  • Computer finds iPod but iTunes doesn't

I would appreciate any help. I have tried everything to get iTunes to find the iPod. I have a Dell E521 and I have tried almost everything.
I removed iTunes and re-installed it (several times) I believe I removed all traces of iTunes before re-installing.
I changed the drive from (j) which was the default to (x)
I tried to change the start-up
I removed some KEY files that I heard to try.
I don't know what else to try.
I have two Nano's and neither work so I assume it is a computer problem.
The computer finds the Nano but thinks it is a hard drive.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

I'm having sync issues too since I've updated to 11.0.4.  My ipod 160 will no longer sync properly or will hang when attempting to sync yet my 4th gen touch doesn't have any problems.  I am thinking about uninstalling it and rolling back to an older version of itunes.

  • Videos no longer play on Ipod and I can't find them in Itunes

I originally posted asking for help getting the music off my Ipod onto a new computer after the hard drive crashed on the one all my Itunes info was on. Link to that discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=638286&tstart=0
That solution worked perfectly. Immediately after restoring all the songs from the Ipod to Itunes on the new computer I tried to download songs from ITunes using a gift card and I was prompted (forced, really) to update to Itunes 7 before it would download my selection. So I updated to 7. Now I can't find the videos I had previously in Itunes. They are on my Ipod but will only play as music, not as a video. I can't move them in Itunes from the music files to the video files because they just aren't there to move. I searched my hard drive for all movie files and found none. They exist on my Ipod but will only play as music.
I searched the forums and checked the settings on my Ipod for Video, TV, OFF.
    Any suggestions?

You should have a Maps app, though it is not the same as from previous iOS versions (it is no longer supplied by google, though they have a version in the App Store). You've checked all your homescreens and app folders for it, and tried searching for it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right) ?
In terms of iCloud, there is no separate app for it, it just appears as Settings > iCloud.

  • Hi I have recently had my computer reset and now can't find my original playlist on itunes for my ipod how can I find this or how can I put my music from my ipod onto itunes

Hi I have recently had my computer reset and now can't find my original playlist on itunes, how can I transfer it from my ipod into itunes, or how can I find the original one?

Expanding on what The Fiend said, the license to play music from a CD is tied to and stays with the CD. So if you sell or give away the CDs, the license to play the music goes with them, at which point you legally no longer have the right to the tracks. You need to keep the CDs if you want to keep the music.
As for transferring the tracks from your iPhone back to your computer so you don't have to re-import all your CDs, check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod/iPhone media recovery options:

  • How do I find out in iTunes if there is enough space on my iPod?

    Hello,
My iTunes folder has become bigger than the space available on my iPod. When I try to sync, iTunes tells me there is not enough space on my iPod.
Isn't there an easier way to find out how much data is in iTunes, like a button that says "calculate disc space"? I mean the process of finding out that your iPod is full is tiresome. You delete a few files and go back to syncing then iTunes tells you: not enough space. So you go back, delete a few files and this in an almost endless loop till you finally get the ok from iTunes.
My iTunes Media folder has around 80GB, but I heard that a 80 GB iPod doesn't store 80 GB but rather 70 GB. Is that true?

When you connect your iPod to iTunes and select it from the device pane, does it not show the capacity and amount of space being used by music, videos, and apps?
You do not have to sync your entire library to your iPod, you can selectively control what does and does not sync.
No device has the exact stated capacity, this is not specific to iPods.  There is always overhead that must be accounted for in the operating system running the device.  Also, every hard drive is unique in it's capacity.... could you imagine the disaster of marketing if every package had to accurately (to the byte) reflect the capacity of the device?

  • I can't find the podcast I put on my iPod in iTunes to be deleted

I've subscribed to a few podcasts and they seem to be filed in a different place on my iPod than on iTunes. I solved this problem for listening purposes by making a SmartPlaylist on my iPod so I could listen to the weekly podcast. But now that I've listened to it, I would like to delete last week's episode to clear room for next week's. But the only place I can find the podcast listed on my iPod when it's connected to iTunes is under that SmartPlaylist, and that won't allow me to delete the podcast episode off my iPod, only from the playlist. How can I find the podcast to delete it?
    Gateway   Windows XP

in itunes click on the podcast menu on the left side of the main menu. from there you should be able to find the episode you wish to delete adn you can delete it from there. then upon the next sync with your ipod and itunes the episode should be deleted from the ipod.

