Finder doesn't stop opening and closing!
Help!
I was playing Sims 2 (an addiction) a few minutes ago, and I took some video captures. When I tried opening and viewing them on Quicktime, OS X started acting up. Finder won't stop opening and closing now, it opens and closes almost instantly. It all started happening when I tried opening Quicktime. I tried searching Apple.com, and the web for answers and I haven't had any luck. My system's specs are:
Mac Mini 1.42Ghz
1GB of RAM (recently installed)
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.7
At the time the problem occured, I was running AIM, Sims 2, and Quicktime. This has never happened before. I tried Shutting Down and coming back again but it kept doing it. I removed the Sims 2 CD and shut down and after awhile turned it back on, still on going. Right now the computer went into Screen Saver mode and I can see the cursor blinking in and out...
Please help this is really frustrating...

See if you can boot up in safe mode. To do so, restart and hold down the shift key until it boots. It will take longer to boot because it will be running a file system check while booting so be patient.
If that helps try rebooting again the normal way.
If the problem comes back when you boot the normal way then reboot in to safe mode again and then try deleting the finder preferences file. Instructions on how to do this are available here:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/finder.html
I would then do some basic maintenance on your Mac as outlined in the following FAQ, just to be on the safe side.

This is how I fixed it:
Simply remove all the .pllist files with X11 in them in the preference folder (2 in my case) and then quit the X11 app.

Re: My x11 is malfunctioning.
Mar 9, 2013 2:16 PM (in response to chltjdtn)
Had this same problem. XQuartz would not start working after a complete reinstall of X11, or reboot, repair permissions etc. Ended up realizing it was a User specific problem, so I removed the X11 .plist files from ~/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences. I don't remember the exact names of the two .plist files I removed, but they were org.x11.pllist or something along those lines. Once I removed these two files and rebooted XQuartz the skies parted and X11 worked. Hope this helps!

After opening and closing 19-20 PDFs in 8.1.6 Acrobat stops working
I have just started getting Acrobat errors '..has stopped working' after opening 19-20 PDFs (individually opening and closing each separately) which causes Acrobat to stop working and displaying PDFs, even any of the 19-20 PDFs, that opened fine beforehand, stop opening. Only by restarting Windows, does it seem to clear this error. I have maintained my updates and patches, on both my Acrobat Professional and Reader 8.1.6.
I am Running Windows XP SP2, with 4Gbs or Memory, and no other programs except for my MS outlook 2007 running. I have MS Office 2007 Professional installed. Something also from Acrobat is interferring with Outlook. Is there an add-on, automatically installed in Outlook for PDF previews? I suspect it might have something to do with the aspect of Acrobat causing the errors and crashing of Acrobat, but I am only guessing. I have also run Antivrus scans on all my PDFs and found no problems with them.Hi Michael,
Thank you for your suggestion. I did uninstall both, and reinstall Pro, and restarted my system. However, that did not solve my problem. Thank you though.
Sincerely

