Finder Backgrounds Require the Image on the Computer

I've had a particular folder on my computer with a background for quite a while now, I actually posted here about setting that up.
Anyways, in going through moving some stuff around so there's not so much reandom stuff in my Documents folder, I decided it would be a lovely idea to move that image to my Dropbox, as I have a tendency to just chuck stuff there if I don't know where it should be at the moment.
Anyways, I do this and, being the one to check on things like this, I go to the folder and the background is gone.
Is there a way to keep the background in a folder without keeping the image in one place, or at all?

Hi Timothy,
The image has to exist in some folder somewhere to show as a background in the Finder window that you choose to display it in. If you are trying to keep things orderly, perhaps create a folder in Pictures called Backgrounds for example, and keep all of your background images there.

  • I photo pics are in album, but need to upload from add item page on etsy.  Cannot find where the pics are in my computer.  I did put a name on each one.  What is the best way to save an individual pic to be able to find it on the computer so as to upload?

I have an online etsy shop.  There is a page on which to list a new item to be added to one's shop.  When it is time to upload the pic or pics, I cannot find them, eventhough each has a name and all are in an i photo album.  On my old computer I would "save as" and then could find it easily in my computer.  In the new mac I just got, I cannot easily find the pic when trying to upload.  Could you tell me an easy way to save each pic so that I can find it for uploads to that site?  Thanks in advance. OS is Snow Leopard. Whatever i photo came with that would be the product I am using.

The following is from a post by Terence Devlin on accessing photos for use outside of iPhoto.  It's the definitive treatise on the subject.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation   which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3.Show File:
    a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    b. On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Finding music on the computer

My husband has filled his imac with music and has no room left for anything -- programs crash, the system freezes and can't be updated. I bought him a 120 GB firewire hard drive to move his music to, but he's stored it in so many different places over the years, he's having trouble moving it all to this external storage. Any ideas out there on an efficient, quick way to accomplish this?
BTW, I've linked his ITunes to this external drive and moved about 4,000 songs to it....

The most straightforward thing that I can think of is to use Spotlight to find all the .mp3 files in the home folder. You could then pick these up and copy them onto a temporary folder on the new drive (and then delete them from their original hiding places).
Once they are on that drive, I suggest you use the import option in iTunes to organise them into the library. (You should then delete the temporary folder.)
NOTE: before you do the steps in the last paragraph, ensure that you have "Keep the iTunes Music Folder Organised" and "Copy files to iTunes music folder ..." options in the Advanced tab of iTunes' preferences CHECKED.

  • Quick Question - Find background colour of image?

    Hi guys,
Its been years since I've used Photoshop, and I'm just trying out the Photoshop CS5 atm (a lot different from the simple PS7 that I was used to!) I've got an image that I want to find the background colour for, as I want to fill it to other images. I remember on the old versions if you erased an area the foreground colour would immediately just turn to the colour that you have deleted, but not anymore - I'm stuck!
Any help, hope I've explained myself well!
    > Incidently, is there anyway I could purchase an old version of Photoshop? I'm a very infrequent user, and even the latest Elements software is pretty steep £50+. I'd happily pay a few pounds for Photoshop 7.
    thanks

I don't believe you're remembering a true difference in the Eraser Tool.
With all versions of Photoshop, when you are working on the Background layer if you use the Eraser Tool it will paint in the color you have selected for the background swatch.
With all the versions as well, if you're working on a true layer the Eraser Tool clears pixels to transparent.
    Now...
If you use the Delete key, on the other hand, the operation becomes equivalent to Edit - Fill, and in the newest versions you're given a dialog with options.  There are modifier keys with which you can avoid the dialog.

  • Remove finder backgrounds in OS X Lion

How can I remove a finder background from the view options in Finder?  The background options are grayed out and I can't click on white or color or picture.  I'd like to go back to a basic white or color background.

The only way I found to fix this is to save a white background at high res, then drag it to the small square to change the background. Problem solved ! ! !
If you want to change it to any color go to another folder other that " all files " and select what you want.
    Good luck.

  • I cannot get my preferred images to remain on the desktop.  Through preferences I choose an image and it disappears each time I turn the computer off: why?  And how can I stop this?

When I go to 'desktop' in system preferences and choose an image for the desktop, it disappears when I turn the computer off.  Why is this?  And how can I get an image to remain until I choose to change it?  It acts this way whether I click 'change' or not.

If you log in automatically, a known bug will cause the desktop picture to revert to the default image of a galaxy at every startup. The only workaround is to disable automatic login in the Users & Groups preference pane.
If the desktop picture always reverts to a plain blue background, one of your login items may be causing the problem. The "Team Viewer" application has this effect, as reported by ASC user Zimmerwald. If it's not that in your case, rule out all other third-party login items as possible causes.
According to one report, a "stuck" desktop picture setting can be fixed by changing the setting and then immediately rebooting. I can't confirm, but there's no harm in trying it.
If none of the above applies to you, proceed as follows.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

My MacBook Pro stated that it needed to be updated. I clicked yes to restart the computer and update but when it restarted it stays on the gray screen with the apple logo and then pops up, stating "unable to find driver for this platform." What do I do?

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective.

  • In my Macbook Pro finder folder under All Images, there are duplicate files, but one is small and the other is full size. I wanted to clean up the files, but don't know why I have two of everything. Any Ideas?

