Finder doesn't show "Services" entry in context menu

Hi.
When I right click on anything in Finder using my account, I see a "Dienste" (Services?) submenu in the context menu.
From this submenu, I can also easily create new "Services" or Automator workflows.
When I use the account of my wife on this system, the submenu isn't there.
How do I get it to show up?
Thanks,
Alexander

You know, I was just fooling around with my Services, because I noticed several services I didn't want had appeared, so I went into Keyboard Shortcuts to turn them off. When I finished rather to my surprise the Services fly-out menu had disappeared! What was there instead were the 3 or 4 (depending on where I was when I right clicked) things that I actually sometimes do! Went back and turned on a couple of more Services (I did have to relaunch Finder to get some to activate), and the contextual menu was back to displaying Services with a flyout menu, which contained more than four items. So it looks like the following is the way it works:
1. If no service applies, there is no Services section in the Contextual menu
2. If there are 4 or fewer services that apply, the individaul services are listed in the menu
3. If there are more than 4 services that apply you get the Services entry with a flyout menu
I had thought that at some point I had had my services listed right there at the bottom of the contextual menu, but lately I was getting the Services fly-out, and thought perhaps I was confused. Glad to find out I remembered correctly!

  • Finder doesn't show network computer "Shared" in sidebar

I update 10.5.3 (05.28.08) and the Finder doesn't show all network computers at "SHARED" in sidebar except Windows PCs. I rebooted and seems fixed it.
now I can see all connected computers as 10.5.2,
but when I try to open a file from apps [command+o] (whatever apps is, I tried many as I can to check), again only shows PCs.
so I cannot access directly a file in other Mac on the network.
I tried put ~/Lib*/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist in the trash once, log out/in.
still only PCs and of course deleted all personal shortcut icons are gone. so I replace it from trash can.
log out/in. then again now only PCs..... rebooted .....
    any idea to fix it?
    thanks

After adding a couple of macs to my network, I had the same problem. Part of the issue was turning on file sharing as suggested, but I also had issues with the firewall settings on the MAC. I had my firewall set only allow essential services because I didn't want to leave it open to all connections. I changed the setting to set access for specific services and applications. I added nmdb, configd, mDNSResponder, krb5kdc. These live in /usr/sbin.
Since making those changes, this problem seems to have stabilized and things are working as they should.
    Hope this helps.

  • Finder doesn't show image dimensions

    Hi!
I have a problem with image dimensions in Finder. Finder doesn't show image dimension info in preview column and Get Info window. But when I open in Preview app I can see dimensions in Get Info window. How to solve this problem. If I want to sort images by dimension, I can't do that. Because Finder doesn't know image dimensions. You can see images below.

    Terence Devlin wrote:
That's because the Finder is a file manager and works from file metadata. The data you're seeking is about the file contents. You need to use a Photo Manager or Browser.
There is someone who can sort images by dimensions and see dimensions in list view. Also if Finder will not show image dimensions, why give me "Dimensions" and "Resolution" option to select in list view.
    VikingOSX wrote:
Launch a Finder window. Press command+J, and set Show Item Info. Now the image dimensions will show below each image icon. If it is a movie, then the duration of the movie is shown.
I have done this. But doesn't show information.

  • Finder Doesn't Show External Firewire, But Pathfinder Does

    Hey Folks,
Am hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I've been using Pathfinder for a while, but have wanted to switch back to the normal Finder of late. My only hitch is that, for some reason, the Finder doesn't show an external firewire drive I've got running, while Pathfinder does.
The drive is available -- when I go into terminal, the drive is listed. Again, it's just not showing up in the drive list in the Finder.
Any thoughts? I tried dumping my Finder prefs, but that didn't seem to work.
    Cheers,
    Anthony

Finder->Preferences->General->cycle HDs to show on Desktop. If not, launch Disk Utility->select the FWHD and unmount it. Turn its power off, disconnect the FW cable, and shutdown the machine for five or so minutes. Restart the machine, reinstall the FW cable, and power it up.

