Finder application

So I just got my iPad a couple weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it, however, I've got some ideas of a couple things that could be added in the release of iOS 4 for the iPad that I think would be useful and make the iPad really live up to it's potential. One of my ideas is the addition of a Finder-like application similar to the one on a Mac computer. The application would be used to access the file system of the iPad. Of course a file system would have to be created for this to work. What I mean is to basically set up folders and such like you would have on a regular computer. Have like "My Documents," "My Pictures" folders set up on the iPad. So rather than only accessing photos in the photos application, you could also navigate to the photos through the Finder application - maybe have it show thumbnails of the photos rather than actually being able to open the file, but this way one would have a way to manage files more like he would on a mac laptop or computer. Also in the Finder application, one could access and manage files created in Pages without having to open Pages. or in Email, for example, if one was to be emailed a file, he could save it in "My Documents" and later access it in Pages or even from another app when he was ready to use the file again. This way all files saved on the iPad could be accessed from one place rather than accessing different types of files in different applications. If this application was added I think it would set apart the iPad from an iPod Touch or iPhone in giving it more functionality as a tablet computer. Also with a file system created on the device itself, one could have access to the contents of the iPad without having to go through iTunes. So, say a person uses their iPad in business and wants to sync documents to it to take home and either then transfer them to another computer for use, or use Pages at another time to edit the document but their computer at the office does not have itunes, he could simply plug the iPad into the computer and access certain parts of the file system to copy and paste files or even whole folders of documents and pictures onto the iPad as if it were a flash drive or an external hard drive or something of the sort. I know i've just rambled a lot and probably confused anyone reading this but basically what i'm envisioning for this application is that it can be opened from the home screen and shows basically the same thing you would see if you opened Finder on a Mac or Windows Explorer on a PC. Once you've gotten to the folder that contains a file you are looking for you can tap that file and be presented with different options such as "Email" "Open in Pages" "Open in Photos" "Quick Look" etc. I would think this sort of file system on the iPad could be accessed in any application like Dropbox or things like that. Or in Pages there would be an "Open" button rather than just "My Documents" and you could see different folders with documents in them. Also in the Finder application, I would like to see a way to create new folders, giving users a way to create some organization with their files. Just an idea, but I could see endless possibilities for an application like this on this device. I think it wold truly set apart the iPad from not only the iPod Touch and iPhone, but also from the competition.

Nice thatnyou have put this all this together, but nobody from apple is reading this for ideas. You should place this into (a few) feature suggestions at http://www.apple.com/feedback

  • Could not find application that created this file error in Acrobat

What is going on? I have an InDesign file that I want to convert by opening Acrobat and then converting to PDF. I am getting the error "Could not find application that created this file. [file name] Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer."
I most often use this functionality when I have multiple files of different origins and need to combine them into one document. Now I'm reading the forums and some are saying this functionality is no longer supported by Acrobat. Pardon my language, but WTF?!?! This is functionality that is commonly used by me and I can only assume other users. Now you have two Adobe products that won't communicate? If so, then all the hoopla stating how great the Adobe suite is should be edited. I have never seen these products take such a step backward!
Sorry for the rant, but I find this to be ridiculous. What is the workaround, besides converting every document to PDF inside its own software and then combing the PDFs?

InDesign uses a different method of making PDF files when you use the File->Export option in InDesign (even with Acrobat installed, it uses an internal copy of the PDF Library engine). As such, the two applications do not communicate directly with each other.
Support for driving the PDF conversion process from within Acrobat has been removed from Acrobat X, beacuse with the new features in InDesign CS4+, Acrobat doesn't have access to the settings it needs to control things such as multimedia, spreads and transitions. ID CS5 divides PDFs into two concepts - "print" and "interactive", neither of which match the presets used by Distiller. Creating PDFs from InDesign files must therefore take place from within InDesign itself.

  • How can I close the finder application

I need to know how to close the finder application because there have been many downloads that I cannot do unless all applications are closed. if you cannot then owners of mac please make it possible because (no offense) if not downloads are useless on the mac.

Hi Jason, Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Pages '08 forum.
This forum is for discussion of issues and techniques arising in the use of Apple's word processing/page layout application Pages '08.
You might try asking your question in the Using Mac OS X Leopard forum, where you may get a more complete answer than the one below.
The Finder is different from other applications in that it is always running when you are running OS X. You can't quit it or even Force Quit it. It is exempt from the "Quit all running applications" instruction you'll see with some installation procedures.

  • Finding Application Module name in read-only view object classes

    Hi all,
I have a fairly basic question about finding application module name when we are coding in ViewObject java classes.
I want to know how can I obtain <<application module>> NAME that our current view object is contained in it at run-time. I think there should be a way to find current application module NAME, when we are in ViewObject classes including View Object, View Row or view object definition classes (I've overridden all mentioned classes).
I should notify that since our view object is read-only I may not count on view object's entity classes, coz as you know a read-only view object don't have any entity in it!
So, if you have any idea about finding current application module name in view object java classes please let me know.
    Appreciate for your replies,
    Nasser

    Thanks guy, it was helpful:)
Now i can access application module name through viewObject classes.
But another question is raised...sorry if i m boring:( I promise its the final question ;)
Is there a way to get application module name in an extended version of JboException class?
    Thanks again for your reply:)

  • What's the best duplicates finder application for Mac OS X?

