Finder close button missing
Hi All,
Upgraded to Yosemite, now the finder red, yellow and green close/ minimise buttons are missing.
I can still close this by clicking where they should be.
Is this me or have Apple gave us another dud OS?
Hello Mathias,
for the close-button we are using a WD ABAP API to determine
whether to activate the close button or not.
The note #1234843 has been published by WD ABAP to classify in
which situation the close functionality should be available and
when not. The change that has been made with the last transports to the
EhP4 systems - the only change with the close functionality is that
the close button won't be displayed in FPM standalone-applications
anymore.
They have done this because of negative side effects in standalone mode when closing the window.
Best regars,
Julia

Maximize Minimize Close buttons missing
Using Firefox 3.6.10 with Ubuntu. Maximize, minimize, and close buttons seem to have disappeared. Went to View and Navagation is checked. Also went to customize to reset to original. Neither have worked. Buttons are still not there.
F11 key - I hit it once and it cured the problem.

I seem to have a problem which I just can't figure out. I don't see any previous comments on this. I am using OS X .4.9. Not long after my update I noticed that the buttons at the top of every Finder window had disappeared. That includes the Next, Previous, and all the view buttons. I am also missing the eject buttons next to drives in the side bar. Sometimes the drives in the sidebar disappear.
I have trashed the preferences for the Finder. I have repaired permissions. I have rebuilt the directory with Disk Warrior. I reinstalled 10.4.9 with the combo installer. I replaced preferences with my backup. Every time I try one of these I get everything back but eventually they disappear again.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Thanks MJ,
I actually thought of that as well. I didn't do a safe boot but I did look in my login items and I removed one that I did not recognize. The others were ones I have had for a long time so I didn't think they would be causing any problems. No menubar hacks of any kind.
Thanks for the reply. I will try the safe boot just to see what happens. The biggest problem is that is keeps clearing up after I change something, then things start disappearing later.
I should also mention that it seems to only affect my regular work account which is not an administrative account. When I have logged into my administrative account I have not seen this happen but I may not have been in it long enough. It's hard to tell when it happens over time rather than a constant immediate problem. So I have only been working with the Library files in that one account.

Missing maximize, minimize and close buttons
I see that people have been having problems with these issues before the finalized FF4, I have the most updated version on my PC. The answers all seem to say it was a problem with beta versions. When I stay online for long periods of time my full screen, minimize and close buttons disappear. I have 2 screens and have found that when I pull a tab to the other screen the buttons reappear with that tab. But all the tabs still on previous screens are still missing. If I pull the whole set of tabs (opened together) I still can not get the buttons to reappear. when I am ready to close all the open tabs at once I use task manager and close down FF4. Right now I see my background screen where the button should be.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br>Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

You can also try a different Windows theme. -
Ever since I installed the latest Firefox update, the minimize, restore, and close buttons are visually missing, though their functions are still present.
I have also started to have one of those dialog boxes asking whether or not I would like to allow a program to make changes to my PC come up when I open Firefox.Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
* Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
* "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator. -
I have had sound problems when viewing facebook and youtube and thought it may be a plugin problem. I don't know much about computers and stumble my way through like now so simple instruction are required please.
Hello,
On the right side of your browser, below the window close button [X], should be three horizontal lines.
* Menu
* Exit is on the bottom right corner of the menu that opens
If you still cannot see it, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*Assuming you have your menu bar visible, go to "Help" > "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Search page edit button missing save & close
On my Search Center page, When I click Edit Page, the button on ribbon is missing the Save & Close button.
Any ideas?forgot to mention, there is this error that pops up when I hover over the Edit button:
"This control is currently disabled. You might not have the right permission level to use this, you might need to select an object or item, or the control might not work in this context."
I am a farm administration and site collection administrator so I know I have the permissions.
I am trying to edit the Search Center page, but since the "Save" option is missing, it won't save my changes. -
Modal dialog missing the close button
My AI extension (CS6) is set to be a ModalDialog (from the Bundle Manifest Editor UI Window Type). It displays as a dialog correctly, but there is no close button in the title bar. Is this something that needs to be done in code or am I missing something else?
I don't mind adding my own close button in the dialog if I need to, but it seems the title bar close button should be there.Modal Dialogs have no close button.
You need to add it yourself.

Hi all, I've downloaded the latest Lightbox Gallery from Dreamweaver exchange and was able to make some changes on my own, but still far from being an expert at scripting...HELP!
Everything worked fine locally, but when I uploaded it to my web host/s FTP, the prev, next and close buttons did not show up.
In firebox, they just don't show. In Safari, it shows "?" where the close button should show.
I checked the FTP and the images are all there.
Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
My website address is:

ThanxIt appears you didn't upload a whole folder. The "lightbox" folder inside the "images" folder does not seem to be there. Try uploading the files again.

Close Button in OIF is missing
Hello
Unfortunately we don't see any CLOSE button in an OIF application. Our test applications don't define the parameter FPM_HIDE_CLOSE. Therefore we don't have a glue why the close button is not displayed. Did something change within FPM?

