Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

However i can (and have) access my store account from my ipod touch, and have downloaded the material, but this has not cleared the downloads through for my laptop, and the same problem occurrs every time i sign in.

Is there an option that someone knows about that would keep this from happening?
no, if iTunes can't find its drive/folder, it defaults to creating one within your Home directory's Music folder.
If anyone knows a way I send a product suggestions to apple please let me know, as I have a few that would like to suggest.

  • Updated and now Itunes stops responding

I had just finished organizing my library and I was asked if I wanted to update itunes. So I did. I got it installed, started it up, and half way through "updating itunes library" itunes freezes and stops responding. I tried multiple times to no avail. So I uninstalled itunes and redownloaded it. Now when I try to add music to my library, itunes stops responding. What is the deal? Is there anyway I can get an older version of itunes?

  • TS3212 Every time I connect my iPhone 4 to my computer to sync, iTunes stops responding.  I have removed and redownloaded iTunes and the problem continues.

Every time I connect my iPhone 4 to my computer to sync, iTunes stops responding.  I need to shut it down and restsrt to access iTunes.  I have removed and redownloaded iTunes and the problem continues.

Try disconnect your computer from the internet and see if you can open iTunes and connect your device without crash.
if iTunes does open without crash, go to iTunes Menu Edit > Preferences, "Advanced" tab and click the "Reset Cache" button, OK.
    Close your iTunes.
Now, use Windows Explorer to delete the contents of Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Download
You may now re-connect your internet then see if you can open iTunes and connect your device without issues.

  • ITunes stops responding

I have an iMac G4 1.25 GHz (with 10.4.10) with 1MB of RAM and an external Seagate 300 GB HDD connected via Firewire. I store my iTunes library on the HDD. It has worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. iTunes was trying to download 50+ podcasts and it stopped responding. The HDD was acting funny so I used Disk Utility to repair it and it said it had a minor bitmap problem. It has been repaired a few times over the past couple of weeks, but for the most part, the drive works fine. Something happens, though, every time I open iTunes. I downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled it. I trashed the iTunes folder in my My Music folder on the internal hard drive with the intention of re-adding the music on the external to the iTunes library. Nothing works. Any ideas? I thought it was the external hard drive, but iTunes seems to lock up before the drive seems to have any problems.

No, I do not have Shapeshifter (nor do I know what it is). I believe the problem is the HDD; I brought it to my main computer and it acted similarly here. I'm glad I bought a new main drive a couple of months ago. I have a Maxtor drive in an Adaptec enclosure that has lasted for years, but this Seagate failed after only a couple of years. My new main drive is a WD My Book; I like it but it only has a one-year warranty. I may buy one of the new Maxtor OneTouch 4+ drives, though I am concerned that they are now owned by Seagate.

  • ITunes stops responding immediately after opening

My iTunes stops responding immediately after opening and even force-quit doesn't do.
Baically it freezes between pressing it and opening the window. In my large library, I can see that it loads it and then nothing more. The menu appears and then the wheel. Force quitting doesn't shut the program, no matter how I do it. It leaves the arrow and the only way is to restart the computer and start again.
I tried using another account, and it does the same. I tried with a new library. I tried with new prefs folder both on the user and on the Mac HD. I tried reinstalling iTunes. I even tried reinstalling the whole OS X - but nothing. The only thing is that after zapping PRAM it might work once or twice, but no more.
This is with iTunes 7.0.2, QuickTime 7.1.3 and OS 10.4.8
I don't know what else to do.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. It started recently - maybe about two weeks ago - and occasionally when I launch iTunes it just freezes. I can't force quit it completely - it still shows in the Dock as though it's running, though it's not present in Activity Monitor.
Curiously, I've also had a couple of kernel panics when clicking iTunes buttons in the past week. I don't recall any system update that might have affected either iTunes or QuickTime, so I'm stumped... The only way to get iTunes back is to log out or restart.

