Finder doesn't find everything

Hello,
I am working as a DJ and thought a MacBook Pro is the ultimate solution.
I have an External Harddrive with 1TB Music. Songs are organized in differend folders by Artists.
When I am searching one song I type a keyword in finder and let him search. Some songs the finder can find, some songs he can't.
So i made a test on a windows PC. Well windows searches about 30 seconds but find 10 different songs with the keyword i typed in the search field.
And my Mac find 0 Songs to this Keyword.
Why is this like that ?
Is there any plugin to find everything on it ?
I've tried the app pathfinder and easyfind but there is the same problem
And dear Apple....please let the Finder find everything in OSX Mavericks
I use a MacBook Pro Retina so my hardware can't be to old for this. and even a Windows XP can find all songs.

Whoa whoa no need to go restoring stuff yet, once you've done that check to verify you have done what Overlook2011  IF that doesn't work for calendars ensure your default account for calendars is set to iCloud and in calendars that it is told to "Show all calendars"

  • Spotlight does't find everything in Mail.app

    Morning.
If I want to find something in Mail.app and type the searches item into the search field of Mail.app, not all items containing the string will be found.
But if I search for the same item with the system wide Spotlight search I find it.
What can I do to enable Mail.app's built-in search to find everything in my emails what Spotlight finds easily?
    TIA and kind regards, Friedrich

  • Can't access files on my desktop through finder - everything greyed out.

On my home iMac whenever I navigate to my desktop through finder everything is greyed out with a little grey ring next to it. Its only an issue for navigating to the files through finder.

Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • Intranet Doesn't Display Everything

We have a couple of PCs that doesn't display everything on our intranet page. It doesn't matter who logs in, it does it for everyone. When I open the intranet, it libraries on the left like normal but the middle only shows Announcements, not our picture and Quick Links. Also, the links on the right side of the page only show a handful of the links we have. If the user clicks on the Home link above the libraries, it reloads and displays the page normally. Why would this only happen on select PCs, no matter who is logging in. This is SharePoint 2010 on SBS 2011.

    You're adding the artwork incorrectly.
Instead of selecting the first track of the album, select the complete album. Then select File/Get Info and answer "yes" to the "multpile items" question. The Artwork box is now on the Info tab instead of its own tab. Paste the artwork into that one box and that will add it to the whole album.
I can't be precise about the detail, but as far as I know, there will be one piece of artwork and iTunes and your iPod will refer to that one picture for each track, so it will not be taking up extra storage space.
Pasting the artwork into each track individually will drive you crazy - and I suspect it will take up extra space.
(If fellow "discussions user" tt2 adds to this post, I'm pretty sure he will confirm {or not if I'm wrong} what I've said about the extra space used if you paste into each track individually.)

  • How can I change Pages to another language so it doesn't underline everything?

How can I switch Pages to another language so it doesn't underline everything?
Also, how can I get a Pages document into iTunes for sharing?  That option doesn't appear when I click on Share.
    Thanks.

    Viajero,
Change the Language attribute of your text in Text Inspector, More tab, Language section.
Getting your documet into iTunes isn't necessary if you upgrade to Mountain Lion where you will have direct access to iCloud.

  • Finder "Find" doesn't find everything?

    (... that's a mouthful).
I am using the Find command to locate large documents, etc.
To so so, I selected "SIZE greater than 10MB" and I also added "Visibility - Visible or invisible"
When running the find however, it still does not locate at least one known item that is 150MB.
The item is a package located in /Users/<myname>/Documents/QEMU. I can plainly see it in the Finder via the documents folder, so I'm unclear why "Find" doesn't see it. I dont see anything indicating "Packages" are excluded from the Find...... or are they?
    Thanks,
    d.

    Hi, dc and AxL —
A mouthful, but also alluringly alliterative...
I agree with the allegation, but my strategy differs a bit from AxL's. I still use ⌘-F ~often — I simply don't fully depend on its "first-pass" results. 1st, I depend on keeping most of my stuff organized in a way that works for me. 2nd, I'll try one or two different approaches to defining a ⌘-F / Spotlight search — preferably within the "correct" folder's window. 3rd... actually, one of those works 99+% of the time for me... I think.
Despite its foibles, I consider Spotlight technology pretty cool — and look forward to seeing it evolve.
    Warm regards to you both,
    Dean
Btw, in this specific case, WhatSize 10.3.9 &/or OmniDiskSweeper 1.5 — both recently updated — can be useful...

  • 'Today' search in finder doesn't show everything

I've been trying to get a printer driver to work for a Lexmark Z605. When I run the installer I've downloaded from Lexmark it installs a load of files (lots of names pass quickly along with a progress bar) and I've been trying to work out where it puts them. I thought the 'Today' search in Finder would be a good way to do this, but it doesn't seem to pick up any of the recently created driver files. I've found some of them by hand, for example 'Z600SeriesPM.plugin' located in MacintoshHD>Library>Printers>Lexmark , clearly showing a modified date of today. But it doesn't show up in the 'Today' search.
I'm assuming some file types are excluded from the search? Is there any way of updating the search to find these files, I thought it would be really useful for this, but so far it's been no help at all.

