Find fotos from iPhoto 7.1.5 with keywords from Spotlight

Hello, I've attached keywords to all my fotos in iPhoto. Now I would like to find them when using Spotlight. Spotlight doesn't find a single photo on keywords - how do i fix this?

Don;t search with Spotlight.
As spotlight works with files and the Finder, and the iPhoto Library is not parseable via the Finder, Spotight does not read the keywords.
You can search iPhoto keywords through the search box in the iPhoto Window or through a Media Browser. You can create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser.

  • Photos missing from iPhoto/TM backup but with a twist.....

So, there is a challenging twist associated with this case of missing photos and I hope an expert can provide some advice. Note: This is not related to upgrading from iPhoto '09 to '11 thank goodness!
Here is the story in condensed form, with additional details below:
MBP stolen but backed up with TM
Used TM on the replacement MBP to browse backup of iPhoto backup of stolen MBP
Restored iPhoto library to new MBP
Open iPhoto on new MBP and browse library
Everything looks OK except *FIVE* Events which show in the Event viewer as blank grey squares. However, the Events have the correct titles and show the correct number of pictures in brackets in the title. In addition, using the trackpad to scroll over the Event there are no thumbnails visible. If I click on the Event all the photos are greyed out but they do have the correct titles and keywords below the grey boxes. If I click on an individual photo I get a black exclamation mark in a grey circle. Interestingly the LAST IMPORT folder in iPhoto DOES show the thumbnails for ALL the missing pictures, all arrange with the correct Event titles. Of course, clicking on any individual picture gives me the same exclamation mark detailed above.
After reading these support forums I have tried the following:
    1) Viewed package contents ---> the blank Events DO NOT show up as folders in the Finder window
    2) Used COMMAND & OPTION to launch iPhoto and checked the following boxes in the REBUILD DIALOG BOX: rebuild small thumbnails/rebuild all of the photos' thumbnails/recover orphaned photos/examine and repair permissions ---> Issue persists
    3) Download iPhoto Manager and tried EXTRACTING all the photos from the library --> Photos from missing events still not showing up. Not really surprising given that the VIEW PKG. CONTENTS in #1 above didn't show them either.
    4) Used iPhoto Manager to REBUILD LIBRARY --> still doesn't show them
    5) Used TM to browse the backup directly --> missing photos have blank placeholders only.
It appears for what ever reason the photos have been deleted from the backup. I say "deleted", as opposed to "not backup up", because iPhoto has the remnants of the photos (i.e, Events, thumbnails, titles, keyword, etc.). Any suggestions on how to possibly recover these missing pictures. How about the thumbnail versions at least, even in their their low resolution form. Although, I admit I don't know how/where thumbnails are dealt with in iPhoto as they don't seem to show up in the Library package contents.
    Additional info:
OSX 10.7.5, iPhoto '09 is version 8.1.2, and iPhoto library is 75GB, 139 Events, 28,000 pics
The day before the MBP was stolen I downloaded a number of photos and did some editing. That night plugged the MBP in and noticed that the Time Machine did a number of backups through the night, although the iPhoto library seems untouched but can't be sure. The following morning, the computer was used for a few hours and thus had plenty of time to complete any backups necessary.
The *FIVE* Events that are affected seem to be the most recent ones, worked on the night before the MBP was stolen.

I cannot say for certian but it is highly likley that YES, when the person finished editing they just closed the lid of the computer and didn't actually quit iPhoto. So would this explain why there are fragmenst of them in the backup (i.e. Events, keywords, thumbnails, etc.) but not the actual image files? Any way I can at least save the extremely low res thumbnail versions?
I'm also going to try Data Rescue on the camera memory card to try and recover them that way.
    Thanks.

  • Can't export from iphoto '11 to facebook with facebook exporter

    Help!
I've been trying to export photos from iPhoto '11 (Version 9.2.1) without success.  I am running OS X (10.6.8).  This is the error message I keep seeing, no matter which way I attempt to make a connection (through the 'Accounts' window in Preferences, or through the 'Share' tab when I select a photo to export).
Here are the following steps I have taken, without any success:
    Changed my Facebook password.
    Logged out of Facebook.
Downloaded and installed the 'Facebook Exporter for iPhoto' plugin from Facebook; alhtough this is suspect, since here's the most recent comment from Facebook on this plugin:
The home for the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto - athttp://developers.facebook.com /iphoto/ - is temporarily down, as we build out a new version of it. In the meantime, you can download the application from this profile page, using the button at the left. Happy photo sharing!

