Hello.
Most phones will dial 911 and 112 even if your keyboard is locked.
The 1 to 9 numbers of the keypad can be programmed to dial a number if you press and hold one of them.
If you try to mantain your keyboard locked and inside a case instead of the pocked there should not be unintentional calls.

How to Open a Specific Folder in the Finder via Shortcut Key

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, so sorry for not finding it...
Is it possible to assign a shortcut key to open a specific folder with Automator or AppleScript? There are 4-5 commonly used folders buried 10-11 levels deep on a server and I'd love to have a shortcut key to open those particular folders in the Finder.
Could you give me some assistance?

QuickKeys may work, or you can look on http://www.versiontracker.com or http://www.macupdate.com for other alternatives.
Another option is to create aliases to those folders and store the aliases in a local folder which you can place on your Dock, the Finder window sidebar or toolbar.

Is There a Shortcut Key for Change/Find ?

Using the InDesign CS-5 Find/Change feature, I am always using the Change/Find button.

Since I use it so often, it would be good if it could be one of the "F" keys: F1, F2 or whatever.
I looked under "Edit --> Keyboard Shortcuts" ... but I could not find the option Change/Find there. Did I miss it ?

In the Commands window I have selected:

Now at this point, suppose I want to make the shortcut to activate this, the F4 key.
I click to put the cursor into the cursor into the box that says, New Shortcut
and then if I press "F4", it seems to be already taken by the Snow Leopard OS ... on my screen appears the Weather, calculator, calendar and clock.
So I cannot assign the key and create the shortcut.
Am I close to the goal here, or am I on the wrong track ?

ok, I found the keyboard viewer, it only shows the traditional symbol 'return'. something like a sideway u-turn continued with the arrow under. This is the Canadian or US keyboard.

Which shortcut key to open a directory or file in Finder?

I found that when I highlight a directory or file and then click "Enter", it actually highlight the file name and then allow me to rename the file.
In XP, it is a normal way to open a directory and file. So I guess there should be a different way to do so in Mac.
Instead of double click the directory or file, is there any shortcut key in Mac to achieve so?

Depending on how you are viewing things in Finder, just
clicking on a directory will open it. I tend to use the "paned"
view and this is how it works.
If you are using a "list" view, then double clicking does the
job. Are you looking for a short-cut to use instead of the
double click? Command-O "opens" things but I must confess
I have never used it on a directory.

Try trashing the .plist in Home/Library/Preferences which has CharacterPalette in its name.

Open the General tab of the Safari preferences and correct the home page; the default page is this one. If it has become set to a folder on an FTP server or a local drive, that request will be sent to the Finder. (28252)

Would it be possible to create a configuration item that will create a registry key if not existing in every users under HKEY_USERS?
Would a wildcard symbol (% or *) work for this?
Ex.Check if the following registry keys is existing, if not remediate.
HKEY_USERS\%\Console\%SystemRoot%_System32_WindowsPowerShell_v1.0_powershell.exe OR HKEY_USERS\*\Console\%SystemRoot%_System32_WindowsPowerShell_v1.0_powershell.exe

That's going to be really tricky, mainly because of permissions. I did something similar once for a different registry key. See as an example:

Use Group Policy to disable user interface items and shortcut keys in IE

Hi,
We are creating a kiosk mode of IE with full restriction to the machines drives and other applications. For that we need to disable all the shortcuts keys like ctrl, shift, alt and combination of these keys. Can anyone help me on this. i want to done this
through GPO. Client machines are windows 7 and we are having windows server 2008 R2 (AD server).

I need to disable the ctrl, Alt, and shift keys and combinations of these keys with other keys as for example, cltrl+H, Ctrl+o, ets., and most important thing is, we need to apply it only through GPO not by using any other tools/ applications.
I'm not aware of any GPO-only methods to achieve your goal (hence my other suggestions), sorry.
Others might comment here with their thoughts/suggestions/experiences..

Shortcut Key in JInternalFrame

Hi,
I have an application that has multiple JInternalFrames displayed within split panes. I am trying to set shortcut keys to cycle through the visible JInternalFrame. I have a Menu Item oCycleWindows, on which I called setAccelerator() with Ctrl+Shift+M. In th emenu handler for this item, I have defined a function that checks the current focussed internal frame, and accordingly picks the next one to get the focus.
My problem is as follows: on clicking Ctrl+Shift+M, I am able to see that the next window has focus (the title bar color changes), but when I use the up/down keys to navigate within the newly focussed window, actually the navigation happens in the previous window....
I have a tree view at the left, and two views at the right, and going from the tree view to any of the right views sometimes works correctly, sometimes doesn't (in fact i believe this happens every alternate time I shift to the non-tree view). Here, I have tables in the right views, and I try to select different rows using up/down keys once the right view has the focus, but the navigation occurs in the Tree view, with previous/next node getting selected instead!
The funniest part is, the problem isn't there if the shortcut defined is 'F6', but for any other shortcut (F12, F11, Ctrl+M, Ctrl+Shift+M, Ctrl+K, CTrl+Shift+K etc.) this problem is seen.
Does anyone have ANY idea why this happens? I tried to look up the bugs DB, but couldn't find anything specific to this...

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

Broken shortcut keys

Wow... Talk about frustrating. Every time I start
Dreamweaver, within a few minutes, I get an error (I believe the
error is java or spry related) when using random menu items.
Afterwards, shortcut keys no longer work. This makes doing anything
insanely slow. Restart DW and it does it again within minutes.
Anyone else run into this problem and find a solution? Haven't had
much luck with searches for it.
Adobe, why did you break DW???? I have had more problems with
DW CS3 and productivity has dropped considerably because of
annoying bugs like this! Version 8 was much more stable and I had
been totally happy since version 3. C'mon!!!

Shortcut keys in windows Safari

I've searched many topics and cant seem to find a Direct way, to change the shortcut keys in Safari for windows... I've tried searching disabling specific keys I've tried searching hot keys, shortcuts, but nothing... or the answers that are out there, are for mac saying go into terminal or something..
I have a WINDOWS computer, and am using a file to look into the .plist files that come with Safari. I am unable to find any hot key or shortcut adjustment options.

I am looking for this as well. I am currently dealing with Safari taking me back a page every time I hit my delete key, minus the times I am in a form field. I interact with a lot of Flash content and it seems that even if I am working with text when doing that I am taken back a page. I'd be very grateful for a fix to this if anyone knows how to edit this preference on Windows.
