplicate entries in address book

I am using Address Book 5.0.3, where I have been using LinkedIn's CardMunch to import contact details via my iPhone. However, I now end up with three distinct issues regarding duplicate entries:
1/ two people with the same name, e.g. John Smith, but I know they are two separate people and they work for different companies.
2/ After an import, I may have some duplicate entries, say Alan Walker, who has moved from company A to company B and I want to replace his old contact details with the new information.
3/ two duplicate entries the same name, say Brian Vickers, both of which refer to the same person who still works for the same company, but has new contact details or additional data, such as a mobile number that I did not have before.
4/ two duplicate entries that are identical. E.g. I imported the same card twice for some reason.
5/ multiple entries marked 'Cannot Read Name', where CardMunch had a problem, but I know they are different people and I have to edit these to manually enter the correct information.
Unfortunately the Address Book find duplicates function, whilst it works, does nothing useful. The only option I am presented with is 'Merge', which in all of the scenarios above apart from item 4 I do not want to do a merge function - I want to either 'Mark as NOT Duplicates' (item 1/), 'Replace Selected Fields' e.g. show me the two cards side by side and allow me to select which fields from which card are to be kept, replaced or removed and then implement the merge (item 2), "Add New Information' but allow me to select the label for that information before merging so that if someone has a new iPhone, but is still keeping their old mobile, I can select the field label correctly and then merge (item 3) or 'Edit Card' which allows me to open any identified duplicate and add in missing information that would mean that it is no longer a duplicate item.
Can anyone suggest a way of doing this, or can Apple's developers please add these features to the Address Book App as soon as possible?
    Thanks, Russ Taylor

    books06,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It depends upon which version of Address Book you are using, and your definition of "view."
    1. Address Book 3.1.1 Help
    2. Address Book 4.0.3 Help: Combining duplicate cards and information
To find and merge duplicate cards:
    1. Choose Card > "Look for Duplicate Entries."
    2. Address Book tells you if it finds duplicate cards, cards containing duplicated information, or both.
    3. Click Merge to merge duplicate cards and remove redundant information on cards.
When Address Book merges duplicate cards, it creates a single card for the contact containing all of the unique information from each merged card. Address Book uses the picture from the merged card appearing first in the list.
To merge selected cards only, Command-click to select the cards you want to combine and choose Card > Merge Selected Cards. Address Book creates a single card using the name and picture of the selected card appearing first in the list.;~)

  • How do I find my pictures on Photoshop Elements 3.0?

I have been using Photoshop Elements 3.0 for many years. Today I attempted to
restore pictures from several discs. When finished I tried to view my photos and
got this message:    The calalog named "My Catalog" could not be found. Please open
    or create a different catalog.
When I click on "OK" I get this message:  No catalog found in current directory. Click New
to create a new catalog. Open to open a catalog from a different folder or Exit to close
    the application.
How do I find my pictures?

Message is about your catalog and not about photographs.
Photographs should be in their respective folders unless, you have moved them in the past....
Now how to locate your Catalog?
Search for "My Catalog" folder and when you find it, check its new location.
Launch Organizer, it will show a dialog to selet the catalog. Go to the location where "My Catalog" is and open it... Now if all the photographs are not-moved, you would be able to access. Otherwise start Reconnect missing files which hels us locating files which are moved to other locations and Organizer catalog is not aware...
Please get back in case you have some specific questions about the same...

  • How to delete unwanted or duplicate pictures from photos

Trying to organize photos into albums. In doing so want to delete duplicate photos or unwanted photos. Also since I've re-organized pictures into different albums I would like to eliminate older albums.  Is this possible and if so how. I've purchased several softwares but they don't help with old pictures downloaded over a yr ago. I think this can be done through ITunes but don't know how to access for this purpose. Can you recommend best way to edit pictures and albums?

If you are reorganizing pictures that have been synced from the computer to the phone, any adjustments to those pictures has to be done on the computer and then synced back to the phone. The only photos that you can delete on the phone itself are ones that are in the Camera Roll.
Unless you have synced duplicate pictures, I think you may be referring to the fact there are pictures in an album and also in a folder that was called Pictures Library. The library folder no longer exists under iOS 7. All photo management for photos that have been synced should be handled on the computer, and then changes synced to the phone. This syncing is done in the Photos tab of iTunes.

  • How to find duplicate files in Finder with Automator or Apple ScriptEditor

Can anyone tell me how to find duplicate files in Finder with Automator or Apple ScriptEditor.

