Finder Copy Progress Bar File Path Reminder/Record?

Can someone please remind me if there is a way to see the actual file paths for what I am moving and where I am moving it to?
I have two copies going on which are going to take an hour or more and I need to remind myself how far into the process of sorting I am.
Basically the /folders/ are named rather generically and I am trying to make sure I can access as much as possible with respect to this.
ALSO, after the copy has completed - is there a record with file paths of what I have just done, in case I don't catch it before the Progress Bar completes...?
Thanks.

  • Copying and Pasting file paths in iChat

    Hi all,
Since upgrading some of our machines at the office to Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and iChat 5.0.3 we are having a strange issue that I hope someone has some insight into.
When all of the machines at our office ran Leopard and iChat 4, we used to send linkable file paths to folders on our server to one another via iChat so we could avoid having to write "go to Jobs, then to Current, then Posted, and the file is in there."
We would achieve this by opening up a firefox window, then dragging a folder from our server into the window. It would generate a filepath that looked like "file:///Volumes/Server/Jobs/New/transfer/" in the URL bar which could be copied and pasted into iChat and would appear as a linkable URL. Then we started using a program called Get File Path by Alpha Omega Software (http://alphaomega.software.free.fr/), a great drag and drop app which did the same thing with great results.
On machines that run Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and iChat 5.0.3 neither of these tricks will work anymore. The message returns an alert saying that the message couldn't be delivered, and that an "AIM service error occurred."
Does anyone know why this is happening? Has ichat changed the way it pastes text into message windows? These tricks were real timesavers, and it is annoying they are no longer working.
As an aside, the port number in iChat is 5190 on all machines, those that work and those that don't. This probably has nothing to do with it, but it is a little extra info.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian

    Hi,
I did test this (I got distracted from looking for the thread to post to it).
I tested with A Google ID and a Jabber ID (one on Each computer) and could send the Text and it appeared as a Live link and showed where the file was.
It did not matter which was sending (10.6.4 or 10.5.8)
I tested with two AIM based Logins.
As you have stated 10.6.4/iChat 5.0.3 will not send to 10.5.8/iChat 4.0.9
    10.5.8/iChat 4.0.9 can send to 10.6.4/iChat 5.0.3
I double checked firewalls. (Both allowing iChat)
I checked the router (allowing all ports on Local Traffic).
I did find this in a Console Message (on the 10.6.4 computer) though:-
Based on this info I tried deleting com.apple.ichatAgent.plist and starting iChatAgent (I used Force Quit in Activity Monitor and restarted iChat)
    This did not improve things.
    I have sent Feedback

  • Document Title bar file path

    Hi there
I see that when you hover the cursor over the title bar of a PS document the full path is displayed briefly in a tool tip.
I was just wondering if there is a way to instead have this display permanently in the title bar itself, in place of just the document name.psd
Alternately, is there somewhere else in the whole PS interface where, at a glance, the file path of the active window can be seen.
    Thanks

Not in the most recent versions of Photoshop it's not.
I think the reasoning for not maintaining the path is that a Photoshop document isn't really a single file.  It's a document that may have been opened from a file, but there's no guarantee that when you save it's going to be written back to the file.
In fact, PS CS5 offers the ability to maintain separate default directories for File - Open and File - Save As operations.
So the short answer to your question is, I believe, no.

  • Copy and paste file path into bridge

I use bridge a lot! One of the most annoying things about bridge is that I can't paste a file path into bridge to browse to that file, on a network server, for example. I work at a graphics company, all our files are stored on servers with hundreds of folder levels, which makes it a huge pain to browse to manually.
I'll usually get a file path link that i can quickly paste into windows explorer to either open the file or browse to the folder it's in. With bridge i have to manually click through to the network folder.
This change would make a huge difference in usability for me.

Paste your path into explorer then you can Right Click on the folder and select "Browse in Adobe Bridge CS5"
Edit:-  you can paste the path directly into the top bar just click to the right of the path and it will allow you to paste your path in.

  • My copy progress bar is jumpy

I just bought a new MacBook Pro 13. When I first got it and I would copy things the progress bar was smooth from start to finish. Now its all jumpy; it goes in 20-50Mb steps, its not smooth anymore.
    any thoughts on this matter?

oh, and my hard drive never seems to go to sleep anymore?

