Finder Alias Broken after Changing Router

I have two Macs in a network. The iBook uses the iMac as a server.
On the iBook I have some alias folders that point to the original folders on the iMac server.
I recently changed my router and the IP address of the iMac changed.
Now if I open the alis when the server volume is mounted then all is well. If I open the alias when the server is not mounted then the alias is flagged by the Finder as needing to be fixed. It looks as if the Finder is not finding the new location of the server volume. If I repair the alias then the finder will mount the volume and open the orginal.
I would have expected the Finder to automatically repair the alias since the name of the server is still the same.
Any suggestions?
Richard
iBook, iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The aliases you created are linked to an IP address that no longer exists. It's the same thing that would happen if you made an alias of a folder then placed that folder inside of another one. The link would be broken and Finder wouldn't know where it was.
Your only solution is to fix the links or create new aliases of the folders.

  • Can't find wireless printer after changing router

I have recently changed my router to a Virgin media superhub. This has obviously changed my network details. I had 2 wireless printers running on my old network. ?I have managed to get one working as it has a menu screen on it and it was just a matter of searching for the new network. My second printer, a HP 1102w does not have a menu just buttons. I cannot get my Mac to see it in any of the preference options

maybe the features of the usb port is controlled by the routers setup page most routers have some ip address you type into a browser and login to the router to set them up try that
because some routers have usb for external hd some for printers some only for firmware updates (like the Apple TV (which of cause are not routers but have usb connector for the sole purpose of upgrading a crashed firmware))

  • After changing router cannot printer to wireless system

Just changed router and found the printer was no longer visible so stated a complete reinstall, got a page that requested I connected a USB cable printer/computer to continue. I do not have a long enough lead and did not need one the first time I installed the printer so what is going wrong> I have 64 bit Windows 7 thought I may need a different driver but nothing works because I cannot complete installion

I suspect it is your router causing problems.  First, restart the router by pulling its power plug momentarily.
Next, on the printer go to the wireless menu and choose "Restore Defaults".
Finally, reconnect the printer to the router as you would normally.
After all this you will likely have to delete and re-add the printer on your computer.

  • Can't find some files after changing drive name

I keep all my music files on an external drive, and my iTunes folder (and iTunes Music folder) on the internal drive. After changing the name of the external drive, a good number of files (not all, and probably not even most, but a lot) couldn't be found by iTunes.
I'm suspecting that this problem results from having my files stored externally and separate from the internal default iTunes Music folder, but I'm hoping someone can give me some more details about this and hopefully help find a solution. Thanks.

In the root of the filesystem there normally is a folder "lost+found", in which files with strange names are found. These are the files cvfsck has collected in the recovering of the filesystemnames. It is sometimes not possible to recover the original file name and location. So this is the only way for cvfsck to give them back.
If you think the content of these files is allright, you can rename and relocate them.

  • HP 200 MFP M276nw not seen in the network after changing router

Printer:  LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw
LAN: two PC's (Windows 7) and the printer wired to the router.  Other devices connect wireless.  Internet service is cable.
I installed this printer when a Linksys E2500 router was in use.  The network configuration after installation of the printer was:
    IPv4 address: 192.168.1.120
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    IP Configured By: DHCP
I  replaced the Linksys router with a Netgear WNDR4500 (N900) router one month ago.  Everything worked fine for about two weeks.  Suddenly, the jobs sent to the printer started to take a very long time to begin printing, until they stopped printing altogether.  The printer did not appear as an attached (wired) device in the router's Web-based interface.  Not even the HP printer software or the HP Print and Scan Doctor could find a printer attached.
I unisntalled and reinstalled the printer, but was not successful until I changed the Ethernet cable connecting the printer to the router.  The difference is that the old cable is Cat5e and the replacement a Cat6 ???  It is printing and scanning now but the printer is still absent as a wired device, and I am afraid that it will stop working once again.
I noticed that the printer's network configuration after reinstallation is:
    IPv4 address: 169.254.230.140
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
    Default Gateway: 169.254.230.140
    IP Configured By: AUTOIP
Searching the Web, I found an article saying that AUTOIP might be a sign of router or cable problems.  My suspicion is that the printer's IP address is changing constantly and that's the reason for the printing delay.
My questions to the experts are: could I assign a manual IP address to the printer so I can add in the router -it provides for doing so-, and how is this done?   In the HP Device Toolbox, under IPv4 Configuration, there is a drop-down menu with different options -DHCP, BOOTP, AUTOIP, and Manual- but I don't know if changes are done here, or if it is a more complex undertaking.
    Thank you very much.
    Cordially,

I fixed the problem the same day I posted the help request.
I shut everything down -including the cable modem and router-  but left the printer on.  Went to the printer's panel and changed toe IPv4 configuration from AutoIP to Manual.  I already had picked an IP address starting with 192, since I've read that IP's starting with 169 are associated with AutoIP settings.  From there, the printer presented valid Subnet Mask addresses, I picked one, as well as a Default Gateway address.  Then I shut down the printer.
I turned back on the modem, router, pc's, and printer.  The router then showed the printer as an attached device with its newly assigned IP address.
I suspected the cable was not a problem here, so I put back the Cat5e Ethernet cable.  What baffles me is why the printer changed to AutoIP because it was not done by any user.  Checking the reports printed when the printer was first installed, I see that the IP adress method as DHCP.  After putting in the new router, changes consisted in SSID name and password in the wireless devices, and a firmware uodate of the router.
This was learning by trial since I am not a computer expert, but so far, we are to print and scan documents.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to read the post and offered help.