  • Finder doesn't show any windows

    Hi,
Recently I got a strange problem, sometime Finder doesn't show any window, I mean if I click on the Finder icon on the Dock no window is shown. Even if I kill Finder (via Terminal using "killall Finder"), also using ⌘+TAB or the App exposuré gesture there is no way to see the Finder window. The only fix is to restart the system!
And I also noticed (this is happen always) that when I copy/move a file the progress bar message box is not shown anymore, I see only the progress in the Finder panel over the file name!
    Thank you.

Yes, menu bar was visible, honestly I didn't try to use ⌘+N, anyway I used ⌃+Click on the Finder icon (on the Dock) and even if I was able to see the list of Finder windows that were open I wasn't able to switch clickin on it. I've also tried to click on "New windows" (that I think should be the same as press ⌘+N) but no window was shown.
    Thanks.

  • I Installed InDesign and it doesn't show up in my tools menu in Bridge

I Installed InDesign and it doesn't show up in my tools menu in Bridge. I tried reinstalling the application as well as ran updatez for all my adobe products. Does anyone have any idea why it isn't there?

I was wondering the same thing. Does it have something to do with not have the full CS3 Suite installed?

  • Music plays in iTunes, but Finder doesn't show them

Okay this is wierd and I don't know if it belongs to iTunes or to HFS+.
When I start iTunes, I can see my whole library of about 50'000 songs. In the finder, at the same time, I see maybe 30 or 40 artists, way less than I have songs. Now, say, for example, in iTunes, I see "a-ha" as artist. In the finder windows that shows the directory where my music is, I don't see a-ha. Now, if I do a Get Info on a song of a-ha, suddenly, a-ha appears in the Finder. With exactly this album and exactly this song. If I Get Info of another song, that one appears too. Funny enough, with the correct creation dates and everything, as if that song always there and from there after, it is there. But not before. I do a daily backup to another disk (just copying, no mirroring), funny enough, that other disk behaves exactly the same: it doesn't show my music anymore.
If I open a terminal console, its the same: I don't see anything anymore there, but the according to Disk Utility, the amount of items on that disk is about correct. Does anyone have a clue what's happening here? I already verified both disks, no errors. They are attached using USB and each is part of a single 3TB concantenated RAID.

Sounds to me like you might have disk directory problems. Try using disk utility to repair the disk (use repair instead of verify - just in case). If not, you might want to buy and try diskwarrior.
Have you tried rebooting? If not, try that first.
Also, try "right clicking" (or control-clicking) on a song, and select show in finder from the drop down menu - is the file where you think it should be?

  • Finder doesn't show file saved in certain folder

Something very strange is happening to my mac.
In my Documents folder there is a folder named "CV". Whenever I try to save files to this destination (CV), these files won't show (at least immediately --- let's say in the next minutes) in the folder. BUT if I search for them in the finder, here they are! I can find them, open them...
If I save the same files to another location (the Documents folder, the Desktop), they are immediately saved to the specified destination.
Can anyone explain what is happening?

OK, let me give you 5+10 points and mark this problem solved!
Thanks! I think that maybe it'sreally like you said - that some apps maybe prompted and today I noticed that the Finder doesn't, and got confused...

  • G5 starts, but Finder doesn't show up

Hey, everybody. My Photoshop unexpectedly quit, so I restarted my G5 (10.4)
Upon restart, I got my desktop picture and dock, but nothing else. No Finder. No desktop icons. No top menu bar. Safari and Mail work, but iChat and iTunes do not.
I've restarted from the OSX disk, and repaired permissions, but that didn't help
I'm currently rebuilding the drive using Disk Warrior.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts as to why or how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Emily

