Finder - Address Bar

Being used to Windows, I miss having an address bar in Finder. I appreciate the View...Show Path Bar option, but I'd like to be able to type a path and have it pre-fill my options (a little Unix-like). If not that, I'd at least like to be able to copy the path so I could paste it into an email.
Am I missing something?

I"m using FilePathCM. It put a contextual menu item in your menu on a right click that cpoies the path.

    Can't find address bar

I am not sure what an address bar is, but if you mean the place you type http etc and it is not visible you should do this. Click on view at the top of your screen, then click on toolbars in the drop down menu. If the Navigation toolbar does not have a check mark beside it, then click on that and the navigation should return.

One thing that you can try is installing a 'fresh' version of OS X Lion. Boot into your Recovery partition (holding down the command and R keys whilst booting) and elect to install OS X from the Recovery screen. You need not erase your hard drive and you should not lose any of your data.
Oh, and just as a precaution, I would use Disk Utility, once you're in Recovery mode, to verify your hard drive before trying to install the OS again.

  • Everytime I search something in the firefox address bar for it to automatically find the site, I am redirected to a place called Sitelutions instead of my page.

Basically, every time I enter a search into the address bar (like "google" or "facebook" with out the .com extension) I get redirected to a page which seems to be owned by Sitelutions telling me:
"The website google{hpfromuri} is (or was) utilizing the Sitelutions Redirection Engine. Unfortunately, the URL has been entered incorrectly, or the site has been deleted by its owner. Below are some of our other services and features that we offer."
    (heres the URL) http://domainpark.sitelutions.com/redir_not_found/redir_not_found.shtml?google{hpfromuri}
Normally it will go to the page directly. I am thinking it could possibly be some kind of Trojan or some spyware may have crept its way on to my computer and is causing this, but my virus software is not picking it up (Avast! and Malware Bytes).
    Any suggestions?

Could be caused by Malware, or even a Rootkit virus, but re-directs caused by either of those usually affect pages loaded from a Search webpage - not from the Location bar.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. '''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)''''' They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

Open Safari. Select Customize Toolbar from the View menu. Select the Address Bar gadget and drag it to Safari's toolbar.

  • How do I find my address bar ?

Yesterday I loaded something to speed up my computer and lost my address bar and home page. I have now uninstalled the speed thing

It might be worth noting too Judy.. that just after I thought I had everything 'fixed', I actually encountered a further extension of my problem when I closed down and then re-opened my browser windows - and ended up back at the same place again..
    SO . . . to fully resolve this, I had to completely uninstall FireFox . . .
(kept my private settings though - you really should keep those because they take ages to build up and develop..)
. . . because I discovered I had saved a copy of the FireFox 10.2 setup program - so I went forward with the process of uninstalling the version 11 from Hell... and am happily back with version 10 now. (But since you've experienced the same problem, it may prove worthwhile to note that the first time I booted up version 10, it TOO had no address bar displaying initially - but thankfully.. when I went into the CUSTOMIZE settings, Low.and.behold.. there it was as an option (labelled "Location") and when I clicked and dragged this "Location" icon to the toolbar, peace was restored in the Universe.
    BY THE WAY EVERYBODY...
If you ever need an older version of any software, you can usually find a copy almost anything at http://www.oldapps.com
And to save you a step searching.. for either an older version of Firefox ~OR~ any of the sequence of BETA versions of the new FireFox Ver.12, you can get them all at this link - http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php
(As of April 11th, 2012 - they are currently at Beta-Step.5)
one at this site - where older versions of many many MANY software programs can be found as well...

when I typed in about:config in the address bar and hie enter, what appeared looked like a lot of files, pages of them, I didn't know where to right click from the menu select "New"

Which prefs to you want to change?
It is not recommended to change prefs in order to tweak some settings.<br />
    Do you have specific problems?

  • Create Launcher and how to find the address bar

    Hi Guys,
I am new to linux and wonder if there is an option to turn on the
address bar for folder such as this is possible in windows. [see here.|http://metalray.redio.de/dokumente/abar.jpg]
Moreover, I noticed oracle enterprise red hat linux allows me (desktop - right click)
to create a "launcher" I guess that is something that fires on system boot ? if so, could
I link such a louncher to my .sh file that fires up the oracle instance ?
    thanks,
    metalray

    1) You can do this by changing a nautilus(1) preference. You should have the gconftool-2 RPM package installed, if not get it. Then:
$ /usr/bin/gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser trueand then click on the COMPUTER desktop icon or run nautilus from a command line.
If you do not like this behavior, just reset the value to false.
    2) No the launcher just adds a tool-bar button to the GNOME panel so you can start a program with a mouse click. Starting services at boot-time requires writing a shell script for {font:Courier}/etc/init.d/{font} and some chkconfig(8) and service(8) fiddling.

  • First I realized my Google bar, in the top right hand corner of the home page, is gone... but now I can't even find an address bar. So if I want to put in a website address, there's nowhere to put it. Can anyone help?

I think I said everything I needed to in my "Topic" comment. Thank you for any suggestions

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I'm not running 10.5.8 and it's been a while, but in your browser (Safari, right?) click on the word 'View' in the top menubar and you should see 'Show Toolbar' right at the top, as well as other choices. Clicking 'Show Toolbar' should restore your 'address bar' back to the way you expect it to look.
Some websites purposely open a new window without any 'distractions', such as to play video clips. If you close the original window, you can be left without the familiar tools.
'Customize Toolbar' also lets you drag other defined buttons to add functions you use frequently that usually require navigating the menubar. I added a 'Print' button that was not part of the original set, for example.

If you are talking about moving the page to your desktop, then all you have to do is drag the favicon to the left of the address bar to the Desktop.
If you are talking about something else, please explain a little clearer.
    Thank you! :)

  • I deleted my safari address bar by mistake can't find it

I somehow deleted my safari url address bar by attempting to customize the toolbar. I have no idea what I customized or where the url bar is. Thank you.

Where is a new toolbar on the customize toolbar link?  Or how do I drag in a blank toolbar when there isn't one to drag in?? Would I open firefox and drag in that toolbar?  I just don't know how I lost it in the first place.
    Thank you

Thank you! My next question is: ok so I am searching in the address bar. How do I get the prior search history and bookmark similar searches from showing up when I start pressing letters to search? I also am no longer able to use my delete key to go to a previous page. Thanks!

  • When I drag and drop an icon from the address bar to the desktop is does creat the shortcut but will not display the website icon, only the firefox icon, how can I display website icons?

When I drag and drop a website icon from the Forefox address bar to the desk top, the short cut is created but the icon that appears is the firefox Icon. I want to disply the icon from the website that the short cut refers to. I have checked all I can think of in my computer to no avail.

You have to assign the favicon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click the shortcut: Properties) after you have dragged the link to the desktop.
You can usually find the favicon in Tools >Page Info > Media and save the icon there.
Otherwise use the main domain of the website and add favicon.ico (e.g. mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder.

  • The Url History in the address bar is not working anymore. Reinstalling/Updating does not fix this. How to I get this working again?

I'm talking about the Address Bar.
For example: You type in Google and it shows www.google.com etc. Because this is in your history.
But this has stopped working since I emptied my cookies. But not my history. I also checked if my history is still there. Which it is.
And I cant find out why at all.
I'm sorry if I really can't give much info. But this is what I concluded. Seeing English ain't my native language. My google searches for this question seem to be either in the wrong direction or this is something that never happened before.

Tools>Options>Privacy - Click the drop down menu under Location Bar and set when using the location bar, suggest to - History and Bookmarks.
