Find old Bookmarks on Opera browser

I have a Powerbook G4 and am using Panther. One day, when I opened the Opera browser (I was using 9.5 version), a message came up that I should download the latest Opera. I did so and I checked to see that the same Bookmarks were there. They were so I trashed the old browser. I don't know what happened but the next day when I opened the Opera browser all the bookmarks had disappeared.
Today, I got a backup hard drive that has my old data on it. It should have the old version of the Opera with the bookmarks. I attached the hard drive to the Powerbook and the drive mounted. I then went into Applications and dragged the icon of Opera onto the desktop. But when I open it, the new Bookmarks are there, not the old ones.
Where can I find the old Bookmarks that were there on the browser of the old version of the Opera. The backup on this drive was made before I downloaded the new Opera browser. Where should I look?
Thanks.

I think I found it, but it is a TextEdit file. I went into Users, then my home drive, then to Library, then Preferences, then Opera Preferences. That is how I got the TextEdit file. How can I convert this file so that they become bookmarks on the browser?

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.
Otherwise you need to restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup.
That will replace all the current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created.

  • Accidently deleted the default profile-wher to find old bookmarks to restore?

I accidentally deleted the default profile while try to delete a username for a website, which was memorized by Firefox. On a Mac OSX, where do I find the bookmarks file that was in use before deleting the default profile. I have to restore the bookmarks or at the minimum, gat a list of those with their url so that I can make new.

You are on Mac OS X 10.4, so you do not have the Time Machine that more recent versions have. If you did remove the entire [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and do not have a backup of that folder then all your personal data including the bookmarks is gone.

  • My computer crashed but I was able to rescue my files. How can I transfer my bookmarks from the old Firefox browser and install them in the new computer? I can't find the bookmark file in the old browser.

I'm transferring my files from a HP laptop to a Dell desktop because the HP crushed. I installed Firefox 8 in the Dell computer (I had the Firefox 5 -I believe- in the HP). I'm looking for the old bookmarks file in the old computer but I don't find them. Where are they? I'll appreciate your help because I had a pretty good collection of bookmarks. Sadly I didn't back up them on time.

  • How do I find an old Bookmarks folder and addresses therein on Time Machine?

How do I find an old Bookmarks folder and addresses therein on Time Machine?  My current bookmarks folder was overwritten by iCloud.

    Short Version: Restore ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Long Version: First you need to open your (normally hidden) Library folder.  One way is to press option then use the Finder Go menu to select "Library".  In there you will find a Safari folder. Open that folder then enter Time Machine.  Restore Bookmarks.plist.

  • Can I re-use old bookmarks doc that was accidentally trashed

I'm running OS X 10.8.5; recently on Chrome I accidentally deleted my Bookmarks. I did save the old bookmarks doc(renamed) from the trash while the newer Bookmarks that is now on Chrome is an old version.
I would like to be able to reset the old bookmarks doc back into the current Bookmarks menu on Chrome; When I open it, it opens in Text Edit which doesn't look at all like the format when it's used in the Chrome Bookmarks menu.
Is it possible to do this ?
    Thanks

I recently upgraded to a new iMac. I used my old iMac's TM backup to populate the new machine and was awestruck with the intelligence and efficiency of the operation. I then assumed that the old TM settings would have been transferred and that the new machine would continue to back up to the same destination. I now realise that this hasn't happened and I have gone a long time without backing up. Was my assumption simply incorrect and this is not the expected behaviour, or was the assumption correct but the process faulty?
I would like to continue to use the old backup if possible because there may well be stuff that I've deleted that I want to restore (happened the other day when my career took another involuntary zigzag...). But when I point Time Machine to the external disk in question it wants to start all over (and there's currently not enough space).
if you migrated from the old TM backup TM should give you an option to continue old backups on the very first actual backup. but the first backup will be full no matter what. if there is not enough space on the TM drive the easiest thing to do is to erase the external using disk utility (DO NOT try to do it from finder) and start backups from scratch.
Is it possible to persuade it to carry on where the old machine left off?
If it isn't, is there any value in keeping the old backup? >
    that's up to you.
Would I be able to access it in future if there was something I desperately needed?
yes, if you wanted to. you can always access them in browse mode. control-click on TM in the dock and select "browse other TM disks". but then you should get another external for current backups. and keep in mind that your TM drive should be at least twice as big as the total amount of data you are backing up. this is needed to accommodate incremental backups and also, TM needs some extra free space to operate.
I'll be grateful for any assistance.

  • How can I stop Firefox from opening (to "File Not Found") when opening my Opera browser?

