Finder - audio file info - bitrate, sample rate, etc

Is there a way to find out what bit rate and sample rate an audio file is without opening it in QT and then CMD+I from there?
I don't see detailed info when I get information from Finder. Is a script or anything that will allow me to find this info quickly in Finder?

Works fine here, too. But make sure you´ve ticked the box "Convert audiofile...etc", like M-Dan pointed out.
I tested it and if unchecked the imported file plays at the wrong speed. Amusing at first, but potentionally disastrous.

Does NOT work in repeated tests on my system, and yes, the 'convert audiofile' box is ticked. Wouldn't report it as a bug if it wasn't....
This almost ruined a session of mine and cost me a deadline, but luckily I caught the SNAFU in time and converted the files individually.
Very odd though to hear that it works on some users' systems. How can this be a system specific bug? Are you sure you're dragging files in from the Finder to your arrange page? And Logic converts them? Are we talking 48k files being converted to 44? Or vice versa (44 to 48)?
In my case, it was a 48k session and Logic failed to convert the 44k files I had mistakenly been sent.
Since I've noticed other weirdness (like malfunctioning Apple Loops) at 48k, I still think Logic is less than bullet proof at different sampling rates. Just a hunch though.

Sometimes, while playing back my software instrument songs, I get an intermittent pop-up error message, saying "Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI.  Sample rate 42804 recognized.  Check conflict between Garageband and external device."
(Sometimes the five digit number is different, but remains a five-digit number beginning with "4".)
Simultaneously, the song stops until I press the "Okay" button in the pop-up window.
When I continue to play the song, the sound is jerky and clipped, and the playhead doesn't keep up with the song, and then suddenly jumps to the part of the song currently being played.
There's also a sound of static.
The issue seems to occur whether or not I have my MIDI controller turned on and plugged into my desktop Imac.

  • Ios simulator cannot find resource file in avTouch sample app.

Hi. I am trying to run the sample project avTouch in the iOS Simulator, and it cannot find the sound resource file sample. It compiles OK, launches, and when I click the Play button, it gives these errors in the iOS Simulator:
2011-08-28 14:16:17.454 avTouch[962:6c03] Error '!dat' trying to set the (null) audio devices' sample rate

The file does exist at that location, and I can open it and play it in QuickTime.  I wonder if the path to that location may be the problem.  Is it supposed to use "%20" instead of spaces in the path?  Does the system resolve them into spaces?
I am using MacOS 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro, XCode 4.0.2, and compiling for iPhone 4.3 simulator.
I've programmed a long time in other IDEs, but I'm new to XCode and all the libraries, so I'm probably missing something obvious here.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Additional info.  The app runs and displays the name of the sound file, and also displays the duration of the sound, so I think it is loading the file OK.  It gives the problem when I hit play.  I have a break point in this method, at [p play] below, and it gives the first error at that point.  The second error message is just reporting the result of the first error:

Gb3 or in 10.4.4 they are not being read. this is happening more than once!!!!!!!!!! will tell APPLE

Yes I have the same issue and have had it occur whenever I upgrade and clone my hardrive. Everything else works but random loops are 'lost' from existing songs even when the track is saved as an archive. I am using GB 2 and OS 10.3.9
    I've noted it occurs with
    1) loops that I edit and use just a portion of
    2) loops with filenames longer than 32 characters
I've also noted that while 32+ character named loops appear correctly in the loop browser they do not appear with the full name when dragged into a track. There they appear in the trunicated garbaged ending. Note that this is EXACTLY what long file names look like when viewd in OS 9 which has a 32 character limit. So what does that mean?
I'm just sick of every time I upgrade a hardrive and clone the drive having to check each and every song and then manually tinker with those who suddenly cant find the loops within them. Everything else works so what is breaking in GB?

  • Changing audio recording depth and sample rate in QuickTime Pro?

Last week, I set up QuickTime Pro 7.4.5 to record audio in 24-bit, 48 KHz format -- only now, I can't remember how I did that. I think that I may have used some other software to change the settings of my Mac Pro's built-in sound card. Does anyone know how to do this?
I made several such recordings, just last week, as a test, simply using a microphone plugged directly into my Mac Pro, and using QuickTime Pro as the recording application. During playback of such QuickTime audio files, I can hit <command-i> to see that the recordings are indeed 24-bit, 48 KHz. But now, when I repeat the same process, my QuickTime audio recordings are made with 16-bit resolution, at 44.1 KHz. I remember putting the settings back to those values after my recording session of last week. But I can't remember how I adjusted those settings. Does anyone know how to do that?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your response.
I will use Apple MIDI Setup, as you suggest.
I want to change the sample rate to 48 KHz, as the final destination is DVD and I don't want to convert from 44.1 to 48 and thus suffer a possible loss in quality.
As for bit depth, I want to sample at 24-bit, since I'll be processing the sound afterwards and don't want audible rounding errors during the number "crunching". Afterwards, I'll just drop the eight least significant bits, or perhaps round them up or down (to zero or 256).

