Find location without GPS function

Can the user have their location detected via a WAP site without the use of GPS? In the case of search for nearby locations via a directory service on WAP without GPS functionality (when user cannot download app version).
Thanks!

This cannot be done directly. Phones with GPS will have the 'network positioning' feature which helps to obtain a GPS fix if satellite signals are poor, but I'm pretty sure it can't be used as standalone location method.
Any phone could theoretically know its approximate location based on which network base-station it is connected to (this is how network positioning works in GPS phones), but there is no software that I know of to put this information to use in the way you suggest.

  • Latest Google Maps Mobile finds location without GPS

... but not for iPhone. I have installed the latest version of Google Maps Mobile on my Blackberry and the location services are pretty cool. The article is here: http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/0,1000000085,39291153,00.htm
Google Maps Mobile with My Location info can be found at http://www.google.com/gmm/mylocation.html?hl=en
When can we get this on the iPhone???

Not quite. I believe iTunes checks for a new version of the iPhone sw on a weekly basis - or one week after the last automatic or forced "check for update." The timeframe does not correspond to an expected update.
It does, though there have been several times when my automatic update set itself to the day of a software release. I think they do include the release date in the "auto update" when they have a firm one set.

  • How to assign GPS / Places to photos without GPS?

I have a lot of pictures from my recent holiday in aperture and there are some iPhone 3GS Pics with GPS data amongst them.
Now I somehow dont manage to use the GPS Data from the iPhone Photos to assign those places to the Photos without GPS.
Do I have to give the Place a name or what firs? It didnt work for me to give other names to the places which have iPhone Location GPS than the names given.
In short: i dont know how to do it and i didnt find ressources anyway, can somebody help?
    thanks, alexander

Have you tried reading the Aperture manual?
You can assign a Place to all the photos in one project by entering the GPS information for the project once:
    *Assigning Location Information to Projects*
If all the images in a project were shot in the same location, you can save time by assigning location information to the project in Projects view. Rather than selecting images in the Browser and assigning them a location, you can assign the location to the project. Assigning a location to a project assigns the location to all versions in the project.
To quickly assign a location to all versions in a project
In the Library inspector, select Projects.
The Aperture main window switches to Projects view.
Click the Info button for the project to which you want to assign the location.
    The Info HUD appears.
In the Info HUD, click Assign Location.
In the dialog that appears, enter a specific address or the name of a place, a city or town, or a significant geographical location such as a national park in the search field.
Google searches for the location you entered in the search field and displays a list of search results. Place names that match the text you entered are displayed at the top of the search results list, and Google search matches are displayed under Google Results.
Select the search result that matches the location you are looking for.
If you would like to give the location a custom name, enter a name in the Place Name field.
    Click Assign.
The selected location is assigned to every image in the project.

  • Lenovo Helix GPS functionality

    Hey there.
First of all, I have to say the ThinkPad Helix seems to be a pretty awesome piece of kit, however I seem to be having a few issues with the GPS functionality.
I have had a look on the forums however I haven't been able to find any specific information as to the problem that I am having.
The Helix I have is the version with the Ericsson C5621gw 3G network adaptor. From what I understand you have two different types of GPS - standard, and assisted (which uses Wi-Fi/network triangulation to report a semi-accurate location). As far as I am aware, the C5621gw uses standard GPS, however I have been unable to get any GPS to work, even within the Bing Maps app.
When opening Bing Maps as an example, it constantly reports the location as being in London, even when I'm the other side of the country. When the Wi-Fi is connected there is little issue, however when using the 3G the location is always way off to the point of being unusable. I know that the GPS is built in through the network card, and that COM ports aren't used within Windows 8, as it uses a separate geolocation stack to report information based on the Windows Location Provider.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening? If the C5621gw only uses assisted GPS based on mobile network location then I guess there is very little that can be done, as this may be a network dependent feature, however if it does use standard GPS then something is clearly wrong. I have location enabled within the OS, and all the drivers are installed as they should be. I have listed the drivers installed below.
On a different note, I also have an issue with the BIOS as well. When tapping to enter the BIOS before Windows starts, it automatically goes straight onto a blue screen and restarts itself. The BIOS has been updated, and I am using the stock OS that came with the device.
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated
    Nukey

