  • Sometimes cannot find wireless networks??

i've looked around on a couple messege boards, but they didn't seem to be exactly the same problem i was having.
essentially, after waking up from sleep or hibernate, i sometimes cannot find wireless networks.  the wireless switch will be on, Fn + F5 says my wireless is on, yet nothing can be found.  strangely, when i try to turn off wireless, whether it's through Fn +F5, or the hardware switch, the light below the monitor remains ON.  basically, i can't even turn it off.  when i do click the button to try and turn off wireless, it gives me the busy cursor and eventually the whole menu disappears.
the way to fix this is by restarting.
just today, however, i suffered this same problem, even though i wasn't coming back from sleep or hibernate - it just lost connection randomly and then couldn't find any networks.  attempts to turn off wireless failed.
is there a solution?  is this actually the same problem that was remedied by changing a power setting?
    thanks in advance.

Yeah I'm having this problem too, with my antique T41 running XP. It used to be rock solid it seemed to change when I installed XP SP3.
I have tried reinstalling the Intel drivers but that hasn't helped. It seems when it restarts after hibernate (and occasionally at other times, as with the previous poster) it somehow doesn't lock on to the signal or it gets confused in the protocol or something. It doesn't always happen though - about one in three.  Rebooting cures it...until the next time....
any assistance / ideas most welcome, thanks.
PS I'm using Windows Zero Configuration not Access Connections. That was a change some years ago that made it work better so I'm inclined to stick with that unless someone can tell me why not....

  • Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update

I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
    Thanks.

    Hi  GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

  • AC 6.01 Message: Find wireless Network is disabled. Contact your network administrator

hi, i cant manage wireless networks with AC 6.01.  Profile "Create" is greyed out and I am not able to create new profiles, can't find new wireless network etc. Few weeks ago, everything was working fine. When I try  Fn+F5 and click "Find Wireless Netowork" I got message "Find wireless Network is disabled. Contact your network administrator". I am administrator on computer.
What i found interesting is that if i stop the service "AcPrfMgrSvc" from services.msc, i can find networks but then i cant use AC profiles i.e. cant create profiles and cant connect to any saved profile. This problem gave me real headache. This might be a problem due to any windows update.
I m using Windows 7 on Thinkpad E520. Please helppppp....

I don't think this is a Windows update problem.  I encountered this same problem
immediately after I allowed Lenovo to update my laptop a month or so ago.  (I have
always refused to allow Lenovo to update my system since I didn't trust them -
apparently with good reason - but I finally said OK.  (My Windows 7 OS has not been
updated since Nov. 2012.)  Lenovo has been no help in fixing the problem they
created (which has put Lenovo at the bottom of my list for future systems - see below.)
I have not tried disabling "AcPrfMgrSvc", I am only commenting on not being able
to Find Wireless Networks.  I have read posts/comments in various places saying
to revert to a previous "version" of something (I don't remember what - AC?), but
have found nothing that explicitly states how to do that - as if it should be obvious.
Not helpful either.  Documenting that would be the least Lenovo itself could do.  (I
did try reverting to a full system backup I had made the day before, but I found I could
not do that without having a system disk that Lenovo said would cost $50 - which also
means NONE of the backups I have done over the last year and a half have any
    value?)
So I have pretty much stopped using my two recent Lenovo systems and gone back
to my 9-year old Linux system.

  • HP LaserJet M1120 MFP will not print on wireless network with Windows 8.1 operating system

The printer worked on the wireless network with Windows 8.
I have been advised that it does not work with windows 8.1 because a driver is required. However this is not available to download.
It is ridiculous that by having the latest operating system I am unable to use the HP printer on the wireless network
When will HP have the driver to download?

    Check the support site here.

  • Takes a long time to find wireless network

So for the past few months my (Santa Rosa) MBP will take an extremely long time to find a wireless network. This happens both at home and other places where I have connected in the past and am wanting to use a remembered network. It can take as long as two and a half minutes to connect. If I click on the airport icon in the menu bar, then it says it's scanning for networks during this time.
Usually if I create a new location then the problem will go away but then seems to come back. The problem also persists if I use a different user.
I've repaired permissions, done a disk repair and even used Diskwarrior. I miss instantly finding wireless networks. It's a small inconvenience, granted but was hoping to get this fixed once and for all.
Anyone have any suggestions of things to try? Thanks all.

My computer also has been taking a long time to find a wireless network, up to several minutes. I often have to have it "scan" for networks several times before it finally picks it up. Is there a solution? This has been going on for many months. Other computers (PCs, iPhone) pick up the signals within a few seconds, but my Powerbook takes several minutes, even over 5 minutes sometimes.
See how many networks are listed in Sys Prefs: Network: Advance. Drag the preferred to the top. Delete any you don't really need.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • JournE Air 801 Not Finding Wireless Networks

My Air 801 was able to see my wireless networks when I first switched it on. I was having difficulty in getting WPA2 security to work so I reset the 801 to factory defaults using the reset hardware button on the device.
Now I am unable to find any wireless networks.
Any ideas how I can get my 801 to find wireless networks again?
    Thanks for your help/advice.