  • Where can I find ipod updater so iTunes 10 will see my scrollwheel 10G ipod?

Where can I find ipod updater so iTunes 10 will see my scrollwheel 10G ipod?
I used it exclusively on an old iBook. (POS from the beginning - bad motherboard, replaced, went bad just out of warranty. So I use it for only certain things.)
Now I want to load the scrollwheel ipod (also POS, bad motherboard where the headphones plug in, can't be repaired) from my iTunes 10 machine.
iTunes 10 does not see the ipod with it's 1.2.6 software.   iTunes 7.5 sees it but will no longer update itself or the ipod.
    - my sig:  Whatever we're talking about, please don't tell me to buy a new one unless you're willing to pay for it.  Thanks.

A "scrollwheel 10G" (10 GB) iPod may be 3rd gen...  If it's a 3rd gen iPod, the one with a "scrollwheel" and four "touch" buttons in a row between the screen and wheel (that glow orange), it will only work properly with a FireWire connection.  Although it has a dock connector, it does not charge over a USB connection.  If you Mac has a FireWire 800 port, you can use an adapter to connect to the old FireWire (400) docking cable.
Mine still works perfectly (it's had a few battery replacements) with the latest iTunes and Mac OS X 10.7.4.  I think it has great sound...

  • Where do you find Ipod classic games in itunes 9

I am having trouble finding ipod classic games in the new version of itunes 9. I have been purchasing applications for the iphone and itouch. I would like to find ipod classic games please help!!!

The links to iPod ClickWheel Games are currently missing from the UK store. I've dropped a line to iTunes Feedback but more probably wouldn't hurt. If you stick your applications folder in List view, select an existing game and then click on the store link (blue arrow) it should open the correct page for that game in the store. I can't work out the address to provide a generic link to the main ClickWheel page but this link below should take you to the page for Monopoly and you ought to be able to find other games from there.

  • Itunes can't find ipod anymore

i tried to uninstall itunes to reinstall but it says that I don't have the authority to stop ipod services.

Help!!! I'm at the end of my rope. I downloaded iTunes 7.0.1 tonight and sync'd my iPod mini. iTunes gave me the following error message "itunes cannot read the contents of iPod. Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings." I did that and everything on my mini erased. I tried to sync it again and got the same message. I've been all over this discussion board and tried EVERYTHING (changing the map drive letter, checking the msconfig file, checking services.msc) I even performed a system restore to see if that would work. Well, I'm sorry to report that nothing worked. I don't know what happened or what to do. All I do know is that I can't listen to my iPod because all my songs were erased and I can't figure out how to put them back on there.
From what I read, this appears to be a common problem...unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any explanations or solutions (especially not from Apple). Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Please help...I don't know what else to do.

  • IPod icon on finder, not in iTunes

When I connect my iPod to my iMac, I get a message which reads: "iTunes cannot read the contents of (this) iPod. Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click restore to this iPod to restore this iPod to factory settings." Problem is, it doesn't appear in the preferences menu, or in iTunes...so how can I restore it?

i seem to have sorted my problem. i went into spotlight, and searched for 'ipod'. my mac found a folder called 'ipod software updater'. i clicked on this and clicked on the most recent ipod update. reset the ipod to factory settings, and then asked it to open itunes once it had done this. My mac thought it was a brand new ipod and itunes detected it straight away. wierd huh??

Can I get the serial number for my ipod from itunes?

    Do the following:
    Launch iTunes on your computer.
Hold down your Control key, then on the menu bar in iTunes click iTunes>About iTunes (Mac) or Help>About iTunes(PC).
Any previously synced devices will scroll in a pop-up window; press the space bar to stop scrolling so you can write down the serial number.
