Find/Replace fonts

I have a document that has a contains a font I don't have on my system. Upon opening the document, I'm presented with a screen informing me that this font is missing, and giving me the option to replace it with something similar. When trying to replace the fonts, I get an alert box saying, "Some text was on a locked layer and the font could not be replaced." So I go into the document and maticulously select each piece of text and change it manually. I cannot find any layers that are locked.
After making the changes, I save the file and close it. Then, when I reopen it, I'm still asked to replace a missing font!?! I've gone through every bit of the file and cannot find a single instance in which this "missing" font is used.
Does Illustrator have some slick way of locating the missing font in the document?
(I'm using Illustrator CS5.5)
Thanks.

You can ulock all layers with on comamnd fomr the layers flyout menu >> unlaock all layer. That command only is availabel if you have a layer locked, otherewise you will nto find that available.
Also do a object >> unlock all. This unlocks any individually locked itmes, regardless of the layer they were on.
1000+ layers: never seen a file with so many layers, someone must have spent alot of time on this file.

  • Easiest way to find & replace fonts?

I need to replace a font in my document w/Arial, and I don't know the easiest way to go about it.
For some reason I assumed there was a simple "Find & Replace" method, like in InDesign or Quark, but I can't seem to find it.
I've tried the "Find/Change" > "Character Format" tool, but it doesn't seem to work...Any suggestions?

Use the Paragraph Designer to make the change at the tag level by specifying Arial instead of whatever is in use.
If you have a number of tags, you can select them all in the document and then use a global command in the Para Designer to apply the new font to all selected tags.
If you have a book, once you've got a chapter set up, import the updated formats too all chapters by selecting them in the book file and Importing Formats to them with the edited chapter as your source.

  • Feature Request: Find/Replace fonts

This topic seems to be repeated, abeit in different ways, throughout the forums. I've had my own version of this and am saddened that the only solution is to mess with the APXL file (XML?). I have gone through the entire Keynote file, no luck. But, I do not wish to mess with the APXL file (XML?). Why can't there just be a feature added to do this?? Adobe has this, why not Apple?

    Hello,
Thanks very much for your response and for the Apple Feedback URL.
I am referring to the command-F (inline Find) feature, but requesting that it search within both the HTML content on the page and within the form field contents of any forms on a page. So, if there is a form embedded on the page, it would be nice if command-F has the ability to include that text within the search. Currently, Safari only searches the HTML content of the page and does not search text within form fields on the page.
Sorry if I'm not describing the functionality well. Does this explanation make more sense?

  • Font changes automatically in Lotus Notes & Excel Find/Replace pops up

I am using Win XP SP3 and FF 14.0.1
I recently (last couple of weeks) noticed that, when FF 14.0.1 is running, the font size, color, bold and bullet will change automatically in Lotus Notes. Sometimes the font changes from normal horizontal to all vertical. And these changes can reverse while I watch or continue trying to type.
Also, in Excel 2007, the Find & Replace box will automatically pop up and keep popping up after I close it.
My IT support suspected Malware on my laptop and loaded & ran Malwarebytes on my laptop and it found two items which I removed. But the problem was still there. Next we reinstalled Office 2007 and Lotus Notes 8.5.1 --- still did not solve the problem.
I began my FF troubleshooting by disabling add-ons one-by-one in the reverse order of addition (newest added was disabled first) until I got to the point before which I previously did not have this problem. But this did not find an offending add-on. (I still have these add-ons disabled.)
Next, I went brute force and restarted FF with '''ALL''' add-ons disabled (using the Help option to do so). This did '''NOT''' fix the problem.
Then I happened to find out that the problem went away -- completely -- if FF was NOT running. I have checked / verified this several times --- somehow FF 14.0.1 certainly appears to be the cause. As I recall I only experienced these issues AFTER I updated to FF 14.0.1
I hope a solution can be found -- otherwise I will no longer be able to use FF at work.

Would be great if files could be attached when questions are being created. I exceeded the max allowed characters when I tried to paste my FF troubleshooting info. So, I had to delete many lines. I saved the info in a file, but no way to attach it before the question is posted.

