First, I suggest you make another full backup to a locally-attached external hard drive. You should do that anyway. One backup isn't enough to be safe, and backing up over a network is less reliable than backing up locally. Then try each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
1. Restart the backup device. You can do that by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord.
2. Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences and check that the device is selected as a destination. If it isn't, select it and try again.
3. Hold down the option key and select Verify Backups from the TM menu in the menu bar (not the Dock icon.) This operation may take a long time. If the menu-bar icon (a clock that runs backwards) isn't showing, check Show Time Machine in menu bar in the preferences.
4. Erase the backup device. With a Time Capsule, you do that from within the AirPort Utility application; see its built-in help for details. All backups on the device will be lost, so don't do this until you've backed up to another device. After erasing, select the device again as a backup destination in the TM preference pane. The first backup should be made over a wired connection, if possible.

  • An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584).

I get this error mesage, "An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584)." when I try yo run Time Machine application. Time capsule is not showing up under Devices in Finder, and no backups are happening?

This means the backup has likely become corrupted.
Reboot the TC just to be sure.. and even the whole network.. restarting in correct order, modem.. TC and clients with 2min gap.
No luck then do a verify of the backups.
    See A5 here http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
There is another method.. hold the option key as you click the TM icon clock in the top menu.. you will see verify backups there.
Sometimes it is hard to get past it and the only way is to wipe the old backup and start afresh.
See this thread amongst many.. as this is not uncommon.

    Thaks,

This often means the backup is corrupted.
First of all reboot the network.. turn everything off and restart in order.. modem.. TC.. clients.
If you still have issues, hold the option key when you click the Time Machine icon on the top menu and it will bring up verify backups.
    Do that.

It seems to be a fairly complex problem if the above don't work.

  • Error 8062 when I try to copy or move files on my macbook: "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062)". Can even not install new software now!!

Since a few days when I try to copy or move files on my macbook, I often get an error message saying "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -8062)". And then it just quits the copy or move.
I searched a lot on the internet, but only found solutions for cases you cannot empty the trash due to this issue.
I tried those solutions for my trash and that helped after some trying.
However, I still have the problem with copying and moving files.
I even cannot install new software now, as it has to copy itself to the programs-directory, and gives the same error-message.
    Who can help me??
Cannot seem to find any info on it on the support-forums or elsewhere.
    My user-account is administrator, I use a 13" Macbook Aluminium (Late 2008). Mac OS X 10.6.8 CPU 2Ghz Intel Core Duo, RAM: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

Tips I received so far (thanks to A-Mac via Twitter http://www.a-mac.nl and Remco Kalf http://www.remcokalf.nl/)
    - make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
    - do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
    - perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
    - make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
    - after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
Still, I will go through the other tips too.

  • The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I have a Seagate Central 3tb NAS (latest firmware) attached to my wireless router (Netgear wndr3400v3).  I have a late 2011 macbook pro with Yosemite on it.  When I go through finder to use my NAS I keep getting "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)" .  I only get it when I am trying to copy a big folder with other folders and files with in.   I can copy a single file or create folders.  If i try to copy a folder with 100 pics in it then I get the error.  I can create the folder on the NAS and select all 100 files.  When I drag them to the NAS, then they copy with no problems.  Every so often my time machine has an error and says that it has to create a new backup. I read some where to make sure that "put hard disk to sleep when possible" should be selected in the energy saver in preferences.  Still no luck.  A can also drag any file from the NAS back to my laptop or view them from the NAS with no problems.
Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hi there,
Well I have exactly the same problem! Recently I reset my WD My book White light (2 x 1TB RAID disk), due to the fact that the disk ran full because of TimeMachine.
I reset the disk, and now I can only write some files to it, but most give this error code.
I wrote to WD, but they could not give an answer.
Q: did you update the firmware? Maybe that is causing the problem, in that it is maybe not consistant in the filesystem?

  • I tried to empty the trash, full of back up file from my hard disk and it just says: "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)"

I have an external hard disk of 319.73 GB that I use as back up memory and where I put all the movies and other files that I can't leave on the computer as they occupy too much memory space . One day I was deleting all the previous dated back up to have more space on it , but had to stop the trash for doing it cause it was taking too long and now every time that I try to empty the trash it just says "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)" and even if I press CONTINUE it won't empting it . I'm not really pratical with this things and I tried already to find out the solution here and on Google but apparently nobody ever had a similar error code and I don't know what else to do.
    I've a MacBook Pro with a Mac OS X 10.6.8 Version.
Thanks again for the help and sorry if I did some english mistakes !

  • The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8060).

