Finder Coverflow

Is there a way to increase the size of the file preview in coverflow? I use it to quickly go through pics and wonder if I could make the preview bigger than the current default.

Just below the controller bar in the CoverFlow section you should see a little bitty set of parallel lines. When you mouse over them your cursor will change to a hand. Click and hold on the lines and start to drag downward, the hand closes and you can drag downwards quite aways, but there will always be a minimum height for the files list. On my big monitor I see 6 files visible in file list, on my smaller monitor I can see 5. And, of course, you can drag the window corner so the window itself pretty much fills the monitor.

  • Oversaturated photos in Finder Coverflow

I've just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and noticed that all photos/pictures shown in Finder Coverflow is oversatured. This was not a problem in Snow Leopard. Probably, someone forgot to assign a spesific color space to it in Mountain Lion. Although it's not a major bug, I still consider it a major flaw. I'm a photographer and I do rely on the software to be consistent from creation to delivery. The way it is now, I always get a bit hesitant whenever I go through the finished photos in Finder Coverflow just check it's the right files for delivery and suchs.. quite a pain in the ***
Are there any fixes or tips to correct this?

How noticeable the difference is depends on what you're using for a monitor profile. If it's sRGB (or the supplied profile is basically the same color space), you won't see much change. Use a wider gamut profile like Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
You can see it happen just by doing this. Blues are the most obvious. Put a copy of the App Store or Safari application on the desktop. Now grab the copy with mouse and start to move it. You'll see that even drag image under the mouse cursor is wrong.

  • Images in Finder/Coverflow SERIOUSLY pixelated

Has anyone had issues with coverflow in Finder seriously pixelating images?
I'm having it in random folders (but not all) and I cannot find any rhyme or reason for it.
Is Leopard generating previews and just not done yet maybe?
Here's an example of what I'm seeing:
    http://www.allenrockwellphoto.com/images/pixelated.jpg
As I said, some folders show images sharp and clear, others show them this way ... there seems to be no logic to it.

I have the same problem with images on the internal disk, although they were copied there from a external after my erase and install. Raw files look fine and so do smaller jpegs. I also see the issue with psd files but not pngs.
I think this has to do with the new higher resolution leopard icons. This is what I think is happening.
Those jpegs were saved on a tiger system. When the file was written there was a icon thumbnail generated at a 128x128 pixels. This was the largest size supported by OS X up until leopard. New leopard icons can be up to 512x512 pixes, W00t!
So as a result your icon preview stored with the file is 128x128 but is being scaled to whatever size your cover flow window is sized to. Hence, causing pixelization (sp?).
To test this I opened one of the problem images in preview, did a "save as" to a new file and voila! beautiful coverflow icons. However, my photoshop CS3 is still unaware that it should be writing higher rez thumbnails. Perhaps I should run adobe updater...
I'm looking for a command line or apple script way to update these thumbnails without changing the modified or created dates so the process can be scripted.
Ideally you should point the script to a directory, find all image files with less than 512x512 icons, regenerate the thumbnail and preserve any modified or created dates.
The sips command line tool doesn't seem to do the trick. Any ideas?

  • Finder COVERflow? Is it really COVERflow, or ICONflow?

In iTunes, I can see my album COVERS and my dvd COVERS, hence the name....COVERflow.
But with COVER?flow in Finder, all I can see are ICONS!!!!
For example, I have a folder called MOVIES. In this folder are my movies (I'm simple, like that). Now, I also have a folder of dvd covers. I want to attach my dvd covers to my movie files, so that when I'm viewing in COVERflow, all my dvd COVERs flow by!!!!
In iTunes, it's just a simple matter of selecting Get Info / Artwork / Add Artwork.
But in Finder there is no such option...... or is there????????

    Hi
What it seems to show is a frame from a few seconds into the movie. On my older Mac, I can open a folder containing just a handful of WMV files and it will take up to twenty seconds to replace each generic icon with a content specific icon. Presumably it's loading QuickTime (and Flip4Mac) transparently in the background, opening each movie file, capturing a frame and replacing the file's icon. In the end I switched it off via View Options - Show Icon Preview, as it resulted in a significant amount of CPU activity on my older Mac.
I guess one work around for you may be to switch off icon preview, so you only see the icons, then customise each icon with the relevant DVD cover. Via Get Info, you can highlight a file's icon and paste one of your choice in. I guess you'd need to convert each DVD cover into icon format, I'm not sure whether GraphicConverter would work. Perhaps you could just copy each DVD cover file icon (with icon preview switched on, so the icon represents the cover) and paste it over each DVD movie file icon (with icon preview switched off). It's not ideal though!

