Find my macbook pro

My brother can't seem to find his macbook pro. I was wondering maybe there was something like "Find My iPhone" that can help find the macbook pro.

  • I woke up at 3am to find my MacBook Pro in the middle of a file transfer using AirDrop.

I woke up at 3am to find my MacBook Pro in the middle of a file transfer using AirDrop. I had not accepted any file transfers via AirDrop as I was asleep so I am a bit confused by all the posts that say that the only way it will work is by the end user accepting a request to transfer files. I am on a home network which has both a soft and hard firewall. I checked my firewall logs and have no signs of intrusion or intrusion attempts. I checked my network map to see see if someone had brute forced my router and was using it but the only assets listed were mine. My router is set up to not be accessable from wireless computers, and is filtered to only allow use by a assets in the MAC Address list. I am an IT by trade but this is my first mac so I am not completely savy in the ways of the ways of macdom. I have found several posts with suggestions on how to turn off and came up with the following terminal command "defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser DisableAirDrop -boolean YES". My question is this, how is it possible that my AirDrop was activated and in the middle of a file tranfer if I did not initiate it? I do have a MacMini on my network but its WiFi is turned off so the transfer was not with it. I have read on different posts that you cannot AirDrop if the computer is not on the same network but there were no foreign assets on my network. So my question is this
    1. If AirDrop can not be used with another computer if it is not on the same network, how was it being used?
    2. How can AirDrop be used to xfer files if I did not accept or initate it?
It seems to be a pretty big security hole to me. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

It could just be a bad disc - I use Verbatim and have only had one fail in a ten-year time period. Try getting a batch of Verbatims and see if you have any problems. I didn't even know that there were Kodak branded discs...

  • Find my macbook pro using iCloud

Today i loss my macbook pro 2009 model. It has Mountain Lion and iCloud enabled. also I know my My Macbook Pro serial number. But I protect it with password but guest user also enabled. My precious data is in My user's folder. Now my questions are.
How can I find my Macbook pro using iCloud, If someone know kindly tell me in details.
Is there possibility that user can connect to Internet because now it has not admin rights because only my name user has admin rights and it is password protected. I think if he'll connect to Internet I can access iCloud.
How much my data is secured.
How can I delete my data from iCloud.
I am bit sad. Kindly help to find my mac. Thanks

    1. If you turned on Find my Mac on your Mac, open http://www.icloud.com, log in with your Apple ID, and select "Find my iPhone" to track your MacBook. You can see where's the Mac, lock and wipe it, but it must be connected to the Internet. If you haven't turned on Find my Mac, you can't track the computer.
    2. If he connects to the Internet using the guest user, you will be able to track, lock and wipe the Mac.
    3. It's so easy to reset your user password, so your data isn't so safe. However, if you wipe your Mac from Find my iPhone, you won't be able to track it anymore.
    4. If you want to delete data from iCloud, just open http://www.icloud.com and start deleting your data

  • Where do i find my macbook pro model number? like a1398?

where do i find my macbook pro model number? like a1398?

    KadenP wrote:
Unfortunately, that's not it either.  On the bottom of my MBP from Mid 2010 it says "A1286".  That's great, but that's not the unique model number.  For instance, looking for a keyboard for it I found one that is compatible with:
    (MC371LL/A, A1286, MacBookPro6,2) - Mid 2010
    (MC372LL/A, A1286, MacBookPro6,2) - Mid 2010
    (MC373LL/A, A1286, MacBookPro6,2) - Mid 2010
Each one of those is MBP6,2 from Mid 2010, model A1286, but what about those first sets of numbers?  Is mine one of those three?  Or did they make more than just those three and mine may be one of the ones not listed?
I can't seem to find any way to know for sure, short of ordering the thing and hoping that it fits.  :-/
Those are "order numbers", in this case:
    MC371LL/A = 2.4 GHz CPU
    MC372LL/A = 2.53 GHz CPU
    MC373LL/A = 2.66 GHz CPU
These are all the flavors there exists for a model A1286 with identifier "MacBookPro6,2".
Going back to the excellent earlier post of babowa  I believe it works as follows:
The model number (A1286) which you can find on the bottom of your MBP doesn't say too much: it's used from late 2008 to mid 2012 MBP 15" models.
In addition you have model identifiers (MacBookPro6,2), which in your case nears it down to a mid-2010 model.
But you can also have different model numbers for a single model identifier and there comes in the EMC number Balboa mentions. I believe it's a unique comination between a model number and a model identifier. For example, the MacBookPro3,1 can be a 15" or a 17", which each a different model number (A1226 and A1229) so they each have a unique EMC number. I wouldn't know where to find the EMC number on a MBP, by the way.
One step down: within each model identifier you have several order numbers, the three you have listed above. Generally they distinguish different CPUs in standard configurations. However, if there is CTO/BTO option to upgrade a CPU it would not have its own order number. My BTO MBP 17" mid-2010 has an i7 2.66 GHz CPU but the order number is equal to the standard i5 2.53 GHz CPU.
Apart the very good website babowa provided a link to, you can download the free (donationware) application Mactracker from the App Store, which is a well maintained database of about every piece of hardware and every OS Apple ever released with a very friendly user interface. Click on "This Mac" and you got all the info I described above.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can purchase AppleCare anywhere as long as the enrollment code is provided in the box and it is for your designated Mac model, and the machine is less than a year from its purchase date.
Then go to http://www.apple.com/register/ to register your enrollment.
If you already purchased AppleCare, and the online search can't find it, there is still a chance the enrollment may be recorded at AppleCare's Apple offices somewhere. Don't hesitate to call AppleCare:
    (886) 0800-095-988
to see if it might just be a glitch in their online search.