    Hi,
I want to copy a folder from desktop to my document (or anywhere else on a MAC) I got this error "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8060)." everytime at the same position when it's about to finish (sth like 75%).
I have MBPR + Mountain Lion and the folder is a Xcode project if it helps.
BTW there is nothing in trash.
    Thanks

Thanks but I solved this problem with this tip:

Re: Error when trying to copy one of my folders, or compress it in the finder
Aug 11, 2012 12:41 PM (in response to Maziyar)
I found some subdirectories within my Project folder that were complete duplicates of other directories. After deleting those, I no longer had the error.  I don't know where they came from, but think they may have been created after an upgrade, say from Xcode 3.0 to 4.0 but don't remember.  Anyway, don't know any more about it, only that it went away after I deleted those duplicate subfolders.  Good luck !
I found unlimited folder in folder in my Xcode project folder that made the size from 285MB to 1.5G. It was that duplicate folders made this error.
I removed and it solved the problem.
    Thanks

"I also use the application "Clean My Mac" at least ounce a month to rid it of all unwanted or unneeded files, which also is supposed to keep my Mac running at optimum speed, just as a by-the-way."
There is your problem right there!!!
CleanMyMac is complete and total paid ""garbageware"!!!!
You may have irreparably damaged/corrupted and/or deleted important/needed system and  OS X operational files using CleanMyMac.
You can try and use this uninstaller to completely uninstall CleanMyMac, but the damage to your system may have already happened and has been done
since you readily admit to using this garbageware regularly on your Mac.
Here is the proper way to uninstall both CleanMyMac and CleanMyMac2.
    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac-classic/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-clea nmymac-classic
    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-2
Make sure which version of CleanMyMac you are using and pick the correct uninstaller.
Do you run any other so-called hard drive "maintenance" or "cleaning" apps or any type of commercial antivirus softwares?
If you do, you need to search the web to find out how to correctly and properly uninstall these types of apps.
You now may need to get yourself another external hard drive, purchase and use a data cloning app, such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to create a exact bootable clone of your Mac's internal hard drive to a new external hard drive.
Then erase and reformat your boot drive and do a complete, clean reinstall of you OS X system, system and security updates as well as  a complete reinstall of all of your applications and updates.
Let this be a very important lesson to you!
Apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary OR needed. They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac. Their potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
These types of  system 'cleaning" apps are very poorly written and are really a scam to rob newbie and novice Mac users of their hard earned cash for a poorly written maintenance program that will do much more harm to a perfectly normal running OS X system than the good that the app developers purport these types of apps will do.
Plus, the software companies that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and important data is too great a risk!
Here is a proper and manual methodology to "cleaning" data off of your Mac.
Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie user, iMovie has its own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
    http://www.omnigroup.com/more
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

Yosemite is driving me crazy ....
I have a home network with two iMacs and two TimeCapsules, and my MBP is also in this WLAN network. The TimeCapsules are serving for TimeMashine, one for each of the iMacs. And the MBP is opened for file sharing to allow syncing of data. When I try to mount either the MBP or the TimeCapsule (1 TB with software version 7.6.4, configured to allow/enable file sharing) on the iMac (21,5' Mid 2010, running 10.10.2) I get this error message:
    ===
    The operation can’t be completed.
An unexpected error occurred (error code 0).
    ===
However, the device is mounted and available. And I can access the files on both "Servers" using the Finder normally.
    What is going on?

I assume that the flash drive format (from what I´d been reading) most be fat32....not accepting more than 4 gigas...
    That would be the problem.
What format does Disk Utility tell you the flash drive is?
    Try reformatting the flash drive?

  • When copying to NAS, "..an unexpected error occurred (error code -51)"

I'm using Mac OSX 10.6.8 on a macbook pro, copying files to a media NAS server via wifi (n), which I've done countless times before, for about 2 years.
In this last week or so, whenever I copy a file, be it 15 MB or 1.5 GB to the NAS, I've consistently been getting the error:
"The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -51)."
There's around 1 TB of free space on the NAS. Windows PCs can copy to it fine. I can still read from it fine, but copying to it is giving me a lot of trouble. I get the error message more often than not, but if I persist in trying to copy it will eventually allow me to copy whichever file I'm trying.
Size of files do no seem to be the issue.
Ive tried a suggested fix of Finder > Preferences > Sidebar > UNTICK Connected Servers ... this has not helped.
I've tried copying using PathFinder as well as Finder, both have the same issue.
I've looked into the Console messages but I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to find (bit of a mac newb for tech issues).
Could really use some help with this.. would be highly appreciative even for some good leads.
    Thanks in advance!