  • Itunes Stops Responding When Any Divice is Plugged In

I have itunes 10.5 the newest one, when I regularly open it everything is ok and works normal. Once I plug in any device such as the itouch 3g, itouch 4g, or the first ipad itunes stops responding. I plug one of the devices in and for a few seconds it looks like itunes will work, but after that the not respondong icon (spinning wheel) shows up. I have quit and reopened itunes many times unplugged the device ran itunes and plugged it back in as well as deleating and reinstalling itunes but I still get the same problem.

i have the exact same problem except i have re installed itunes and it is unresponsive (with the ipod touch in) i have re-installed it again and it still dosn't respond with the ipod touch plugged in
this cannot be a memory issue with my laptop as it is barely a month old
    please help

  • Itunes stops responding for no apparent reason

I have a new iPod (7th generation) that I am using iTunes to download from.
My computer is a Dell Latitude 3540 running Windows 7 (64-bit) Professional Service Pack 1.
My iTunes is version 11.3.1.2 (just downloaded yesterday as I was informed it was a new version that corrected some problems). The first version of iTunes I had was 11.2.2.3.
The problem I am about to explain has happened with both of the above versions.
I am attempting to get my CDs into iTunes now.
When I insert a CD iTunes will read all the tracks. It then starts downloading all of them using the iTunes native format. When it downloads the last track the CD ejects but iTunes no longer responds. I can select nothing on the open window - it is dead.
When I open up the task manager it shows that iTunes is not responding. I can not end the task using from the task manager.
Other things on the computer work fine after iTunes stops responding. The only way I have found to clear this issue is to shutdown and restart the computer. When I open iTunes again I can see the CD that I loaded in iTunes. I can also download it to my iPod OK. But when I try and load another CD into iTunes the same thing occurs again.
So it "sort of works" but having to restart my computer after loading each new CD is not right and time consuming.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • ITunes stops responding when switching between stores

Since the update to 10.5.3.3, I have been experiencing a long wait-time to switch between different nations' iTunes Stores that was not evident in the previous version. Multiple times this morning, iTunes has simply stopped responding as the switch occurs. I was just shutting down the program before, but I let it sit there and it took around 5 minutes to go from one country's store to another, when it took only moments before this update. I do not know if this is only an issue because I recently updated and have not restarted, if it is only affecting Windows users, or if it is a bug that needs to be fixed. What is going on and what should fix things?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime.
I have set Norton Personal Firewall to allow all access for Itunes and Quicktime
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes.
Basically, if I do anything, Itunes stops responding. Can anyone help?

  • ITunes stops responding when I plug in my iPod.  I have updated iTunes to latest version, still crashes.  OS is Vista.

iTunes stops responding when I plug in my iPod.  I have updated iTunes to latest version, still crashes.  OS is Vista. How do I fix this?

    Hm... Strange.
    I had reset the iPhone.
I tried disabling the auto-launch of iPhoto, and...
...when I plugged iPhone in, it started to freeze iTunes, but after a minute or so, the iPhone started synching. I found this odd because I had disabled auto-sync (I press Sync in iTunes when I want to have it Sync).
Now, of course, I do want auto-launch of iPhoto back on, since I like it for when I attach my digital cameras. I hope that when I set it back, it won't re-introduce the problem.
The restart I did may have helped. I resist restarting because my wife's account is often open and she frequently leaves unsaved files up, so it is a pain to respectfully close out her work and then restart.

  • Macbook 2GHz 2GB upgraded to Lion 10.7.4 - Now slow, heats up quickly and regularly stops responding

I have a 2008 Macbook 2GHz 2GB that initially ran on Snow Leopard, and I upgraded it to Lion about 6 months ago. Since the upgrade, it has become slow to start up, open programmes and regularly stops responding - especially when I'm on the Internet - leaving me with the processing colourwheel, and forcing me to turn it off by the button.
I have tried repairing permissions and it doesn't seem to make a difference, could it just be that I don't have enough RAM (only 2GB) to run Lion? I don't want to revert back to Snow Leopard because I sync my laptop with my phone using iCloud, and Snow Leopard would complicate that.
I have also noticed that it heats up especially quickly and gets very hot, although I'm not sure if this problem is related or something to do with the version of Adobe or Microsoft Silverlight that I run on my Macbook.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

Honestly I would never run both Win 7 & XP at the same time in a VM. 7 needs at least 4GB to run properly and uses more resources then XP.
I personally use VMware Fusion and XP. At this time there is no software, that I'm aware of or use, that does not run on XP. So for my Mac Win VM purpose I only run XP with the software in need to use in Windows. This work very well for me. I have 2 CPUs and 3GBs of RAM assigned to XP. Leaving the other 2 CPU cores, 4 HT cores, and 5GBs of RAM for OS X.
Not sure why you need, or want, to run both versions of Windows at the same time. I don't see the need as stated above.