I was in full screen mode and now that I have exited, the main toolbar for Safari is gone. So please don't say go to View. Each time I click off of safari to the desktop, it shows me the Finder Toolbar. I have opened and closed Safari many many times.
No no, if you read what I said, it would be that each individual display would be customizable to the user. The way you have it, it sounds like your second display will be dedicated to scrolling through fullscreen apps not allowing you to do it on the home screen. This is silly because with my concept, you could do that, by dragging apps to fullscreen in your second display, but if you want you could tell another display to scroll through fullscreen apps (independently) if you wanted. Each display will have it's own mission control with it's own set of desktops. I also can see how some people would still want them linked together, so this could just be a little check box made in mission control prefs to "link" or "unlink" desktops with link checked by default.
With your solution you're limited to your setup. but what if the person has three or four displays? Well then your solution would limit them to one dedicated display that scrolls through fullscreen apps where mine lets a person customize their desktops depending on their preference and setup.
further example: if you have safari, address book and mail in one display, you could still have ichat, PS and Illustrator in your second, and a text editor, FTP Client and iTunes in your third. Then you would mix and match these apps but it would promote the use of mulitple displays as well as benefit people with three or more, which thunderbolt, Cinema Display and Pro computers support. -
I have some doubts/questions .
What is the difference between open and closed cursor?
Are library cache locks same as parse locks?
What is the difference between latch and mutex?
I would be grateful if experts could answer these questions.
RegardsAlmost correct. The terminology is however nor correct.
Simplistically:
The SQL engine receives a SQL. It attempts a soft parse first. This means looking for an existing cursor in the Shared Pool with the same SQL. This existing cursor can be in use by other sessions. It does not matter - if that cursor is in used (opend by other sessions), or not. It may not be in use at all and simply sitting there in the cache. If such a cursor is found, it is used for that session's SQL - and that session gets a cursor handle (reference/pointer) to that existing cursor.
If the SQL engine does not find an existing cursor to use, it needs to create a brand new cursor in the Shared Pool. This is a hard parse. Again, the session receives a cursor handle for that new cursor created.
And that is it.
You now need to decide how to use that cursor handle. The cursor itself is a program. You have a handle to execute that cursor program. Via its bind interface you can input data to this cursor program. Then execute it and receive (fetch) output of that cursor program.
So the ideal is to re-use the cursor handle again and again.
Basic example: the following is not optimal as the same cursor is opened and closed, opened and closed, for each read from the file. A lot of soft parsing results.
while not-eof( filehandle ) // read data from a file
read file data into var1, var2
open cursor for 'insert into testtab values( :1, :2)' // create a cursor
bind cursor :1 = var, :2 = var2 // bind values to cursor (for insert)
exec cursor // do SQL insert
close cursor
end whileThis is a lot better. A single cursor is used and executed again and again:
open cursor for 'insert into testtab values( :1, :2)' // create a cursor
while not-eof( filehandle ) // read data from a file
read file data into var1, var2
bind cursor :1 = var, :2 = var2 // bind values to cursor (for insert)
exec cursor // do SQL insert
end while
close cursor In this case a single soft/hard parse - and the client uses that cursor handle to execute that cursor (insert data) program again and again. -
Ipod generation 1 apps opening and closing instantly with software version
I have a Ipod Touch generation 1 and have just downloaded version 3.1.3 upgrading from 1.1.5. I am now having a problem with all the apps that I have downloaded from the App store through the IPOD. The apps are opening and closing instantly.
Any comments?
Thank you for any advise and or help!By a reset, I believe he is referring to holding down the Home button and the Sleep button both at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen. Ignore the "slide to power off" option that might come up. This process generally takes about 5-15 seconds to see the logo, then about another minute or so after that for the reset to complete.
Now, as for the issue you are seeing, if the reset doesn't resolve it, it might be the same thing I have seen on other iPods. Almost all (if not all) I have seen with this problem have been when the owner unplugged the iPod from their computer before the sync process had fully completed. This seems to leave the iPod app directory structure in some "confused state". Every time I have seen this happen, I have been able to resolve the issue by deleting an app from the device, then re-downloading it using the App Store app on the iPod (while connected to a wifi network). To play it safe, I generally use a free app.
Don't ask me why, but the downloading of an app directly from the device itself seems to reset the iPod app structure and the other apps generally resume wirking properly... -
I am an electrical engineering student who has been assigned a project
with LabView. All that I have learned with LabView has been
self-taught (slowly and painfully I should add). I would like to open
a subVI front-panel that I have created, and then close the subVI so
that I may return to my original front panel, or move onto a next
subVI. (The operation would be similar to any Windows base program
were panels are opened and closed)
I have tried various settings on the "SubVI node setup..." but have not
had this work successfully. If anyone could offer any help, that would
be GREATLY appreciated.Pardon me for jumping in on this thread -
I found this discussion useful in performing the same task of showing a
sub-VI front panel when it was called, but I have run into
problems.
Within a while loop, the sub-VI is called when a boolean control is
switched to true. The sub-VI merely takes two clusters and
displays them on a chart. I arranged the properties of the
sub-VI to show front panel when called and close front panel when
finished. I am assuming that it is finished when I go back to the
main window and switch the boolean control back to false.
However, the window doesn't close when I switch this to false.
Occasionally, the sub-VI also flickers, which I assume is a result of
the while loop around the case structure.
This sounds confusing, let me know if you want more than just a picture
of the VI, or if a picture of the sub-VI in question would be useful.