Ever since I installed Opera 10.61 on my new computer (Windows 7 Ultimate operating system), whenever I open Opera, Firefox opens one second later with the following error message:
    '''File not found '''
Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Users/Nasheed/AppData/Local/Opera/Opera/temporary_downloads/client-en.xml.
    * Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
    * Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
    TRY AGAIN.
    <nowiki>****************************************************</nowiki><br />
This happens EVERY TIME I OPEN THE OPERA BROWSER. How can I stop this from happening? I'm stumped.
[EXTRA INFO - I was unable to enable Firefox to access my previous profile on the new computer (despite putting the old profile in the appropriate Mozilla Firefox folder. So, there are now two profiles in that location.
After reading the answer to another forum member's question, I attempted to resolve the problem using Profile Manager, but I was unable to locate the Profile Manager. The Windows "Search" feature is not enabled on my new computer (nor can it be enabled from the Customize Start Menu options).]

Thank you for your response, Cor-el.
I had Opera set as my default browser since this began happening. I changed my default browser back to Firefox mainly because having Firefox open one or two seconds every time I open Opera was/is such a nuisance.
I believe this problem began because I attempted to manually transfer the files from my old computer to the new one (via the backed up files in my external drive). I was unfamiliar with Windows 7 when I did this. Microsoft changed the file set up from what I had been used to in Windows XP. I used XP for six years before being exposed to Windows 7 (I never had Vista).
I'm almost sure this problem has something to do with where I placed the application data when I was trying to reestablish the program set up on the new computer.

  • How do you get your old bookmarks back that is gone from firefox upgrade?

Firefox really screwed up with the bookmarks with the new browser. I found another work around besides the other post. You may need the older browser so go to the other link and install the older browser after you uninstalled the new browser. Right now I am using Palemoon browser to post this which is a true 64bit browser and looks like a clone of Firefox. Really impressed with Palemoon so I am going to continue to try it out.
Go here for instructions to restore your old bookmarks. Like I said you may need to reinstall the older Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them?esab=a&s=restore+bookmark+from+backup&r=0&as=s#w_restoring-from-backups
If your bookmarks are on another PC computer go where Firefox keeps a backup of your bookmarks in your pc. In Windows 8 it is located in
    C:\Users\lion\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5eczdook.default\bookmarkbackups
In Windows 7 and XP it is located somewhere in the AppData. Just browse to the AppData folder and find your way to Mozilla
In the Mac it is similar but in the Library I believe. With a Mac just use common sense and Linux basics.
Once you located the bookmarks, look for the file with the date you want. Copy that sucker and paste it in the proper folder on the other computer where you want your bookmarks restored. Then run the Restore and mentioned above.
    Your done!
If you want to check out Palemoon goto http://www.palemoon.org/ ...Palemoon defaults with Duckandgo search engine which is an up and coming search engine that doesn't track you and provides listing that focuses on keywords. I am liking it also.

    Hi gman411,
This forum is for questions about Firefox. Please see the Palemoon forum [http://forum.palemoon.org/]

  • Downgraded from Firefox 5.0 to 4.01 and can't find old search terms now

Because there were so many issues with the compatibility between Firefox 5.0 and Norton and Norton toolbar, I decided to downgrade back to Firefox 4.01.
I saved all of my old settings when I did so. However, now when I go to http://www.google.com/firefox and type in old searches that used to automatically come up when I searched them, they no longer come up. I'm talking my own personal searches, not autocomplete. The same thing happens on Bing, which used to have all of my own personal search history there.
When I click on my web site browsing history on the top toolbar on Firefox, it still has all of my old history, going back over a year. I also still have my old bookmarks and everything else.
So I know my old searches must still be somewhere on here. How do I bring them up/restore them so that they automatically come again when I use search engines?
I'd really appreciate anyone's help. This is really bothering me.

Hi, dmcritchie. I use http://www.google.com/firefox to do searches, not any Firefox or Google search toolbar.
It's confusing to explain, but I explain in much more detail here. I think the person I was explaining it to finally got what I was saying, lol:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/841107
You've got to scroll down a bit in that post to see my posts.
Anyway, I did find that link that you just posted in my many hours of searching to try to solve this problem. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me when I tried it.
I've tried pretty much everything and searched and searched, and so I've resigned myself to the fact that I most likely will not be able to figure out how to get those searches back. I'm ok with that. Thank you so much for your help, anyway!

  • Upgraded to win 7. kept my old files including program files on drive d. need my old bookmarks

during my win 7 custom installation I kept a copy of my old files on the Vista operating system on the D drive. How can I copy my old bookmarks into the new firefox under win 7?

You need to find the old profile folder which is not in programs files.
First make sure that you have set Windows to show hidden files - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial151.html
Search your D drive for a file called places.sqlite, there will be a copy of that file in the old profile folder. Once you have found the old profile folder, you can copy the necessary data files to your current profile folder. For details of how to open your current profile folder, and of the files to copy see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile
