Find sqlite database - getResource()...?

Hi,
I have just created a program that connects to an offline sqlite database. I then created a jar file and from this created a exe file. The program works fine and connects to the database, but it will only connect to the database when the database (Test.db) is in a certain folder. This is my current code.
try {       Class.forName("SQLite.JDBCDriver");       con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sqlite:/Test.db"); }
I was wondering if there was some code I could use in my program that would allow the database to be accessed from any folder such as something like getClass().getResource("Test.db")? I have tried to implement this but couldn't get the database connnect. This is the code I used.
try {       Class.forName("SQLite.JDBCDriver");       URL loc = EngineerApp.class.getResource("Test.db");       String location = loc.toString().substring(4);       String connection = "jdbc:sqlite:/" + location;       con = DriverManager.getConnection(connection); }
Or is it possible to add the Test.db to the jars Manifest classpath?
I am only new to java and databases so please excuse me if these sound like silly questions but I would appreciate if anyone could help me with it.

• How to determine the connection string to a SQLite database, in C# code

Hello. I'm trying to figure out how to specify the connection string to a SQLite database, I would like to access using the following code:
string connectionString = null;
SqlConnection connection;
SqlCommand command;
SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter();
DataSet ds1 = new DataSet();
string sql = "SELECT DataName, Data, Id, UserId, DateLastUpdated FROM MainTable";
connectionString = "Data Source=C:\\SQLITEDATABASES\\SQLITEDB1.sqlite;Version=3;";
connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
try
connection.Open();
command = new SqlCommand(sql, connection);
catch
The value I assigned to the variable connectionString, in the code above, I obtained somewhere from the Internet. It does not work. I'm using Visual Studio 2013, against the file sqlite-netFx451-setup-bundle-x86-2013-1.0.96.0.exe, which
I installed, and got from
here.
My application's App.config file looks as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
<configSections>
</configSections>
<connectionStrings>
<add name="DC_Password_Saver.Properties.Settings.DC_Password_SaverConnectionString" connectionString="data source="C:\Users\patmo_000\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\DC Password Saver\DC Password Saver\DC Password Saver.db"" providerName="System.Data.SQLite.EF6"/>
</connectionStrings>
<startup>
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.5.1"/>
</startup>
</configuration>
I tried to use the value assigned to connectionString in the XML settings above, replacing single backslash characters with double backslash characters, because the Visual Studio editor flagged them as unrecognizable, and wound up with the
following.
SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter();
DataSet ds1 = new DataSet();
string sql = "SELECT DataName, Data, Id, UserId, DateLastUpdated FROM MainTable";
connectionString = "data source="C:\\Users\\patmo_000\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2013\\Projects\\DC Password Saver\\DC Password Saver\\DC Password Saver.db"";
connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
The above code however does not work either. So again, does anyone know how I can specify in C# code, a connection string to access my SQLite database? Thanks in advance for your reply.

What does SQLite connection strings has to do with WPF?
You will find some valid connection strings here:
https://www.connectionstrings.com/sqlite/
But you cannot use the SqlConnection class to connect to a SQLite database. You will need to download and add a reference to the System.Data.SQLite library and then use the SQLiteConnection class:
connection = new System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteConnection(connectionString);
try
connection.Open();
command = new System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteCommand(sql, connection);
catch
Please refer to the following article for more information and an example of how to connect and read and write data from an SQLite database using C#:
http://blog.tigrangasparian.com/2012/02/09/getting-started-with-sqlite-in-c-part-one/.
There is contains a link where you can download the required assemblies.
Hope that helps.

