Find my Friends. Shared Apple ID. His and her iPhones.

My wife and I each have iPhones. We share an Apple ID. Can we use Find my friends if we share the same Apple ID?
thanks,  eli

Just create another iCloud id.  On the phone go to settings MAil,Contacts, Calendars.  Then hit add account, icloud, get free apple id at the bottom.  Then after you put in date of birth and location it will ask you to use an existing email or get a free @me.com one. I chose @me.com for my wife because I have her email listed under my main apple id so I didnt want to run into any problems. This is working great for me.  Theres one step that asks you what to sync to icloud i turned it all off cause we are sharing one icloud id for find my iphone and photostream. Its working well!

I don't have Find My Friends installed but if I understand correctly, the photos that would display on your friends phones would come from the Contacts on their phone. Here is a previous discussion that may help: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25429023#25429023

  • Server error on Find My Friends after apple id change

I keep getting a server error on find my friends after I updated my apple id.  I have made sure I've updated my apple id everywhere including icloud.  What is really wierd is when I go into find my friends, and click on "me" the "Send As" under invitations shows my old apple id but when i click on that to change it, my new id shows up in that space.  Its like the iCloud has a glitch on my old apple ID.  I'm not even sure a complete phone restore would work if icloud is the problem.  Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem! I started out with an old @mac.com address that then got migrated to an @me.com address. I log into my account with the @mac, but my email address is @me. It seems like the app is trying to verify the @mac email address, which doesn't exist anymore. I can't believe there isn't a fix for this yet!

  • Find My Friends & iCloud & Apple ID

Hi, a few days ago I was informed that my main email provider was shutting down (O2).
I used to have the O2 email address as my Apple ID. So I changed it for a Hotmail address via Apple ID website.
I changed my iCloud email to the same Hotmail address too, as I don't store anything there anyways.
Problem is that Find my Friends uses my O2 account to log in, if I take the key lock off my phone it automatically logs me out.
I then have to go to Apple ID to make my O2 email the primary account to be able to log back into Find Friends.
As the O2 account is soon to close, I will soon no longer be able to verify the O2 email as my primary and I'll be locked out permanently
or I'll have to keep a key lock on my phone constantly.
Basically I need to sign out of Find my Friends and re-enter my new Apple ID.
Anyone know how to do this, please???!!!
    Thanks.

How was this resolved?  I have tried i sign into iCloud, but never do receive the email to verify and authenticate my sign in?

  • Find my friends is not locating people, and they get the same from me

Find my friends was fantastic, until... It died?  I only had 3 peeps on it, and now only one can be "located" when I know they are all right down the block!
My daughter thought I had blocked her from "seeing" where I was because she was getting the same "location not available" message.
Someone help? She (daughter) is a reserve firefighter, and sometimes it is important for me to know that she is on a call.

    Try resetting the password.

  • Hardware "find my friends" can not be downloaded to my iphone

i tried to download the hardware "find my friends" to my iphone, but i couldn't sync with my itunes, is it because of the version difference? if it is, what can i do with upgrading the version??

Where EXACTLY did you get the phone?
That indicates that Find my iPhone was set up on the phone prior to updating it to iOS 7. iOS 7 turns this into activation lock... If you don't know the ID/password that was used, there is no way to bypass it and activate the phone at all.

  • Find My Friends not showing up under Cellular on iPhone 4s

I can't figure out why my daughter's iPhone 4s (iOS 8.1.2) doesn't have Find My Friends showing up under Settings>Cellular.  Data is turned on and other apps are listed in the "Use Cellular Data For" section.  The result is that she only appears on Find My Friends when she comes into a wifi network - otherwise her location doesn't show up.
I can't figure out how to get Find My Friends to even show  up in the "Use Cellular Data Ford" section at all.  It used to be there and it all used to work fine.  I have updated iOS. I have turned Cellular Data on and off. I have restarted the iPhone I have even deleted and restalled the "Find My Friends" app.
The phone IS signed into iCloud.
I am running out of ideas.
It worked last week, it isn't working now and I don

Here is how to do this:
Have your daughter sit next to you with her iPhone.
On her iPhone, do Settings > WiFi = "Off".
Start the Find My Friends app.  Make sure it displays her current location.  Then return to the home screen.
Now check "Use Cellular Data For".  It should appear.

  • More than one iPhone, his and hers, how to share music?

