    its very important files!

    tis true
I know, I always do that but I was in a rush to get somewhere and I was relying on my thousand dollar Mac to do some kind of recovery or something. I know Microsoft always keeps temporary files (I think Mac does too, part of me asking here in this forum was for someone to tell me where I can find those files) and when you go to open Office Works then it gives you the option of opening the last recent documents, saved or not saved.
I usually copy paste into my emial just in case something goes wrong with the created document but I just didn't have the time to login and do all that My loss, you live and you learn, BUT still if ANYONE got any info on this, PLEASE DO CHIME IN *keeping the hope alive*

  • Find all music files and move to one folder for all of family to access, find all music files and move to one folder for all of family to access

I seem to have music files in various places on my laptop, on my husbands computer and our main imac.  What we want to do is put all music on imac so when each of us logs on we have the same files availabe in itunes, but we logon seperately so we can have different playlists and checked music. So here is what I want to do:
Find all music files on each computer seperately and put everything in one folder one each computer, so three folders total to start...
Move my husbands itunes library and my itunes library from each of our laptops to our main imac, making one huge itunes folder
I want to store our music on an external hard drive, which I have, so I have a full library for backup purposes.
I want all future music downloaded on any of our laptops to transfer to the main imac computer, again to keep one main library
I want all video, apps, books, etc on each laptop to be available in one file on my main imac also so we can all use them
So mainly I want to organize, organize, organize and put everything in one spot so things don't get all messed up and some items are only accessible to me some times and not my husband or vice versa.  We want to share everything we can so we don't have to pay twice. I have read many instuctions, but nothing seems to be helping me and was hoping someone could...
    Thanks, l

I am totally running into the same issue as well. On top of that, when syncing to my iPhone, it took some of the tracks from my iphone and recopied them to the iTunes library, as new files, so now I have a ton of duplicates, and tons of tracks that can't find the iTunes folder, so they have the little "!" next to them.
It would be really nice to have someone answer this question. I didn't think, moving my iTunes library to a bigger external hard drive would have caused all this madness

  • Apple script to find all duplicate files

Is it possible to write an applescript to find all duplicate file names on my hard drive? My hd is almost full, and if I can delete duplicate files, it'll save me from having to buy another external drive.
    Thanks,
    George

Why would you have found 20GB of duplicate images?  iPhoto has built-in duplicate detection, it can remove any duplicates or prevent them from being imported altogether.  Did you disable this in iPhoto for some reason?  Or were you still using folders and subfolders to store your photos?
Just because two pictures have the exact same filename does NOT mean they are identical.  If this application you used simply compared their filenames, it's possible you actually lost all those photos and not just some duplicates.  ;(  Because many cameras reuse filenames after a certain point!

  • All My Files no longer showing in Finder

Instead all that's there is a Search bar with 'This Mac' and 'All My Files' on it and blank below it. Before it always used to show, well, all my files! What can have happened? I don't recall playing around with it or anything. This isn't really a serious thing as all my files (which are, in the main, .doc files) are safe and sound on the hard drive and I always back them up on a USB stick, but I'm just wondering what's going on? Thanks!

Hmm, why would an empty Spotlight results window be showing when you click on All My Files? I can't see anything that lets you show all the files in All My Files! I just want it to go back to how it looked before with all the files in it. As I say I can't recall doing anything to it.
If it helps, in 'Get Info' on the sidebar the path (I think that's what it's called anyway) is
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/MyLibraries
and in 'Get Info' in the search body it's
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/MyLibraries/myDocumen ts.cannedSearch
I don't know what the path would be if it looked how it did before and displayed all the files.

  • "All My Files" won't open, crashes Finder

Every time I attempt to open the "All My Files" folder, finder crashes and I am unable to do anything on my computer without relaunching finder.
Anyone seen something like this happen or know a fix?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • 'All My Files' doesn't show all file types (e.g. .Zip)

Does anyone know how to make the 'All My Files' option in Finder display Zip files and Folders?
When I look at the search criteria, 'All My Files' seems to be only looking for 'Documents' and 'com.microsoft.'.
    Thanks,
    M.

'All My Files' doen't even show pdf and doc files that I know are on my machine.
Maybe should be called 'Barely Some of My Files.'
I went into 'Search Criteria' and put in only one criteria line, searching for "any" file of "any" type.
    This seemed to work.