  • Need help in finding a font for a logo

I was looking for help in finding a font for my logo. I'm not a designer at all, so I'm calling on all the fine designers and folks on the Adobe site to help me out. All replies are, of course, appreciated and any suggestions/comments/ideas will be welcome.
I'm designing a logo for my film company. I wanted to keep it simple but not boring either. I put together the first draft of the logo using Photoshop CS3 and used Trajan Pro for the film company words (Panthera Films) and used Futura for the slogan ("Inspiration through Imagination"). While I don't mind the fonts, it's simple but, alas, too boring. I love the panther image but need a dynamic font for "Panthera Films" and a complimenting font for the slogan.
Can anyone recommend a good combination of fonts to replace the Trajan Pro and Futura? As well, I want to give the logo a nice presence without it being too loud, bold or jumping off the page. As well, should the font for "Films" be the same as "Panthera" or can they be different?
The image I attached is something I was thinking to use as a banner on a website.
Any help would be appreciated too with this
    TIA,
    Dale

    Dale,
As I said, I like it too.
You may consider making it a bit heavier, maybe bold, for readability at small sizes.
It is hard to recommend a specific font because it should represent your company and what it stands for. Have you tried typing the name in a word processing application (Worst or something better) and then running through all the font you have? If not, that might give you a few new thoughts about the overall kind of font you feel is the right one. And then it is much easier to recommend something.

  • How do I find/replace italics in a PDF?

I would like to change all the italics in a PDF to a different font so they will be recognized when I convert the PDF to an InDesign file. Right now they're fake italics of an embedded font so when I convert the file they disappear and turn into regular text. I will be changing the fonts after I convert so I don't necessarily have to keep them an italic font, just something different so I'll be able to change them to italics later. I tried a couple sentences and made them Times New Roman instead of Janson Text 55 Roman and when I converted they stayed as Times New Roman and I was able to make them an italic font. Just wondering if there's a way to search the whole PDF and do a mass find/replace instead of scrolling through the whole novel and changing them manually?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    "... find/replace italics ..."
    Ahh, sorry. You don't.
(in context of a word processing like activity).
Doing it manually with the "Edit Text & Images" tool?
Well, that't keep one out of mischief.
    Be well...

  • How can I find a font in a Keynote presentation?

Is there a way to do a "find" for the places that a particular font appears in a set of Keynote slides?
When I opened a Keynote presentation I'd created last year I got a warning that it could not find "MS PGothic" -- which is likely true since I don't use that particular font.  The warning told me that this font was on the 2nd slide but all I see there is the standard TNR font that I use for text blurbs.  I'd like to search for where this random font appears but I could not find a way to include a font-spec in the Edit->Find parameters.
Is there some place where I can see all the fonts in use in a presentation and, more specifically, pinpoint the places were a given font is in use?
This is Keynote on my computer, not the iPad rendition of Keynote.

The Replace Font wasn't useful because the rogue font was not visible and, thus, a change to some other font (even when I picked one that should have been a stand-out) didn't help me locate the bad spot(s).  I did use your suggestion and created a new slide, moving bits onto it from the 'bad' slide until I got that new one to 'break' also.
I eventually narrowed it down to the 'soft' line breaks I'd inserted in some of the text blocks.  For some reason that I can't explain those line-break characters had rendered in that MS PGothic font, which I don't use (and which I had disabled). Once I knew the pattern, it was a fairly simple matter to select the text block (including the line breaks) and reapply the paragraph's font.  And, viola!, the warnings are now gone.

  • Replacing fonts, characters disappear

I have a problem with the fonts.
At my company we are changing postscript fonts (Adobe FontFolio 8) to OpenType (Adobe FontFolio 11), and replacing fonts from indesign, characters disappear (for example, replacing the Helvetica Neue by Helvetica Neue LT Std) and some text boxes are empty. Do you know why it can be?

Yes, I have cheked it. Some text frames are empty. But only if I click "Change all", with "Change" and "Change/Find" it does well.
I have found the text frames are empty only in documents complicated, with many charts and tables.

  • FINDER - Sidebar Font Size

    FINDER - Sidebar Font Size
I'm using Mac OS X v10.5.8 & have been trying to find a way to I increase the font size in the sidebar of FINDER.
Has this actually been fixed or is there a 3rd party app that will allow me to do this much like in mail! but for FINDER!
I've noticed this has been asked many times but never officially answered.
    thank you in Advance.

