Finder corrupted

Everytime I have the App Store update OS X Mavericks, it corrupts some of my Finder dylibs and other files. The only solution I can think of is re-installing OS X Mavericks with the newest one and that fixes it. I'm wondering if people might know of an easier way to restore all the Finder dylibs so that I would'nt have to do a full system re-install. As for now, I'm going back to downloading the Update files online rather than using the App Store because I never had a problem with the downloaded files from Apple, even though I bet both use the same files. The only problem is that my App Store randomly errors out every time but Safari never does. This is the primary cause of corrupted system installs since App Store leaves off where it stopped during the error. Sorry I rant too much.

Okay, so my com.apple.appkit.xpc.openAndSavePanelService fails to run properly and it just hangs when those open/save panels popup and it happens throughout the entire system. So I can't open files and save new files within apps. Any short easy help? Or is my only option a re-install?

How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?

I usually start by exporting to AME (as opposed to encoding "in-process" by clicking Export in the Export Settings dialog). Then watch the preview in AME's Encoding panel to see where it chokes. Adding an adjustment layer over the whole sequence with the Timecode effect applied--and scaled up to full frame width--can really help isolate the location.
That approach can be a pain in cases where it chugs away for a long time before encoding fails. In those cases, I use a divide-and-conquer approach:
Is it the video or the audio?: Disable all video tracks and encode. Then re-enable the video and mute all audio tracks
Where in the timeline is the problem: Export the first half, then the second half (using In/Out Points). Then keep dividing the half that fails until you've narrowed it down to a relative handful of clips.

  • I cannot find corrupt iPhone backup file on my computer to delete it.

I have an iPhone 5s. It backed up to my computer (Mac) just fine until I got a new computer. I loaded all my backed up files onto the new computer (also a mac), from my airport extreme computer backup (also a mac product) and the next time I went to backup my iphone, it clearly says in the itunes window (where it would usually tell you your last backup date) that this phone had NEVER been backed up up on this computer. That would be fine with me and I would gladly create a new backup from what was on my phone currently except....When I click the backup button, it gives me the "could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. Delete the back up for this iphone, then try again" error message. I have followed every instruction of how to go about deleting these backups. I deleted every iPhone related backup through iTunes. Then I tried to find the files on the computer's hard drive outside of iTunes, but I swear there is no MobileSync folder on my computer. At least it's not at the path that is always given in every suggested solution.
I did create a separate user account (on the same computer) and was able to backup my phone through that. I don't know what that means, if anything, but I'd like my iphone to work with MY user account...
I've had a really difficult time finding the answer to this question online, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

i have figured it out, what you have to do is to restore your phone back to factory settings:
http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yBBiMy3Y6Q - youtube video to show you how incase you dont know
and then set up your phone as a NEW IPHONE instead of using iCloud
then plug it into iTunes - then i clicked on the iCloud thing to restore my new phone,   and it should work, mine does hope this helps

  • How to find corrupted files

With my 2 yr old macbook, I cannot update my recently purchased iphone 4 when an ipdate is available. I get message: "...device isn't eligble for requested rebuild." I have worked with Apple store Genius bar staff 4 times with no sucess.  Latest attempt was to erase HD, reinstall OS X, and only reinstall itunesin orde to test the update feature.  In this scenario, with only itunes on the macbook, the update is successful.  However, after  I drag and dropped many, but not all, of my programs and files from the saved data on external HD back onto the macbook, and tried an update on a different iphone 4 (in our family plan), same problem.  So I guess somewhere in what I transferred back onto  the macbook is a bad file.  I suppose I could go through the tedious process of transferring one program/file at a time onto the macbook, then trying the update again, but I can't do an update after each transfer because there is no new update to download, as they come out only every so often.
Is there a program that can scan the external HD to find bad/corrupted files?  I have Spring cleaning and Drive Genius, neither of which seem to have the features to do such a scan (they do have disk scan, which I have run, along with Apple's Tech Tool, and all such scan operations have show no problems)
(to complicate this, this apparent bad file on this macbook likely came from my white intel based iMac.  I first discovered this "updating of the iphone 4 problem" on the imac.  When we bought the macbook, we bought one to one and had the Apple store do a complete transfer from the imac to the macbook in its first time set up.  I purchased the iphone 4 in Sep 2010 and first tried an update in Nov 2010, which failed.  I have been back to the Apple Genius bar 5 times since then with this problem.  During one of those visits, Genius suggested trying to do just the update of my iphone 4 from the macbook, and that is when we discovered the macbook had the same problem.  So this bad file likely was transferred to the macbook in that initial set up transfer.  Furthermore, this macbook is still under AppleCare, yet that does not seem to mean anything to the Genius Bar.  Tomorrow I will call applecare about this, but in the meantime, if anyone out there has a clue, I'm much obliged.