Re-booted my Mac after installing the plugin.
Verified that the plugin is actually on my hard drive.
Searched Google and Apple Support for help, but here I am...
I really don't like Facebook, so maybe this the final hint that I should just give it up...

Use Apple mail - set in the iPhoto preferences

  • IPhoto nightmare. Tried to import photos using Nikon software for the first time and all my photos disappeared from iPhoto 8.1.2 (and everything from itunes too). Newly reinstalled iPhoto crashes as soon as I import anything now.

Macbook OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2. I just tried to import some photos using Nikon software (View NX2) for the first time. When I next looked into iPhoto it was empty (so was iTunes but that's another story). I had backed up photos fairly recently but don't use time machine. Searched in vain everywhere and must have done something wrong because iPhoto wouldn't then open at all, saying it was unreadable. After a lot more attempts to recover I uninstalled iPhoto and the receipts and reinstalled from my original disc. It seemed to be ok and imported some photos from my iphone but as soon as the import is complete iPhoto crashes and when opened again it is empty. Have tried this several times and have shut down and have tried rebuilding with the alt and cmd buttons but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

not a reply but not sure how to add something to my own thread! It seems that Desktop was damaged too as when I try to open it a screen says there is no application selected to open Desktop with. No idea what I should choose! Any help appreciated, have really made a mess of my MacBook this time.

  • Can't Print Book from iPhoto or Preview, but Can Print from Adobe Accrobat

I have spent 2.5 hours on the phone with HP, an am now unsure if the problem is with HP or Apple.
When I try to print a single page from an iPhoto Book (or a group of pages), I receive an error message on the HP 4650 printer (49.4C02). I saved the book as a PDF and tried to print from Preview with the same results. I then opened the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and WAS able to print. I am able to print individual photos from iPhoto.
I searched this discussion board for problems printing to the HP 4650. One suggestion was to use the driver for the HP 4600. I tired that and it produced the same error on the printer.
Using Adobe Acrobat is a viable work-a-round, but I am curious why I cannot print a book from iPhoto. Any thoughts as to why Adobe Acrobat works and iPhoto and Preview do not?
    Thanks,
    -Dale

HP has _ a firmware release that addresses this error _ - have you installed it?

  • Importing RAW files with keywords from Bridge

    Hi everyone,
I downloaded the trial version of Aperture and have now imported RAW files (Canon 20D) with keywords and IPTC data applied via Bridge.
The import of the RAW files was no problem however the files lacked the keywords and IPTC data, which I applied in Bridge.
I also tried to import JEPG files and here Aperture could show me keywords and IPTC data.
Why does this not work for RAW files? What do I have to do in order to get it to work?
Thanks in advance for your advise
    /David

When you add metadata (keywords etc.) to most proprietary raw formats (including Canon .CR2 files), Bridge doesn’t know how to embed that data in to the file—Canon and other manufacturers haven’t told Adobe (or anyone else) what the structure of these raw files is and how metadata can be stored within the file itself. Therefore, Bridge creates a ‘sidecar’ file to go with the raw file: the sidecar file sits alongside the raw file, with the same filename and a .xmp extension. This sidecar file contains any metadata you may have applied, as well as adjustments you have made in Adobe Camera Raw.
Unfortunately, Aperture doesn’t read these sidecar files when importing raw files, so you lose any adjustments from ACR (not surprising, since Aperture is obviously a different raw converter to ACR so the adjustments would be different anwyay), but also you lose any metadata you may carefully have applied.
There may be an answer, however. But it’ll cost. That would be to use iView Media Pro (which has recently been bought by Microsoft, but a Mac version still exists). There is a 21-day free trial for iVMP—since my suggestion is to use it as a temporary conduit for importing all your existing raw files into Aperture, you won’t necessarily have to pay the £129 GBP asking price for iVMP (others can debate the morality of that statement, however; fortunately I already owned iVMP and so didn’t have to worry about such things). I believe iVMP can read the XMP sidecar files created by Bridge. Create a new iVMP catalogue with all your raw files which you want to move into Aperture. It should bring all your existing metadata into the iVMP catalogue as well.
Then, import all the raw files into Aperture. As you have found, they’ll be without any metadata. As long as the filenames are the same in both the iVMP catalogue and the Aperture library, you can use Adam Tow’s application Annoture to transfer metadata from the iVMP catalogue into the Aperture library.
Sort of circuitous, but possible. If only Aperture read the metadata from those sidecar files, eh? If I’m wrong in thinking that iVMP imports the XMP metadata, then what you can do is get Bridge to convert all your .CR2 raw files into .DNG files. If you don’t know about DNG, read about it at Adobe. But briefly, Bridge is able to embed its metadata into the DNG files and iVMP is able to read that embedded metadata when importing DNG files into the catalogue. I know that for certain: I used iVMP and DNG files (from my own 20D) before using Aperture; when I started using Aperture (which I love, now) I used Annoture to transfer all my metadata from iVMP into Aperture.
Perhaps someone else will explain this better than I.