While those font sizes appear to be fixed, and perhaps there is a way to get into
the system via Terminal or some other super-user access, an easy utility to do so
does not appear to be readily available. If one is available, this feature is under
advertised or a sub-note hidden within.
I'd just been looking into 'Path Finder' by Cocatech, I did not see a reference to
this Sidebar Font size issue; yet did read into their Forums page to note a post
there asking about this situation. Since Path Finder is a retail product and adds
a new user Finder with extra capabilities (30 day demo) license is about $40.
No mention about their adding this; however many other controls are added.
    (A Leopard 10.5 & Snow Leopard 10.6 version, plus older v. Tiger 10.4 appear.)
While their screen casts of features were a bit interesting to watch (in QT .mov)
http://cocoatech.com/screencasts - the specific ability to resize Finder sidebar is
not mentioned; although their custom Path Finder application has more controls.
Note they say their app can 'replace Finder' - so maybe they will offer their own fix.
So, this probably isn't a direct answer to the pending question or a fix.
Since I haven't had much time or access to Snow Leopard, I've no idea
if the newer system version has a control to adjust Finder's Sidebar Font.
    I rarely use the Finder window within the desktop 'finder' and have avoided it;
that isn't something I'd found useful, though something similar has existed in
many Mac OS systems in some form, guise, or other applicable function.
In fact the wider busy finder/folder windows are more distracting than ever
starting in Leopard 10.5; so, that's more wasted screen space to try to ignore.
{Sure, I can say that while realizing the other kinds of access this may provide
    the seasoned user who is already used to tiny words & extra feature functions.}
Not sure if tweaks in tools such as Titanium Software - OnyX may offer any
type of interface customization in this area. This can change a few things,
I've used this application since it was first available, in earlier v. OS X 10.x
while not being all that interested in making a mess of what has worked well.
Perhaps someone with command line or Terminal experience has already
blazed a trail into this jungle, and left some great bread crumbs to follow.
Maybe a nice Script has come from surveying & marking the path...?

  • Replaced font still appearing in missing fonts

    Hi All,
In my FrameMaker template I was missing a font called "Palatino". I changed the font in the template to another font that is available with me.
I changed the font in every Paragraph tag and Character tag in the template. And did Global Update. I double checked everything.
I did it manually in one of the files and imported to the other files.
But in some of the book files, I am still getting the missing font alert for "Palatino". It is a mystry for me, where I am leaving some track of the old font. I am 100% sure the font do not appear in any of the Paragraph tags and Character tags in the template
Is there a way I can search for that font in the book files.
Please let me know. I quick help will be highly appreaciated.
    Regards,
    Com

    Hi,
Font info is also stored here:
Stored table tags or in a deleted table title
In a left/right master page, if your document is single sided and you had deleted the master page of the other side
    Master pages
    Reference pages
    Graphics files
You can also open the MIF file (preferably with MIFBrowse: http://www.grahamwideman.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm or in another text editor) and search for the font name.
Or you can deactivate "Remember missing font names" in the Preferences and then open your file. FrameMaker will permanently replace Palatino with another font. Only if the font is used by a graphics file, FrameMaker will still try to find this font.
    Best regards
    Winfried

  • Graphics Error: Unable to find suitable font!

I am trying to use the program rasmol (that displays molecules), and I get the error:
Graphics Error: Unable to find suitable font!
    I installed rasmol by
    pacman -Sy rasmol
    today for version 2.7.3-2
also did I do a system upgrade today:
    pacman -Suy
the section "Files" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf contains:
           ModulePath   "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
            RgbPath      "/usr/share/X11/rgb"
            FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/misc"
            FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi"
            FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi"
            FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/TTF"

            FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/encodings"
            FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/util"
I have added all directories in /usr/share/fonts to be sure and restarted X.
I tried installing all font packages that I could find, but the error is still the same:
    #pacman -Q | grep font
    font-bh-ttf 1.0.0-2