  • Lion finder copying not moving files

I just tried to move a bunch of file from the desktop to a folder on the desktop and it copied them - normally it would move them ... how is this please (I was not touching the control key) - thanks for any help Roger

    THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I have been trawling the internet for at least 15 minutes now trying to find the answer to moving instead of copying on Lion. Each other answer has been long and complicated or it didn't even work in the first place.
Obviously, typing in my password every time that I want to move my files is tedious but at least it works.
I really hope that Apple fixes this flaw.
    ALSO-
I found that if you go to:
    System Preferences > Sharing
    And then tick File Sharing
Add the folder you wish to move files around in, to 'Shared Folders' And then make sure your user has 'Read & Write' access, then you won't have to type your password or use the Copy command.
BUT, if you wish to have these files private, make sure that 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access'

  • Plugging in iPod dismounts USB drive-Finder copy

I have 3 USB and 8 FireWire drives in addition to 3 internal drive connected to my Mac Pro. I am running OS X 10.5.2 and when I plug in my iPod classic (160 GB), one of my USB drives dismounts. This happened when I was copying a large amount of data from that drive to another drive. I got the dismount dialog, and the Finder copy progress bar dialog is still left on the screen.
Also, I have never been able to cancel a Finder copy under Leopard successfully. I always have to end up force quitting the Finder.

That's a lot of drives... probably too many.
Is that drive that dismounts on a hub with the iPod? Is it bus-powered (takes power from the hub)? If so, my guess is that the iPod initially takes more power than the hub has left, and that causes loss of connection to the USB drive.
I would keep most of those external drives disconnect and plug them in only when needed. Doing so will make your Mac run faster. And that Finder copy progress bar issue may go away as well.

  • Copying multiple files (1000+) - Progress bar update is slow! Any ideas?

When I copy 1000+ raw files from any drive to another it takes a long time before the copy progress bar shows up, and some times it just takes a long time before the progress is updated. When it is updated, it has already copied alot of the files. Quite annoying, because you don't really get if it has begun copying, if it's hanging or what... Seems to me that the new per-file progress bar takes up too many ressources!
Btw I'm not on a slow system. 2.5 Quad core i7 MBP, 16GB RAM, OCZ Vertex 3 SSD...
Anyone got any ideas on this?

The progress bars have always been wonky. Can't judge a thing by them.

  • How do I set the default file path for the Place command?

I keep my graphics files for each document in a particular folder. Every time I open an existing InDesign document and place a new image I have to browse back to that location - even though all of the previous images in that document came from the same folder. InDesign does not remember the file path that was used previously in the document. This is very annoying.
IS THERE A WAY TO SET THE DEFAULT FILE PATH, OR LOCATION, FOR IMAGE FILES?
I have looked through the preferences, searched the forums and internet, but I have not found any reference to setting default paths. Is there a setting like the one in MS Word called "File Locations" on the Options toolbox?
    Thank you.

Since you're working in ID on Windows, you can take advantage of a neat trick in Windows. Copy the file path out of the File Explorer address bar and paste it directly into the Place filename field. That will jump you directly to the desired volume. For example, let's say I want to place a graphic located at X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working Source Files\Links. I copy that entire path from the File Explorer address bar, go to InDesign, select File|Place, and press Control + V to paste that path into the filename field. I press the Open button and Shazam! I'm there instantly, without a bunch of navigation.
You can do the same thing in the File|Save As and File|Export fields. Let's say you want export a PDF file from InDesign to the volume X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working PDF Files. First copy the desired file path from the File Explorer window. In InDesign, select File|Export, click anywhere in the filename field, and press the Home key to move the insertion point to the front of the filename. Press Control + V to paste that path in front of the filename, then add the backslash character (\). The filename will now look like this: X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working PDF Files\Filename.pdf. Press the Save button to bring up the Export Adobe PDF window. Select your desired PDF preset, press the Export button, and the PDF file will magically appear in the desired volume.
This sounds really complicated, but it's not. In practice, it only takes a few seconds. I probably save an hour's worth of needless navigation every day with this technique.

  • No progress bar for iWeb?  Why not?