    Hey folks
We've had this issue since we've had iPods and its finally bubbled to the surface enough that I cannot take it anymore.
I have a desktop mac with a 250gb music library - I buy all the music in the house and it lives on my machine. I have an iPod touch (soon to get an iPhone) that syncs to the library, including my contacts, calendar, aperture photos, etc
My wife has her own macbook and her own iPhone. Our music library is too large to fit on her MB's hard drive (even if we get a 300GB drive for it, that does not seem like a practical solution).
I thought you could sync different things (music, video, podcasts) to different computers ... but apparently that was incorrect.
So my question is - what do you do when more than one person in the house has an iPod/iPhone? Having her iPhone sync to my library trashes her contacts, applications, photos, etc ... if I disable those things on my library and enable them on hers, it trashes the music.
I know we can "manually manage" the music - but that is also less than desirable. My only other thought is to set her up as a user on my desktop, create a sym link to my iTunes folder and rsync the library file to her ~/Music and use mobile me to sync contacts b/t her macbook and the new account ... surely that is not how apple would have us do it, is it?
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I thought you could sync different things (music, video, podcasts) to different computers ... but apparently that was incorrect.
You can sync iTunes content with a single computer only.
You can sync iTunes content (music, video, and apps) only with one computer, and sync everything else such as contact info, calendar events, bookmarks with a different computer along with transferring photos to the iPhone with a different computer - or sync iTunes content and transfer photos from one computer, and sync contact info, calendar events, and bookmarks only with a different computer. An iPhone can have different sync preferences with iTunes on different computers.
Best to disable automatic syncing for each iPhone when connected, which can be done with the iPhone sync preferences for each, or globally for when any iPod or iPhone is connected via iTunes preferences on each computer.

  • I have 1laptop with1itunes account under my name (his) and 2 iPhones and a iPad and my wife had our nice download her music list off her computer on my wife's phone can I copy my wife's music library on to my phone

I have 2iphones and 1itunes account how do I share the music file if it got it's music from another persons computers iTunes account

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • HT1495 My daughter synced her phone to her brothers itunes library, and her iphone now thinks its her brothers iphone.  How do I get it back to normal?

My daughter synched her iphone5 to her brothers itunes library, and now her iphone is calling itself Kyles PC.  Along with all of his IDs and icloud.
How do I get her iphone back to normal?  If I "restore" her ipohne will it delete the itunes library?

Restore the iPhone from the last backup taken on the machine it is normally sycned with. Before connecting the iPhone use Edit > Preferences > Devices to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically or there is the danger that the backup will be overwritten with the current state of the device.

  • HT204053 Family shared Apple ID, Icloud and Itunes passwords & accounts confusing

We started out sharring itunes when kids were smaller and now they are older and have their own iphone5.  How do you share itunes (with one password) with the family and all have their own icloud with individual icloud information without it all crossing.  The Apple store said it was possible.  Any ideas how to separate the passwords?  Every time I change mine it makes the Apple ID and my Icloud the same and the kids have their own Icloud email and passwords they just set up.  Trying to make Apple ID and Icloud separate passwords and family share itunes or even split itunes up somehow if we have to.

You can continue to share the same Apple ID for iTunes on all your devices; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.  If you change your iCloud account to a new ID you will be creating a new account, which will leave your current iCloud email address and photo stream behind.  Is that what you want to do?

  • Sharing between itunes accounts and computer/iphone

My husband and I each have our own itunes accounts. I want to put some of his music (from his itunes library on the computer) into my iphone music library. We can't figure it out. Homesharing doesn't appear to be working and drag/drop doesn't work either.
We both have the latest version of the software installed on our respective devices (iphone 4s has 5.1 and computer has 10.6.1.7)

    Many thanks.
We will need to get his music into your iTunes in order to sync it to the phone. Your jump drive technique is a good way of doing it, but home sharing is also an option (assuming both computers are on the same wireless network).
If some of the music you want to shift from him was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd set up the Home Share using the Apple ID that the music was bought with.
See the following document for instructions on how to turn on Home Sharing on both computers:
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have iTunes open on both computers. On your computer, select his library in the iTunes source pane as per the following screenshot:
You can pick and choose which items you want to copy across. (Select the items and then click Import down in the bottom right hand corner.) If you import a lot, the transfer is going to take a while.
If you do things in several batches over an extended period of time, it might be easiest for you to have "Items not in my library" displaying in the Show menu rather than "All items". (That will cut down on the possibility of accidentally importing duplicates.)
Once you've got the items in your library, you'll be able to sync them to your phone.
