Find my mac not working properly on Yosemite

手贱试了一下Find My Mac的锁定功能,Macbook Air自动重启然后一直卡在灰色背景画面不动,有个鼠标可以动,还可以播放声音。不能解锁了,求帮忙啊~
I am so stupid to try the Find My Mac feature and locked my Macbook Air.
The Macbook reboot automatically, and stuck in a gray background. Mouse can move. I can even play sound with Find My Mac.
But the most important thing is that I can't unlock my mac with the 4 digit password I set. There is no place to input it!

Remove power(not sure if relevant ), hold on shift when reboot. That leads to unlock screen.

  • Find My Mac not working for a non-admin account

I would appreciate some advice, or comment, on what I perceive is "Find my Mac" not working.
I use a Mac Mini (late 2009) to run my home media; it on 7/24, connected to a drobo drive and is running the latest Mac OX X Lion. I did a complete erase and install of the OS, and the recovery partition IS there.
I use an auto-login account, but with no administrative privileges. There is no monitor, keyboard or mouse connected to it, but in case it gets stolen, I want to find it.
When I log in with an admin account, I can turn on Find My Mac, under icloud prefs. When I relog into the normal user account, this preference is greyed out, and says "Needs administrative authorization".
So, is Find my Mac running, cause I turned it on with an admin account, or not?
If no, how do I make sure it is always running?
    thanks

These are the notes of the steps I took which finally got my MBP to appear in FMM:
I clicked on the MBP remove device-> I took the MBP Wi-Fi off line-> I went to iCloud Pref's, unchecked find my Mac-> turned Wi-Fi back on-> went to iCloud pref's re-checked 'Find my Mac'-> went online to iCloud.com, selected the MBP, which had found it's location. I sent a message and sound to the MBP from the Mac mini, which instantly came up on the MBP.
SO, eventually my MBP 'Find my Mac' is working.

  • Find my mac not working

    hi there,
Ive upgraded my MBP and handed down the old one. For some reason both Mac's are showing that they are online but no location available while connected to my 4g wireless WiFi network. When I connect both of them to an ADSL WiFi network they locate with no problems. It seems to be an issue with the wireless WiFi network. Ive got a iPad mini that does the same, won't show up on this network but will on an ADSL network. Before working out that it looks like a network locating problem I checked the time and date and reset the location services.
It was probably a fluke that I found out that they were locating themselves on the ADSL network.
Ive been using this network for 2-3 years and the 2011 MBP had no problem locating on Find My Mac previously while running 10.9 or earlier versions. I'm now running OS X 10.10 on both
Does anyone have any idea's on how to fix this?

  • Find my Mac not working in MB Air

I am trying to activate Find My Mac and iClud preferences says I must update Recovery System. If I check Software Update there is nothing there and download manually and install seems to work (download is 456 MB and install 73 kb??) but error remains. Thanks.

The TUAW instruction didn't work for me.
Got a MBP late 2008 connected thru Airport, ran 10.7.2 combo update on a 10.7.1
1.I ran Disk Repair from Recovery HD, did not find any errors.
    2. Tried to install the RecoveryHDUpdate.dmg, got an error msg saying:
"Lion Recovery Update can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirement for this update"
Does anybody know why I could not run the recovery udpate?

  • Find My Friends Not Working Properly after iOS 7 Update

Following update to iOS7, the Find My Friends app doesn't seem to work properly anymore.  In particular, when the app is on, or running in the background (i.e. you can see it when you double tap the home button) everything is fine and my friends can see my location.  When the app is killed, i.e. off or not running in the background, then my friends cannot see where I am.
That was not the case with the old iOS where regardless of the app running in background or not, my friends could still see my location.  Has this happened to anyone?  Does anyone have a solution?
    Thank you!

Appreciate that, but it's not as useful now.  Many users have the same issue, also see

  • Find my iphone not working properly

Does anyone know if the Find My Iphone service is currently not working? I have it installed on my ipod at a home location and my daughter has taken a spring break trip and I am using it as a safety backup well, just in case (it is spring break after all, and shes 20 hours from home). Around 3 hours after starting her trip it stopped tracking, and hasn't picked up a signal yet (It's been 14 hours) What's strange is it's also having trouble locating my other devices that are sitting right next to me (locations are 30 minutes to an hour old). She has location services on (when she tweets it has a location) but find my iphone cannot track. This is really worrisome because lets face it what's the point of having a feature if it doesn't work properly.

