"Find Finder Items" Broken? Help!

I'm having a problem with Find Finder Items. I set it as follows:
Find Finder Items
Where: 100EOS7D (this is a folder on my drive)
Whose: Extension is equal to CR2
When I run this I see in the window below all my CR2 files listed. However, I also see my path and directory listed twice at the top. Why? My next step is to move the results of this search to the trash, but along with the files, my folder is moved to the trash as well!
Am I doing something incorrectly?

Let me begin by saying that I've done the SAME THING for a long time with this Automator script, and it's worked flawlessly. I recently added some now automator actions (and later deleted them) thinking they were the culprit of why my "filter finder items" was showing no results, but I'm not sure at all at this point.
Here's the script (that has been working fine until at least the 7th):
It's long, so bear with me (I use this script to install custom Sims2 content when I download it:
("Get Specified Folder" uses the "Get specified finder items" action, I just didn't want to type that every time).
New Folder: Recent (in my downloads folder)
Get Specified Folder: my downloads folder
Get folder contents (repeat for each subfolder found)
Filter finder items (name contains .package)
Copy Finder items (to Recent)
Get Specified Folder: my downloads folder
Get folder contents (repeat for each subfolder found)
Filter finder items (name contains Sims2Pack)
Move finder itmes (to my core download folder (they're generally in subfolders after downloading, as are the .package files)
Get Specified Folder: my downloads folder
Get folder contents (repeat for each subfolder found)
Filter finder items (name contains Sims2Pack)
Copy finder items (to Recent)
Get Specified Folder: Recent
Create Archive (on desktop named Sims2)

And that concludes the script. I know it could probably be streamlined (another reason I'm posting the whole thing) but it worked until very recently, and I don't know what could cause it to no longer report results after filtering within the subfolders while within the main folder works fine.
To clarify, it's recently been simply deleting the MTS folders and creating a "Recent" folder and archiving it but it's empty. So the script is not filtering for the Sims2Pack data nor the .package data as it used to.
I haven't modified the script, and I've deleted all actions that I downloaded recently (backed them up in case they're not the culprit). Also ran disk permission repair but nothing was repaired in regards to Automator.

I removed the step where it was saving it to the desktop. If the filters ever work again, this should therefore go faster than before.

Error ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "P12_PROUDCT_ID" in application "61553".Is the item name P12_PROUDCT_ID or P12_PRODUCT_ID? Perhaps you misspelled the item name in the item itself?

"Ask for Finder Items" Automator action broken?

OK, I'm pulling my hair out on Automator (again). I'm on OS X Lion 10.7.1.
Here's what I want to do: I have image files named "something-something (S1).png" and I want to create a copy of each file named "something-something (S2).png" then resize that copy to 50% the size of the original. A perfect choice for Automator, I would have thought.
So here's the workflow I came up with:
1. Ask for Finder Items: Type set to Files and Allow Multiple Selection checked.
2. Duplicate Finder Items: To create a copy, hopefully named "something-something (S1) copy.png".
3. Rename Finder Items: Set to Replace Text, with Find set to "(S1) copy" and Replace set to "(S2)" (in basename only).
4. Scale Images: Set to By Percentage 50.
I would have thought that would have worked. Trouble is, it doesnt even get to first base. When I run the workflow I see the expected choose file dialog, and I choose a test PNG file. Then Automator happily announces that "Ask for Finder Items completed" in the log, and proceeds to sit .. and sit ... and sit. It says it's running, but nothing is happening. No duplicate file action happens, no rename .. nothing. Oh, and yes, I do see the selected filename in the "Results" area for the Ask for Finder Items action.
What's going on? Any ideas? For a supposedly intuitive tool I find automator inscrutable (and I'm a 30 year seasoned operating system oftware developer).

Help on Copy Finder Items

This is the problem:
I have a Toshiba USB Flashdisk formatted with a Windows format (so that both Mac and PC can read/write it).
I have a folder inside Documents where I want to backup to my flashdisk regularily (i'll plug in the drive, and then run the automator workflow).
It worked well when I first made this, but some time ago, it won't copy ALL the files. It'll only copy some of the files/folders which makes it fustrating.

