Find my iphone not free for 3gs

So even though i have the same iOS4.2 software and apps as an iphone4, I can not use the free Find my iphone app. withour paying $100? Fail apple service is fail.
Yes, I have iOS4.2
Yes, I downloaded the app and followed the instructions.
I then got a message that my device is not eligible.

Why would you expect any product to always have the same features of all future products. This is absolutely normal for consumer electronics.

Hi All,
I created a free Mobile Me account with my iPad and enabled 'Find my iPhone' on it. After that, I went to my 3GS and activated 'Find my iPhone' successfully.
The thing is: nothing works with the 3gs. With the iPad, I can lock it, and send messages to it (I didn't try to erase it, for obvious reasons). I cannot send messages to the 3GS and can't lock it, either.
Both devices with the latest iOS version (4.2.1).
I tried erasing all email accounts, and reseting network configuration. Push enabled.

There is a loop hole. Just register your account using the same steps on any iphone4 ipad or itouch 4th gen FIRST then u'll be able to use your account on your 3gs that allows it to track your iphone...up to a max of 3 diff devices. google the other forums, this was what i read from them.

HI, I am having the exact same problem. I was finally able to get my phone to show up on my daughter's by following your steps ( I will probably deactivate), however I still cannot get her phone to display on mine, which is my obvious goal. The advanced/Share Locations settings on her phone are greyed out and I'm unable to select them. All other iCloud, location, find my phone settings are activated. I am still using my iTunes account on her phone, as I want control over any type of purchase she tries to make, however I had to make her her own iCloud account to get Findmy phone to recognize her phone. I don't know if this matters?? Sorry for the long explanation, but basically, my phone recognizes hers via Find my phone, but it tells me she is "online and not sharing location" Can't figure out how to resolve this. Suggestions?

Did you try with a different phone? Have you moved a WiFi hotspot recently? Are all locations wrong, or only one? You may have a hardware problem. Take the phone to an Apple store for evaluation. Make a reservation first: http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/us/en/techsupport/

Find my iPhone not working

My son's iPhone 4s was locked a few months ago by some friends who were playing a joke on him. They input the wrong passcode over and over again until it was locked indefinietly. I had to restore the iPhone using a method I found online and got his phone working again. I didn't realize it until recently, but his Find My iPhone app no longer works. It is on and logged in as my Apple ID (although I have to continually put the password in). Anytime I try to use Find My iPhone to locate his phone, it shows me that his phone is offline. Even when I open the app on his phone and try to locate his phone, it says it's offline.
I feel that this issue has something to do with the restore that I did. I don't remember exactly HOW I restored the phone, but know I used iTunes. I've checked his settings for Location Services and Find My iPhone...All are active and Find My iPhone is active on my sons phone. His phone is also updated to the most recent iOS software. The wierd thing is, I CAN find him or his phone using the Find Friends app. He has a tendency to misplace his phone in our home and the Find My iPhone app is great because it allows me to send a signal to play a sound to help us locate it. The Find Friends app doesn't have that capability. Has anyone else had an issue with Find My iPhone not working after a restore?

Here are some reasons:
Your iCloud account is not configured on your device. Choose Settings > iCloud and enter your iCloud account information.
Your device is not update. It needs to be running iOS 5 or higher.
The date is incorrect on your device. Choose Settings > General > Date & Time to check and set the date.
Your device has lost network connectivity. If you have access to your device, and it appears to have an active Internet connection, in this case enable and then disable Airplane mode or turn the device off and back on.
Your device appears in Find My iPhone, but is offline, the reasons:
Your device is powered off, such as when the battery has run out.
Your iPhone’s cellular service has been terminated by your wireless service provider.
Your iPod Touch, iPad, or Mac is asleep and not connected to a known Wi-Fi network. The command will be processed when your device is awakened and connected to the Internet.

I am wondering why the card games that I play for free on my iPhone and iPad (and PC as well) are not free for my Mac through iTunes? It makes no sense. I have a new 13" apple macbook pro laptop running yosemite.

iTunes does not sell anything for your Mac.
You would have to buy apps from the Mac Apps store for your Mac.
They may differ in price, because they are not the same thing. One is an iOS app, then other is a computer app.
The maker of the app can choose what to charge for and what not to charge for. It could be that one contains ads and the other does not.
At the end of the day, then maker of the apps decides what to charge or if to charge.

There are tow ways you can handle this. One is to copy the notes to your computer using iTunes to send them to Outlook. The other would be to create or have an iCloud account so that the notes are synced online and then all you have to do is sign back in to get them. iTunes keeps saying iPhone not eligible for the requested build after downloading the update directly through itunes with the lateset version of itunes.

Here are some suggestions for your error message, copied from
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. The update is available for those using iWork '09. If you have never previously purchased iWork ’09 and have not bought a new Mac since October 1, you will have to purchase the applications. There are several reasons why the updates don't show as free for those who already have iWork '09 installed.
1. You must have iWork '09 apps installed & they must be updated to the x.3 version. You can also download the standalone updater from this page.
2. If you are not using English as the primary language for your Mac, change to English & run Software Update. You can then switch back to your preferred language.
3. Go to Mac App Store (MAS) > Click on Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads. You will need to individually click into each application > Click update > enter in your Apple ID & password and then it will start updating.
4. Open App Store on your Mac & look at the buttons under Keynote, Pages & Numbers. If it does not say “Update” click Account under Quick Links, enter your password & click “View Account.” Next, click the “Reset” button to the right of “Reset all warnings for buying and downloading” at the bottom of this page, & click Done. Check your updates tab & iWork & iLife updates should now appear.

Keynote is only free to purchasers of a new Mac within the first 12 months of purchase.
Upgrading to Yosemite on older Macs does not qualify itself for free upgrades of Keynote.

You did not describe the problem very well. Go to iCloud.com, log in with your Apple ID, and select Find My iPhone. Click All Devices In the header. Do you see your iPhone in the device list? If not, Find My iPhone was activated using a different Apple ID.

Hi Guys, I'm upgraded to iOS 4.3.1 and the Find My iPhone feature is not working. My MobileMe account picks up the iPhone but says: No Location Available. Even though I can pick up my location on Google Maps/Facebook/Camera/Google without any problems on my iPhone. I installed the Find My iPhone app on my iphone and the same thing happens, picks up the phone but give a message: No Location Available. I tried on 3G/Wifi still

i had all the same problems as everyone. then I tried powering down the ipad (even when I bought it, it was in sleep mode so it had never been off). to power down, To turn off the iPad, locate the hold button on top of the iPad, at its right side. This is a physical button, not an onscreen one. Press the hold button for a few seconds, until a slider appears at the top of the screen that says "slide to power off."
To turn the iPad off, move the slider from left to right. If you don't want to shut it down, tap the "cancel" button at the bottom of the screen.
After I turned it back on (by pressing and holding the same button), it worked!
