Finder crashes every 60 seconds

Hi there
I've been going lots of googling the past couple of days but haven't turned up a solution yet...
Finder crashes and relaunches every minute or so. "Remove the .plugin files and log out/in again" I hear you say. Done, no joy. Tried removing com.apple.Finder.plist - no joy. I had Stuffit v10 on here, but it's now been completely nuked. Still no biscuit. Console log shows this:
Dec 6 06:45:15 Babeh-Lappie crashdump[459]: Finder crashed

Machine is g4-1.5GHz powerbook, 1.25GB RAM, 100GB disk, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The error happens when the kb + mouse are switched off too. This seems to have only started happening when I installed the 2006/07 security update. I tried reinstalling that, and then reinstalling 10.4.8 over the top of that, but no cigar.
Any ideas, anyone?

  • 10.9.2 - Finder crashes every 5 seconds!!!

I have a MacPro with 24GB of RAM, 6 core Intel Xeon CPU, 2012 tower.
After the OSX 10.9.2 upgrade I had issues with the display port output on my graphics card. I resolved that issue temporerilly by using DVI-D and HDMI for both my monitors.
Today, however, I have an even WORSE fault!
FINDER CRASHES LITERALLY EVERY 5 SECONDS.
Pardon my French but I am SERIOUSLY ****** OFF NOW.
Every Finder crash log says exactly the same thing:
    EXC_BAD_ACCESS
At first I thought it may be faulty RAM, but I have tried every RAM stick in isolation and it changes nothing. I have also went back down to one monitor and, again, it changed NOTHING. I have no extensions installed; this is 100% RAW Finder.app
What can I do to fix this without having to reinstall OSX?
    Thank You.

I did not say reinstall the OS.  I think your boot HDD is failing.  Disk utility (in your applications/utility folder) can verify the smart status of the drive.  You can access disk utility from your install discs, an install USB, or a bootable clone.
You need an alternative boot source (not time machine).  The problem you face is the exact reason many of us make install USBs, have install DVDs, or bootable clones.
If you have none of these, at least try and boot into recovery (hold command R at the chime).  If your HDD is bad this won't help but if it is a file structure error then maybe you can access disk utility this way.

  • Finder crashes every 2 seconds

    hey there...
i've been having trouble with my computer tonight. my finder crashes literally every two seconds. if i try to open an application it crashes as soon as the finder does. i can't figure out anyway around this and seem to be trapped in an endless cycle of my finder opening and closing.
any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance.

    -ryan,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Follow the procedure in Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode.
Then find the com.apple.finder.plist in (yourusername)Library/Preferences Folder, move it to the Desktop and restart.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Why does Process 'Translate' keep crashing every 12 seconds?

    Hi folks
I have an errant process called 'translate' (note: not 'translated') which appears to be part of Rosetta. It resides in usr/libexec/oah. In my case it crashes every 12 seconds (not eleven, not thirteen). I have a rather large crash log for translate (360mb). So my question is
How do I stop translate from crashing every 12 seconds? Or at all?
    Regards

It's the one part of Growl that is not recompiled for Universal yet. I found the answer in a thread on this forum:
    http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=8175&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start =45
Download the Universal recompiled version here
    http://evands.penguinmilitia.net/GrowlImporter.mdimporter.zip
Unzip the file and overwrite the file with the same name in this location:
    ~/Library/PreferencePanes/Growl.prefPane/Contents/Resources/GrowlHelperApp.app/C ontents/Library/Spotlight/
(You can get there quickly via Go->Go to Folder in Finder).
Log out and log in again.

  • Menu Bar crashing every 10 seconds

The menu bar crashes every 10 seconds (crashes-10secs-restart-crashes) and I cant find anything that will make it stop. I have run repair permissions, uninstalled istat menus, logged in to another account, and gone though the library and deleted everthing to do with istat.
Also restarted multiple times but it doesn't fix the problem. All functions/features that are controlled from the menu bar still work (ie. airport, bluetooth). Learning from previous experience i have uploaded a youtube video of the problem. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UovWVjxZvK0

Go to /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and delete that file. Then, restart.

  • Adobe Premiere CC crashes every ~10 seconds

Hi, today I installed Premiere CC and After Effects CC on a computer at work. Here are the specs of the computer.
    BIOS: BIOS Date: 01/10/13 08:20:50 Ver: A12.00
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
    Graphics: Intel(R) HD 4000
I edited some footage for about 30 minutes, and then Premiere crashed. I figured I was about done anyway and opened up AE, and worked for awhile. I switched back to Premiere to do more work, and it started crashing every ~10 seconds. So I'd open, edit for about 6 seconds, save, and it'd crash. Reopen, edit for a few seconds, save, etc. I finally finished the editing, but of course it wouldn't stay open long enough to export anything.
So I opened up AME, and dragged the .prproj into it. For awhile, it would just say "Reading XMP" for a long time, and so I eventually would quit out of it. After a while, it stopped, and I could edit the export settings. Once I got those set up, I tried to export. No good. It'd export a bit, and it would freeze. Then, a dialogue box saying "Adobe Premiere CC has stopped working" would pop up, and then AME would export a little more, etc. I figured out that killing the process "PProHeadless" causes the same export/freeze phenomenon. But the final exported file had inserts of "media pending" in the video. I figured that it was pretty drastic to be killing processes, so I wasn't too surprised.
At any rate, I'd really like to be able to edit at some point. I'd appreciate your help. Also, I don't have administrator priveledges on the computer... but I can probably get them if it's an absolute must.