I've also found that after an upgrade to Lion an Automator script I've been using to back up my Entourage 2008 identity to a USB drive no longer works, failing with a report that Copy Finder Items couldn't copy to the destination (which it had been happy doing under Snow Leopard).
I had saved the workflow as an application in the Utilities folder. First of all I also discovered that the Utilities folder permissions had been set differently, with "system" as the owner and as the only account with Read & Write permissions. I had to change the folder permissions and then having opened the "application" in Automator had to unlock it there too.
I've tried changing the destination of the copy to local locations like my account's Desktop or Downloads folders but still the script fails with a "Copy Finder Items can't copy ... to this destination" message.
The script is essentially the one described here:

but set up as an application rather than an iCal repeating event. Once I've quit all the Microsoft applications (by running the first part of the script), Finder allows me to drag the Entourage "Main Identity" folder to the folder on the USB drive to make a copy so at that level the permissions (and disk space) are ok.

Help with what should be an easy workflow.. copy finder item

I am writing a workflow to backup a folder to an external hard drive. The flow first copies the folder to the desktop, then re-names it with the date and then should be copying it to an external fire-wire hard drive.
The problem is that the "copy finder item" does not work - only the last sub-folder in the folder actually gets copied. I can't figure out what the problem is. This seems to affect both the copy to the desktop and then the subsequent copy to the firewire drive. Puzzlingly, it sometimes seems to work and copy the whole folder!
Any advice?

Well, I don't know what's causing your problem, but let me suggest an optimization. Unless you have a specific reason to want this, there's absolutely no reason to copy the folder twice. Right now, you're copying to the desktop, renaming the folder, then copying to the external drive. Presumably, you must at some point delete the copy on the desktop. Copying twice means the backup will be half as fast as it could be. It also introduces extra room for errors by increasing the complexity of the task.
Instead, copy the folder to the destination on the external drive, then rename it once it's there. Perhaps, if you're lucky, in making this change, your problem will solve itself.

Copy Finder Items - how to generic for multiple user home directories?

I am creating an Automator workflow to allow my networked users to be able to copy certain files from a central location to their local home directory and overwriting their local copy. How to I make the destination of the Copy Finder Item to be generic home directory (something in the like of "~/Document/MegaSeg User Data/MegaSeg Database" instead of a fixed user home directory)?

It may be easier with an appleScript (which you could incorporate into an Automator action if you wanted).

set docs_folder to path to documents folder from user domain

set target_folder to folder "MegaSeg Database" of folder "MegaSeg User Data" of docs_folder
duplicate the_file to target_folder with replacing

This will replace existing files of the same name in the target folder. Hope it helps.

Since updating to 3.6.1 I don't get an empty browser window in my tool bar whe. it opens --- just a list of search engines. I can't find anything in "Help" or the FAQ's that seem to address this. My only choice seems to go back to Safari.

I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.
One possibility is you may be in full screen mode, for details on fixing that see the [[menu bar is missing]] article.
If you are missing various toolbar items, see the [[back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]] article.
If your problem is something else please give more details.

"Find Finder Items" returns same file twice

Hey y'all,
I'm trying to jerry-rig a photobooth for my wedding. I'm using automator to grab 3 stills from a webcam, and place them all in a folder. When I use "Find Finder Items" to send these images to an action that will rotate them, it finds one of the images twice. That is, the results for "Find Finder Items - where: path whose: name contains 'snap' " will return pictures/path/snap3.tiff, pictures/path/snap1.tiff, pictures/path/snap2.tiff, pictures/path/snap3.tiff. This means that when I send these results to my Rotate 90 Degrees action, Snap3 is rotated 180, and when I send them all into a PDF, I get snap3 twice.
This also happens when I "Find Finder Items" and just look for all the .tiff files in /path, and when use "Get Folder Contents" on /path.
Background: Running 10.5.8 Leopard on a PPC Mac mini. Fairly new to the world of Mac, so I may be missing something obvious.
I've been searching for answers for a day or two now, and haven't come across this sort of issue; I apologize if this is old hat, but I really have made a goodfaith attempt to search these and other forums.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edited to add: The folder only contains the 3 .tiff files, and the PDF I'm trying to dump them into. I thought maybe I was somehow creating a 4th identical file, but it's not the case.