  • Need to Import Audio Books at higher sample rates in iTunes 8

    Folks,
In iTunes 7, I could import audio books at 32k mono and they would sound good (after all, it's just someone reading - doesn't need stereo or high sample rate). However, in iTunes 8, for 32k the sound crackles and is distorted. Quality is OK at 64k mono but obviously now the files are twice as big. Am I right in slating the blame to iTunes 8? Is there some way I can use iTunes 7 encoding?

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't try it. To get a non-crackled 32kb mono AAC you have to:
    - Select the AAC Encoder's "Custom..." from the drop-down
    - Change the (stereo) bit rate to 64kbps
    - Leave sample rate on auto
    - Change channels to mono
    - (And most importantly) keep the "optimize for voice" box UNchecked
I tested it several times with different audiobook CDs and settings and it seems that the voice optimization causes mono tracks of any bit rate to be garbled and crackle. Hope that helps!
(And I'm pretty sure OS 10.5.6 is out. Check your Software Update under the Apple menu.)

  • How do I find audio files missing from Mainstage?

Having downloaded mainstage additional content I find a number of wave files are missing. Example Exs24 'Full Strings Legato.exs' audio file KB-L_legato_p_A(hash)1.wav. How can I find and download them?

  • "Cannot Find Audio File", Garageband

    Mac OS X version 10.6.8
    GarageBand 08-Version 4.1.2 ·(248.7)
This is a issue which goes back to 2005 on some forums, and in my case, has just occured. There seems to be thousands of people effected.  After 3 years of using GarageBand for language studies, I'm now afraid to open any file with this software. Some 3 years work potentially lost.
Please don't suggest I upgrade my software. This problem occurs in all versions of Garageband and OSX. I was thinking of buying a new MacPro but so far I could not risk it with this problem unresolved.
When I try to open a file, which up to recently functioned perfectly, I get a message "Audio File Not Found...Skip or Search". Regardless of which option I chose, a file opens but with no audio content.
Below are extracts from some of the solutions I've come accross on Forums.None have worked for me, despite some promising suggestions.
For instance I don't have "Working Copies" file on my computer.
Any comments from Apple would be appreciated.
    Extracts from some previous Contributions
    1. Quit GarageBand.
    2. Goto /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Working Copies
    3. Delete the Guitar Lesson 2_Chords - G, C
    4. Start GarageBand up and enjoy Lesson 2.
If i had to guess i would say it looks like there is a cache created when you start a lesson and it must be easily corrupted.
It may have happened to me by having a download interrupted and I tried to run the Lesson anyway. Or perhaps trying to run the lesson mid download, i believe i may have tried that too in my impatience waiting for the Lesson. Either of those scenarios i could envision creating a corrupt "working copy."
You went to the Library file path that is in your user folder. You must go to Macintosh HD and go to the main Library folder and follow the path Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Garageband/Learn to Play. Then you can delete the lessons you don't want.

Re: garageband saying "audio file not found"

Hm. Saving the project might have actually killed your recording. The only way to get back to your audio clips is: locate your project in the finder, ctrl-click it, select "Show Package Content", and look into the Media folder. If the folder is empty, I'm afraid the recordings are gone for good.

    Edi,
there is something completely wrong. You should see the following options:
Does your song project show with the Guitar icon and the filename extension "band"?
And does it say "Kind: GarageBand project", when you select the package in the Finder?

  • Maximum Bitrate/Sample Rate?

What is the maximum bitrate and sample rate(44.1/48k) that can be read by my iPod? Does it depend on whether I use mp3 or aac encoding? Can I use variable bit rate (VBR)? If I can use a 48k sample rate, would that mean using a smaller bitrate?

Thank you, that article was helpful, but it did not say what bitrates could be used with AAC. MP3 is from 32 Kbps to 320 Kbps, can I use 320 Kbps for AAC too? What about sample sizes for WAV and AIFF?

  • Finding audio files.

I inadvertedly saved some audio files to the desk top. When I put them in the right folder and went back to the song it asked where are the files? How do you tell Logic to look in a diffrent place to find them?

Open the Project Manager and either add the path to its search paths, or have it do an extended search. That should aid Logic in finding your audio files.