• [SOLVED] PowerDNS (pdns) - SQLite database '...' does not exist yet

PowerDNS 3.2-5 is having some issues connecting to my backend database (sqlite3).
beta powerdns # tail /var/log/errors.log
May 7 20:12:41 localhost pdns[19098]: Caught an exception instantiating a backend: Unable to launch gsqlite3 connection: SQLite database '/etc/powerdns/database.sqlite' does not exist yet
But when i do:
beta powerdns # sqlite3 /etc/powerdns/database.sqlite
SQLite version 3.7.16.2 2013-04-12 11:52:43
Enter ".help" for instructions
Enter SQL statements terminated with a ";"
sqlite> select * from domains;
1|<myhostname>|||NATIVE||
sqlite>
sqlite3 It fetches the records and domains to my liking but not PowerDNS.
Same thing goes for a blank db without any domains or records, i can query it but not PowerDNS.
Followed this guide in order to setup the proper tables and columns: http://doc.powerdns.com/html/gsqlite.html#idp9379264
(without the DNSSEC part, i'll give that a go later on)
It obviously loads the sqlite3 module, and tries to connect to the backend, which doesn't work, so the ArchLinux package is fine i'm guessing.
More info:
* Link to package: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … 6_64/pdns/
* chmod == 777
* chown == nobody:nobody (and tried root:root as default)
* running as root (not pdns)
Last edited by Torxed (2013-05-08 10:52:05)

Solved it.
The guides are vague in this regard but once you've just read the config twice you'll understand the logic.
First of all, no absolute paths for sqlite3, it should be:
launch=gsqlite3
gsqlite3-database=database.sqlite
Secondly, find your chroot, and point it to your database location or put your database here (whichever):
chroot=/var/empty
The folder structure should be:
/var/empty/database.sqlite
And this py pointing to ./database.sqlite when starting sqlite3 in pdns, it should be able to lock on to the database.
Peachy!

• SQLite Database and TLF Text in Flash CS5

I encountered the following problem when working with the built-in sqlite database and using TLF TextFields in Flash CS5
When I tried to use TLF TextFields alone, I don't face any probelem,
but when I start using a database connectivity code, the TLF TextFields placed on the stage are not shown, but instead, the SWF file is showing the built-in preloader with five dots looping.
I tried changing the default Linkage in ActionScript 3 Settings to Merge Mode, but in this case nothing is shown, not the textfields, neither the preloader.
I think the problem is related to loading the TLF Text Engine, but I couldn't figure out what to do.
The following is my code placed in first frame:
==========================================
import flash.data.SQLConnection;
import flash.events.SQLErrorEvent;
import flash.events.SQLEvent;
import flash.filesystem.File;
var conn:SQLConnection = new SQLConnection();
conn.addEventListener(SQLEvent.OPEN, openHandler);
conn.addEventListener(SQLErrorEvent.ERROR, errorHandler);
// The database file is in the application directory
var folder:File = File.applicationDirectory;
var dbFile:File = folder.resolvePath("DBSample.db");
conn.openAsync(dbFile);
function openHandler(event:SQLEvent):void
trace("the database was created successfully");
function errorHandler(event:SQLErrorEvent):void
trace("Error message:", event.error.message);
trace("Details:", event.error.details);
stop();
==========================================
and I am using one TLF TextField on the stage for later use.
Publish Settings>> Player: AIR 2.6
and not to forget, when I test the file using Contol Panel >> Test in Air Debug Launcher (Desktop), the file is working correctly.
but when I open the generated SWF file, the problem appears.
I hope that I find some help
Thanks.

• Insert SQLite database into a phone app

Would like to use a sqlite database in my android/ios phone app how would I be able to implement this into my project?

Thank you for your response. Anouther question is now that i have the database in the app and running, how would i call the database to get specific information. Example: I have a database which consists of students name on the columns and on the rows i have homerooms, the apps purpose is to find the students id number by matching the rows and columns to get the student id number.
Also there are multiple dataabases, for the different schools. that would need to accesed locally on the phone.
How would i acomplish this using dreamweaver. Please see example below
Screen one would ask for School name which you would pick
Screen two would ask for the homeroom
Screen three would ask for students name
Screen Four would tell you there ID number
Thank you for your great answers and quick responses

• Phonegap, iPhone and SQLite database

Hi there,
I'm trying to develop my first iPhone app using Phonegap and SQLite database. My app is simple but don't know how to get started. My app has 2 dropdown list. When the user selects one of them the other dropdown list will reset. Then user will click on Submit button and I want to search the database and display the result.
I've never used the SQLite database and I would like to know in which folder should I keep the database file. The database file is small and will be stored on the device. The database is already populated. User will not add,edit or delete data but only search based on what value was selected using dropdown list.
Can someone tell me how to do this using JavaScript.
Thanks,
Joe Green

PhoneGap is something that cross-platform developers use to avoid the native frameworks. The people on this forum are more familiar with the native frameworks. You would have to find a PhoneGap forum to ask about that product.

• Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.

Why can't Microsoft make software that "Just Works" any more.
This is Sooooo frustrating! I'm a developer. I want to write database software and I'd like to use SQL Server. But I can't even get the damn thing to install on a fresh Windows 8.1 installation.
MySQL - installs no problem - it just works.
Oracle - Installs no problem - It just works.
I downloaded SQL Server 2012 Express with SP1, ran the Install, took most of the defaults, and I get:
Install Failed:
The following error has occurred:
Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.
For help, click:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&ProdVer=11.0.3128.0&EvtType=0xD15B4EB2%25400x4BDAF9BA%25401306%254025
Of course, clicking on the link takes me to a non existing web page - what else? Just incompetence everywhere. This is Microsoft's own operating system yet they can't even get their own database to install while their competitors can.
How can they let this happen!
Then I googled the above error message. - Hundreds of hits and a lot of them are threads in forums and lots of civilians saying "try this try that" none of which works. Not a single Microsoft Employee to be found in any of the
discussions or answers. And this same problem has been happening since 2008! Yet Microsoft can't be bothered to fix it.
This kind of buggy software shouldn't have made it past Alpha testing.
Come on Microsoft, you just have to try harder. I can understand bugs that happen in unusual circumstances, after all I'm a developer too. But this won't even install on a clean Windows 8. It's tantamount to releasing a "Hello
World" program that crashes on startup!

Hi Bob,
If you make sure all your hardware and software requirements are met for installation of SQL Server 2012 on window 8.1 Its highly unlikely you will face issue.I can understand your situation so let me help you.As Kalman pointed can you paste output
of setup log file which was generated due to failed installation using Kalman's link.
Did you went thorugh below link
How to install SQL server on Win 8.1
Hardware and software requirements for SQL Server 2012
Please first read above links understand how it works and then proceed
Regarding startup handle error .AFAIK its because of Account with which you are trying to install SQL server somehow is not able to start it up after installation.Basically a righst issue.Can be different in some cases.Now whenever you install SQL server
alsway RK on Setup file and select run as administrator.When you reach page window where you need to select startup account for SQL Server please select NT Authority\System( or local system account) .

Chidu,
The result set that you get back is a JDBC ResultSet, not a "JATO" resultset. In ND, everything was wrapped in a "spider" data
structure, and therefore, difficult to get to the underlying datastructure, in many cases. In some case ND made it easier to do
certain things, and in other ways, made it more difficult or impossible(like seeing the SQL for an insert, update, delete).
>
Anyway, looking at the java.sql package, you can do this.
java.sql.ResultSet rs = <jata-model>.getResultSet();
java.sql.ResultSetMetaData rsMeta = rs.getMetaData();
// not sure if this is what you need, but it was the closest thing I couldfind
int colSize = rsMeta.getColumnDisplaySize(int column);
There are numerous other methods in the ResultSetMetaData interface thatmay be of use as well.

The type of the image columns should be BLOB. And make sure that you are looking at the inkCanvas_DB.db in the output folder of your .exe ([your_project_foder]/bin/Debug or [your_project_foder]/bin/Debug) because it is this database that the data gets written
to unless you specify an absolute path in the connection string:
string stConn = @"Data Source=C:\Your_Project_Folder\inkCanvas_DB.db;Version=3";
Please upload a reproducable sample of your issue to OneDrive and post the link to it here for further help.

• SQL Server Express 2014 on Win8.1: Could not find the Database Engine startup handle

Hello,
I tried to follow all the similarly titled posts in this forum, yet no solution seems to work, so I hope I can find some up-to-date suggestion here (most of the older posts refer to versions from 2008 to 2012...).
I have installed Visual Studio 2013 (with the latest Update 2 RC) on a freshly installed development workstation with Win 8.1 with all its updates. Now I'd want to install SQL Server 2014 Express, but the setup keeps failing with the dreaded "Could
not find the Database Engine startup handle" error (the log follows below).
What I tried:
1) download again and repair. Same error.
2) completely uninstall by launching setup.exe /Action=uninstall (success), then rebooting the OS, then installing again. Same error. I did this twice, the second time I also manually removed any directory left out in C:\Program Files etc.
When I launch the setup, I select all the components for installation in the package SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe (1.12 GB, last downloaded today -Apr 3, 2014-), and accept all the defaults including the proposed services accounts. There is no preexisting
SQL Server instance, as expected.
The setup takes its time, and finally fails with the error quoted above. I really do not want to reformat my HD and fully reconfigure my workstation, which took about 3 days... Could anyone suggest a solution to have SQL Server 2014 setup so I can start
developing instead of wasting time in administering the system?
Thanks to all! The log follows.

