Finder, Desktop and Uploads!
My finder does not open up to the Desktop and I cannot find items. Also, when I try to upload a photo in FB or other sites, I cannot find the iPhoto libraries to upload photos. Can anyone help me with this?

If iPhoto opens the library you want upon launching, then nothing could be simpler. ⌘click (ie, hold down the ⌘ key and click) on the window's title bar, right where it says "iPhoto". A pop-up menu should pop up, showing the folder hierarchy where the library is located.

In iPhoto? In Finder? In any application? Can you describe the problem precisely?

It probably has no bearing on your problem, but are you sure you are in the right forum? MacBook Pro and Mac Pro are different computer platforms.

I need to find and upload a hidden file for an app service issue
I need to locate a hidden file, filename.plist which is on a networked drive, and upload it to the company;s wed=biste for the to support the app. Obviously 'filename' is just a word. there is a long and complex filename.
Finder spins its wheels uselessly when I ask it to search. The action gear thingy has no useful options to see hidden files that I can see. And the upload part of the website, while it lets me enter the filename in the search box, just spins uselessly, too.
The file is held on a networked freestanding drive. That isn't of itself, any real problem. I just need to find it and upload it so I can get support. I don;t mind using some utility to grab a copy of it somehow, and uploading that! BUT I am not hugely technical, so I need to be spoon fed.You can use Terminal to find the file you are looking for.
Let's say your network drive is named Net_Drive
find /Volumes/Net_Drive -name filename.plist
if you know the exact file name or
find /Volumes/Net_Drive -name *.plist
to search for all file names ending with .plist -

How to download and upload BDC programs from one instance to another instance? I would like to transport my BDC programs from one dev client to another Dev client not through transport like smartforms.(we can download smartforms to desktop and upload to someother client)

No need to record again. You can save the recording session by generating the program in transaction SHDB. Then you can download the BDC program and upload to another SAP client using transaction SE38.

I have a Apple Mac desktop and recently can no longer access Youtube, videos, movies, etc because I get a message reading "Blocked Plug-in". There's no error message but it does say to upload Abode Flash Player and the problem will be solved. I do this but it doesn't fix the problem. What am I doing wrong?
if you already downloaded the adobe flash player onto your mac and still getting that message that means you need to finish the installation of the flash player
you do this by opening a finder window and going to your downloads, find the flash player in here and then double click on it and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
after this is completed you will need to completely quit out of the web browser you're using then reopen it for the change to take affect and your issue should be resolved. if it's not you need to contact adobe their number is 800 642-3623. -
I am going to buy a Mac desktop and want to know how to transfer all my purchases and uploaded music from my PC. I originally started using iTunes on my PC so it has everything I have ever purchased or uploaded from my own collection of music.

Hi all
So I have lightroom on both my laptop and desktop and sync catalog through google drive.
I have been working on the desktop all week on edits of high res scan in lightroom.
Today i opened the program to find everything i have done for a week isn't there.
Help.
I feel it has synced to the last time i opened on my laptop and lost what ive on on the desktop.
any help much appreciated.
pI have no idea what happened, why you are seeing what you are seeing.
My only guess at finding the missing work is to look under File->Open Recent on both computers.
I do know that if you aren't making regular backups of your catalog file, and relying on synchronizing catalogs from one computer to another via the cloud, you are living very dangerously, and now you are possibly going to pay the consequences of not making regular backups. -
on my macbook pro the hard drive icon is not on my desktop and I don't know how to find the hard drive or get the icon back on my desktop
Click on the Desktop. From the Finder menu select Preferences. Check the boxes for what you want on your Desktop. If they are already checked, then try unchecking and rechecking.

I've been trying to do some cleanup on my mac, and somehow have removed my iPhoto from my desktop and can't get it back, i don't know how to get it back. I've had years of pictures on it and am going to be pretty hot if i can't get it back up.
Is it in your Applications Folder?

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List. -
I have recently upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now find that the upload photo to Facebook facility no longer works. I have reset Safari but this has not resolved the issue - any suggestions? I can click on the "upload photos/video" field and it takes me to Finder to select the photo - but on selecting the photo, the Finder screen disappears as normal but from then on nothing happens.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Now empty the Safari cache.
Back to the menu bar, click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try Facebook.
If that doesn't help, it may be a Safari extension preventing you from uploading content to Facebook.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall. -
My I phone was connected to my desktop to upload pictures, magically I tune activated and synced all my phone data and notes. I don't have Itune account.
This happened because you had not disabled automatic syncing in iTunes (so your phone synced when you connected it to your computer). If you haven't synced again since this happened you may be able to restore your phone to the backup created at the beginning of the sync process to recover your data. (If you have synced again the backup is already overwritten and your data is lost). To do this do the following:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences. On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Now connect your phone and import your photos if you haven't already done so (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083).
Now open iTunes and right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and select Transfer Purchases (to transfer any recent purchases to your iTunes library prior to restore from backup).
Right-click on the name of your phone again and select Restore from Backup, choose your most recent backup to restore from.
When complete, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing. -
My internal hard drive wont show on the desktop and is greyed out in the finder
My Internal drive will not show up on the desktop, and appears greyed out in the finder.
it shows up fine in disk utility and i have tried to repair permissions. This runs normally, there does not seem to be any problems with the drive itself.
if i unhide the hidden system folders using terminal, it appears on my desktop again, but greyed out.
any ideas how i can fix this?Try deleting the Finder .plists. You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences. Move the .plist(s) to your desktop.
Relaunch Finder and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the Finder is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
If that doesn't work, try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Hello. My hard disk is gone from my desktop and I can't find it in Finder as well. I tried logging into a different user account and it doesn't show up either. I don't know if a cache file in my first account might be the problem. Also if I try Shift>Command and press C, it is not there either I just see my network icon. Any help is appreciated.

I had to have my PC wiped clean and the OS re-loaded. I thought I backed up everything on my iTouch and iPad correctly, but when I try to sync, I'm getting a message that if I continue with the sync, I will lose everything on my device.