What's the best duplicates finder application for Mac OS X?

Thank you both!  I ended up going for DupeGuru because it was free and it worked well.   Easy Duplicate Finder baited me with the promise of free download then when the search was over I got the "buy the software" if I wanted to delete more than 10 files.
DupeGuru worked well and so far I have not been asked for money.
    This solves my question.

  • Help: In Finder, "Applications" in left sidebar doesn't work.

    Very weird.
In Finder, "Applications" in sidebar doesn't work now. when I click it, it popups a dialog says "no default applications specified to open document 'Applications'" and no app displayed. And if I right-click it and select "get info", it shows 'Applications' is a package.
What's wrong? It's driving me crazy. No application can be selected now, except in terminal.
    Thanks in advance.

I've heard of this sort of thing happening (though I can't imagine how), but the "has bundle" attribute might be set on the folder. If you have the "XCode (Developer) Tools" installed (it is included as an option in the OS X installer disks, or can be downloaded from Apple), try:<pre>sudo /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a b /Applications</pre>

  • Where so I find application support on iOS 10.8.4

I know where to find application support on about another mac but not my mac which is so updated. If anyone could give me input soon that would be helpful.

You might need to explain in more detail what you are after - it's not quite clear.
Do you mean the Application Support folder?
There are two.  They can be opened by pasting each of these paths into the "Go to Folder..." dialog in the Finder > Go menu.
    /Library/Application Support
    ~/Library/Application Support
(The tilde tells your mac to start in the Home folder of your account.)
You can also highlight each of the paths (or triple-click them), then control click, then Services, then Reveal.

The 'Point and Find' is still not compatible with Nokia E72. The applications that you find from ovi store also depends on its compatibility with your device.

You arne't necessarily doing anything wrong.
Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
That should reinstall the App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is finished installing.
You should see the App Store icon in the Dock and be able to access from your Apple menu also.
Make sure your Mac meet's Lion's requirements

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • To find application component of Program

    Hi all
which table has the application component of the program name...
    i found one way that
    I/P                               Table              output
    obj_name                    TADIR     DEVCLASS
    (program name)
    DEVCLASS                 TDEVC       COMPONENT
    FCTR_ID
    (TDEVC-COMPONENT)  DF14L     PS_POSID(Appl.Comp Name)
    I don't know whether it's correct way......
Kindly suggest me about finding Application component name of the program name.
    Thanks In Advance.

    Dear Joe,
I would appreciate if you could the procedure you were following. Were you trying to find it using a table entry?
There are two ways I know depending on weather you know the package of the program. Application Component of a program is generally defined in the Package of that particular program.
    > One is from the Attribute of the Program
    >>Go to --> Attribute --> Package(Double Click) --> Application Component.
    > Second one is if you know the package.
    >> Open se21 --> Enter Package name --> you will get the "Application Component" in the Attribute tab.
    Best Regards,
    Rajesh

  • Spotlight seems to be of no use except for finding applications

Whenever I search for music, pictures, videos, or even simple word documents on Spotlight, it returns no results unless I first click "Show All" so the Spotlight window comes up and then only by selecting "Home" under "Where". Whenever I search directly from the Spotlight icon, however, it's basically useless, except for finding applications. What's wrong with it? How can I fix it so that it searches for everything that it was made to find?

    Eyeonic -
As you seem to be finding, Spotlight's kind of problematic. In my experience it manages both to find too little and too much.
-- "Too little" because, rather than search your hard drive, Spotlight searches its own index, which by design doesn't include everything on your computer; plus from time to time the indexing process simply doesn't complete itself, or the index becomes silently corrupt. I don't trust Spotlight searches.
-- "Too much" because the unrestricted Spotlight search from the menubar returns every document that contains even a whiff of your search term, the result being that you may have to slog through 400 hits to find the one document with the filename you specified. (You can perform the search using cmd-F and that will help a bit but it's a few more keystrokes.)
For simple filename searches I've found it is best to simply bypass Spotlight altogether and use the non-index-based utility EasyFind (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11706). It's not as fast as the pre-Tiger cmd-F find but it produces more reliable and more predictable results than anything Spotlight can currently offer.
I'm hoping (without any particular basis for it however) that Apple makes Spotlight a little more useable in Leopard.

  • How to finds applications that are still running?

How do I find applications that are running on my computer?  I can't install a new version of Google Drive because I get the message that this application is open.  When I bring up the panel to do a force quit I do not see that application listed.  Once I find the app running how do I quit it?
    Thanks for any tips.
    Bryan

Use Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities). After opening it, go to View menu (on the menu bar) > All Processes, and quit the processes related to the apps that the installer needs.
Another way is to start up in safe mode by holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting. This allows you to install any application without any problem, as no third-party apps are running
