Find me/Follow me features in Skype for business/S...

Does Skype for Business support find me / follow me features?
I recently discovered that if you associate a Business Account with a SIP profile, that account can no longer log in to the Skype App anywhere.
I was looking for the ability to have a call come in to a skype number and ring all devices such as the mobile phone app/desktop app/assigned SIP profile.
This way a business user can pick up calls on there office phone or on their mobile/computer when on the go.

Skype account association to a SIP account should have not effect on your ability to log in to a Skype app. What happens now if you try to sign in to Skype with that account?

  • Skype for Business Android client (feature request)

Hi, I assume that the Mobile version of Skype for Business client is due out soon to replace Lync 2013 client, one thing i really wish would be added is the ability to send files to mobile clients.  Surely this isnt a big technical problem as the Windows clients already do this so surely this could be added to the mobile clients.  Having this feature would really make life so much better for our small business as we could send out documents to our engineers instead of emailing them.  Doing this via S4B would immediately notify the engineers of the msg and then it would allow quick and easy 2 way msging between the office and engineers.  I really cant see why this feature wasnt in Lync 2013? Also is there any news of an ETA for Skype for business mobile clients? Thanks JK

  • Skype for business/ Lync feature request

I know that Lync will soon be rebranded as 'Skype for Business' so it would be nice if this was a feature.
A useful feature would be if you could set what your bitrate was for your Lync Video call. For example, I have multiple sites with synchronous 50Mbit connections, I don't need Lync to auto change the quality. I need it to remain HD. I have the bandwidth
for it. I know other VC systems have the ability to set bitrates, so I think it would be a useful feature for Lync to incorporate. What do you guys think? Also, if we had CBR or less VBR 2-5Mbit. It would be a much better system for newscasting and the likes.

  • Skype for Business not updating icons on start menu - Using OCT for Lync 2013 deployment

We're currently deploying Lync 2013 to out fleet using the OCT to customize where the shortcuts are created.
What we are finding is that the Skype for Business Patch does not update these icons.  It only updates the icons if they are in the default location (no OCT).
Is there a standalone Installer for Skype for Business we could apply a TRANSFORM to? Or some other method of updating all icons startmenu, taskbar etc.
    Thanks

    Hi Alan Dooley,
Have you tried to create a new desktop shortcut ?
In addition, you can try to follow the FAQ below to rebuild the icon cache.

  • Skype for Business: Admin would prefer you to use Lync or it's the only version server supports.

We're running Lync Server 2013, in house, and some of our more fearless users decided it would be a good idea to install the newly released Skype for Business client.
    These users were greeted with the following prompt;
You have the newer version of Lync called Skype for Business. However, your admin would like you to use Lync or it's the only version your server supports. Please restart now to use Lync.
I suspect, that our server is causing this. Can anyone point me in the direction of server prerequisites/patches/updates/KBs that might help eradicate this message?
    Many thanks in advance,
    James Vincent

    Hi,
It is controlled by the server (Client policy), when having Feb-2015 Lync CU installed on your Lync frontends, you can control the UI of the client by using Client Policy on the Lync side "Set-csClientPolicy -EnableSkypeUI $False or $True"
nevertheless you need to know that if you block the Skype UI users will get the mentioned Warning Message and the client will reboot into the old Lync UI but still they will have some confusion with some points (refer to this article for more details
    http://masteringlync.com/2015/04/04/change-is-coming-what-enableskypeui-doesnt-do/ )
If you want to block the whole update, you can do that by blocking the new updates and patches released two days ago using "SCCM or WSUS" although I think if you haven't done that already it is little late for that.

  • Lync 2013 - Skype for business User Interface

    Hello,
We are using Lync 2013 with Lync 2013 server with CU from August 2014 (so not ready for Skype for Business).
I have installed latest Desktop Updates for Windows and Office, and now everytime we log on we get the Skype for Business UI with the question to restart the client with the Lync UI.
I have followed the recommendation in this article:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx
    I have set this:
In the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync] key, create a new
    Binary value.
The Value name must be  EnableSkypeUI, and the
Value data   must be set  to 00 00 00 00.
But this settings seems to be completely ignored... doesn't do anything.
We can't set the policy on the server, as the server is not yet up-to-date and doesn't know about a Skype UI policy.
Can somebody please tell me how I can start the updated Lync / Skype for Business client with the Lync UI as a default (without disturbing the user with the restart-the-client pop-up)?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
As mentioned the Lync Server is not up-to-date, based on my knowledge this is why the issue occurs.
Please refer to this article below:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx
You can configure the client experience only if you are running Lync Server 2013 with the December 2014 Cumulative Update (5.0.8308.857) or later installed. The latest one is:
KB 3036869 February 2015 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.871 for Lync Server 2013 Core Management Server.
You can specify the client experience the users in your organization will see by using the
Set-CSClientPolicy cmdlet with the EnableSkypeUI parameter:
    Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableSkypeUI $true

  • Need Help with Skype for Business!