  • FCP 6 with M-audio fastrack pro and sample rates

hello, having a weird problem in FCP 6.02 under OS X 10.4.11 on a MacPro where if i record a voiceover through my m-audio fastrack at 48khz, which matches the sequence and project settings, it comes back at the wrong sample rate (plays back higher pitch), but if i record it at 44.1 it sounds right. any ideas on this?
    thanks in advance
    david

Perhaps the M-Audio is still recording at 44.1, and FCP is set to convert the audio to 48k, but is unable to resample as it would with an analog source. I would try to access the control panel for the M-Audio box and see if you can get it to force its sample rate to 48k outside of FCP. If so, you can probably get FCP to record correctly at 48k. If not, you might be better off just letting it record in 44.1, and maybe batch exporting later to upconvert.
    Hope this helps -

  • Can't find audio file

    Hello-
Using Logic 8 here on OS 10.5.8. I'm working on one project on two computers (at work during the day, and at home, during the night). While working I'm adding audio files to the project (audio files are being copied into the audi file folder for the project). However, when I move the project (with the entire folder, I mean copy the entire project folder including audiofiles to the other computer), when I open the project up on the new computer, I always get an error message saying that it can't find the new audio I had added while working on the other computer. The problem is, it changes the name of the files it wants... what happens is while working on computer 1 I add a file called "car" to the arrange and the file car is in the audio folder. Everything seems fine. However when I open the project up on the new computer (having copied the new "car" file as well) when it opens it says that it can't find the file called "car#F2EAE"... a file which I cannot find existing ANYWHERE on either computer (computer 1 or 2)... when I try to manually link the file "car" to "car#F2EAE" I get different results, usually something is changed, or I get an "invalid region" error and the audio file wont link. Does anybody have any idea what this is? I mean if I did something like timestrech the "car" file and it would create a new file then I could understand that, but still I copy ALL of the files that Logic is creating... it doesn't seem to be throwing any files anywhere else... I really don't understand. Any ideas why this is? The only big difference I can see is that the work computer is power PC imac and my home is an Intel Mac Pro... but still they run the same versions of the OS and Logic.

You have fallen victim to the atavism of Logic: it cannot handle filenames longer than 31 characters, it will rename those files in the style of your example. I bet the file was named carspeedingdownemptyhighwayandbraking.wav or something like that...
Sadly, the only way to avoid it is to keep filenames shorter than 31 characters.
There have been quite a lot of rants about this. And rightly so. It is a major omission that this restriction from the days of 40MB harddisks is still there.
    regards, Erik.

  • Open an audio file and get sampled data

    Hello,
there is a way to open an audio file and get an array with sampled data in Java?
I need to perform an fft of my audio file.
    Best Regard
    Manuel

    Dear Mr Thompson,
this is my first post on this topic.
I have already tried various way to get samples from audio file, in particular I focused my attention on this:
    http://jvalentino2.tripod.com/dft/index.html
I have implemented the code illustrated in the tutorial but the result is unsatisfactory. If I try to plot the samples of obtained from a pure tone the result is not the expected waveform but something very different, a Fourier analysis of this data is completely useless. Hence I am looking for a way to read data in a similar manner to the matlab's function auread (http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk_r13/help/techdoc/ref/auread.html).
Fft is not really hard to implement but I'm using a scientific library (http://www.ee.ucl.ac.uk/~mflanaga/java/) for obtain values in frequency space.
    I apologize for the inaccuracies.
    Regards

  • Logic Can't Find Audio Files After a Time Machine Restore

My hard drive crashed so I was forced to restore by using Time Machine. Now when I open some of my old projects they cannot find certain Audio FIles. These Audio Files seem to be files not ordinarily found in the Audio Files Folder inside the project folder, these files have the same names as the "Undo Data" Folders. These files are not physically there when I search the older backups in Time Machine. Im assuming that these are Virtual files created by Logic within the Undo Data. How do I get them to become recognized again???
    Please Help!

"audiofile.caf" means an audio file (surprise!) in Core Audio Format. IOW, a generic term for anything you might like to deal with in Logic. The implication is that it thinks you want to do something with a file (it understands you are attempting a drag-&-drop operation), but it doesn't know anything about the file — not even its name.
There are other ways to get audio files into your arrangement, so you should try those ( e.g.: +Audio > Import Audio File+ ). Drag-&-drop is just one method; the others are equally good, & if they work, we can take it from there. Meanwhile — you are sure you are dragging the actual file, & not an alias? Or some other 'not-the-actual-file' type thing?

  • File Info (Subject,Title, Author etc) are not converted to PDF

    Hi,
We have a RTF file that contains values updated in File Info section (File>Properties in over versions of MS Word). We need these information also to be part of the PDF output in BI Publisher. Unfortunately BI Publisher seems to strip off these information while generating the PDF output.
I have turned on the "Accessibility Mode" and also update the properties section
"Enable text access for screen readers" - True
"Enable copying of text, images, and other content" - True
    Has anyone faced this issue?

Got confirmation from SupportWeb that accessibility is available only for HTML outputs.
