Finder Causing Application to Crash

Hi All,
I'm having a problem when using the Finder to select files whilst in an application. For example, when trying to navigate my way to a file, the Finder window opens momentarily but then vanishes, but the application still behaves in a way that suggests the window is still open as I am unable to use any of the applications functions.
When clicking on the main body of the application (Safari, for example), it does a clicking noise which it would usually do when you click outside of the Finder. The only way I can exit the application is to Force Quit and start again, but this does not always fix it. At present it's happening about 1 in 4 times, which is incredibly frustrating.
It did the same today when trying to add a folder to my iTunes library, so I'm fairly sure this is not application specific.
Any help is very much appreciated.

After you have that under your belt, try the technique I outlined in previous post to see "all app windows" when this occurs.

  • Save as pdf causes application to crash

I have done a clean install of Lion OSX on several computers (imac & mbp).  Each of them has Adobe 9.x installed.  I have all updates for osx and Adobe but keep having the same problem on all systems.
When I am in any application and choose "Print" then choose "Save As PDF" the application will crash before presenting the Save As dialog box.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Bill

I am still having this problem and it's quite annoying.  Does anyone have any help they can offer?  Please?
    Thank you!

  • Find Causes of Database Crash

    Hello,
I have a database which my developers use for dev/test purposes.
This database stops running almost daily - I just restart the service (we're on Windows) and it works ok - but only for a day or so.
How can I investigate the cause of the crash? I tried looking in:
bdump\alert_mydatabase.log and various .trc files, but I couldnt see anything related to a crash, just messages for when I stopped/started the service.
    What else could I check?
    Thanks!
    Chris.

    Hi,
The oracle version is 10g, specifically 10.2.0
The first alerts from today are:
    Wed Oct 10 09:25:27 2007
    Starting background process EMN0
    EMN0 started with pid=63, OS id=5508
    Wed Oct 10 09:25:27 2007
Shutting down instance: further logons disabled
    Wed Oct 10 09:25:28 2007
    Stopping background process CJQ0
    Wed Oct 10 09:25:28 2007
    ... more
Which matches the time which I manually stopped the service in windows.
Also, the listener service remained OK throughout the instance crash.
I can provide more of the log if that helps - are there any other files to check?
    Thanks again

  • Pressing num-lock keys causes applications to crash

I have a problem with the standard Apple USB keyboard. If I press any key on the num lock pad all my applications crash. It really doesn´t matter if it is e.g. Quark, Mail or any other application.
    Need some help.
    Kind regards,
    Markus

    hey Tobsel,
as far as i know, there should not be any issues if that process is killed. However, your num lock key may or may not work sporadically.
For which ThinkVantage software has it, it is both the Power Management as well as the Hotkeys

  • Vmwsci.dll causing applications to crash

I'm testing View Horizon 6.0 and have come up with a weird issue.
My VMs applications (Internet Explorer, Media Player, ....) keep crashing when I close them stating that the Application stopped working.
In Windows event viewer Application log and Event ID 1000 is raised, stating the application crashed trying to unload the module vmwsci.dll
Looking at the vmwsci.dll, it is from VMware .  Description states that is VMware Horizon View Agent PCoIP Smart Cart Interception DLL.
The thing is that when I installed the agent, I didn't install the smart card portion of the agent, so why is the dll still installed?
Also, if I rename the dll. to vmwsci.dll.000, the VM works perfectly fine.
    any Ideas?

I am having the very same problem, except with View Agent 5.3.1 on Windows 8.1.  Same event ID, same .dll, though in my case it only happens once I install the Smart Card option for the Agent.  If I rename vmwsci.dll or uninstall the Agent, the desktop returns to normal.
Other symptoms: background image is removed (Themes service fails); all applications in Start menu are removed; network login fails, will cause file explorer to crash if attempting to access a network share location; most services fail (WMI, Windows Update, RDC, User Profile Service, BiTS, Computer Browser, IpSec, etc. etc.).  Basically Event Viewer gets blown up with errors.
Anyone else come across this issue?