I didn't know of this console feature.  I see Mozy.backup doing something.  I had tried Mozy on this imac a long time ago and stopped using it, and I thought I had deleted it.  When I just now searched for mozy, all I get is .pdf file.  Do you think this could be the problem and how would I get totally rid of mozy files?  Thanks

My spotlight does not work in my account, but works in other accounts, how do I find the corrupt files?

Is systemuiserver.plst related to spotlight? I noticed it in the activity monitor.
Also I checked on a different MacBookPro and it did not have a com.apple.spotlight.plst why is that? why do I have it?
That MBP is just a little newer like 2-3 months than mine.

By starting from different user account Log and Transfer worked which means I have a corrupted file in the directory of original user account causing the error of Log and Transfer. What will be the easiest way to find the corrupted file?

If the new user acct test allows you to work with the software, it usually means a dead pref file. The easiest way to deal with these issues is to run Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager software (free) to delete the preference files in FCP.
Open it up and look under the FCP settings in the Advanced tab. It gives you the option of selectively deleteing the various pref files associated with the app.
First back up all your FCP prefs then start deleting them one by one. Once you figure out which one is the problem, restore all the others.

  • How to find corrupt media...Need Level 4 helpers Please!

Thanks for reading. There's alot of info here so thanks ahead of time!
I am at a post facility and don't have authorization to do some of the things mentioned in other posts so I need some expert recommendations (You all) in order to convince the "Post Production Facility Manager" to fix this.
I'm working on a project that, once I quit at night and re-open in the morning...Final Cut crashes/quits at about 22% on the progress bar.
My best workaround so far has been exporting the timeline/sequence as an XML and then re-importing into a NEW project. I do this because I usually have to go back 2 to 3 hours in the Auto Save Vault to find a project that WILL open.
I've also deleted all the renders, removed my Boris 4.2 transitions, deleted preferences...except that I hop from bay to bay as I also get shuffled around this facility too (which adds extra fun to try to get autosaves)
BACKGROUND: There are two systems that are intels and 2 that are G5s and we're all sharing an XSAN. Plus the "Facility Manager" also 'shares' the Raid (mounts the raid through one of the computers) while doing After Effects work from time to time (he renders on a system with the fiber card though).
Anyhow...in AVID MC land...if you watched at the point the progress bar stops...that gives you a better indication which/where you corrupted media file is.
There's more but I get back to it. Any ammo to use on the "Facility Manager" would be greatly appreciated as he is insistent on NEVER restarting the XSAN as it takes a half hour to restart...apparently....and he says that's not the problem.
    Thanks,
    Tom

<<Can you not navigate to the capture scratch folder on the x-san and re name it?>>
No, because there are 4 other editors using the Xsan and I don't/wouldn't get permission. What if I just 'Select All' on the timeline and Shift + D-it, take it offline, leave on the drive, and then reconnect?
Plus, when I reconnect in sections, what do I do to check for corrupted media? Would I find it by playing the timeline or am I opening and closing the project each time I do a new section
<<I will be willing to guess that the corrupt file is one of the following: a cmyk photoshop file, an imported stock shot or some other graphic file.>>
There are only five RGB 8-bit png's in the timeline. No CMYKs. No imported QTs. No stock footage. No mixed formats. Everything is DVCPRO HD 720p60 footage digitized through the KONA 3 card.

  • How to find corrupted music files causing sync problems (dotted grey circle)?

I'm having the dreaded dotted grey circle problem and it's driving me mad.  Based on what I read in the for a it could be because a new music upload is corrupted, but how do I find it, when each try to sync last two hours?  And then to de-sync again lasts another half hour, to resync again lasts another two hours ... My life is not long enough for this crap!
Often I have no idea what it's doing - "waiting for changes ..." ... should I wait hours for something happen only to realise nothing's happening??

Is that even possible? We're talking about a 6-year-old iPod thereabouts.

  • Finder corrupted after 10.6.8 update

Updated to 10.6.8 and had problems with rolling beach ball and dock not loading at all.  Discovvfered incompatibility with having Parallels in the dock and took it out.  But in the process of discovery and several hard boots into and out of safe mode, the Finder changed permanently so that the sidebar no longer shoes devices and places etc..  I trashed the Finder .plist file and rebooted, to no avail.  even tried replacing the .plist file with a backed up file from before the change, to no avail.
How do I get a functional Finder back?

    Ronald,
First I'd download the Parallels update that fixes the problem.  (If Parallels is still installed).
Then if the issue persists, trash ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Logoff and Login (or restart the finder).  You will probably need to set the options again in Finder > Preferences > Sidebar.

  • Program to find corrupt files?

Can anyone recommend a program that locates corrupt/problem files on an external HD? Thanks in advance.

There are no such animals. What's one file's corruption is another's perfection. And, if are referring to corrupted directories the default tool is Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. There are utilities that can try to detect a problem file such as Disk Warrior and TechTool Pro, but as for detecting whether a file is a problem or not that's not too likely.

