Find exact duplicates and delete them?
I noticed in iTunes you have the option to find and diplay duplicates.. I have also read that if you hold the option key it shows TRUE duplicates. How do I do this? Do I hold the option key then go to file?

It seems find exact duplicates extends the comparison from just track name and artist to include album too. I still would not trust it 100%. For example, one of Niel Young's albums has two tracks with the identical title of two songs (plugged and unplugged).

I have an iMac on which I had installed Parallels and Windows 7 so I could some of the creativity software I was used to. I recently uninstalled both Parallels and Windows. How can I clean up my hard drive by making sure stray files from those programs have all been deleted?
If you followed these steps to uninstall Parallels (you simply drag Parallels to the Trash), that's all. Parallels is a quite clean application that does not create a lot of files in different folders.
However, you may still have the virtual machines you created in Documents folder. If you want to remove them, open a Finder window, select Documents in the sidebar and remove the Parallels folder -
A few days ago a pop up message came up on my screen saying that my hard drive was full, and that I could not install valuable updates because I did not have enough space on my computer. I checked my computer's storage space only to find that 18.22GB of my hard drive was filled with files/programs under the 'other' category. I have deleted all my downloads, most of my pictures and have done virus scans and I still don't have enough room. How do I find out what is in this 'other' category so that I can delete these files (which seem to be hidden) or whatever they may be?
1. Empty Trash.

2. Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.
Hold the option key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown.
Library > Mail > V2 > Mailboxes
Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.
Empty Trash. Restart.
3. Repair Disk

I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my old MBP hard drive and its settings to a new SSD. Everything went smoothly. When I opened the "About this Mac" section and looked under Storage it showed this:
Where are the "Backups" (purple) located? I want to delete these files to free up disk space on my new SSD. Thanks in advance for all of your guys help! These are the "Local Snapshots" Time Machine makes when the actual Time Machine harddisk is not connected/avaiable.

I want to delete my duplicate songs, but I have thousands of songs and cannot realistically go through and review and delete them one at a time. Can I do it all at once?
Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

Contact List Problem. I have duplicates on my iPhone. I turned off my Contact and selected "Delete Contacts" Most of the contacts were deleted but about 120 were left on my phone. I've tried selecting individual contacts and deleting them, No Go.
Can anyone help? How do I get rid of these contacts so I can re-synch my iPhone.I have exactly the same problem on my ipad. It is happening on only some contacts but, as with you, when I delete one of the contacts on the ipad, the second ipad contact and the contact on the imac are also deleted. This is even the case when I have differentiated the two contacts on the ipad and can see the one I have deleted on the ipad is not the same one as is then deleted on the imac.

My iPhone 5s (16GB) is stuck with 3948 photos (shown on the iTunes storage bar) on and I can not find a way to delete them all! It's very annoying as it takes up 6.54 GB of space and leaves me no room to add films, music...etc on to it. Please help me!!! I have already tried the numerous articles Apple have sent my way and I am still having no luck.I'd be eternally grateful if anyone could find a solution for me as this has been a problem for almost a year. Thank you.
If they were put there via iTunes sync process, then simply untick the Music box before syncing again.

I just downloaded 950 photos on iPhoto and deleted them off my camera and now under last import there is only 4 photos and i can't find the others?? There is a whole bunch of blank events in the library with no photos in them all with todays date? Help!!
Yes - you need a min of 10 GB just to operate - with just 1 you certainly can lose photos and other critical things - you need to make space immediately - probably by moving your iPhoto library to a volume formatted Mac OS extended -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

Auto find tracks not in playlists and delete them?
Is thre any way I can auto find all tracks that are not in any of my playlists and delete them all in one go?
If you have a look at Dougs AppleScripts there is one that will find tracks not in any playlist.
You can use that to create a playlist with them in and then do as you will with them.

Colin R.

James Ward4 Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried the video app and it appears to have some, but not all of the downloads which are viewable without wifi, so I will now review the download process and see if I can capture the missing episodes. Thanks again.

I duplicated all my pictures. Is there any way to delete the duplicates without deleting them one at a time. I now have 44,000 pictures and have 22,000 duplicates
Easiest solution: restore from your back up.
Other than that: For dealing with duplicates in iPhoto check out Duplicate Annihilator or Decloner -
I have an 8g Ipod Touch and I accidentally recorded some video on it. Now I don't know how to delete it. When I connect to Itunes, there is no 'Video' Folder, so I can't even see/find the videos to delete them! I am not very experienced with Itunes, please help me.
On the iPod go to the Photo app and then to the Camera Roll. Tap on the the video yu want to delete and then tap on the trash can icon in the lower right.

A lot of my pictures are in I Photo and also in Finder. Can I delete them from finder? They are taking up a lot of room.
Just make certain that the "Originals" or "Masters" are in your iPhoto Library before you trash the images.
You can find out by selecting the iPhoto Library file with the control key held down, then open the Library (which is, actually, a folder). You'll see a folder named "Originals" or "Masters" and you can check there to make certain that you have all of the high-res images in your iPhoto Library. If you do, you can safely trash the original files, although I would, if it were me, make an archive of the images before trashing (either on an external HD or on archival DVDs).
Make sense?

Can you add a group in LDAP as owners for a calendar?
The documentation indicates that you can create a group calendar by adding owners to a calendar. The set_calprops WCAP command allows you to specify a list of owners for the calendar. However, I would like to know if there is a way to add a group in
