"FIND" Feature Grayed Out

The "Find" feature under EDIT is grayed out. It was fine last night, but I cannot use it today. How do I fix this?

My "FIND' (search) Feature Grayed Out

Suddenly, the FIND feature (under EDIT) is grayed out and not working. It was fine last night; not operational this morning. How do I fix this?

The "Create New Film Roll" feature is no longer available. It is continuously grayed out. Has anyone experienced this before? And if so, how did you correct the problem?

Are they greyed out in the toolbar or in the preferences? If the former, then enable them in preferences ;-)

Layers features grayed out

I am using Photoshop CS3 and trying to apply a filter from the Filter Gallery which is grayed out on a psd file.
I have unlocked the backgound layer and still grayed out. I can duplicate the layer and still the Filter Gallery is grayed out.
The file was created by merging 6 RAW files and creating 1 psd file. I flattened the layers prior to saving, but can't seem get around the grayed out Filter Gallery.
I did create a jpeg of the file and that worked.
Any suggestions?

Filter Gallery only works in 8 bit/channel RGB.
Check your document mode and bit depth.

'Show in Finder' grayed out.

Aperture 3.5.1 is running in Mavericks and using managed libraries. I notice that the option to Show in Finder is grayed out as well as Show in Project
I've rebuilt the library database but that has not solved the problem.

"Locate referenced files " will also only work for referenced files. You are right, it should be graded out for a managed Aperture library.
Iirc, "Locate Referenced Files" is ignorant. It only knows that none of the selected Images has a referenced Original after you run the command. That's why, afaict, the command is available even when the selection contains no Images that have referenced Originals.

Mail merge sources grayed out

I'm doing a mail merge for the first time on Pages. trying to link a Numbers spreadsheet to the Pages letter.
I tried with iCloud documents, but after inserting mail merge fields into the Pages doc I tried to link to Numbers doc, but the Numbers doc was grayed out (as were all documents).
i assumed it was iCloud being flaky, so i changed the documents to local. Stil no luck.
The fields have the same names as the spreadsheet headers.
Everything appears to be fine until I try to select a mail merge source. I select "Numbers document" and every file that I can find is grayed out.
What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be gratefully accepted - I'm running against a deadline
And by the way, does iCloud mail merge work?

It probalby wouldn't hurt to delete the plist files for Pages and Numbers in your old user account. In your old account, Close the apps and switch to Finder. Hold down the Option key while you click the Go menu item and (sitll holding the Option key) select Library. Then navigate to Preferences and delete:
com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
com.apple.iWork09.plist
When you restart the apps, new plist files will be created. Any preference you altered will now be reset to their defaults.

HT6437 My itunes cannot locate my ipod. All the sync option are grayed out and diagnostics says that itunes cannot find usb ports and that no device is connected when it is. What should I do to solve this issue?

So itunes is giving me problems. Since around Christmas time, itunes decided to stop reading my ipod. I connect it to my computer with the usb cable and my computer will recognize that a device is connected but itunes will not. If I go to file->devices and try to sync, all of my sync options are grayed out, while before it would just automatically sync.
When I run diagnostics it tells me that under ports that it cannot find usb ports (it has a green circle?), a type of cable isn't found, and that no device is connected with the usb cable (which my ipod is). I have been trying to fix this issue but nothing is working. I've tried restarting my ipod, itunes, and my computer, i've also tried resetting my ipod and uninstalling itunes then reinstalling itunes but nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

Updated Find Friends. Now two copies on iPhone, both grayed out.

I just got a new 5s. I launched Find Friends, but was told I had to update it. So I went to the app store and did so. Now there are two FF icons on two separate iPhone pages, both grayed or dimmed out so I can't launch the app from there. But if I go to the App Store, there is an Open button now instead of an Update button. I can click this and the app open and works fine. It looks like the old version to me, but perhaps there's not much difference? Also, I can use the switcher (double click home button) to get the running app.
When I plug into iTunes, one icon on iTunes's Apps page for FF looks normal (and like the old one), but the other one is gray and has a generic icon. Perhaps I should delete both from iTunes and re-update?

Just an update: Turned on my iPhone 5 this morning and PRESTO! The feature is back. I'm not aware of any settings that changed. Maybe the feature just disappears sometimes due to changes on Apple's end? (I've noticed Siri will sometimes be grayed out as well).

The 'Get Information' button in my printer driver dialog is grayed out. This happened when I upgraded my mac (and macbook). Can't find any help anywhere.

I recently upgraded both my imac and macbook pro to a new mac mini and macbook air. I have a networked (via airport extreme) canon ipf6100 printer that had been working great from my older computers (all running current mountain lion). The new computer's printer driver setups went well and the dialog says its online and ready. The problem is the 'Get Information' button in the 'Main' driver panel is grayed out. The driver cannot read the printer's configuration (i.e. roll or sheet paper) and therefore cannot print correctly. I have tried re-installing the driver (current one from Canon's website) and have tried connecting the printer to USB directly with the same result. I have not been able to find any help on this anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

Task categories are defined by the event source -- there are no default categories. So, the Task category drop-down will only be populated if the selected event source contains task categories.
From you description, the task categories was also grayed out, although you selected the source event: "Microsoft Windows security auditing". In this case, please filter the event logs without task categories, then check if there is any event
log available in the result.

If you are having issues turning on Always Allow for cookies in Safari on your iPad, you may want to check to make sure that you don't have Private Browsing enabled, as noted in the following article:

Application not working..grays out;finder wont launch 1712 error;

I was trying to transfer photos from my dell to my mac. i successfully transferred one file. when I copied another photo file into the same cruzer..the mac did not "see" that file (although it showed up on the dell). when i removed the cruzer from the mac..the application logo at bottom was grayed out and would not respond. Then the finder says..will not launch ..error 1712 ..THen the macbook will not shut down..only if if remove the battery. When i reinstall the battery..the startup desktop is grayed out and then looks like it is installing something at the bottom...screen is bright again, but same problem.
how do I fix this??

i have not received a reply to this question. However , I went to the Genius bar today and this is how everything was fixed:
Go to "spotlight" and type in the word activity.
A list will show up and click on each to quit each one.
After this was done..all worked just fine.
Also...rather than removing the battery if the mac will not shut down..just hold down the power on button and it should power off . When the battery is removed that computer thinks it hads "died" and it will put the computer into a gray save type mode. So avoid this by holding the power button down,

I am trying to set up e-mail on a second user account but mail preferences is grayed out. I have looked at some posts which indicate it could be corrupt file and say to deletee .plist but I cannot find that at all. Any suggestions?

I am trying to set up a Mail account for a second user. I have made the user account but when I try to set up Mail, it fails as if the password or e-mail is incorrect but I know it is correct. When I try to go to Mail preferences, it is grayed out. Any suggestions?

1. If you haven't tried this already, just delete the user account entirely, and then try setting it up again.
2. To find the permissions file:
     a. hold down the option key
     b. go to the Go menu in the finder
     c. scroll down to Library and open it
     d. in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
     e. drag it to the trash and restart.
3. if that doesn't work, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. In the Keychain Access menu, do Keychain First Aid, and repair.
This should keep you busy for a while.
