Find Friends kills my 3g

Has anyone else had this problem?
Whenever I try to use the new Find Friends app it works for about 30 seconds before I lose 3g cell service and I get bumped to the "You must have the internet connected to use this feature" screen.  All bars drop to zero, then it begins "searching" for service, and then service comes back but not until after I've restarted the app.
I can use wifi to keep the app open and working, but it kills my 3g.  If I keep it open using wifi, the 3g cycles from service to no service.
I've deleted and reinstalled the program, restarted, and restored by phone, but it keeps happening.
Anyone?

Is this an iPhone 3G?
iCloud does not support that iPhone.
iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion.

  • How do you use Find Friends from same account on multiple phones?

I have one itunes account with 3 iPhones.  When I send an invite from one phone to another persons email (in my family), it says I can't accept request from the same person.  Basically, it seems that all the phones are tied to one Find Friends itunes account.  Can you use this app in the same family with same accounts?

I have a similar problem. I hope that Apple will offer a solution. It would appear to be possible because you can choose to see one of your other devices by signing in at me.com using your Apple ID and will be able to choose any of your devices and track it on a map. I'm a little disappointed that this is an issue but will remain optimistic that someone at Apple will wee these posts and provide an update.

  • Notify no longer working with find friends app!

On find friends app the notify button no longer works and myself and everyone I'm trying to set the notify button has the latest update "6.1.2". Any one else having the same problem?

I didn't realize until I went to a class to lecture in front of a couple hundred students that what worked on Friday no longer worked on Monday.  (I upgraded to iOS 5 over the weekend.)  My iPad with lecture slides was plugged in 25 feet away.  I finally recruited a student to tap the iPad screen when I needed the next slide.  A nightmare.  What is usually slick and seamless was a wreck.
Here's my deal.  My remote app works fine at home where my iPod Touch and iPad are on the same wifi network.  At school they're on different networks for some reason.  Bluetooth doesn't work anywhere.  So Apple needs to find this bug and fix it.  I can't believe whoever is responsible for this didn't test this out before they released iOS 5.  Sheesh.

  • HT204407 Will Find Friends app work with multiple phones on one Apple ID?

My family has one apple ID and multiple devices on that account.  Is it possible for my wife and I to use Find Friends this way or does she need another apple ID?  When I put the app on her phone, it thinks it is me.  We want to use the app to locate one another.

Use "find my iphone" for one apple id and "find my friends" for multiple id's.

  • How to set up two iPhones on same account in Find Friends

I have tried to add a second iPhone5 to Find Friends, each time it tell me I can't send a request to myself.

Your music tracks and other media are associated with your account.  If you have two phones associated with one account it thinks you want the media on both phones.
If this second phone really isn't for you, then create another account for this other person on your computer and run iTunes on that account.

  • IOS 8 find friends on same icloud account with multiple devices

This has been bugging me and I have not found a workable answer to it anytime I have searched. iOS seems to have broken a simple functionality of find my friends. I have 2 iPhones on my iCloud account, in iOS 7 it was simple to share the location in find friends, that is now broken. I have read the directions about going to >settings.iCloud>share my location on the device and choosing what device to share the location from, that is simple, the problem is that it sets that as the device to share the location on for ALL the devices on the account. How can I get the old individual control over the devices that has been lost? This seems like it should be a simple "Apple, it just works" feature that is now convoluted.

Ok, figured it out myself. My first problem was that for some reason my phone hadn't activated properly with iMessage / FaceTime (my phone number was unchecked in the You can be reached by FaceTime At section in FaceTime settings). That required switching off FaceTime and iMessage and switching them back on again after a short wait so that they could activate properly, which they did.
Once that was done, my FaceTime settings (on my iPhone) had a new option: iPhone Mobile Calls:
My wife's phone also has that setting. Choosing which phone is used is just a question of only having this setting enabled on one phone at a time. I assume (all though I haven't tried it) that if both phones are enabled in this way, FaceTime on iPad or Mac gives you the choice of which phone/number to use. It wasn't giving me a choice earlier because there was only one phone enabled.

  • Question on Shared iCloud account and Find Friends

My wife and I share a common iCloud account on our iPhones because we want to share calendars, contacts, etc.  I recently upgraded to IOS 8 and it seems to have changed how Find Friends works.  Since Find Friends uses the main iCloud account as identifying "Me", both phones cannot independently report their location (i.e, if I set phone #1 to "share my location from" from phone #1, then the share location on phone #2 is set to phone #1 since the same iCloud is used on both phones).
I thought that I had this working correctly prior to the upgrade, but maybe I am misremembering.  Was there a way in prior versions to set up different apple ID's for Find Friends (like you can for Messages and FaceTime) so that it didn't force you to use the main iCloud account?

    Hi Seal,
And the Mac is connected to Wifi? Also, when you say the Find My iPhone "tab" doesn't locate any devices, want to make sure that you mean the Find My iPhone icon on the iCloud website on the Mac:
And when you click on the Find My iPhone app, you are not seeing anything at all under Devices:
Just want to make sure we are on the same page....

