  • How to configure Reporting functionality to SharePoint 2013 if RS is already installed as Native mode

Is it possible to publish reports to SharePoint if SQL Server 2012 reporting service is on native mode?
    How to do it?
I have SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012. I have created cube and reports with its data tools. This is single server environment.
This is what I have done:
    A) I can successfully see from SQL Server installation tool that "Reporting Service-SharePoint" and "Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Products" are checked.
    B) I don't see Reporting Services under the Manage Service Application of the SharePoint Central Admin.
    c) When I choose report from reporting service project and I click deploy, it asks Reporting Services Login, but it does not accept admin logins. Server path should be valid.
I got idea from following instruction that I should register and start the Reporting Services SharePoint service
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219068.aspx
    C) I tried to run command Install-SPRSService, but it was not recognized cmdlet command.
    D) I see from Reporting Service Configuration Manager that Reporting Server Mode is Native. Report Service Status is Started.
    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_I,
Since the release of SQL Server 2012, Reporting Services SharePoint Integrated mode has been changed from a Windows Service to be a SharePoint Shared Service. In this way, Reporting Services Configuration Manager no longer supports Reporting Services SharePoint
mode, and all the configurations of SharePoint mode is completed using SharePoint Central Administration.
In SSRS 2008 R2 or lower version, only one report server (either native mode or SharePoint integrated mode) can be active at one time in one SSRS instance. In SSRS 2012, the report server that runs in SharePoint integrated mode and the report server that
runs in Native mode work separately at the same time in one SSRS 2012 instance. So, in this issue, you don’t need to care about the report server that runs in native mode when you work with the report server that runs in SharePoint mode.
First, please install SQL Server 2012 SP1 which introduces more BI features.
For the issue you encounter when running the commands to register the Reporting Services SharePoint Service, it may occur if you run the commands in the Windows Powershell instead of the SharePoint Management Shell. Please launch the SharePoint Management
Shell by clicking Start-> All Promgrams -> Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Products -> SharePoint 2013 Management Shell. Then, please continue the steps in the following document or blog to create a Reporting Services Service Application:
Install Reporting Services SharePoint Mode for SharePoint 2013
Installing and configuring SQL Reporting services on SharePoint 2013
After a SSRS Service Application is created properly, to deploy the project to the SharePoint integrated mode report server, please see the project property settings in the following document:
    Project Property Pages Dialog Box

  • SharePoint 2013 Labeling deprectaed

    Hello,
we are using Label in "Information management policy settings" for libraries to show the document version inside office documents  with "{Version}".
This feature seems to be deprecated in SharePoint 2013: https://support.office.com/en-US/Article/Discontinued-features-and-modified-functionality-in-Microsoft-SharePoint-2013-bbbb0815-2538-4f1d-b647-1f7f6d508c93?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
Is there another supported way to show the document version from the list inside of an office document?
    Thanks, Rainer

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to use
the “Label” in “Information management policy settings” for Document to show the document version inside the office documents with “{Version}”.
In my environment, I do this test and the result is that the version in the document library can be shown inside the word document.
I recommend that you can follow the steps as below to configure both the document library and your word document.
To configure the Document Library in SharePoint 2013:
      1.  Go to the document library, click on the “Library Settings”, click on the “Versioning settings” and make sure that you have checked the “Create major versions” or “Create major and minor (draft) versions”.
      2.  Go back to the “Library Settings”, click on the “Information management policy settings”, click on the “Document” content type, check the “Enable Labels” box, but don't check either of the other two boxes in that section.
      3.  Type {Version} into the “Label format” box, click on the “Refresh” button to see a preview of your version label like {_UIVersionString}, and click on the “OK” button.
    To configure your Word Document:
      1.  Either create a new document or upload one in the document library, open the document and edit it,
put the cursor wherever you want the version label to appear.
      2.  Go to the “Insert” tab, click on the “Explore Quick Parts” button in the “Text” section, find the “Document Property” and select the “Label”.
      3.  The version label will show up with the corresponding number in the word document, save the changes of the word document.
Then, you can close the word document and reopen it. The updated version will automatically appear where you put the version label.
The result is shown as below:

can you please provide me below info
    1) How to start preparting ? is there any pdf's or books available
    2) How many questions will be there in actual exam? how many marks ? pass mark?
    Thanks
    kkm

    Hi,
As Luigi already explained you need to know about all the topics listed in the exam information, they will be used in the exam questions.
Unfortunately the MS-Press self paced study title for exam 70-480 has not been released yet.
But if you look on amazon then you will find some SharePoint 2013 related books that might help:
    http://www.amazon.com/70-489-Study-Guide-Developing-SharePoint/dp/1493583611
Some real-life experience with designing SharePoint 2013 is recommended, if you are new to designing SharePoint  then it might to be difficault to pass this exam.
Also consider to go for the Developing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 Core Solutions exam first (exam 70-488). This exam is also part of the MCSD: SharePoint Applications certification:

  • Slide libraries are no longer available in SharePoint 2013, what to plan when upgrading from 2010 to 2013?