In my Macbook Pro, the Finder folder has duplicate images in the 'all images' file. One image is small and the other is full size. First question is why do I have two of every image? Why is one small and the other large. Do I need two of everything? If not, which do I delete?
    thanks, Jean

    Hello fane,
    Re: duplicate images in finder.
Nearly all images are JPG with a few GIF and PNG sprinkled in.
I opened the inspector so I do get info when opening each image, but it a slow process.
It seems that one image is around 70k while its twin can be up to 4Mb which is what comes unedited from my camera. Sometimes there will be 3 or 4 identical images in finder, but when I open iPhoto to see what ‘s really in the file, I find only one image, and it’s full sized.
Are all these extra images, even if they are aliases, taking up space on my drive? And should I delete them? The info bar says I have over 10,000 images, which is rather a lot  for what I do.
I am unable to add the file size on the view menu as it is grayed out. Don’t know why it’s gray, but having that info on the screen would save a lot of time and fiddling with each image.
I am trying to resize selected pix so I can upload them to e-bay, which requires less than 70k. I have looked at resizing programs but most are for PC platform and not Mac, so I am trying to resize in the finder window under tools. Tedious at best. Any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks for your help,

  • I rented a movie on my computer and transferred it to my ipad mini and can't find it on the mini even though it shows that it is there when I look on the computer.  It is not in my video app on the mini.  Where can I find it to watch?

I rented a movie on my computer and transferred it to my iPad mini.  I see it was purchased on my computer in my account and the charges for it and can even see where it is on my iPad on the computer but can't find it on the iPad itself.  It is not in Videos.  I have this problem every time I rent movies and somehow I eventually find it but I don't know how it eventually gets on the iPad.  I'm leaving on a trip and want to watch it on the way.

You move the movie from iTunes to iPad (tap to enlarge image)
Movie will be moved to the Videos app.

  • I dropped my iphone, it cracked (it alredy had some cracks in it) and the screen is black but sometimes has a background light.. When i plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not recognize it. What can I do?

I dropped my iphone 4 pretty hard, it cracked (although it already had a few cracks in it) and now the screen is black but sometimes has a background light turn on and then off. Holding the home button and off button at the same time do not work. When I plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not seem to recognize it. It gets really really hot when plugged in (which I don't think is normal).  icloud does not recognize it under "find my iphone" either. What could the problem be? I am wondering if dropping it dislodged something inside. if so, what did I dislodge and is it possible to fix this myself?
    Thanks

Sounds like that drop was a critical one, my friend. I would make an appointment at your nearest Apple Retail Store, because you're going to need a replacement. Also as a side note: the reason that the charger is making the phone vibrate over and over is because there is a disconnect somewhere in the charge port of the phone, causing it to plug in and out over and over.

    2) Individually named iPads for locating and sending commands to wipe, lost mode, etc.. on map per Find my iOS device (we uniquely name them in Apple Configurator either by using the "sequensetially numbering feature", or by creating individual back ups (yes, 450) with the name specified in the image).
    3) Find my iOS device feature enabled in base Prepared or Supervised image (using one of our 5+ iCloud accounts) (image can be created during prepared stage, or in supervised stage) - tried both and have the same issue - which I am getting to...
    4) VPP codes for paid apps (all VPP codes purchased with generic account which is the Apple Admin account for VPP purchases). Apple Configurator is set up under a different/ unique Apple account (i.e. not VPP admin account) and not logged into iTunes for any purchases/ services).
    Issue: Can not do any following senarios;
    A)
         1) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Prepare stage (added during preparing stage)
         2) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Supervised stage (added after supervising, and then backing up that supervised and iOS Find my iOS device enabled)

Result = fail with Apple generic code "4" ; This is obviously due to Find my iOS device feature enabled during image capture.
According to Apple (see Apple Config. Help) the 'Activation lock' (new feature in iOS 7) will not be enabled on a supervised device when an iCloud account with "Find my iDevice" is enabled. Their "help files" seem to imply after the device is Supervised, and a person (presumably and end user) adds thier own iCloud account with Find my iOS device enabled the activation lock is not enabled and erasing/ reconfiguring with Apple Configurator will not cause reimaging probhlems such as requiring the end user's credentials to reconfigure the device using Apple Configurator (i.e. you won't need the end user's credentials).
Needed: To be able to configure Supervised iPads with iCloud account (Enterprised owned iCloud account) configured on the basse image, which has Find my iOS device enabled, and to be able to apply that base image to all Enterprise iPads without generic apple error code 4 issue.

    Hi all
I am trying to replicate these steps in my environment but I am having trouble getting an iCloud backup restored to a supervised device. Can someone clarify the steps? The parts I am unsure on are:
    1) Do you Prepare in Configurator with all the institution owned apps? Or do you install them after restoring the iCloud backup?
    2) After entering the personal AppleID to restore the iCloud backup, the setup wizard prompts for the Institution/Configurator AppleID, there is an option to 'Skip Now'. Do you enter in the password for the institution account? or do you skip that step?
    3) What exactly is on the screen in the 'mini setup assistant' after the restore when you Refresh with Configurator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You also have functions that are never used and the body code doe snot look for users.

That can sometimes be caused by a damaged ipod photo cache.
If you remove the current ipod photo cache, does that get you past the error?