I removed the fonts.dir and fonts.scale in /usr/share/fonts and /usr/share/fonts/TTF and did mkfontscale and mkfontdir
    to replace them.
restarting X and retrying to run rasmol still gives the same error.
I have tried to search google for the error message but all I could find was the source code that probably produced the message:
    http://www.bernstein-plus-sons.com/soft … c/x11win.c
and some redhat binary file that gives some fonts seemingly along with the error message:
    http://www.bernstein-plus-sons.com/cgi- … smol_16BIT

which might be an indication for which fonts I need.
Could anyone please give me some assistance to get the program working,
perhaps by giving advise on how to install the abovementioned fonts
or anything else that I have failed to do.
I would really appreciate it , thanx

    Hey,
i too get the same error that no suitable fonts could be found. I installed all the fonts mentioned in this thread. My Section "Files" looks like this:
    Section "Files"
    RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb"
    ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/artwiz-fonts"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/speedo"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/cyrillic"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/encodings"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/util
    EndSection
Still the error occurs. Does somebody know how to fix this?
    greetings koelle

  • Replacing Fonts Removed with Font Book

Font Book shows that several fonts that I frequently use, such as Times New Roman, have problems. If I remove them, where do I find replacements--the MS Office install disc, and do I have to reinstall the entire MS Office?

  • Applying Bolds and Italics while doing a Find/Replace on Data Merged content

    Hi,
Wonder if you kind knowledgeable folks can help me with a Find/Replace question.
I am doing a data merge of a book contents into indesign, where my data merge file is a straightforward text csv file which is tab delimited. I have two (almost similar) things I would like to do to specific parts of the text but don't know how to achieve this.
    -  Firstly, I would like to preserve words/sentences with an 'italic' form but this is obviously lost in a csv file.  Is there anyway I can mark these words in order that a find/replace can make this word italics.  Im hoping there is a solution which resembles something like this;
eg.  Book content is "The Word Italic needs to be adjusted".
Original content is amended to be "The Word $Italic$ needs to be adjusted", so that a dollar sign encapsulates the word to be made Italic.
Then I am able to data merge the csv file and somehow do a find/replace of words/sentences which are encapsulated by the dollar sign.  Thus, doing a find/replace of all words/sentences which satisfy this condition and then apply italics to all words between the dollar signs.
    - My other issue is I am using the '|' character in my text to determine the paragraph seperators.  I then do a find/replace after importing the text to replace all instances of '|' to the paragraph seperator (a kind of $ symbol, a representative character from the pop-up menu to the right of the Change To box). This works fine, but I'd like to make the paragraph seperator to be a BOLD format so that it can distinguish better the seperating sections of text.
But this is different from my 'italics' issue above since I am trying to apply a BOLD format to the 'Change to' character, rather than something which exists in my original csv.
Hope I make sense but I'd be happy to provide screenshots etc (when I get home )
    Best Rgds
    L

    two solutions.
for the italic solution, i'd say the OP answered his own question with one exception - don't use dollar symbols, instead use = or another character which isn't reserved by GREP.
the solution i would use for italics would be a GREP search once the merge is complete. have a look at the picture to see what i've done.
    the second solution: GREP styles.
this assumes that the text will have a paragraph style assigned to it. make a character style called BOLD and within that style, the only thing to change is within basic character formats, make the font style bold. could even make the character another colour such as cyan so it is more easily idenfiable.
next, go to the paragraph style options, go to GREP styles and match the following screengrab
the advantage with a GREP style is that once the pipe symbol (|) is replaced, its bold GREP style character formatting is lost; and it means less post processing and no need for a second search of the text - it's all live.

  • How can I find which font is used inside a PNG?

    Hi,
When I started my company, I had a company logo and website designed for me by another company.  This company doesn't exist anymore and all I have left are the source files of my logo and website.  They delivered me the logo in PNG format.  I am trying to make different sizes and shapes of my logo, but when I open the PNG file in Fireworks (CS5), it says that the font is missing, so whether I want to replace the font or keep appearance.  How can I find out which font was used in the original PNG file?  When I select the text, the font selection box is empty, so I cannot see which font was originally used...
    Thx,
    Steven

    Hi Linda,
I tried it and you are right.  I kept trying to preserve the appearance.  Never tried the replace fonts option!
Thank you very much for your help!!
