Finder Arrange by Kind - Disable Coverflow/Show All by Default?

I have Finder set to Arrange by Kind and sort by name in OS X 10.7 and it's much better than on Snow Leopard with one exception.  Folders are shown first (which I love) and the icons are shown in groups (which I love), but the groups by default are in sort of a Coverflow orientation that forces you to scroll left/right to see all of the files/folders.  There are "Show All" buttons for each group, but OS X doesn't remember when you've chosen to Show All.
I was wondering if anyone knew of an option or way to get Finder to "Show All" in each category by default.  If I could get this to happen I would finally have my ultimate Finder configuration.  Thanks.

Here is a partial solution to this issue.
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/19019/how-do-i-get-rid-of-the-sub-headi ngs-in-finder-with-arrange-be-date-created-in
In the very least, It allows you to select 'none' which takes the display arrangement back to how it was with Snow Leopard. Then when you want to sort the contents of any folder by name/date modified etc, use "View/Clean Up By" options from the task bar. This allows sorting of folder contents by date modified WITHOUT coverflow, but also without the today/yesterday/last week separations. Not exactly the perfect answer to Iwata's question, but works for me. I love cover flow in iTunes, but for browsing folders? No sir, I don't like it.

  • Finder : arrange by kinds: how to always "show all"

I hope you know what i mean. I like the new feature "arrange by kinds" but if i have a lot of files, it stills displays by one row for each kind, so i'd have to swipe left and right to look for something i want, unless I make an extra click "show all"
I'd like it better if it shows all by default.
    Do you know how?

I know that option, select none for arrangment and select 'kind' for sort.
But that doesn't keep the folders on top. And I like the separating line between each kind.

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush Manager does not show all the default brushes

The brush panel shows all the default brushes, but the Brush Presets panel and the Brush Preset Manger do not, intact the last brush that they show is "100 Rough Round Bristle". it only shows the first 67 at max... if you delete anything before the 100 Rough Round, that becomes the new default number. It's like the rest of the brushes don't exist. Although I can select them in the Brush Panel.
If I want to load any other brush set, it over writes any brushes that appear after "100 Rough Round Bristle".
Need some serious help as my workflow is being severely hampered.
    Cheers!

  • How can I save my finder arrange/sort options once and for all?

I'm opening the Finder View Options panel and resetting the arrange and sort options several times a day and it's driving me nuts. The Finder ignores my desperate pleas to apply these options system-wide and seems to purposely forget the options I chose the day before.
I notice that the Icon view, List view, and even the Cover Flow view in the Finder get a "Use as Defaults" button in the View Options. Those of us in the Column View don't get that button, though. What have we done to deserve this?
I'd like the Finder to now and forevermore open every window with the following options:
    Column View
    Arrange By > Kind
    Sort By > Name
Can anyone help me make this happen? Thanks!

I've found setting the Arrange By to anything other then None gives different results then what I expected.
Select Column View from the Tool bar then open View Options and set Arrange By to None and Sort By to Name.
If you then see the names in reverse alphabetical order click on list in the tool bar then on the Name column header to put them right. in Alphabetical order, then switch back to column view on the Tool bar. you should be good to go from there
Whoever thought up Finders View logic should have their head checked.

  • Is there a way to automate "show all" when opening Finder

Is there a way to do this? When i open finder, it just want it to show all the folders. I have to click top right, "show all" all the time most of the day.
It would be nice just to have it a default

Finder > Preferences > General tab > New Finder windows show:  All my files.

  • How to make "Show All" folders the default in Finder

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and I'm having a lot of problems customizing my Finder folders to my liking. I love the new "Arrange By..." function, but the only thing that's bothering me is having to manually click "Show All" for my folders and files every time. Is there any way of making this the default setting?
If not, is there an alternative way for keeping my folders locked in a set order? For example if I have the a main folder and within it are the subfolders "Art" "Music" "Photos" "Misc" can I have them so they always show up in that order and won't rearrange themselves everytime I add new files into the folder?
I hope that question makes sense.
I am referring to that Show All button just to be clear

  • Spotlight "Show all in Finder" not working

    Hello
I have a mac book pro 2.7 Ghz i& with 16 GB RAM
    1) Whenever I search for something in spotlight, when I click on "Show all in Finder", nothing happens
Also, When I check the preferrences, I have some yellow triangles for the keyboadr shortcut
I've reindex everything but same issues comes up.
    2) Also, it seems that it only searches on local drive, not on my external drives as well, even though they are also indexed.
    Thank you

Got me stumped there.  My understanding (limited) is that the Apple Events daemon works for a while when freshly launched, but for reasons unknown it gets bolloxed after a certain number of calls.  No error messages appear in Console, which makes it especially hard to track down.  If yours gets hosed immediately, that's not the usual pattern.
iPhoto and iTunes use Apple Events quite a lot.... if you have either of those apps running, you might see what happens without them.  Failing that, see what happens when no applications are running.  Finally, see what login items are being fired up (System Preferences => Users and Groups => Login Items) and disable those.
This bug only crops up on a small number of Macs, and as far as I know nobody's been able to track down what triggers it.

  • How do I find the History for past sites I've been to? It's not showing up when I select "Show all history."

I want to find sites I've previous visited in past sessions, but when I go to "Show All History," it doesn't show anything. I forgot to save the tabs before I quit Firefox and now I can't find those sites. Isn't there a way to view all the sites I've been to within the last 30 days? That's what I have it set up for in my preferences.

    Hello Veronica.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your question, hopefully this support article is what you need:
If you access your history, you can see that it is sorted by date (you can sort it by other criteria, if you want). Maybe that is the source of the confusion?

The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.

  • Finder doesn't show all files

When I add new photos to iPhoto, they do not appear as a file or item in Finder Documents list. I thought Finder was supposed to show all files and items that you create?

santra, use EasyFind or Find File instead. BY default, Apple's own Finder/spotlight doesn't search everywhere and doesn't find everything (Mac fanboys will tell you this is a feature and is so intelligent that some people can't understand how smart it is; I prefer to think of it as a defect).
    Easyfind is here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8707

  • Spotlight does not open a finder window when i choose Show all in finder menu?

I have a significant number of files in my Macbook Air. A lot of them are research papers and medical literature.
About a month ago I updated the operating system from snow Leopard to mountain Lion and I had no reasons to complain except a smaller battery time.
Since then I installed every OS update.
After the last update, a few days ago, Spotlight does not open a finder window when i choose Show all in finder menu.
Spotlight continues to work properly if I write a name or expression in spotlight in a finder window but not in the upper left corner at the menu bar
    As this been described yet?
    Thank you in advance

I had the same problem yesterday after performing a clean install of Mountain Lion (10.8.2) on my MacBook Pro.
I resolved the problem by booting from the Mountain Lion Recovery Partition and then running Disk Utilty (Repair) for the primary disk on which Mountain Lion is installed.  It identified (and repaired) many permissions issues...
When I rebooted following the repair, Spotlight worked again properly -- including the "Show All in Finder" function.

  • Finder does not show all colors from selected color Labels

Since a view days finder does not show all Color Label colors. When I select either yellow or green it is selected, but it does not show in the file list with details, I can see it in icon and 3 pane view, but not in the detail list view.
does anybody know why or how? Or what plist files I might need to delete to get this reset?

Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your labels work in that User acct in list view? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.