By default the search function doesn't return System files, you must tell it if you want those files included, using the criterion drop down menu to select More, then select System Files from the list (if you add a check mark, it will appear in the drop down list from then on). Also, the canned Today search shows files only, not folders, and the search is for things with a "last opened date" that is today.
What is it you really want to do? I presume you just want the printer to work? You may be out of luck, Lexmark's download page doesn't even show support for that printer for anything beyond 10.4, and it has drivers for 10.1 and OS 9. Makes it sound like it is really really old.

  • Windows user switching to Mac, finding everything and how to?

Hi, I'm currently a Windows 7 user. I'm happy with windows but I could be happier!
I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 and I absolutly love how they work together (via iCloud etc) and also how everything looks and feels. One thing in my opinion that wipes W7 off the age is the fluidness of a Mac. Just how well and easily it works. As Steve Jobs said last year "it just works" and he's right!
Another big thing that I love about Mac is the connection between the iOS and OSX Lion (and upcoming Moutain Lion).
And I feel the need (or want) to switch to Mac because I want that connection with my mobile devices and my Laptop/ Home Computer.
But there's a few things that are stopping me from doing that and it's basically my lack of knowledge regarding OSX Lion etc...
It's simple things like Music. On windows, you press the start menu and you see music where you have all your folders regarding music (Albums, songs, or other audio) and also Photo's with all your photo albums etc etc etc...
Another thing holding me back is Software. For example, I burn a lot of CD's for DJ'ing. I use Nero 10 on my PC. Is there any Mac equivilant software that can let me name the CD, burn at different speeds etc etc....
It's simple things like that. I can't really find any video's on the internet showing me these kind of things.
I hope you can help. Thanks!!

  • How do I upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.0 everywhere I look I find everything but an upgrade to 10.5. I cant even hook my ipad up to the computer with out being on 10.5?

    Help

Check first to see if your iMac meet specs.
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    512MB of memory
    DVD drive for installation
    9GB of available disk space
If it does, backup your data first
    Purchase Leopard DVD and install
These DVD are no longer being sold be Apple so you will have to find it else where.

  • A Find expression to find everything in span tag

I imported word doc into my robohelp project and there is a lot of span tag junk i want to get rid of.
Is there an expression i can build in the "find and replace" tool that will find any span tag and its contents?
In the following example I want to delete the whole string including the brackets:
    <span style="letter-spacing: .05pt;">
    I'm thinking possibly a wildcard like: <span ***>
I don't see a wildcard option in robohelp help related to building find expressions.

    Humour me.
Create a Word document with a table that has a named style applied.
Create a Rh project with a table style given the same name. It does not have to look the same and it might be better if it does not, you will know whether or not the mapping is working.
Import making sure you map the table styles.
Do you still have unacceptable span tags?
If the above idea does not solve the problem, give me some examples of your span tags, especially the ones where your expression is not working. I will try to come up with something but it might take a day or two before I can get back to you.

  • Spotlight keeps searching after finding everything?

Since Snow Leopard I'm using Spotlight as an application launcher (previously I used QuickSilver). I will, for instance, enter "act" in the Spotlight menu and find Activity Monitor, then launch it. I notice however that a lot of disk activity remains, and it turns out to be Spotlight still searching minutes after I exited the menu.
I already rebuilt the index with "sudo mdutil -Eav" but this has no effect.
I found this post that was never resolved...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1782035&tstart=3165
Is this a bug or a feature? I'd hate to have to manually quit the search by clearing the search box every time I launch an application...

I'm having the exact same problem and it seems to have started after upgrading to SL.
When using the Spotlight menu search, the activity indicator keeps spinning and the disk keeps chugging away even after all possible results have been exhausted.
As a test, I turned off all of the categories in the Spotlight Preferences except for Applications folder. Yet, if I search for "Firefox", it still keeps churning the disk and spinning the indicator after finding the result.
I did notice that it eventually stopped after about ten minutes, but a second search for the same term resulted in the same delay.
    Odd.

  • Where can I find everything about sockets?

    hi,
i want to know everything about sockets (TCP), above all about all possible exceptions and when they are thrown. Until now, I can programm a normal chat programm. But sometimes I got problems with the sockets and then I solve them and I dont really know why. For example, it looks for me that if an outputstream of a socket is closed, the socket itself is closed. Well, I just need more infos about sockets, their streams, and exceptions (or maybe a good FAQ).
    thanx

MmM you open them you close them and the rest is history. You use maltithreads with them but that depends on what you are doing. Also you might want to check out orb (Object request brokers) if you are wanting to do high level of network programming that deals with alot of clients.
Also look into OMG (Object Manaement Group)and cobra
Just a few thoughts if you are intrested in network programming.I take it you are since you are wanting to know all you can about sockets.
    Good luck