Thank you, it worked! I suppose that it was really your nr.3 which made the difference. I changed NT Service\MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS to NT AUTHORITY\System for the Data service. I'll then change it again as suggested (any suggestion about a "standard"
account to be used here?), even if this is a development workstation using SQL Server Express only as a local database for debugging, so security is not really a big concern.
Thanks for the feedback.Ya I know No3 was real step but just added more info so as to rule out any other possibility.
No not as such, you wont believe,quite few pf my clients I have worked for keep it with local system and they have not complained yet ,they are afraid to change account as few of them faced issue SQL Server not coming online due to logon failure( after changing
startup account to some domain a and that was happening due to some AD policy.But if you have nay plans to move Critical database in production which would be act as Database to some Internet facing application please follow my suggestion
of running SQL Server with Least privileged domain account.

• Issue when installing SQL Server Express 2012 - "The requested control is not valid for this service" + "Could not find the database engine startup handle"

Good morning,
I'm experiencing the following issue when installing Microsoft SQL Server Express 2012 (with tools, SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe) on the laptop of my company;
Installation goes plain until around the end of the progress bar, it stops on the setup of
SqlEngineDBStartConfigAction_install_configrc_Cpu32
giving 7-8 times, even pressing "Cancel", the message "The requested control is not valid for this service";
After this, I receive one last message ""Could not find the database engine startup handle", then installation ends with failures, in particular the Database Engine and the Server Replication failed to be installed.
I've put in my SkyDrive the error log I received after the install;
I'm at full disposal if you need further information,
thank you in advance
Best regards
Francesco

Well, i just ran into this issue and the problem was lack of admin rights. It was my company's laptop so got the setup initiated by my company's IT team with admin rights. However, the upon completion of setup, i go the same error messages as stated above:
SqlEngineDBStartConfigAction_install_configrc_Cpu32
giving 7-8 times, even pressing "Cancel", the message "The requested control is not valid for this service";
After this, I receive one last message ""Could not find the database engine startup handle", then installation ends with failures, in particular the Database Engine and the Server Replication failed to be installed.
Also, if you open SQL Server Configuration, the status of the service is "Change Pending" and you would not be able to set the startup login type to Local Service/System/Network.
Then, I just got my account added as Local Admin and then tried to start the service and was able to.
However, I am not sure whether same was the case for you.
Please mark the answer as helpful if i have answered your query. Thanks and Regards, Kartar Rana

• SQLITE database has no tables on device?

Hello -
When I try to run my app on my iPhone, the sqlite database is found, etc., HOWEVER, when I query it, it says the table doesn't exist. In fact none of the tables do.
Do I have to do something special to get the database and its tables over to the phone itself?
Thanks

Is the database that's part of the application bundle populated, or is it only the database that was created in the simulators Documents folder that is populated?

• Is it possible to to use SQlite database as an External Content type?

Hi guys,
I need some help in accessing data from an external database(SQlite) and use it in sharepoint 2010. I have a list in sharepoint 2010 but some of the fields must come from SQlite database. Whenever the list is updated, the corresponding
fields from SQlite database should also be updated.
I've been looking on some examples on using external content types but I've only encountered examples using SQL server. I'm new to sharepoint 2010 and I have little idea to get this done. Can someone kindly assist me on this?
Thank you very much.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
SharePoint is designed to use Business Connectivity Services when talking to external data sources.
The Microsoft Business Connectivity Services (BCS) can connect to external data from the following types of databases:
Microsoft SQL Server
Oracle
OLE DB
ODBC
So you may connect to SQLite through ODBC. Take a look at this example how to connect to MySQL through ODBC
Connecting MySQL using BCS. You may create an External Content Type for SQLite the same way.