  • Setting Find iPhone for one account and find Friends for another

    Hi
Just updated one iPhone 5 to 8.1.1.  Previously I had find my iPhone for one .me account (I keep all the family devices under this .me account).
For the Find Friends app I had used a second .me account so I could locate the phone.
I can't recall how I configured this previously.  It seems settings wants to keep me locked on one account, not two.
    Thanks
    AS

If you want to keep everything in sync, you need to set up your mail using IMAP. I'm not familiar with Sky as to whether they offer an IMAP option or its just pop, you'll have to check with them. If they don't offer an IMAP option, you can get a gmail account, set that up as IMAP and then forward your Sky emails to your gmail account.

  • HT201493 How do I add pictures of my friends on find friends app??

In apple store, find friends app shows pictures of your friends added to contact.  I have tried and tried and can't seem to
    do it.  Any answers??

Use the contacts app. Select a contact for one of your friends and then tap on edit. Tap on the photo and select a photo from your photo albums to add to the contact. you can edit the photo by pinching and zooming. Tap Done when you are finished.
You do need to have a photo of each contact in your photos app. Once you set a photo to a contact the photo can be deleted from the Photos app.

My wife and I share the same email address but have separate IPhones. We would like to have each phone individually on "find friends" but cannot do it via email route. How is it done?

make seperate appleID's if you wish to be frinds or if you wish to facetime video chat and if you wish to not recieve the samme imessage msg's unless you turn it off
you can still set both your iphones to use an email address even if both have different appleId's
the appleID is a handle not a link to an email address

  • HT201493 If I erase the find friends app from my decice does that mean my friends can no longer find me?

Please answer(: I've Been needing this answer for a while about the find friends app

From Apple's page on Find My Friends at
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-friends/id466122094?mt=8
The one paragraph that seems to provide the answer is...
"Find My Friends can send your current location to friends even when the application is in the background and has been optimized to avoid draining your battery."
So it seems you need to have the app (in background) for your friends to see you.

  • Notify Me function in Find Friends app

Has anyone been able to get the "Notify Me" feature to work in the Find Friends app?  I believe I've made all the appropriate adjustments in Settings as well as the app itself.  However, when the friend arrives at the destination I selected, the app does nothing other than unselect the "Notify Me" button.  No alerts or notifications appear anywhere.

    Joe:
Thanks for the reply but please understand that the article doesn't address my question at all (nor does it really provide any details on settings, etc.)  For the record, here is what I've set up:
I am properly logged in with my iCloud and I am able to the current location of the friend that I am following.  This gets updated every 30 seconds or so.  So that part works.
In the iPhone settings area under "Find Friends" have selected "Allow Notifications", 5 notifications in "Notification Center" and "Sounds", "Badge App Icon", and "Show on Lock Screen" are all enabled.
In "Find Friends", once I see the map with the friend's location, I click on the "Notify Me" button which then asks if I want to notified when the friend leaves or arrives at a given location.  That in turn takes me back to the map screen where I see the "Notify Me" button.  Doesn't matter what option I choose (i.e., where leaves or arrive)--nothing happens.
    Therein lies the problem.
Am I supposed to have the Find Friends open all the time or is the notification also supposed to work in the background.  I have tried both approaches and neither yields any kind of notification.
    Hope this helps.

  • Find Friends app keeps saying "location not available" on iOS7?

After I updated my 4S to iOS 7, Find Friends will not actually find the person, it just pops up with "location not availble" everytime. I have tried restoring the phone, logging out then back in, and deleting the app then redownloading it and nothing has helped. The person I am trying to find says everything is working well on their end. Help!

My family has 5 iphone 5s's. Two of my kids and myself just upgraded from iOS6 to iOS7. Now, on my Find Friends app, their locations only say Location Not Available. However my wife and and my other child, still on iOS6, their locations immediately appear.
In talking with my two kids that are on iOS7, I have 100% confirmed that THE FIND FRIENDS APP MUST BE OPEN in order for their location to be found. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Furthermore, my kids will not leave the Find Friends app open because it drains their batteries at an extremely fast rate. This is a new issue for iOS7.
By confirm I mean this. On a hunch I called them when their location said not available, and confirmed that their Find Friends app was closed. I asked them to launch their Find Friends app on their phones. I then checked my Find Friends, and suddenly their locations were visible. I then had them close their Find Friend app, and sure enough, my Find Friends immediately showed their location as Not Available.
THIS BEHAVIOR WAS NEVER PRESENT IN iOS6. NEVER!. I have also 100% confirmed that my wife's phone, beside me as as I type this, has all apps closed, including Find Friends. However her location immediately appears in my Find Friends list.
I certainly hope that Apple will fix this immediately. I bought the five iPhone 5s's over a year ago, almost exclusively because of the Find Friends app, so I could keep track of my kids. Never once did we have trouble with Find Friends. And the app did not consume much battery, even when it was open.