  • Mavericks Finder Coverflow Gets Lost

I have upgraded to Mavericks, and I am having trouble with Coverflow in the Finder. When I delete files it gets lost, showing previews of files that are not the ones that are highlighted. The spacebar preview seems to work, showing me the actual contents, but the coverflow view is for a different file. Also, if there is a long list of files in the folder, it cannot display the files further down the list.
I was in the middle of a large project, going through thousands of photos in finder, when I upgraded. I had the perfect workflow, using coverflow, and it worked flawlessly in Lion. It seems this got boken in the update.
    Any suggestions?

You can file feedback here. The more who file the more chance it will get done.

  • Finder Coverflow issue

In Coverflow view in the Finder, double-clicking on a file in the text window below opens the document in the assigned application in the forefront. With some files (TextEdit and Preview files so far), if I double click on the icon in the Coverflow window, it opens in the background while others, like a Safari web location icon, open in the forefront. Anyone else see this? It seems pretty inconsistent to me...

Yeah, pretty much everyone who has a Macbook has this problem. I went to the Apple store a few days ago, and I found out that this problem was ONLY native to the Macbook, which is shameful, because it's the most widely bought Apple computer. I hope it gets addressed quickly!

  • Where do I find coverflow and covers in lists since update?

Since the update of itunes I cannot find the coverflow feature. Can somebody tell me how to switch it on. Furthermore I would like to show covers in the tracklists sorted by artist. Thanks for your help!

    Cover flow has gone.
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library for the old search behavior.
In Playlist views there is a view control near the top right which lets you switch between List, Grid & Artist List. The last is the closest to the old Album List view but shows limited detail.

  • Finder-coverflow shows green thumbnails for videos

    Hello,
somehow my coverflow in finder shows green thumbnails for some of my videos. I can open them, and they would also play in quicklook. Once i had opened them with quicklook, the normal video-image is also be seen for some moments after i quit quicklook. see the gallery below for screenshots.
    Any ideas?
It occirs only with mpeg4-avi-files. All other .avi-files show normally.

I had success with Ai's File > Save As... command on .ai files that have no preview and show only the .ai logo.
File > Save on non-preview files keeps the old properties, while Save As...creates a file with the new properties including the thumbnail preview.
In the Save As... dialog, I use Version: Illustrator CC (17.0) and check Create PDF compatible file and Use compression.
    I'm running Mavericks 10.9.1

  • For Adobe CC in finder coverflow shows white box instead of file preview

I cannot get my .psd files that are Adobe CC to show up as anything but a white box in coverflow.
I run 10.7.5 since that's as far as I can upgrade this 2006 mac pro. My other files show up fine as do other non .psd files such as .jpgs made in Adobe CC. Any helps is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Purchased iTunes media artwork not showing up in finder?

I've scoured google and the threads here on the ASC, but nothing has worked. At first I did not notice the pattern, but now I realize it. None of the album artwork that is embedded into my purchased itunes media displays in finder. All of my artwork displays perfectly in iTunes, but not in finder. I started having this problem today, seemingly randomly. I hadn't downloaded any updates to any applications, nor had I installed any new applications. The only thing I did was import four new cds (ALAC format) and the album artwork shows up fine in finder for those. To be honest the problem could have been going on earlier but I did not notice this until today when I went and looked for my new albums to verify the artwork had been embedded properly.
I tried everything under the sun, including deleting the album artwork cache that Finder supposedly shares with iTunes in the iTunes folder. I downloaded a program called Onyx that someone suggested and rebuilt ALL folder window displays, resetting all folder views. I cleared every cache there was on the computer, and rebuilt all databases, including the spotlight index database. I have literally rebuilt all databases that are rebuildable and cleared every single cache there is (including in my /user/library folder) and the problem still persists. I don't know what it is about the purchased itunes media that doesn't display in finder, but it bothers me. It's embedded.
The weirdest part of it is that in Time Machine, all of the artwork displays in the Finder icons and Finder CoverFlow just fine. But when I restore from Time Machine back into my iTunes media folder, the icons go back to the generic sound file icon in Finder (coverflow, quickview, file icons, everything). The only place the album artwork displays is in iTunes itself. I tried using Doug's applescript for re-embedding artwork, to no avail. I'm at a complete loss.
Even if I manually browse to my time machine backup folder on my external HDD, the icons show up just fine. It's just the purchased files that are actually in my iTunes media folder that don't display.
    Some info on my setup:
    2013 macbook pro w/ retina 15" 2.7ghz model
    OSX ML 10.8.4
    iTunes v 11.0.4 (4)
I checked for available updates, there are none, I'm completely up to date. I'm new to mac this month, coming from a long line of Windows computers, so I'm not completely familiar with all the nooks and crannies of OSX but I feel like I exhausted a fair amount of my thinkable options here.