  • 10.5.6 Update screwed up my Finder/Dock (Macbook Pro)

I have a year old Macbook Pro and I just did the new update. It boots in and everything looks fine, but I can't click on any doc items, nor click on anything at the top "Finder, File Edit etc..". I can browse the HD and when I try to launch an app nothing happens.
    What is going on??

Not sure if that is in reference to something I clicked to open?

  • I cannot find my MacBook Pro serial number anywhere!?

I just recently purchased my MacBook Pro from a seller locally on Craigslist. I couldn't find the serial number on the surface of the laptop (under the battery) or through the system:
I have been searching all over Apple's website for this, but I cannot find any information on it!
Please don't tell me it's "stolen" because every product I have registered goes through fine and I get no error. Additionally, the guy I bought it from said that he had a fresh installation of the new OSX Lion and it didn't give a serial number.
I'm new to the Apple Mac products, and when I saw my cousin's old MacBook I was able to find his serial number was engraved behind his battery.
Mine doesn't show anything engraved at all, besides what model #'s the laptop contains.
    Further info:
    15"
    Model #: A1226

The 1st picture shows as such because I clicked it. I'm assuming this is what you're talking about:
I was stupid because I completely forgot when I met up with him that I texted him asking what the serial # was and he didn't reply.
Then when I met up with him, he even told me to go over the mac, test it out, and ensure myself that I was happy with it. As I looked for the serial number, I didn't see it, and that's when I asked him why it was missing.
He said the number erased because he had to do a "fresh installation" of the OSX Lion. I read in other articles that people have had to do this with the older MBP models (aka core 2 duo) and it has caused the serial number to erase from the specs.
As for the last picture I put, I just noticed that there was something there...then I thought to myself that's where the badge would be.
I've been looking all over in Google for my model and where the serial number should be, but can't seem to find it...
I guess I'll deal with it as is...
Only weird thing is, that if it were "stolen," then why have I been able to update the software from Apple without any issues?

  • One movie file can not respond in finder of MacBook Pro? How to stop it responding?

In my MacBook Pro,Finder is not responding---others are working.Laptop becoming hot.How to solve it?

My guess here is there is some issue with the use of Paragon NTFS. Perhaps updating it or using another NTFS driver (like Tuxera, or its free alternative NTFS-3G) will work. All in all, using NTFS in write mode with these options will be using a non-supported approach for accessing your drive, which could lead to odd problems if Apple makes a change that interferes with the functions of these drivers. At other times, such drivers use inherently less stable approaches (such as the FUSE environment) that could lead to problems if not formatted correctly.
If your drive is working, and the formatting is checked out properly in Windows and other systems, then I'd suggest you check on your NTFS driver and update or replace it. Alternatively, if you only use the drive with your Mac, then consider formatting it to Apple's native Mac OS Extended. Lastly, if you use the drive with multiple operating systems, then consider using FAT32 or ExFAT as the format, as these are fully supported in OS X (unlike NTFS, which is only supported for reading).

  • Where can I find cheaper Macbook Pro's?

Hey everyone! Just wondering do any of you know where I can buy a cheap Macbook Pro? Any second hand websites or refurbished machines? I am finding it hard to find anything suitable. As I live in Ireland the cheapest Macbook Pro I can buy is €1299 as listed on the Apple Store. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I would not purchase a Mac over the Internet that did not come with a warranty.  Here are two sites that sell used Macs with warranties.

    OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Apple_Systems/Used/Macs_and_Tablets