What will happen to the existing 2010 libraries when we try to upgrade them to SharePoint 2013? What can we do to them now to prevent them from breaking since we are currently on SharePoint 2010?
    -Kash

    Hi,
If you're using a third-party tool, you can map the slide libraries to standard document libraries.
Even if is no the subject, you can still create Slide libraries in SharePoint 2013, please see : http://techtrainingnotes.blogspot.fr/2012/11/finding-missing-sharepoint-2013-slide.html.

We are looking to upgrade to SharePoint 2013, and are concerned about the Meeting Workspaces.  I understand that they need to be operated in 2010 mode, how does this work?  Do we need to switch from 2013 to 2010 and then back again, based on
what site/subsite we are on?  What does this look like?  How can we fix this, is there a way to change the existing meeting workspaces to team sites instead?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For running SharePoint Designer 2013, you need to install Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework or higher.
Please uninstall the Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework, and install it again. After that, reboot your machine.

    Hi,
Please try to do as follows:
    1. Check your farm solution whether reference the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll. Or try to add the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll into the bin folder.
    2. Execute the iisreset command.
    3. Create a new farm solution and check whether the issue still occurs or not.

If these errors are occurring around 3am and the server does not have access to the Internet, the cause could be the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) failing to contact the CEIP servers.  Disable CEIP at the farm level in  CA->System

Also, disable this in each web application including the SharePoint Central Admin web application.
Then, just to make sure, disable the CEIP Data Collection timer job.  With the June CU the problem may recur even with the CEIP options disabled in CA.

  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 encountered an error during setup

(the html editor over here is a pain you know where - not even bold text is working...)
Every time I try to install SP 2013 SP1 on my WS 2012 R2 Update virtual machine the installer dies.
NOTE: I can reproduce this any time. Both the SharePoint 2013 (including SP1) .iso as well as the WS 2012 R2 (including Update) .iso are fresh copies out of the MSDN library.
The installation fails where the installer tries to install the binaries. No configuration wizard yet. I made sure all the prerequisites are there. The PreRequisitesInstaller.exe reboots the virtual machine several times (twice) and then it is all set.

    Any ideas?
UPDATE: Installing office prior to the sharepoint installation had no effect (solution was suggested  here).
UPDATE: Installing all windows updates (for Windows Server and Office client applications) didn't help either... same error.
UPDATE: I made sure my windows server and sharepoint server images are exactly those you can currently find on MSDN. SHA1 hashes match.

I just did a Server 2012 R2 and SP 2013 w/ SP1 install the other night on Hyper-V running on 8.1 Pro without issues. ISO was from MSDN.
Have you run a crc (or md5, forget what is used) to validate the ISO matches what MSDN says it should be?

  • Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper Error during SharePoint 2013 install using Hyper-V on Windows 8.1

I have had a few virtual machines that built fine... one I’ve been using to test with works about 33% of the time and fails with the same error other times.
I have tweaked the RAM and the # of Virtual Procs and nothing seems to consistently fix it.  Specifically I've disabled dynamic memory, set the RAM to 8GB and the number of procs to
    4. I've also downloaded the SharePoint ISO from multiple sources (MSDN/TechNet/Trial) thinking the installer was possibly corrupt - same issue.
At this point I'm thinking it is either an issue with Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 + SharePoint or else something specific to my hardware but it is terribly hard to troubleshoot an error that
is intermittent. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

@Trevor, I'm new to MSI debugging...  now that I have a verbose log, what should I be doing with it?  :)
The area of the error appears to be:

  • Where yo find reporting services log files in sharepoint 2013 integrated mode

i use to find the reporting services log files in the msrs folder in sharepoin 2010 integrated mode. but when we migrated to sharepoint 2013. i am not able to find the logs.i wanted to check all the executed sql statement using the logs as we don't have
access to sql server profiler. does anybody know the location of yhe logs?

    Hi there,
Not sure you'll see the sql statements however you can find information on the ULS logs here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc627510(v=sql.105).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487871(v=sql.105).aspx
    and here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156500(v=sql.105).aspx
You might want this once ULS log is capturing info.