Have disabled Windows location Provider, and went outside and waited for about 10 minutes. GPS did not appear to connect. Maps app does not respond when I try to go to 'my location'. Also installed a Win8 app called 'GPS Satellite' and it showed that the GPS was 'initialising' and would not find a location.
Then installed Visual Studio 2012 and the WDK so that I could run the Sensor Diagnostic Tool. I observe that the C5621 chip is staying in the 'initialising' state and doesn't seem to get out of that.
However, if I re-enable the windows location provider, then I see that:
    - Maps now finds a location, albeit the wrong location
    - GPS Satellite app now finds a location, same wrong location
    - The sensor diagnostic tool still says 'Initialising'. Huh?
So I'm wondering if I'm looking at the right fields in the Diagnostic tool. Either I'm looking at the wrong thing, or the GPS is just not working.
Can you please take a look at the screenshot of Sensor Diag tool and tell me if the red circled field is what I should be looking at?
    thanks

  • Iphone 3G  GPS function

    Hi,
Has anyone recently been having trouble with their Map App? The GPS function do not track me accurately... I could be 2 blocks away or 20 blocks away. It also does not smoothly track my position either, all over the map. Plus the range for the potential position is large as well. My area has great cell phone coverage, so GPS shouldn't be a problem.
Anyone else with this issue? Is there a fix to this?

I am having a similar issue with my 3GS.
The map app runs very slow, when loading my current location, trying to find a new address or getting directions between address. This happens on wifi or 3G network.
Also the map app has 'lost' it's accuracy to the location. Usually it is with in a 2 or 3 block radius, but on the old operating system it was much more accurate and quick.
I upgraded to iSO4 and had issues at first with the lost connection, and i got the error message to re-calibrate in a figure 8 motion. I re-synced last night to solve the 'fuzzy pictures' issue and now the map app is just slow.
Any one have a solution. Should I back up and restore. Advice???

  • How can one develop "view only" client applications in Lookout? This is to develop remote monitoring without control functionality.

How can one develop "view only" client applications in Lookout? This is to develop remote monitoring without control functionality.
We have 10 Client Nodes in the field and we need two "View Only" functionality in Client machines located on Supervisory Desks.

I have done this. There are many ways to approach this but I will offer what I think is the easiest. This will work ONLY if you have been assigning security levels to your objects (objects that actually control devices in the field) greater than zero AND allowing a security level of zero to view all panels. When I develop interfaces I do this just for creating a non control client.
Basically, you remove all users from the Lookout client in the user manager. You will not be able to remove the built-ins, "Guest" and "Administrator". Now when the end users tries to login using his normal login he will be denied. Consequently, he will not be able to control. But, he will still be able to view all the information since a no login can view a panel with a viewing se
curity level of zero. You must ensure any pushbuttons that are used to open panels have a security level of zero.
Now you can copy this security profile by finding the lookout.sec file and copying it to another non-control client computer. In Windows NT this file is located in the system32 directory.
There are many other ways but I find this the easiest.

  • IPhone 6 location services/gps not working

Anyone else have an issue with iPhone 6 location services/gps not working? I have had it happen to me twice where it stopped working for good 7 or 8 hours and then all of sudden it starts working again. For example, directions don't work, every time I open Apple Maps it will say "Cannot determine location", then when I press the location icon on the bottom left, it will try to search again and have an approximate location but not exact, where as the iPad that I have right next to it is able to pin point the exact location. Sometimes the location circle is pulsing blue sometimes its gray. If I am driving and have tracking on it won't track, and so on.  I have tried to setup the phone as new without restoring the backup, when it stopped working with no luck, it still didn't work. I went and restore it back from backup and few hours later it started to work again. This has happened twice now since I got the phone last Friday.

Check your "Privacy" settings on your iPhone see what apps are using your location.

  • I want to set up my time capsule on a completely new network & location without losing the old backups. How do I do this?

I want to set up my time capsule on a completely new network & location without losing the old backups. How do I do this? I cannot find anything in the user manual.