I purchased the Skype for business for an entire year. Now, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to log in. Do I have to link it to original skype? I am new to this and have no knowledge of the formats of Skype or it for business.
Subject/title expanded to reflect post content a little more accurately.

Hi, and no need to feel stupid!
    Welcome to this on-line community.
A few questions for you to clarify the Skype product you are working with, so we can send you in the right direction in an effort to resolve the problem:
Are you referring to either Skype Manager, or Skype Connect?  Do you recall what "business" product you have?
Or, what are you trying to sign in to?  A Skype account via the Skype website, or the software itself?
This FAQ article should help unravel the mysteries of the differences between a personal Skype account and a Skype For Business (formerly known as Lync) configuration: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34551/what-s-the-difference-between-skype-and-skype-for-business
Thanks in advance for providing the additional details.

  • Has anyone seen any issues with persistent Chat in the Skype for Business Technical Preview client? No Messages dispalyed.

    Hi all,
We are testing out the new Skype for Business technical preview client
with Lync 2013 and although we're not really users of Persistent Chat, I wanted to install this feature too so I added a server pool just to check things out.
I can post and even search the history (which shows results), but apart from seeing my immediate post, when I close the room a re-enter I see nothing. I get a notifications that there are new posts, but clicking "Read" button also does nothing.
We're off for Easter and I wont have access to another Lync 2013 client until we return, so I'm not sure if there is just something odd with my installation.
I would be interesting to see if other are having this issue.
    Cheers
    Chris

  • What happens when Skype for business evaluation expires?

I am testing Skype for business within my company before actually rolling out teh Skype for Business for all. I am using Skype for business evaluation version to test the features and/or and impact it would have on Lync 2013 existing users. I need to know
what happens when the skype for business evaluation patch expires on 1st May 2015, what will the users see? will it switch back to Lync 2013 on its own or do I need to uninstal the package to do so?

    Hi Ketan Tank,
Agree with Anthony, you can get the updates (KB2889923 & KB2889853) through Windows Update.
The Skype for Business Client will already be activated as it is an update to an existing licensed product.
    Best regards,

  • Skype for Business

We presently have an Office 2007 environment. We plan to deploy Skype for Business. What is the best deployment path? Install Lync 2013 and upgrade to Skype for Business or install Skype for business directly. Where can I find the Install server guides?

Deploy Skype for Business directly if you don't already have Lync 2013.
    Deployment guides are here:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398616.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 and continuing to be developed.  The server software will drop in early May.

  • Skype for Business & Lync : Contact icons not appe...

In our environment we have several users that are using Skype for Business, and the rest using Lync.
We have noticed that when migrating our users over to Skype for Business, the contact functionality that shows "icons" next to each person's name is now blank.
As an example, my personal icon shows up for me but none of my contacts show their customized pictures.
Lync users can see my icon and can see everyone elses.
    Thank you

  • Skype For Business SDK

Is there a plan to develop a REST API for Skype for Business Online? I've been trying to search through MSDN as well as the Office roadmap but can't really find a clear answer. I know the current Lync SDK's will still work with Skype, but this is only
    for on premise Lync servers.

  • Skype for Business price

    Hi
I tryed to find price info for Skype for Business but can not find any. Is the price/user/month for Skype for Business the same as Skype Premium? Is there some differences between Skype Premium and Skype for Business?

I was looking into this as well. All I could find on it is an MSI installer, which is useful for employers with an IT head, but not so much the self-employed.
From what I'm understanding after reading through FAQ's and such is that depending on your business and whether you plan on using group video calls or not, you may not even need a Premium subscription. If it's just you, or a couple of computers using Skype, it's easy enough to keep them all on the same install version. I used this chart for my decision since I don't need the MSI files of the business client. http://www.skype.com/en/premium/