Maybe I'm missing something here but, I can't find a progress bar to follow progress when publishing. I know I'm loading a large set of files, but I've been "publishing" for about 7 hours now and I have no idea whether or not "publishing" is taking place. If I try to quit iWeb, I get the message saying that "publishing" will be affected (or stop altogether). I'd like to believe that my site is making its way to the www -- but how do I know?

There is a progress dial at the top next to the site's folder in iWeb. Send a feature request to via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
How big is your site? What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? Are there lots of movie or audio files on it? 7 hours is rather long. What type of internet connection do you have? Where are you publishing to?

  • Getting File Path to Open

Is there a way to copy a full file path from a cell in Microsoft Excel to the clipboard and have Finder open it using another program?
the Microsoft Excel cell looks like this...
    Primary Hard Drive:Microstock 2.0:Automation Processes:Automating Folder System:Bright:Bright Series Choices Circles.jpg
the script I have looks like this but won't work...
tell application "Microsoft Excel" to copy range (cell "B1" of worksheet "Keywording 2.0" of workbook "Metadata")
    set thefile to (the clipboard)
tell application "Finder" to open thefile using "Primary Hard Drive:Applications:Adobe Bridge CS4:Adobe Bridge CS4"
tell application "Adobe Bridge CS4" to activate
I get an error "Can't make "Description" into type item.

There are several flaws with your script, which are compounding your problem.
First off, you're using copy range within Excel, which isn't what you want - that's intended to copy a range of cells within a worksheet to another worksheet.
Secondly, even if that did work, you really don't want to use the clipboard for this. There's no need, for a start, and it disrupts whatever else the user may have had on the clipboard. Just think of AppleScript variables as being an infinite number of named clipboards and you can see that you could easily use an AppleScript variable to pass the data between Excel and the Finder.
So, first off, getting the data out of Excel, you want to get the value of the cell and put it in an AppleScript variable:
tell application "Microsoft Excel" to set myFilePath to value of (cell "B1" of worksheet "Keywording 2.0" of workbook "Metadata")
Now myFilePath has the path data, which you can pass to the Finder:
tell application "Finder" to open file myFilePath
(although there may be no need to use the Finder at all for this - you can open the file directly, or tell Adobe Bridge to open the file, but the point of using AppleScript variables still stands)

  • How to create a file path in OS X Mavericks that works like a link.

    Hello,
In earlier OS, I was able to copy and paste file path (which becomes a link) into an email. Once the recipient received the email, click on the link and takes directly to the location of the file. Since I've updated to OS X Mavericks, copy and paste with link intact doesn't work.
Is there a work-around to this problem.
    Thanks!

  • SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 Configuration file path: is empty

I have begun installing SQL 2012 Service Pack 2 on a test system and I go to the page where it is Ready to update.  The configuration file path: at the bottom of the screen was empty.  Is this normal or will I need to go to the default locations
of Bootstrap to find the configuration file this upgrade is going to use?  This is something that is odd as a majority of our current installations is automated using a configuration file and a path for the Upgrade files.
    Rick

    Hi Rick,
Based on your description, I make a test on my computer. When I go to the ‘Ready to update’ page, I also find that the ‘configuration file path’ box is empty, below is my screenshot. This is a normal phenomenon during the installation of SQL Server Service
    Pack.
We don’t need to find the configuration file from SQL Server setup location, just click the Update button to perform the Service Pack installation. After the update process, I install SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 successfully.
Besides, there is also a similar article about installing SQL Server Service Pack for your reference.

  • Common URL format for sharing file paths between Mac and Windows?

    Hi -
I have to integrate several Macs into a Windows environment. We need to be able to copy and paste file paths to share between all machines. Is there a common URL format that can be used between the platforms?
    On Windows, I have:
    \\server\share\file
    On the Mac:
    smb://server/share/file
    Thank you for your help,
    Steve

On Windows you have what is known as a "UNC".
On the Mac, you have a "URL". It starts with the protocol to use "smb" then gives the path to the item using standard conventions.
    UNC is Microsoft mainly.
The only way I know for Windows to use a URL is with an application like a web browser or ftp client.
On the Mac, you can use UNCs but they must be modified as follows.
    In Terminal:
    smbclient \\\\servername\\sharename\\filename -U username
And enter a password if prompted.
Notice that you must double up the slashes. This is due to how UNIX shells treat the backslash.
You will connect to the share, but it will only be in Terminal.