Automator 2.2 "Copy Finder Items" Action Error

Hello all,
When I try to create an Automator workflow that finds a type of file (pdf) in a nested folder structure and copies those files to another folder - essentially extracting the pdfs from their nested folders - I get an error message.
1) I use the "find Finder items" action. I specify the top-level folder and set the kind to "document"
2) It returns 56 items
3) I use "copy Finder items" action and specify a new folder
4) The copy action fails stating that a given file "couldn't be saved in the folder". It does not always error-out on the same file. Changing or creating a new folder doesn't help.
I have tried this under two user accounts with the same result. I have tried deleting preferences. The same error results.
Any ideas?

I was having the same issue.
I found another solution: instead of copying files, you could move files.
1) Duplicate your original folder (unless you want to move/extract your files entirely to the new folder) (right click the folder and select duplicate)
2) Create a new folder as the destiny folder
3) Open automator and use the following actions (in order) on the workflow
- Find Finder Itens (browse to your source folder; select "any"; select "extension"; select "end with"; type "pdf") (you can do the same thing with the actions "get specified finder items" combined with "filter finder items")
- Get Folder Contents (and mark repeat for each subfolder found) (use this action if you have subfolders)
- Move Finder Itens (browse to your destination folder, that you created previously)
Now you can delete the duplicated folder.

Automator Copy Finder Items - file couldn't be saved error

I have a simple automator sequence that suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. Copy Finder Items has started returning an error "the file xxx couldn't be saved to the folder yyy" Happens for different files and folders. Can't see anythng that's changed. Any ideas?

I'm currently having the same issue, and have had it with mulitple automator scripts on multiple computers, but it's not fixing itseltf. Anyone know what this error could be?
I've noticed that I get the above error most often after getting and then correcting permissions errors in the same workflow. Any help would be most appreciated.

Pass input to Automator's "Ask for Finder Items"

Hi,
I have created an Applescript in Automator, which is set up to determine a folder location where config files reside.
I would like to pass this location to "Ask for Finder Items", so that the default config file is selected, but the user can select their own config file if they prefer.
I can't see any way to reference my location variable in the "Ask for Finder Items" action.
I've also tried to view the "Ask for Finder Items" sourcecode for a hint, but can't figure out how to do this either.
Any help greatly would be greatly appreciated!

Found this approach which is working for me:
set config_file to choose file with prompt "Locate the config file and click OK" default location MYLOCATIONVARIABLE
This opens the finder at the correct folder.

BUG? "ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID..." on branch on upgrading 3.0 to 4.0

I'm testing the waters prior to upgrading a customer application from APEX 3.0.0.00.20 to 4.0.2.00.07.
The application has been exported from the APEX 3.0 environment on a 4.0 instance on a different server. Both databases are 10.2.0.4.0 EE.
A on navigating—via a standard tab—to a page containing only conditional On Load: Before Header branches, the branches are failing with
Unexpected error, unable to find item name at application or page level.
Error: ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "p810_status" in application "121". This is caused by the branch action having Set these items item names specified in lower case:
p810_status,p810_read_onlyThe error is resolved by changing these item names to UPPER CASE.
This is not a disaster. Using APEX views I can see that there are only a handful of branches specifying item names in lower case so it won't require major effort to fix this app when it's upgraded for real.
However, (a) I am aware that there are other places in this app where item names are specified in lower case; and (b) I tend to type most of my development stuff in lower case, so I'd like clarification on this issue.

I noticed that APEX 4.0.2 has converted all branches to use the [now] late, lamented "Set value before branching" option. Is this significant? Obviously this won't occur if upgrading to 4.1.

Thank you for reporting this. You have hit upon an issue with this page, for which I have filed Oracle bug #11840642. To get around this in the meantime, you can see page specific changes by going to:
1) The 'Page Definition' page for the page you want to see recent edits.
2) Go to 'Utilities > History'. This will show you recent actions for components on the current page.

That does not look like an Oracle error message (They usually start with ORA-)

Anyway, if you believe it to be an Oracle exception should write just a little about the situation causing this, along with a stack trace.