Flush the media cache and the project cache.

  • Finder crashes every few minutes.

    I'm working on a 2007 MacBook Pro 17".
I installed Mavericks, but noticed that an important application wasn't working on it, so I downgraded (from a Time Machine backup) back to Mountain Lion.
Ever since, Finder crashes every few minutes, making it unable to use my Mac.
    Can somebody please help?
That would mean a lot to me.
You can find one of the crash reports on my Dropbox as a .txt-file.

    Try deleting the Finder .plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist.Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by loggin out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Accountsd keeps crashing every 10 seconds

I have noticed that this is crashing every 10 seconds and then respawning. There is a similarpost but the underlying error message in that thread is it cannot create a file.  This error messages seems not to be able to load a symbol.
It mentions facebook - but am pretty sure i do not have a facebook app installed I only use the web site.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • OS 10.4.7 finder crashing every second

I have the console log and a witness, for those who think I am hallucinating.
Last night this happened twice. Firefox crashed, and took a couple of open applications with it. Rapidly, the finder crashed, opened again, crashed, opened again, rinse and repeat, the remaining open applications crashed, and the finder opened and crashed repeatedly approximately every second. It was like a slow strobe light. I watched in amazement for a while then powered it off. The apps that phone home and report crashes crashed too, but all crashes were written to the console log (I haven't checked the app logs themselves yet.)
My son went back to what he was doing, to apologize to the friends he was chatting to, and the whole thing happened again. We powered off and I declared it bed time.
I started in safe mode this morning and it is OK so far.
My son thinks the trigger for the initial crash was MSN web messenger running on Firefox and using Japanese language.
Isn't OS X designed so that when an application crashes that is the only one that crashes and other applications and the system itself are protected? What could be going on here? While my son is waiting for his PC to come back from the repair shop, should I let him chat with his Japanese friends on my Mac or ban him?
    Pam
(P.S. I have good reasons to use Firefox not Safari, but that is a different topic.)

I'm glad there is someone else out there who has seen this. I was worried I would have no cred at all. My son is studying software engineering, and has studied computer science, and stresses his PC to the max when gaming, and he has never seen any computer anywhere crash like that.
If he asks to use my Mac again, I will make sure all the Japanese fonts are enabled (I have hundreds of fonts, so won't enable them all).
Add to the weird stuff: an iCal alarm reminding me to put out the garbage stayed open and I was able to close it even with the finder flashing on and off like that. My garbage note was the only thing that survived.

  • Finder keeps crashing every 2 seconds. How do I stop it?

I restarted my Mac using safe reboot (holding down the shift key while starting) to fix an unrelated iPhoto problem. I then rebooted. Since then, my Finder has been crashing and restarting every two seconds or less. This is happening in all of my users. I tried deleting the com.apple.finder.plist but I'm not able to surf to it in time before Finder crashes again. What do I do? Thanks!

I had this same problem.  I used to use Dolly Drive. Removing the DollySpaceTools folder did the trick.
    Startupdiskname/Library/Application Support/DollySpaceTools
    (This was driving me nuts!)
BTW, Dolly Drive has a note on their support page that says they have an update that is Mavericks compatible. I did not have that update installed when I installed Mavericks.

  • Why does Finder keep crashing every 2 seconds?

every two seconds a "finder quit unexpectadly" window keeps popping up, i can't open finder. on the top menu bar finder is there but i can't click on anything but the apple logo. i've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a solution. i've gone into safe mode and the same problem occurs i've tried recovery mode and repairing the disk and the the same thing. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.5

    Hey there st4rduzt,
It sounds like your Finder application is constantly quitting unexpectedly. I recommend starting by verifying and if need be, repairing your starup disk:
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair a disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836
Print this help page so you can refer to it later. (You don’t have access to Disk Utility Help when you restart up your computer in the next step.)In the Disk Utility Help window, choose Print from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear).
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts. When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done. Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility reports “overlapped extent allocation” errors, two or more files occupy the same space on your disk, and at least one of them is likely to be corrupted. Check each file in the list of affected files. If you can replace a file or recreate it, delete it. If it contains information you need, open it and examine its data to make sure it hasn’t been corrupted. (Most of the files in the list have aliases in a DamagedFiles folder at the top level of your disk.)
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced.
If the issue persists after you have done the Disk Repair, I would next see if the issue occurs in Safe Mode.
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
If it does not, I would next look at log in items to see if something is interfering with the OS:
OS X Lion: The Login Items pane of Users & Groups preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4602
If it does, then restart the computer as normal, and test the issue again.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Finder crashing every time we do a second search on a network drive.

We just clean installed Mountain on 2 iMac's in our small business environment. There are approximately 30 other macs on the network ranging from 10.5.8 to 10.8. There are also 3 servers, a 10.5, 10.6 and a 10.7 server.
Both iMacs running Mountain Lion are crashing any time we perform a second search on the 10.5 server and report the following error.
    8/21/12 12:22:59.045 PM
    com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[122]
(com.apple.Finder[447]) Job appears to have crashed: Segmentation fault: 11
By second search I mean that the search result comes back fine when we open a new Finder winow and perform a search, but if we just leave the search results window open and perform a second search... Finder crash.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi WimBarb,
Unfortunately we couldn't find a fix for 10.5.
We solved the problem by upgrading our server to 10.6. Not an elegant solution, but the finder crash is resolved.