  • When emailing photos from iPhoto the list of the recipients from my mail facility is not accessed so I have to enter the email address for the person again although I have the person in my email contacts

When trying to email a picture to someone who already exist in my email contacts from Iphoto i have to type the email address in full.  in email when I enter the first few characters the address is shown.  Can Iphoto access my contacts instead of me typing the whole address.  The old version did that.

my email links will not open firefox or if open will not go to the browser/site.
since changing to firefox, my email do not work. I have made firefox the default and deleted the prevoius browser and restarted my pc....

  • How do i get my pics back from iphoto.  Lost them with the update to MAC OS 10.9.4

How do I get photos back from I photo? IPhoto not compatible after MAC OS update to 10.9.4

What version of iPhoto are your running?  What do you see when you open your library? Any messages?
This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgradeto iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

  • IPhoto 7.1 Issues with colour from external editor

    Further to my previous post.
When i saved a document edited in Photoshop CS3 to iPhoto 6 the process would be:
File>Save As, which in turn required three dialogue boxes to be checked, the last one being "Replace existing document with the edited version". This option no longer exists.
Any suggestions please as am totally confused.

When I edit a photo with PS CS3 and it remains a jpg file, I only get the window with the option to pick the compression/quality level of iPhoto. But if the edit I make requires a format change to psd then I get window shown below and have to pic one of the two options presented depending on if I want to keep it as a psd file or not.
If it stays a jpg then you will just get the quality level selection window.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto 6 very sluggish with keywords

Just upgraded to iPhoto 6. The speed for importing images has improved greatly, unfortunately it seems the speed at which keywords are being assigned has degraded significantly.
Running iPhoto 6.0.2 under OSX 10.4.5 on 800MHz PowerMac G4 iMac w/512MB RAM and approx. 34GBs of free disc space.
12,000 photos spread over 192 smart albums with atleast 192 keywords.
Basically the best way to describe the change is, all that slowness usually associated with loading photos in iPhoto 5 has been passed on to the keyword assignment in iPhoto 6. Assigning keywords was a snap in iPhoto 5, but importing took a long time. Now that scenario has flipped.
Anyone know of something that might improve this? We've already rebuilt the cache, and done the usual system-type maintenance. Just don't know why keywording is killing iPhoto 6... it's just words being added to a database.

I, too, am having this problem. I installed iLife 06 three days ago specifically for the iPhoto speed improvements I read about. From the moment of installing it, the response time for doing ANYTHING with the assign keyword panel of the Photo Info box is horrendous. For example, what drove me to forums this morning are the following wait times:
    * 27 seconds to scroll keyword panel
    * 38 seconds to click one keyword box for one photo
    * 81 seconds to assign one keyword to 31 photos
While the keywords could be slow in iPhoto 5, it was nothing like this. Because I use the keywords quite a lot, I need a workaround. I've got all the software upgrades, rebuilt everything I can think of, quit iPhoto numerous times, and restarted at least twice since installing this.

  • My ipod touch will download songs from itunes, but has issues with songs from my CD's.The songs show up on my ipod

My ipod downloads songs from itunes and plays them just fine. However, when I added my songs from my CD's to it, they downloaded but don't play like they should. They either don't play at all or randomly play in the middle of the song. It has nothing to do with the start time either because they all say that they start at 0.00. I synced the CD's correctlly, so that is not the issue. The songs from the CD's never start playing when I choose them. What can I do to fix this issue?

Have you looked at the discussions on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This" with your same problem?

  • Can I delete pictures from iPhoto and not have them removed from the "Picutres" folder on my computer?

I am trying to save space on my computer if I can...

    Simple answer: yes.
But... you need to proceed very carefully or you might delete the wrong things.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
If you have a Managed library, and also have copies in the Pictures Folder outside the Library, then they're the waste of space...