  • Drop-down menu on dialog windows causes applications to crash

    Hi,
My applications have started crashing when I use the Open and Save dialogs. I haven't installed any new applications, but my MBP crashed last night when shutting down, so that might have something to do with it.
For example, if I'm using Office 2004 and choose [Open..] then try to locate a folder using the lower of the two drop-down menus (the one which defaults to 'Microsoft'), the program freezes for a second or so, then crashes with a 'Report Problem for Word' error window. The same problem occurs on all of my applications.
If I choose [Open..] and try to locate a file using the disk icons on the left-hand side of the dialog, then click on folders to burrow down into the computer, the dialog works quite normally.
I've reapplied the 10.4.10 update but that didn't produce a fix. I've fixed permissions, cleared caches and done the usual things, but nothing seems to fix it.
I then created a new user account and tried performing the same actions, this time everything worked as expected. So it looks like there is a preference in my personal user account somewhere that has become corrupted. But I have no clue what it could be.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?
    Many thanks,
    Mike.

  • Finder causes After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 to crash

Basically when attempting to import files into either After Effects or Premiere Pro the Finder causes them to crash.  I'm not sure
if it's the Movies folder specifically thats causing it, but I'm unable to find out for sure because the Movies folder is the default
folder that comes up when I try to import.  Any ideas here? I'm stumped.

What version of MacOS are you running?
If you are on Snow Leopard, you need to be on 10.6.2 or later.

  • Printing causes Office 2013 applications to crash

We’ve a fresh installed Windows 8 Pro and Office 2013. Printing works correctly in every application but Office 2013.
Word, Excel, Outlook … printing causes the application to crash.
Any idea if this is a known issue?
    Regards.
    Peter
Peter Van Keymeulen, IT Infrastructure Solution Architect, www.edeconsulting.be

This is the answer that fixes the problem every time, based on my experience and that of others. It works for both the 32 & 64-bit versions of Windows (I'm one of those odd ducks who runs 32-bit Windows 8.1 Professional and it worked perfectly for me).
The problem is not Windows, either 7 or 8, it's Office 2013 and a variety of unique HP LaserJet printers.  By the way, the glitch occurs whether you use networked printing or a USB cable; I discovered that early-on when I
was trying to troubleshoot the issue.  Also (and it should go without saying), always reboot the computer after you make the change to the driver.  Thanks to Shane, who apparently was the first one to discover the solution over a year ago, right
after Office 2013 came out and the problem manifested itself.
After lots of testing I have found a setting that has fixed all my HP CP5520 and HP M4555 printers that were crashing when printing from Office 365's 2013 pro plus.
It's the driver setting in Device settings -> Installable options -> Printer Status notification, this needs to be disabled.
I hope this also fixes other peoples problems.

  • Printing causes Application Crashes

    Hi,
I have a Macbook that I hook up to my Lexmark 5300 series printer via USB to print. The problem is that when I print (PDF or Document) it causes my application to crash. It does not even bring up the print option dialogue box. This includes Adobe Reader (Professional and Version 9), Preview, any Office program. I thought it might be the default PDF printer, so I deleted that. The only printer in the queue is the Lexmark. Is there anything else I should try?
I am able to print from InDesign oddly enough, but it isn't a PDF it's a .indd format.
    Thank you!

    Updated drivers are a wonder.

  • I recently upgraded to Lion and i find that my computer is running slow and applications are crashing.  For example I have Word 2011 for Mac and it crashes all the time I end up losing my work.  It often happens when I'm in notebook trying to record.

i recently upgraded to Lion and i find that my computer is running slow and applications are crashing.  For example I have Word 2011 for Mac and it crashes all the time I end up losing my work.  It often happens when I'm in class using notebook and when I press record my computer starts thinking and it freezes.
Also, I feel that it overheats often and my battery runs out pretty quickly.  I had the macbook (black) and this never happened before.  I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if there is something with my computer.I bought my computer summer 2010, I don't think this should be happening. Please Help......

This is exactly what keeps happening to mine too.  I was at a conference taking notes, and I was
using the Notebook template, and doing some audio recording simultaneously.  About 3 hours into the conference (not consistently recording, but on and off with the sessions) my file wouldn't save anymore, saying something like "File cannot be modified while in use with another program" and "Invalid file name" when I would go back into my folder to look for it). I tried installing some updates from Microsoft, and when I restarted, I was at least able to open my old notes again, and so far it looks like the audio was working.  However, today at the conference, the same thing happened again, but I wasn't actively recording any audio (though after I had copy and pasted my second file of notes into the original, I went back to using it after re-naming it).
Does the crash happen to you under similar cirucumstances?  The update might help a little, but it is definitely not the solution.  Does anyone have any solutions?  Lion shouldn't be this buggy... I moved to Mac to get away from the garbage of bugs and compatibility issues...