Find My iPhone with an iPod Touch requires the iPod being connected to an available wi-fi network.
I just tried the Find My iPhone app on my personal iPhone 5S and it successfully located my MacBook Pro and iPad 2 connected to my wi-fi network at home and my business iPhone 5 connected to T-Mobile's cellular network.

  • Mavericks power nap find my Mac not working

I wanna know if anyone encounters problem on find my Mac when your MacBook is sleeping.
Mine doesn't work suddenly, obviously there is certain app that prevents it from updating location information during sleep.
    Here are the suspects:
    Utorrent
    Shiftit
    Xquartz
    Firefox
This is so frustrating. I tried wiping everything on my hard disk and find my Mac works. I will have to waste so many hours to test which app is the culprit. Find my Mac updates location every one hour during sleep, so I have to install one app and then wait for an hour to see if find my Mac works during sleep.
Does anyone have any idea or experience on this? I don't wanna waste time on it just to have find my Mac working again.
Apple support could only suggest reinstalling so they're useless actually.
I just started to use osx a month ago and already hate it!

    Just one question:
Are you able to find your mac everytime you want? Or just every hour?
I think that the ability to find your mac just happens once a hour, im wrong?
    Thanks

  • "Power Nap" & "Find My Mac" not working together

Is anyone else having issues with "Find my Mac" and Power Nap? Its supposed to be to find the MacBook air when it is sleeping but im not having any luck. my MacBook air has the latest firmware, and find my Mac is enabled under iCloud.
I can find my MacBook air when it awake. Just not with the power nap feature when it's asleep, Power nap is check on under Battery and Pluged in, and it's charge 100% and plugged in.
Any suggestions ? Or anyone else having this problem?

  • MacBook Air and Seagate 3TB not working properly since Yosemite

Hey all, I'm stuck all of a sudden so I'm hoping someone can help.
I have a mid 2012 MacBook Air (1.8GHz i5, 4gb DDR3 Ram) and a Seagate 3TB external hard drive (model SRD0SD1). I've never had a problem with either of these units. I upgraded to Yosemite the other day but tonight was the first time I've really used my computer since then. I went to back up some photos/video from my iPhone to the drive, and during the transfer I got a warning about not properly ejecting the disk. I checked the connections thinking the USB may have come lose, but everything seemed fine. I plugged it back in and could only see the folders, no file. I restarted the computer and could see everything fine, which is awesome, however now I cannot write to the disk at all. I get an error saying, "OS X can't repair the disk Seagate. You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk. Backup the disk and reformat it as soon as you can"
I tried repairing the disk in Disk Utility anyways, but I wasn't shocked when it didn't work. A friend of mine works in IT for a university and said this has been popping up a lot the past week or so. Does anyone have any insight/recommendations as to what to do next? I'd rather not replace the drive, it's less than 2 years old!
Thanks in advance for the help, it's much appreciated.

    Seagate problems here too..
    with a macbook pro 15 late 2013
Since the upgrade to Yosemite it does not read my 1 tb Seagate.
Icon does show on desktop, but finder wont open it.
I tried connecting the drive to an other mac and it works fine.
Other 3.0 usb devices work fine on the macbook.
So it seems to be a seagate-specific issue.

  • Help! Trackpad gestures are not working properly after Yosemite update

So yesterday I updated my MBA to Yosemite. And since then I'm facing severe problems with my trackpad. Scroll and click gesture works as usual, but the other gestures suddenly stops working. I even checked my trackpad settings, but couldn't find any setting issues there. They won't just respond to any. Is it just me or everyone is facing such issues.

worse than that, my MacBook Pro FREEZES when using 4 finger swipe on the built-in trackpad for App Expose after upgrade to 10.10.1
Before 10.10.1 everything was working fine. Now, about one third of the time I use the 4 finger swipe the computer is dead (apparently mostly when using Numbers). I can still use the mouse but no response to clicks, keyboard, trackpad, or screaming out loud. All I can do is turn it off!
This (in combination with Mail issues) is so bad that for the first time since using Mac I start thinking going back to PC...