I have given it several days now and still no joy. Details are as follows:
    1) I have two collections:
        a) In one collection: All files are Apple Lossless (ALAC) with embedded artwork.
             - There is NOTHING else in this collection - no other media - nada.
              - This collection is about 380GB
         b) The other collection is a mix of compressed m4a's, audiobooks, and iPad apps.
              - The music part of this collection is about 170GB
              - The audibook part of this collection is about 43GB
    2) In both cases, the iTunes library and media are in a subdirectory of a Pegasus R4 (4TB RAID 5 array).
    3) Issue manifests itself with both collections on on both my systems, each of which has a Pegasus R4 connected via the Thunderbolt port
         - MacBook Pro 15 Retina with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
         - Mac Mini with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and Server 2.2.1
Again, for my case...artwork shows up perfectly in iTunes and in other tools (Clementine, Logitech Media Server), but not in Finder.
Also - tools that use the Finder's mechanism for accessing album art (Plex, for example) do NOT work properly.
I wonder if it is related to having the media housed on an external (if you can call what thunderbolt does "external") drive.

  • Need option to disable CoverFlow

There's a huge thread about this for the iPod nano 4g, but I have always hated coverflow on my iPod touch as well. Now that the 2g iPod touch has Nike+ it's even more imperative that there be an option to disable Coverflow, but actually I'm not a runner. I still find Coverflow annoying as heck and really wish I could turn it off. I never use it and it just switches in when I don't want it to. I'd much rather have a landscape normal view, if it's going to do anything. It would be nice to be able to see more of titles. That would be genuinely useful.

Yep - it's annoying. Particularly the waiting for it to go back to normal mode as it seems to take longer then it should. I wish I could turn it off on my iPod touch too, but they haven't done that either. Mind you, I've never bothered to send them a request for that feature. I'd like to do that, but where can you send such suggestions? I seem to recall that they use to have this somewhere on their website, but now I can't find it.

  • Animated GIFs aren't

I can't view animated gif files ... neither in finder coverflow (which would be awesome) nor in preview.
I have to drag them to the browser to view the animations, which is unacceptable.
Is there a way to see the animations at least in preview ... or even in finders cover flow mode ?

Like, they do. If enough people are unhappy with something, and communicate their unhappiness, Apple has changed things. Case in point: stacks in the Dock killing the way people had been using folders in the Dock. The option to use folders reappeared in the first update to Leopard. Ditto for an UNtranslucent menu bar option. Whether something gets changed or not probably depends on a number of things: whether it is easy to fix, whether enough people are unhappy, why the the whatever-it-is is the way it is rather than another way. Since we can't know what prompted the state, nor probably how easy it is fix, we can only send our feedback and urge others to do the same, and hope enough complain to make it worthwhile for Apple to respond.

  • Photo Orientation: Vertical vs. Horizontal?

I downloaded a number of photos from zip files.  Some of the photos were vertical and some were horizontal.
When I first viewed them in Finder/Coverflow method, the verticals were sideways until the image was the one actually being viewed, and I could see the entire image. When the image was the center/main image, the image rotated 90-degrees and I could only see part of the image.
I don't recall this happening before, but it is obviously frustrating.  I attempted to import the photos into Aperture to see if perhaps the image would again become completely visible, but that didn't work. Neither did opening images in Photoshop.
I have downloaded verticals in the past, including imports from iCloud, and this has never happened.
I'm inclined to believe the problem is related to first viewing them in Coverflow within the finder. Perhaps the problem is related to the files having first arrived within a .zip file?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Do you mean that when you rotate the phone from landscape ("horizontal") to portrait position ("vertical") the movie doesn't rotate to the right viewing position or it doesn't fill the screen?
The result should be a small picture since the width of the image is limited by the portrait mode width of the screen. It won't fill the hight of the portrait screen, as this would cut off most of the width of the image.

  • What is Wrong with Cover Flow?

    Hello Everyone
i have been using a Mac for a while now,(Since OS 9) and recently, my MacBook has started not wanting to stay in the Finder Coverflow mode.I use the Coverflow mode constantly, and would like it to stay in that mode.
If I press the Coverflow button, it works fine, but, once i close the window, it reverts back to the icon grid view.If anyone can help me with this problem, this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Matt Gartner
PS: I have tried multiple hard disk reformats and reinstalls.

Starting with Leopard the Finder no longer assigns the last view of a window automatically to that window. You have to explicitly tell the Finder you want the window to always open in a particular view. You can assign a default, but that will only apply to windows that don't already have one. You access all this through the menu item View->Show View Options when you have a window open. Thus you want to open a folder, go to View Options with the window set the way you want it, check the "Always Open in..." box at the top, then click the "Use as Defaults" button at the bottom of the Options window. I don't much care for the new system, but no one asked me. Apple was attempting to address the chorus of complaints about the inability to set the default behavior of windows in the Finder...this is their solution.