  • Calling RfcClose() while handle in use causes my C++ application to crash

    Hi!
I was hoping someone here could help me with this. I am using librfc32u.dll in my application. My application invokes RFCs on SAP, using the SDK function RfcCallReceiveEx(). At times, this call takes too long, so, from another thread, I do a RfcClose() on the connection handle.
Nearly all the time this seems to work (i.e., it successfully cancels the execution). But a couple of times I have seen that it causes my application to crash.
I wanted to know whether such a programming approach is allowed or not.
    Thanks,
    Mustansir
P.S. If this is not the appropriate forum for this question, please help me out and let me know where i should redirect this question to. Thanks.

    Hi,
The reason to crash may be because of time out happens due to more processing time. This may be because of resource consumption or process load etc.
For this you can try out with increasing relavent SAP system parameters with the help of SAP BASIS.
    Now, btw, are u connecting a C++ application into SAP ?? ,
Even you can post this in this thread: may be useful: Java
    SAP NetWeaver Application Server
    Hope this helps,
    Rgds,
    Moorthy

  • Finder not showing "Applications" directory, crashing on accessing or calculating size

After upgrading my MacBook Pro LAte 2012 to Yosemite I found that
    - I see no applications in "Applications" anymore - but they exist as I can run them.
    - getting "Information" on the directory will crash the Information window after about 5sec.
    - copying something into "Application" will crash the Finder.
    - also from time to time the finder restarts itself (crashes).
I did CMD-R on bootup went to the disc repair and repaired the accessrights - no solution to my problem
I did sudo mdutil -E / - still no "applications" show up in the directory
Maybe someone gets information from my CrashLog - that is full with "deny" and "com.apple.security...." problems:

    Did a Clean Install now.
Createt a new adminuser first - Applications show no Icons in Icon view - when switching to list view I can see the programs.
My MacBook Pro also shows that there are 1,9GB in 50 applications
So I use the migration assistant and reinstalled my profile from the last time machine backup.
But its still the same problem here - nothing is shown withn the Applications directory - neither Icon view nor list view.
The only difference now is - that Information now shows that there are "1.9GB used by 0 applications" - instead of "0 bytes used by 0 applications" as before.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac open recent File menu option causing AFP to crash

    Hi all,
We have an Xserve running Mac OS X Server Leopard 10.5.8. The Xserve hosts three file shares for about 60 users. Our network is 99% Mac based running mostly 10.5.8 with a few 10.6.x. We have historically over the past several years had the AFP service become unreliable and crash frequently. Late last week the AFP service crashes constantly. The quick solution to getting it up and running is to delete the AFP.conf file in /etc.
We have troubleshot one cause of AFP crashing to the Open Recent... File menu option in Microsoft Office for Mac applications. That is, through some amount (haven't been able to narrow it down to how much) of opening documents on the share via the Open Recent menu the AFP service will crash.
Here's what's happening in the AppleFileServer .crash file:
    Process: AppleFileServer [26065]

Our solution is to have all our users turn off the open recent option in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Not an ideal solution but it may get the AFP service running "good enough."
Has anyone had an experience like this before or can anyone duplicate the AFP service crashing when trying to open documents on a share via the open recent menu? Any other ideas?
    Thanks

    Update.
I have been able to consistently reproduce a problem where the AFP service will crash if a file that a user has an alias to is moved to a folder and the user is denied access to .
    1. On your Mac create an alias to a file or folder, that you have access to, that is stored on a share served via AFP. The alias can be in the Places section of a Finder window, on the Desktop, or anywhere an alias can be created. Lets call what the alias points to the target.
    2. Move the target to a folder on the AFP share and deny the user or group Read & Write access to that folder.
    3. Try accessing the target via the alias created in step 1.
    The AFP service should crash.
Can anyone reproduce this crash scenario too?

  • Web Application suddenly crash (Citrix is not Responding, Citrix stoped Working) - Windows Update Dec 2014

After the distribution of the latest windows update on Dec 2014 we started to face irregular behavior with our Citrix ICA Client V12 which is used to connect to our online applications. The web application suddenly crash and windows provides an error message
as below. The event viewer shows the below log.
We suspect that it was duo to Windows update, we have tried this fix (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3025390) but with no luck.
    Any help is appreciated.

We have tried to also to run (System File Checker) SFC /Scannow to check if there are any issue with the system files as outlined in the event log. But there was no problem returned with the checker.
I have extracted the below Windows Error Reporting WER file when the ICA client crash. Can we analyze the data as we might find the cause,