  • Finding corrupt file in an Windows 8.1 Update installation

    Hi
I would like to know if, with
Windows 8.1 Update, there is a
way to know if its installation has
    some of its corrupt file?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

Usually after update been download, it will be checked for file integrity before it install and if there is any error it will notify you and after installation, it will also notify you if something went wrong.
However, you may run sfc /scannow command to check whether your Windows files are corrupted or not.
You should run the comm and in command prompt as administrator.
    In which Windows mode is
    better to run this command?
    Thanks

  • How do I find corrupt file?

Recently a huge FCP project will not open. I just found out that it opens just fine when my media drive is not attached. I have trashed all my render files, cache files, settings/pref files, ran disk utilities, etc.
I believe it's one of my video/audio files. How do I find out which one it is?
    Thanks in advance!

Interesting... I did what X suggested. However, I reconnected a few at a time since it would take an entire day. One reference movie file was acting weird, so I connected everything but that one. I saved a new file and quit. I attempted to open and started having the same problems, it would crash before totally open.
So I opened the original and connected all the media but my .jpg, .tif and .png files. Basically all my image files. Saved a new FCP project file. Quit FCP. The reopened the new FCP project file and wha lah, it opened. So it is in fact one of the image files. Now I just have to find out what file is doing it.
Thanks guys for your help. I'll report back one more time when I've found the specific file that's causing the problem.

  • How to find corrupt masters

    Hi All,
So, one of my favorite photos has a corrupt master. It's corrupt in my Aperture 2 vault, corrupt in my Aperture 3 vault, and corrupt in my Aperture 3 library. I lost my Aperture 2 library due to hard drive failure. Therefore, I do not know if the corruption happened in my Aperture 2 library first, or my Aperture 2 vault.
I assume, given the corruption of my included master, that Aperture tried to decode it and failed in some way.
    Two questions in this topic:
    1. How can we track down masters with data errors in them? Is there an error somewhere, assuming Aperture failed to decode it? With 10K images, how can we force Aperture to "verify" all masters?
    2. How do you keep your backup from backing up corrupt data?
    So, any thoughts?
    thanks,
    nathan
PS, extra credit if anyone can identify the location of this famous barn.

    Corky,
My guess is that you would have noticed this.
I agree with Kirby in that Aperture is not looking for this and the engineers are assuming that the user will notice this type of issue.
Hopefully you guys are still reading this thread.
I forgot to mention that, initially, the picture came up looking just fine. I.e., the thumbnail for Aperture's internal use looked right. However, *something happened immediately* upon viewing my "5 star" smart album. That something made Aperture regenerate the thumbnail, and it showed me the corruption.
I do not know what that something was. Was it merely that I looked at the picture? Why would Aperture have regenerated the thumbnail?
Before this happened, I would have agreed that "the engineers are assuming the user will notice this type of issue". Whatever Aperture did, it wasn't immediate, and I might not have noticed except that it's at the beginning of my smart album and I did not start scrolling immediately. I.e., by chance, I gave Aperture some time to do some thinking, and it showed me the corrupt photo.
I dug into the masters a little bit more, and it turns out the modification date of each corrupt file is not the same as the rest of the photos in the project. Years later.
Does Aperture do any automatic thumbnails based on file modification timestamp?
Personally, I use the backup feature in the import presets to backup the original data from camera to an external drive (which I quickly verify as full image data). These files I leave 'as originally imported' in case needed in the future.
Very good advice. I think I will have to modify my workflow. What do you mean by "verify as full image data?" Look to see that there's not a problem like mine? Out of curiosity, in what way do you verify that? Preview will do it, but it's a pain in the butt to look through many files.
Sorry you lost what seems to be a great shot.
Thanks. I never imagined the light over Mormon Row would look that blue. I was 100% sure my trip was going to be in vain when I drove to take that picture. Mother nature gave me one great surprise!
Luckily, it wasn't the only shot I took. Unluckily, this master corruption problem seems to have affected 5 of 7 photos in my Mormon Barns sequence...

  • Ouch! Unusual finder corruptions

I dropped a heavy book on my keyboard and wow, some usual things are happening. I suspect these wierd happenings apply to applications that were open at the time. They reoccur no matter what I have done.
    1. I have duplicate commands now under the "apple" logo in the menu.
    Restart...
    Restart
    Shutdown...
    Shutdown
    Log out "username"
    Log out "username"
    2. When I highlight a desktop icon, a rectangular box (black lines) appears around the icon, and random square or rectangular boxes also appear when I open some applications, although they disappear as I shift my mouse. In fact my entire window has this highlighting feature along the borders, and certain Finder dialogue boxes have it, too. Bizarre, and unwanted.
    3. Safari used to let me participate in certain bulletin boards, but now, when I log in, the scroll bar always snaps to the top of the window. Very frustrating. I've reinstalled Safari, trashed the Safari plist, and it persists.
Any ideas? None of this is crippling, just mildly annoying.

    LeBaron,
1./2., Open System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing>VoiceOver: Use the keyboard combination listed, or click the "Off" button.
    3. Not sure about that, but try System Preferences...>Place scroll arrows: Your choice.
    ;~)