  • "All My Files" doesn't show all of my files

When I select the "All My Files" view in a Finder window, it correctly shows my files sorted by file type "Presentations", "PDF documents", "Images", etcetera.  The problem is that many, if not most, of my files aren't listed.
For example, on the "PDF documents" row, the right-hand side of the Finder window says "Show all (58)" when I in fact have over 700 .PDF files.  Likewise, the Finder window only shows one file of the type "Presentations" and one file of the type "Spreadsheets", even though I have almost 150 of each.  If I perform a Spotlight search on ".ppt" or ".xls", all of my files show up correctly and are identified correctly by type (i.e. "Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation" or "Microsoft Exel Workbook"), so I know that Lion knows what type of files these are.  So why is only one of each showing up in the "All My Files" view?
I've also noticed that the only images that show up in "All My Files" are the ones that *aren't* in iPhoto.  Likewise, the only music files that show up in "All My Files" are the ones that *aren't* in iTunes, but I'm guessing that this is because I'm supposed to access those files through iPhoto or iTunes rather than through the Finder?
Any help would be appreciated.  I can actually see the "All My Files" view as being a useful feature, but only if it would in fact show all of my files.
    Thanks,
    Scott Gardner

    I can help you.
but I am not good at english.
    so I am sorry.
    anyway,
the solution is that edit your file which path is "/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/MyLibraries/myDocum ents.cannedSearch"
    for example
I need to search my "data" partition.
it must be mounted in "/Volumes/data"
    and do this

  • 7d CR2 files won't show in Bridge CS4

I've run updates through Photoshop and Bridge trying to get my 7D photos to show as thumbnails in Bridge. They simply won't show and I can't find a way to make them show. When I try and open a CR2 file, the image opens in ACR 5.7, which i know isn't the latest version, but when I try to run updates again, it tells me there are no updates to install. Help!

You should be running ACR 5.7, not 5.6.
All updates to ACR contain unannounced, unpublished bug fixes and improvements, not just support for new cameras.  You should always run the latest version of ACR your version of Photoshop supports.

  • Finder-All My Files- Previous '_' days.. how Do I erase the usage history? without deleting the actual file?

How do you delete the Finder history in All My Files?
I have 35,000 plus in the Previous 30 days category
I'd like to clear all these out without 'trashing' them
I HAVE gone to Go, Recent Folders and Clear AND the Apple icon
Recent items and Clear, and I still have every thumbnail of every photo
ever opened in my All My Files history..... (thousands)

I also had the same issue, but I just discovered that you can set the finder to show, for example, 'Desktop' content by default. There are a few options on the dropdown list you will find there, but I figure you may want to go with the folder that shows fewer or no items at all (since you hate to see that endless list of files). Wanna try? Follow the following path:
Finder > Preferences > General > "New Finder windows show:"
Then choose the folder of your preference; close Finder to refresh; reopen Finder and the long list will be gone. For good! Notice though that, in doing this, you won't be deleting any files from Finder but rather putting them out of sight when you run Finder. So, in case you really need to pull up a file based on history, they will be just a click away on the top of the Finder's FAVORITES menu. It's working for me, and I hope it will work for you, too.

  • Reinstalled DW; now site files won't show

My hard drive recently failed, but I had all my files backed
up. I installed a new HD, and then reinstalled DW. I updated my
website, but when I went to Put the files to the server, I noticed
that no files or tools were showing in the usual Files panel. I'm
guessing that because it's new installation of DW, there's no
history. I apologize if this is a really amateur question; I'm just
a very frustrated teacher out of ideas. Thanks for any
    advice.

You will need to define the site using dw
    menu-->Site-->Manage Sites
set the Local Site Folder to where you have put the backups
    of the site
    assets.
You may want to do a link check of your site, and change the
    pulldown in the
Results window to External files- to see if your edits when
    there was no
site defined caused any paths like file:/// to be made. Just
    do a find in
source for file:/// to see if it happened.

  • Finder All My Files reorg or remove

In Lion Finder opens with All My Files.  Is there a way to tunrn off or change this section so it does not show in both the side bar and in the right column, and so Finder does not open to this section?   I tried to do this in Finder Preferences but that just makes "All My Files" to not be listed in the Side Bar.  All the files still appear in the right column.  The reason I find this feature not helpful is that you must scroll down through thousands of image files to get to PDF Documents (another thousand or so), then Movies, Presentations, Developer, Spreadsheets, and finally Documents of all types (doc, docx, xml, txt, etc.
A list of most recently used files would be more useful, but that seems to have disappeared.

are you trying to stop 'All My Files' loading in the right hand column
if so go to preferences from finder, generel tab, and change the 'new finder window show' drop down to something else
also check out the drop downs at the top of the finder window, you can sort this by recently used etc, so it gives you in a list of files today, yesterday

  • Finder stuck, can't find all desktop files including HD and eternal drives

Just installed the new Leopard. When I turn the computer on it brings the screen up minus all desktop files. Can't find any icon for Stack. I can access email and Safari (internet) but my Firefox won't work.
I tried putting in the Leoaprd installation disk again but with Finder spinning nothing happens. I can find some new icons in the dock (Downloads, Documents and Time Machine).
I have a backup copy of my files on an external drive but without Finder I can't access them.
    Any suggestions?
    Max

I'm having the same problem except I have access to everything for 30 seconds, then everything disappears except the new background image. Nothing I click seems to change anything. I've wiped the drive with an archive and install to see if that fixes the issue.