D'oh!  It's actually fairly easy - I just right clicked on the file, Get Info, Artwork tab, then dragged the picture to the desktop, from where I can do what I like with it.  Never mind, nothing to see here, carry on.

  • I imported A LOT of duplicate pictures.  Any way to clean them out easily?

    see subject.
300, possibly more of the pictures are duplicates. I could select each one, hit cmd-delete, press OK for the warning, repeat ad insanium....but hopefully there is an easy way for Aperture to find duplicates! iTunes can!

I think it's actually "iPhoto-edited" with a hyphen in there. I tried this on my system, and simply typing "iPhoto-edited" into the filter field showed the ones that had the tag... actually, I think iPhoto adds it as a keyword, not a tag... try it.

  • Backup duplicate pictures

I'm having an issue backing up my wife's MacBook Air because of all of the duplicate pictures created by iPhoto.  I understand Duplicate Annihilator is the way to go, but the first thing everyone says is to "backup your files".  Well, that's the issue.  iPhoto says she has 2876 pictures (which I have room to backup) while Finder says she has 9570 pictures (which I don't have room for).  Any suggestions in this area?
Thanks for your time. If this has already been answered, please direct me.  I couldn't find it in my searches though.

  • Finding duplicate pics??

    hello there clever ones,
does anyone know if i can, like in itunes, find any duplicate pictures in my folder/library?
i have a funny feeling there is no option for this, could be time to visually find the doubles...
    thanks for your time,
    Anthony

    hi anthony,
What do you mean by duplicate pictures? Do you mean you imported the same photo more than once? Do you know how you got the duplicates?
iPhoto does not have the same "finding duplicates" command like iTunes does.
Depending on the way you got the duplicates, iPhoto Diet might be able to help. Please fully read the documentation on what it actually can do for you.
To get back some of the space your iPhoto Library is taking up on your hard drive you can use http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~fuhrer/personal/freestuff/iphotodiet/iPhoto Diet
    Quoted from the web site:
iPhoto Diet is a utility that helps to slim down your iPhoto library by manipulating your photos in the following ways:
*eliminate duplicate photos created internally by iPhoto or imported by yourself
*remove iPhoto's backups of rotated or modified photos
*strip the thumbnail icons of your photos
*remove thumbnail photos that have become mixed up with your high resolution photos
*identify photos which have not been added to albums
weed out unnecessary folders and files from the library
    and more!
I suggest you read through the entire page because it expalins what iPhoto does and how it does it.
If you say to yourself "I can go through the originals folders right in the Finder and get rid of the images I no longer want" then you need to read On iPhoto 5, Originals, and GUI Scripting which will explain what happens if you do it yourself.

iPhone 5s photos/video,deleting duplicate photos and video transferred from other iPhone 5s & iPhone 4S
I have tried selecting photos and videos to throw them in trash bin, but the trash bin doesn't work when pressing and or clicking on it
I would like to know how to get rid of the unwanted and duplicate pictures that I've transferred from my other iPhones.
If someone could please help me, I would greatly appreciate it !!
    Thank you so much,

How did you transfer the photos from your other iPhone? If you did it by importing them from the old phone to a computer and then used iTunes to sync them back to the new phone, then you would delete them by syncing again using iTunes but this time change the selection of which photos are to be synced. Each time you sync using iTunes, it sets the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current settings/selection in iTunes.

  • How can I find duplicate photos without going through all 5000  one at a time?

How can I find duplicate photos withough going through all 5000 one by one?  I have numerous duplications and used to be able to click on Edit and Find Duplicates and could clean up all the duplicates easily.  Now that option is gone.  I still have lots to delete.

I do backup everything using Carbonite. Please don't tell me it is bad, too :-)  Also, especially with photo files, I do have other backups of those I am concerned about. Probably not the best in the world, but a log better than many people who I know about.
Again, I really have not seen any problems with MacKeeper.  I imagine that if people do not read and follow instructions, they could have problems. For example, it is possible to scan all your files and see them in order of size. If you start deleting things, without knowing what you're deleting, you could cause trouble. Even when the computer scans for so-called junk files, you can look at them and decide for yourself if they are truly junk. I've never seen any that were not.
So, I will look at the complaints anyway to see them. I am open to change, although I hope I do not need to drop Mackeeper as it does things like keeping tracking of applications updates that I need. Please note that I definitely am not a MacKeeper employee or anything close. Just using it and happy with the the results.
I did download the recommend file for finding photo dupes and ran it.  There were very few duplicates, in any case, As I said before, the MacKeeper dupe finder was very slow when I ran it over ALL my files. That was a year ago and it did find many non-text dupes.