  • Can't find mp4 file after changing media kind setting to podcast

I recently imported some home videos into iTunes.  The default "media kind" is movies so I changed to podcast b/c I didn't want to mix home videos with movies when surfing through lists on my Apple TV.  After chaning the media kind setting now I can't find the file in iTunes.  Any idea on how I can update the media kind info so I can see the file again in iTunes on my Windows PC?

    Hi Abdul,
Thank you very much for quick reply.
After I change the parfilename I do see that registered
service name get affects, but I still can't use it from
the portal component that resides inside the changed
parfile, unless I change the alias of the service
EVERYWHERE in the project (including soapconfig.xml file).
It makes some sense if I leave the previous par file with
the original service name at the portal, but it doesn't
(at least to me) if I remove the first par file (what
removes the service too) and upload the new one only
with the original service name. What do you say?
    Thank you,
    Yuri

  • Finder sidebar broken after 10.5.6 upgrade

    Hallo everyone
After upgrading my MacPro using the full combo update, I have the following problem with the Finder:
If you collapse all disclosure triangles on the sidebar and expnad them again, the display of all icons and labels is completly messed up.
Labels are overlapping and clicking does break the highlighted rows.
Can somebody confirm they have the same issue?

    Patrick,
You may want to refresh the Sidebar plist file by dragging the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and confirm your settings in Finder>Preferences...>Sidebar

  • Officejet 7590 can not be found on network after changing router

Recently changed my router and once I did, I lost connection with the printer from my MacBook. It still printed using a pc desktop connected to the router with an Ethernet cable to the router. I reset the printer to see if it would reconnect with the MacBook and now it doesn't work with any of the computer.
The IP address is now 0.0.0.0.
When I plug it into the router the LAN light doesn't light up. I have gone through most sequences of resetting the router to establish a new IP. Power everything off then power up the modem, then router, then plug in the Ethernet, then power up the printer the pc.
I've reset the Network IP through settings. The router is enabled for DHCP. I've manually set the IP to 192.168.1.254 then 255.255.255.000 on the sub and 0's at the gateway.
For some reason the printer suddenly won't communicate with the router. Also change Ethernet cables and ports on the router.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Unplug the Ethernet cable.  On the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Restore defaults.  Plug in the Ethernet cable and retest.

  • Finder quits/restarts after changing name of anything

I've noticed something on my Cube, which I just recently got and transferred the hard drive into from the Mac it replaced.
If I change the name of anything - a file, a folder, whatever - the Finder quits and restarts.
Any thoughts on what might be the cause and the solution?
    Thanks

An easy thing to try is go to User > Library > Preferences and move the file com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop, restart and see if it works now.
Did you literally just move the drive from one computer to another and boot? I am not sure to what extent OSX might customize an install for a specific machine's capabilities.

  • Ipad 2 not communicating with my HP3050a printer after changing router?

Hi, hope someone can help.  Recently changed broadband provider and now using a different router/network.  I've set up my printer using the USB cable to a windows laptop and then enabled WiFi as directed.  Now the laptop is working fine but my Ipad seems to see the printer on the network but can't communicate with it even though it is designated a shared device.  Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks

My guess is a firewall in the router.   You will need admin access to the router (contact the provider).  If a firewall is present, turn it off and test the printer.  If it works, turn the firewall back on but weaken it a tad and test the printer again.  Repeat as required.

  • Cisco SA520 IP alias broken after FW upgrade

We have a Cisco SA520 running on a Comcast 5 IP block. We just recently upgraded the firmware from 1.1.42 to 2.1.51 and now we are unable to use our IP aliases that we setup to route one server's traffic to a particular WAN IP Alias which is different from the rest of the network. Here is what we are trying to accomplish, and yes, it was working fine before the firmware upgrade:
"Server A"-> "External IP Alias A" (Email server)
"All other traffic on same subnet" -> "Default WAN IP" (computers and other servers)
Right now I have the WAN IP setup on the router to be the same IP as the alias we were using before, just to get the server on the right IP. Unfortunately that means all other traffic is on that IP now too.
I'd really like to separate the traffic on the network so we can keep all email traffic on its own WAN IP, and all other network traffic on its own WAN IP too.
What do I need to do to fix this? We originally had an IPV4 Rule in place which worked great. See the attached picture for an example of what worked before.
    Thanks for your help!!

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem ! Although on a AS5350 running c5350-js-mz.123-4.T2.bin.
tried "isdn map address . plan isdn type national" on the serial interface. Did not work.
Also tried adding "isdn calling number ........" (8 digits). Did not work.
When debugging on SIP the CLID is being received from the SIP client.
Interesting that we have the same problem on the same software ? hopefully someone will give pointer as to which software that works or a workaround command.
    Regards
