Find & Search Feature Disabled??

I cant use the find or seach feature to locate any words in a textbook pdf file. I have tried the following: opening directly from source-find or search=no results (I am looking for words I know are in the textbook, like on the first page, I can see them) *saved the file to my hard drive and tried the same=no luck just says none found *updated to current version 8 = tried everything again=again no luck--can they (school) disabled that feature in the file so we cant search for words?? Thanks!

Do you mean to open the select text tool??? I have never had this problem before...i am now running ver 8 - before i just went to the find area or did ctrl+f and it searched just fine...it is not recognizing any of the words in the text i know are there

  • Non-working find/search feature

Neither the Find nor the Search feature works in Adobe reader (the relevant document was downloaded from an online database -- perhaps Academic Search Premier or Ebscot -- I do not recall). A message is returned that word is not found even for a word that I know is in the document. These tools are needed for reviewing documents of hundreds of pages.

If the file is a scanned images of pages, then the words are not really in the pdf file only a picture of the word.

  • My "FIND' (search) Feature Grayed Out

Suddenly, the FIND feature (under EDIT) is grayed out and not working. It was fine last night; not operational this morning. How do I fix this?
    Thanks.

  • How can I delete the Index and Search features in a RoboHelp 9 project?

I have a RoboHelp 9 project in which the user does not want the Index. The only way I could delete it was to click on the Delete button for each entry until the Index was blank. So that worked. Only problem is that it created a mess of the Search feature. There are now numbers and letters in Search that link to topics. We want the Search feature disabled. Any suggestions?

    Hi there
    What is your output type?
If it's WebHelp, look at the Single Source Layout properties. In the properties you will find an area with check boxes that allow you to turn off Index, Search, Glossary, Etc.
Click the area on the left that is labeled Navigation and just clear the check marks from what you wish to turn off.
    Cheers... Rick

  • The search feature in Add Places cannot find any locations.

When I try to add places, the search feature cannot find any locations. I can, however, drag and drop photos onto locations on the map. I've tried contacted support twice and they have not been helpful at all. I would appreciate any help.

You installed a search plugin. Why not look for it the search bar?

  • Are there any more advanced search features for "ctrl+f" (find in page)?

I'm very limited by the current test search features. And I'd like to see some advanced features like:
    1) I HATE that the find bar disappears all the time. I would like it to be visible all the time -- not disappear when I change tabs, or open a new tab.
    2) I HATE that the toolbar is on the bottom and not the top. All my work is done around the top of the window and when I need to enter a something in the find box I have to go to the bottom... very inefficient.
    3) I would like to search for multiple words at the same time. Currently if there's multiple words that I'm searching for in multiple tabs, I have to type in each word individually for each tab. I'm in the process of searching for five word in 20+ tabs... you do the math. Even if I could enter: oneword OR twoword OR threeword OR fourword OR fiveword... this would be very helpful.
    4) The nicest feature of all would be: the ability to highlight multiple links in a webpage and then get firefox-addon to search all the links for any of, and all of, the requested words (ie. oneword, twoword, threeword, etc) This would save me hours and hours of keying in words. AND please note: searching a specific site with google site does not work in most cases as it is not specific enough or Google is for some reason not able to search the site (the site must somehow be search while hidden from the user and then opened in a tab if there are any results -- and I would like the results highlighted).
I have been wanting this for years and am very surprised that nothing like this has been developed... maybe it's not possible to do? (But I doubt is, as I've see greasemonkey scripts that have done similar things...)

One of the problems with finding an addon like this is that I wasn't using the correct search term. I found that if I use "findbar", there are several results. Currently I'm trying out Findbar Tweak. It seems to have a few good options -- that are similar to my wishlist above. But right now I'm finding also that some of the options cause problems, some of which almost freeze Firefox... hopefully the developer will be able to improve a few of these things -- a new version hasn't been released for nearly a year. :(

  • Mavericks Spotlight is Horrible -- I have to use my Windows 7 PC to find files that my MacAir with Mavericks cannot find -- what has happened to the famous Mac search feature?  It is almost useless!

Why does Mavericks Spotlight not find files named, for example, Ono et al 2009, PNAS, 106(35), 14745-14750 - annotated when I use Ono as the search word.  I can find the file using the search feature on my Windows 7 PC.  Is there a way to change the perferences in Spotlight so it finds all file names if one searchers on a word in the file name?  When I enter Ono in the Spotlight search box I get OnOff Switch slider, a list of files in which the Ono paper is referenced, and a Ono Yoko!  But it does not find the 6 or so PDF files on the Computer with Ono and the primary author in the file name!  Spotlight is almost useless.