The TC is very hard to just move.. it retains too much of the old network setup.. buried deep in the bowels of the firmware configuration files.. or even on the hard disk special partitions used by the TC.. invisible to you btw.. !!
Do a factory reset and setup from scratch.
That factory reset will have no affect on your backups.. even if you rename the TC.. not a bad things since you also want clients to respond to the new network.. simply reset TM to the new TC name and location.
    See A4 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.

  • How do I find photos without a keyword tag?

How do I find photos without a keyword tag?
And by the way a further question regarding keyword tags remains unanswered...Why is there a difference between the number next to the keyword and the actual index number in the keyword folder?

I will try and explain in more detail to ensure we don't talk past each other.
I'm in "Catalog" and "All Photographs" is highlighted.
I selected to show the "Index Number" under "Library View Options".
In "Keyword List" I have main keywords such as Europe, Africa and Asia with no number to the right of it.
If I open the Europe keyword I have a list of countries each of them with a number next to them.
Next to Spain there is now showing the number 46.
I open "Spain" by clicking on the arrow to the right of the number.
Now all the photos with the Spain tag is shown but there are only 23 photo.  Under Portugal there is 80 shown but only 40 photos is shown.  Under Ireland the keyword only 11 is shown but once open there are 1132 photos.
There is not one keyword with the correct number next to it.
As a fairly new LR user it just appears to me that the two function don't "speak" or "correlate" with each other.

  • Where in the function palette can i find the "logical shift" function (shift x by y bits)?

i am not able to find the "logical shift" function anywhere on the functions palette (after searching EVERY where). however, i discovered the function elsewhere in another VI (by pure luck!). i could keep bringing up these VI and copying and pasting, but that's a pain...i'd like to just have it on my functions palette to begin with.
i am running labview 6.1 thanks for your help.

    hi,
LabVIEW's functions pallete has come with a very useful tool --> "Search" tool
Make use of the "Search" tool should you encounter difficulty in locating the desired function. For instants, search for keyword "Logical" or "Shift" and you will be able to locate the function
    happy coding

  • Cannot find location with iPad 2

Cannot find location: I have an iPad 1 and a newly acquired iPad 2; even if they are side by side, the iPad 1 will find its location, while the iPad 2 cannot, and thus, lots of applications do not work. What to do ?

    Hi Ogie4139,
Since you're missing both the AirPlay and AirDrop icons from the Control Center, please try and reinstall iOS on your iPad by following the directions below.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • Maps App w/ Find Location Error

    Hey Again Everybody!
I was bored and was messing around with maps to see if it could find this lake(i already knew how to get there) and when i clicked the find location button to find my location it says
    "Unable to find location"
I heard that it "triangulates" your possition (i dont care about spelling ATM.)so does that mean i need to have three registered networks or like three or more networks near me?
It wold be a lot easier.
    Please Help! :S
    -Nick
P.S: Do i need to go into contacts, register myself, and add something that tells it that i am that person so it know what country i am in. I think i confused it being not in the USA. LOL!!!!!!

Were you connected to a WiFi network when you tried this? First, for Maps to localize you, you must have a functioning WiFi connection. If there are other access points within range, that helps localize better (smaller diameter circle around your location). The "triangulation" applies more to the iPhone, which in addition to WiFi points uses cell towers (not possible on the IPT). The WiFi locator relies on the Skyhook database; you can request WiFi points be added to the database here:
    http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
    Hope this helps...

  • Assigning Superior Fuunctional Location to a Functional Location

    Hi Experts,
I am assigning a Superior Functional Location to a Functional Location in IL02. This allows the Functional Location to inherit data from the Superior Functional Location.
However, im my scenario this is incorrect as I do not want the data to be inherited and overwritten.
Does anyone know how I can do this to prevent the data being overwritten - in terms of in IL02 or Configuration? When I use IL02 it does not give me the option to prevent it from overwriting.
    Thank you,
    Muna S.K Ali

There is no customizing to change that. If you copy from either ref. functional location / functional location, some of the data will be copied automatically.
Even you create some superior FL first & then derive sub FL, some fields will be copied automatically.
Go to Menu Edit => Data Origin list, you can find the fields inherited from superior.
If you want to change, go to menu Edit => Data Origin & change the option to Maintain individually
Refer this thread for further clarity.