a bit of progress on trying to fix my issue:
got the mac os x install disc and started up on that tried to repair disk but got an error:
    Volume Bitmap needs minor repair
    Checking Volume information
    Invalid volume free block count
(it should be 828883 instead of 818180)
    Repairing Volume
The Volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired
Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
    Repair attempted on 1 volume
1 volume could not be repaired"
Luckily i had an other computer and target disked it to that, copied my most important stuff. I also saw that a folder was created called "Damaged Files" on Macintosh HD with all shortcuts to files that were probably damaged - about 944 of them. Most of the files I had recently used but some not in years. I started to delete them all manually following the shortcuts, I left the important files in the system and library alone though.
Then all of a sudden the "show original" link was not working anymore (don't know why), decided to try to repair the disk again and it worked!! YAY i'm all happy, restart the computer but just to see that nothing has changed - finder still doesn't work, background is the original maac os x one now (deleted the other backgrounds).
Long story short - still no luck on getting the finder back.

  • Finder doesn't show recent pictures anymore

My finder does not show pictures anymore that are imported in iTunes in the last months. What to do? This problem started some weeks ago.
    iMac 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    MacAlf
Does iPhoto show them? If so, right click on a photo and select 'Show File'. This will open a finder window with the file highlighted.
If you want to access a file Drag and drop it to the Desktop, this will create a copy of the file there. Or you can use File -> Export, which will also create a copy.
Remember, iPhoto is a database, and like all databases is designed so that you access the data - in this case your pictures - via the application, not through the Finder.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
A Note about the iPhoto Library Folder in v6:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
Inside each of these folders there will be rolls arranged based on date.
If iPhoto doesn't show them, then they have not been successfully imported.
Hope this helps. If it doesn't. I suggest that you try the iPhoto Forum.
    Regards
    TD

  • Finder doesn't show file delete warning message

I think that some time ago when I deleted any file or folder in the Finder, it showed me warning message... Now when I select file and press Command+Backspace (Delete), file goes immediately to the Trash without any warning message. Is this correct or there had to be some warning? I looked in Finder's preferences, but couldn't find any check-box for that... If there should be a warning message, how can I restore it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Finder doesn't show USB drive

I have a USB drive that doesn't show up in Finder after I insert it. A different drive does show up in Finder.
Both drives work perfectly well on my PC.
Any idea what could be wrong?

    HI rs,
Did the USB external drive come with any software? If it did, that would be the drivers. Reinstalling the drivers could do the trick, as they can become corrupted.
Check your Finder preferences to make sure you have this box checked:
click any clear space on your Desktop so it says Finder in the Menu. Click Finder/Preferences.
When the pane opens make sure where it says: Show these items on the Desktop: The "Hard disks" box is checked.
Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. DU is located here: Applications/Utilities.

  • Finder doesn't show new folders/files

I've just created some new folders and files using the "save as" dialog from within Photoshop CS 8.0. Irritatingly, they don't show up in Finder. I can find them using the File>Open dialog in PS, or using, for example, Transmit.
This seems like a very basic function of Finder which is clearly BROKEN.
Changing views/directories/windows etc in Finder doesn't help, nor does quitting PS.
Any hints on how to remedy and/or report this to Apple would be welcome.

It finally occurred to me to relaunch Finder (duh!) and now it shows the new files/folders.

  • Finder doesn't show some files after several days of uptime

It is several days my MacBook Pro is turned on:
    $ uptime
    11:08  up 10 days, 12:02, 2 users, load averages: 1.12 0.80 0.60
and Finder is starting to behave strange...
the first thing I noticed is that it doesn't show anymore the contents of application packages (ie. right click on a .app and click Show Contents, shows an empty finder window, like there were no files, but from Terminal I'm able to see contents).
also some other files are not visible. for instance I just downloaded a file in Safari, but I can't see it in its folder with Finder, but I can see it and open it with Terminal.
before trying a reboot, what could I do to solve this issue?
perhaps restart Finder? but what is the correct way of restarting it? killall Finder (or some signal other than SIGTERM)?

To restart Finder, hold the option key whilst "right-clicking" (or two-fingered tap on a trackpad), on the Finder option in the Dock.
You will see an option to "relaunch".  Select it, and Finder will restart.