  • Why is my Mac not working properly now?

    1. I emptird trash
    2. I verified permissions & then repaired permissions.
    3. I restarted the machine to reset the pram...
    Instead of pressing cmd & alt with P & R, I pressed cmd & ctrl with P & R...
Since then my mac had been showing grey screen with apple logo & then turning itself off.
I can get to a language selection box by repeating the cmd+ctrl+P+R.
After choosing English, OS X Utilities box appears with four options.
    Options are:
    Restore From Time Machine Backup
    Reinstall OS X
    Get Help Online
    Disk Utility
I went into disk utility and selected the previously working hard drive from the list...
I'm not really sure what to do or if I can rescue the situation...
I'll attach some photos I've taken.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply!
I got the red error message, Disk cannot be repaired.
You have directory damage and you should not use your MBP until the damage has been repaired to avoid damaging your directory any further.  The following software will repair you directory:
You must use the versions that are compatible w/your OS system & keep the utilities updated to avoid damaging/harming/trashing your system.  http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
DiskWarrior   Highly recommended for *directory damage* repairs.
    TechTool Pro   Multi-functional utility.
    Drive Genius Multi-functional utility.
You will need to make your own decision on which to purchase.  Read up on them on their websites because each does something a little different.
    OS X (10.6.6)
After you repair your directory, update your OS to OS 10.6.8 which is the last version of Snow Leopard.  Use Software Update as you are probably behind in other updates.

  • Finder search tool not working properly?

I'm having truble with the search tool on the Mac. I open a new finder window and hit search for a file and it only turns up SOME of the files, not all of them. In the screenshot here: http://twitpic.com/4wrbsi
you can see that i typed screen shot into the search tool and it only turned up 2 of the items in my desktop titled screen shot. The third one is highlighted in red. What should I do from here? Reindex finder or something? Thank you

Have you found a solution? I have just tried to search for a file by name, only to come up with no results and lo and behodl it is sitting in a folder. Is it possible that I may have set prerences to not search? I use search a lot, so desperate for this to be fixed.

  • Mac not working properly

Safari and Firefox are running very slow and I cannot open iTunes or QuickTime Player after doing the following updates:
    Updates:
    OS X Update 10.9.3
    iTunes 11.2.2
    Safari 7.0.4
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.05
    I get the following messages:
iTunes quit unexpectedly while using the MediaToolbox plug-in.
QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly while using the MediaToolbox plug-in.
    or
The last time you opened QuickTime Player, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?
I had to install the OS X, iTunes, and Digital Camera updates twice.  The first time I got a message saying one of the updates did not install.  However when I went to redo the update in the App Store all three were ready to update, so I chose update all.
Also, after the first update process finished a message popped up saying the mac was being optimized and performance could be affected, that was over 24 hours ago.
I just noticed the speaker icon on the upper right corner next to the day and time is grayed out.  When I click on it the volume is turned all the way down and I cannot raise the volume.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Run the combo updater but if you still have problems, I would do a reinstall of OSX using Recovery Drive.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 (Update (Combo)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1746
Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

  • Airdrop not working properly after Yosemite upgrade

    Hi guys,
My airdrop in my macbook pro cannot anymore detect any apple devices around me (my itouch and my iphone) after I upgraded to yosemite. If you have any suggestions on what to do, I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Well that is the way it is until they fix it. old mac versions can send you files but you cant send files to old versions.  airdrop is normal for yosemite to yosemite though
EDIT: I do suggest you email files instead. or get file upload websites where you send a private link and whoever you give the link to can download it

  • Help Viewer in Finder and iTunes not working properly

When I click on any of the links in the Finder help viewer, nothing happens; if I type something in the search box, a list of topics display but if I click the show button for any of them, nothing happens. Same in iTunes. Looks like my help is screwed up with Apple apps. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Danycom,
Try this... locate these files: com.apple.help.plist and com.apple.helpviewer.plist and com.apple.recentitems.plist and
    There are located here:
/Home/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate those files and drag them to the Trash. Empty the Trash and reboot. This fix should also correct your iTunes Help Viewer also. If this doesn't do the job, post back and we'll dig deeper!