    First try to re-index Spotlight

  • The search feature in Yosemite only finds a few files when I know many more exist. Is there a fix for this problem?

The search feature in Yosemite only finds a few files when I know many more exist. Is there a fix for this problem?

Are you searching for file names or content?  If it's the latter dDownload and run Find Any File to search for the same file names.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there are files with those file names on the hard drive FAF will find them.
In any case reindex the HD for Spotlight according to this Apple document: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple Support

  • Can i disable the Search feature in Reader?

I need to disable the Search feature to have more control when administering a students test.  Can this be done?

Why do you want to disable search? If you want to cripple the pdf and do not care how it looks, you can use Photoshop to rasterize the pdf (it will be huge in size) or use Illustrator to outline the text (but the text will have issues). I cannot fathom disabling search. Even if outlined or rasterized there are tool to allow people to use OCR to put the text back in.

  • Search feature on Preview disabled after annotating

Running Preview 7.0, upon opening a PDF I am able to perfectly use the built-in search feature to search text made readable by OCR. After adding a text-box/annotating within the document, however, the search feature is messed up: the document will return matching hits for my term, but they aren't highlighted within the document body and I get the "funk" alert noise when clicking on results in left-hand results column.
Attempted fix: Printed the document as PDF.  Searching this document only will return results if text that I search was typed in one of the text boxes I added.

  • Outlook Search Feature

Might have been asked before but here goes. We have windows 7 sessions running on terminal service sessions using Outlook 2010 and exchange 2010 - this might be an a known issue but the search option will not search pst's users might have configured?
Using the advanced find - Ctrl-shift-F does however work? - Is this a known issue? Playing with the indexing and user profiles appears to have no effect. Plus the search all and sub folders also has no effect.
Any help appreciated Gary H Devon

    Hi Gary,
Using an Exchange account in Outlook, normally, you should have .ost file as your data file. Could you please let me know what you mean by "will not search pst's users might have configured"?
Also, how many clients are affected by this? Are you in Cached Exchange Mode or Online Mode?
"Playing with the indexing and user profiles appears to have no effect" - I'm not quite sure what exactly you've tried, generally, to troubleshoot instant search issues, you can follow below steps:
Check if the pst-file or mailbox has been marked to be indexed: File-> Options-> section Search-> button Indexing Options…-> button Modify-> expand Microsoft Outlook
Disable and then re-enable the file for indexing
    Rebuild the index
    Check for pst-file corruptions with
    scanpst.exe tool.
Reinstall the Windows Search feature. If you are in Cached Exchange Mode, the instant search feature actually uses Windows Search feature. If it got damaged, you'll have search issues in Outlook.
Please try any steps that you haven't tried before in the list, and feel free to post back with any findings.

Okay, i have 2 bugs with maverick.  First, when I delete a file within a window, the files deletes but the preview doesn't delete until I close the window and reopen it.  Second, I work on a network of computers and the search feature is now buggy...  When I search for a file, A) it asks me if it's a name, or it wont produce anything, and B), its slower than in prior OS versions and in some instances I have to toggle to a different directory and go back to my original directory in the search: menu bar or the search wont produce anything...  Very buggy.

It appears to me that network file access is buggy in Maverick.
In my case I have a USB Drive attached to airport extreme (new model) and when I open folders on that drive they all appear empty. If I right click and I select get info after a few minutes! I get a list of the content.
It makes impossible navigate a directory tree.
File access has been trashed in Maverick.
They have improved (read broken) Finder. I need to manage a way to downgrade to Lion again.

  • Possible to code a Find/Find Next feature for use inside a Table Control

    Hello,
I have a Table Control that displays many lines.  Is it possible to code a Find/Find Next feature that would allow the user to enter a 'keyword' then search each line of the Table Control for existing matches?
I have provided the user with various Selection Criteria that will filter the table control results, but there are still too many lines to visually scan for the desired result.
I am guessing that I would place an input box and a 'Find' button onto my layout screen. Then in user command, I have to scroll through each line of the table control and check every value to see if the string contains 'keyword' When found, stop  and display table control assigning current line as Top line?
Am I on the right track or is there a better solution already?
    Kind Regards,
    MPersson

I've done that. It works pretty well. You might want to allow the user to search only in selected column(s) as well.