    Hi
Are you sure the Wifi is enabled in the settings of Air 801?
Usually the WLan icon should be visible in the left upper corner if the WLan has been enabled.
I downloaded the user manual for Air 801 (Toshiba European page -> Support and download -> user manual). On the page 42 you can find all the details about networking.
You can use the Wifi protected setup. This is the easiest way to connect to the network.
    - Select Wifi protected setup and press OK
    - press the wps button on your wlan router and then press ok to continue
    - press exit to return to the previous page.
Then use the Wifi wizard to detect and to connect to WLan router in your area.
    - select wifi wizard
    - press up and down to select your preferred router
    - press OK to confirm your selection
    - enter the password for e secured router
You can also use the advanced configuration
For this check the user manual!

  • HT1695 Ipad will not find wireless networks that it used yesterday, but MacBook Pro still finds and uses these networks.

Our ipad will not find wireless networks that it used yesterday.   Our Mac Book Pro finds them and uses them.
we have reset the cable modem and wireless router, turned off the ipad and turned it back on.   Turned wireless off and back on.
but it just spins trying to find networks but finds none.
    What do do next?

Settings for wireless network connections are actually stored in two separate places on your Mac, so in addition to the correct advice offered by Jolly Giant, you will also need to delete old network listings in KeyChain Access.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Locate the name of the wireless network that you want to delete and click it to highlight it
    Click Delete on your keyboard
It would be a good idea to go ahead and also delete the current connection as well in case it has become corrupted. This will clear out the old settings and when you next connect to the network and enter the password, the new settings will be preserved.

Hm, I can't remember how I did this but I think that I removed instalation from add/remove programs. Also find the folder where are the files, there you also you may find exe file which will remove all instalation. My is in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities. KillAC.exe is file that you may need.
After this, go to support and download pages and from there you should download and install newest version.
    Should solve the problem.

  • Windows Can't Find Wireless Network upon Restart

    Hello,
I am running Windows XP and have a wireless network set up via a Linksys BEFW11S4. Everytime I restart my computer, the windows wireless client cannot find my network.
I've found that the work around is to unplug for 10 seconds, then plug back in-which usually then allows my laptop to find the network. (I've also used the EasyLink software which arrives at thsi same result).
My question is what do I need to change in order to not have to continually be unplugging and replugging back in my routher.
    Thanks!

Try few settings on the router ....
Change the channel on the from 6 to 11 ....
    Under advance wireless settings ....
    Beacon Interval - 75....
    DTIM - 2....
    RTS & Fragmentation Threshold - 2306 ....
Change the network name SSID ....Also change the wireless security key ....
See if is shows connected after reboot ....

  • Setting up a wireless network with windows XP PC

I may be getting a mac computer later this year & would like to know how to set up a wireless network between the mac & a windows XP PC. The PC has a DSL modem attached to it with a yellow line going from modem to PC & another Grey line going from the modem to the back of a phone in our kitchen. Our house is fairly big, it is one story but the rooms are sprawled out with a lot of clutter. I would like to have reliable internet access on my mac, & if it is a macbook pro I would like to be able to get to the internet throughout the house. The most important thing is stable reliable internet access as I am taking online classes. I would probably take the macbook pro into a bedroom or other adjacent room. The bedroom is further away, through 2 or 3 walls. The Adjacent rooms is one wall way.
I know this seems very basic, but I need a lot of help with this as I have never used a mac before (have been a windows user) & have never used more than just the one PC in the house, let alone a wireless network.
my mother along with I are both taking online classes, so sometimes there is competition for the the 1 computer & with my graphic design degree a mac has been recommended to me. So we are finding it would be easier to have more than one computer in the house so we can access our classes anytime.
So anyone, can this be done without breaking the bank?

I'm guessing that Modem was provided by your Internet Service Provider ?
They are the best people to talk to about upgrading that Modem to a Wireless one.
Usually if you're running a modem and phone from the same DSL line there's a small splitter box that plugs into the phone socket and then one wire connects your modem and another your phone. Picture below - if you do have one of these then post back and we can give better advice on a wireless modem to replace your current one.

  • No wireless network on Windows 7 boot camp!

    Hey fellow Mac users!
I'm having a problem that has been bothering me for the last two days... Once I partitioned my hard drive, and installed Windows 7 on one part, there's no wireless internet connection. I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers. Yet, if I unplug the ethernet cabel (which Windows 7 Troubleshooter told me too) there's no internet connection, and I can't connect to a wireless network, while on Windows 7 (it works great in Mac OS X).
BUT.. I have a clue what the problem might be (or at least whats causing it). If I go into Computer->Properties->Device Manager in Windows, I see that I have a yellow warning sign on the Network Controller, under Other devices.
But if I click the Update driver button, it says that Windows couldn't find any new driver software for this device?? Please help me .

    Mr Tech,
I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers

  • Unable to find wireless network on Photosmart C4780 on MacBook Pro running OS X 10.10.3

I have been successfully using a Photosmart C4780 on my wireless network for a long time.  I had internet issues and the network name was changed.   Now I can't print wirelessly.  Tried reinstalling the software, but the program quits just before set-up.
    Help!!

    Hey there @physiocan!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I should be able to provide some suggestions that may get your Photosmart C4780 reconnected to your wireless network.  Due to the age of the printer there is no full feature software and driver developed for Mac 10.10.  Your printer requires the HP full feature software to setup the wireless through the USB cable.  Once the Wi-Fi is setup then the USB cable can be removed.  To reconfigure your printer to the new network name you will require a computer running the Windows operating system or a Mac with version 10.7 or lower.
Please post back and let me know!  You will only require another computer for the Wi-Fi setup.  Once the wireless is setup then you should be able to add it to your Mac 10.10 using the Apple Airprint drivers built into the Mac operating system.
Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums!