I've been able to make a quicktime skin without a problem. I've even been able to get play, stop, fast foward, rewind, ect buttons to work. The one thing I can't figure out and have not been able to find info on is, how to get the close button to close the quicktime skin. I know it's mostlikly something stupid I'm missing...
I'm using Quicktime pro 7, Flash MX, Photoshop and GoLive 6.
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)Thanks for the suggestions.
The link to the close.mov works but how? Thats what I would like to know.
In my orig post I should have mention that I can get the quicktime move made in Flash to close, but I don't want to be limited on compressors...
I guess my new question would be how would I code a close button using quicktime or GoLive for to put it all together.
Thanks again for the help... -
No Close button on add-ons window
I am currently running Firefox 3.6.10 (latest version) and I've noticed that the "close" button is now missing from the lower right hand side of the add-ons window. There used to be 2 buttons; "Find Updates" and "Close". The "Close" button is missing.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I have been using FF for a while now. My main computer was WinXP-32, though I recently bought a new laptop with Win7-64 installed. This problem was never experienced on my WinXP machine.
Brief description of problem:
After a time of having FF up and running, the minimize/maximize/restore/close buttons in the top-right no longer work as expected and, if not maximised, I cannot move the window around my desktop nor resize the browser window. When clicked, the buttons will
rapidly flash on and off continuously without appearing to perform any noticeable function other than temporarily hogging CPU cycles. I've found that clicking (sometimes double clicking) in the main browser window then mousing over the buttons again seems
to stop them flashing, though does nothing else.
To minimize/maximize/restore/move/close the window(s), I have to right-click on the relevant tab in my taskbar and pick the desired option. Occasionally, however, even this doesn't work and the right-click menu will disappear as soon as I move the mouse
over it after right-clicking. 'Show desktop' is a temporary fix for minimising windows and 'ALT + F4' or 'CTRL + W' for closing windows or tabs. This isn't satisfactory and to move or resize a window, I have to close the window in question (sometimes all other
windows too), reopen it and do what I need to do, though sometimes even this is only a very short fix. If I have to close all the windows, FF will sometimes keep running for a while afterwards, even though no windows are actually open - simply ending the process
via the windows task manager will fix this though is only a work-around, not a fix.
One thing I have noticed is that if I manage to move the browser window (when not maximised), for a short period afterwards I can often resize the window successfully. This is more likely to occur if the browser window is not flush with the edge of my screen
once moved.
I've tried to include as much information as I can - most of which was determined after several minutes/hours of playing around with different scenarios, trying to manually reproduce particular problems or simply through sheer luck of happening to click
in the right place at the right time! I hope there is a reasonably fix for this at some point in the not-too-distant future.
I noticed in some of the threads at another site where people have voiced problems similar to mine, that a link to 'ObjectDock' was discovered in some cases. I do have 'ObjectDock 1.90 Plus' installed on my machine and use it in many ways and so decided
to see if I could find a connection between the two. I have uninstalled, tested, and reinstalled both programs in a multitude of ways, though could find no conclusive correlation between having both bits of software running or installed at the same time and
the problems I am experiencing. In my case, at least, this does not appear to be an answer.
Also, in another thread on this site, someone suggested there might be a link with AVG Anti-Virus Free (I have version 9.0.819) though I've tried uninstalling it and its various add-ons in several different combinations, with no noticeable improvement.
Sorry for such a long question... If you need to know anything more, just let me know!
- James

You can also check if the issue occurs in
Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
Besides, uninstall it and re-download
a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

Safari 5.1.2 Tab Close Button on Different Sides in Windows
I'm not sure if this is unique to my computer(s), but I've noticed that the tab close button is on different sides in the Mac & Windows versions of Safari. On my Mac, the close button is on the Left-Hand side with the tab text centered on the tab. On my Windows, the close button is on the Right-hand side with the tab text justified to the left.
Why the difference in UI? I do quite a bit of browsing on both computers and I find that I'm constantly having to try to remember where I am to determine where the stupid close button is.
I've looked around in both the Mac & Windows versions and I can't find an option that specifies where the button is show and whether the text is justified or not.OK, here's what I'm talking about. This is a screen capture of a tab from the Macintosh version of Safari:
Notice how the "X" to close the tab is on the left-hand side and the text of the tab is centered on the width of the tab.
Here is a screenshot of the Windows version of Safari:
You can see how the tab is much smaller for one, but also how the text is justified to the left with the "X" to close the tab appearing on the right side of the tab instead of the left.
I don't really prefer one over the other (ie. left or right side), I just wondered if there's some setting to make them act the same way on both so that I don't have to constantly remember what OS I'm on in order to remember where the darn "X" is to close the tab. -
Hi - I'm not only having trouble waking up my MBP from sleep and having to restart repeatedly which is a pain in itself, but now when it restarted, I have these black boxes surrounding things, e.g., there is a black box around the red "close" button on the upper left corner of this page. There is also an oblong resizable black box sitting on top of anything. The content changes depending on the actions I take. Right now it says, "You are currently on a close button. To click this button, which closes the current window, press Control-Option-Space." Right now I'm open in Firefox, but it doesn't matter if only Finder is open, it's still there. I've tried closing all my applications and restarting and I also reset the PRAM. It won't go away. It's probably something simple, but I don't know how to get rid of it. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
JanetThanks so much. I saw this on "desktop strangeness" immediately after I posted and tried to retract my question. It worked perfectly. I'm not sure how VoiceOver got turned on unless something happened when I was trying to wake up the computer. I open the lid and it flashes whatever is open and then the screen goes black and I can't wake it up. Still looking for the resolution to this.