Issue with opening and closing 13 inch MBP
I recently received a 13 inch 8gb memory Macbook pro for educational purposes. Although I believe it is overall a great product, I have noticed an issue pertaining to opening and closing the device. Occasionally when I attempt to open the device, I notice that the black mechanism which attaches the display and keyboard together fails, or locks up in an unusual manner which prevents me from opening the device fully. This causes me to have to close the device, and open it once more. Although it doesn't appear to be a huge issue, I was wondering if this should be something of concern, or something that is common and is nothing to be worried about.
Although this isn't something that I've personally seen before, I probably wouldn't be too concerned if it doesn't look like anything is actually broken - assuming that it didn't cause issues with using the device, that is.
What might be a good idea, though, is if you have a few minutes and have an ARS nearby, is to make a Genius Bar appointment and let Apple take a quick look at it. It looks like some piece of mind is all you want, and given the scenario, having someone physically able to see/feel the issue is probably your best bet. The appointments are 15 minutes, and free of charge. You can make an appointment here.

When you use the analytic SUM (c) function, then, on each row, it returns the values of column (or expression) c from several rows in the result set added together.
Which rows? That depends.
If the analytic clause (the part in parentheses after OVER) does not include ORDER BY, then it is all rows.
If the analytic clause has an ORDER BY clause, but no windowing clause (that is, ROWS BETWEEN ... or RANGE BETWEEN ...), then the rows included in the sum are all rows up to and including the row where the function is being called (as sorted by the analytic ORDER BY).
If the analytic cluase has both ORDER BY and a windowing clause "ROWS BETWEEN x PRECEDING AND y PRECEDING", then the rows included in the sum are the rows from x to y rows before the one where the function is called.
Do some experiments with different values of x and y.
First, create a table like the one in the problem above, but simplified a little.
CREATE TABLE test_sum
( period NUMBER
, new_amt NUMBER
INSERT INTO test_sum (period, new_amt) VALUES (24108, 1);
INSERT INTO test_sum (period, new_amt) VALUES (24109, 4);
INSERT INTO test_sum (period, new_amt) VALUES (24110, 2);
INSERT INTO test_sum (period, new_amt) VALUES (24111, 8);
INSERT INTO test_sum (period, new_amt) VALUES (25001, 32);
INSERT INTO test_sum (period, new_amt) VALUES (25002, 16);
COMMIT;The original problem above used names that were meaningful for its application, and columns that have nothing to do with the SUM function. Let's simplify the former and lose the latter.
That problem involved the SUM of three columns added together. Since we just want to understand how the windowing clause works, let's simplify that to one column.
With these simplifications, my original query is:
SELECT period
, new_amt
, SUM (new_amt) OVER ( ORDER BY period
ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING
AND 1 PRECEDING
) AS opening_balance
, SUM (new_amt) OVER ( ORDER BY period
) AS closing_balance
FROM test_sum
ORDER BY period;Given the data above, it produces these results:
. PERIOD NEW_AMT OPENING_BALANCE CLOSING_BALANCE
24108 1 1
24109 4 1 5
24110 2 5 7
24111 8 7 15
25001 32 15 47
25002 16 47 63So, for example, on the row where period=24110,
opening_balance=5, which is the total of new_amt from all rows up to but not including that row: 5=1+4, and
closing_balance=7, which is the total of new_amt from all rows up to and including that row: 7=1+4+2.
To really understand how the windowing clause works, do some experiments. Change the definition of opening_balance to include " BETWEEN x PRECEDING AND y PRECEDING". You'll find that:
(a) "UNBOUNDED PRECEDING" means the same as "n PRECEDING", where n is greater than the number of rows in your result set.
(b) "CURRENT ROW" means the same as "0 PRECEDING"
(c) x must be greater than or equal to y
(d) neither x nor y can be negative (but you can use "FOLLOWING" instead of "PRECEDING" to get the same effect).

When you're finished, don't forget to
DROP TABLE test_sum; -
Insert and update query to calculate the opening and closing balance
create table purchase(productid number(5) ,dateofpurchase date,
qty number(5));
create table inventory(invid number(5),productid number(5),
idate date,openingqty number(5),closingqty number(5));
Records in inventory:
1,1,'01-jan-2009', 10, 20
2,1,'03-jan-2009', 20, 30
3,1,'04-jan-2009', 40, 50
when I enter the purchase invoice for 15 qty on 02-jan-2009
after say '15-jan-09' , a new record should get inserted
with opening balance = (closing balance before 02-jan-2009)
and all the opening and closing balance for that product should
get affected.
If the invoice for 20 qty is entered for the existing date say
'03-jan-2009' in inventory , then the closing balance
for 03-jan-2009 should get updated and all the following records
should get affected.
I need the insert for the first one and update query for the
second one.
Vinodh<strike>You can do this in one statement by using the merge statement</strike>
Hmm, maybe I spoke too soon.

Thinking about it, why do you want to design your system like this?
Why not simply have your purchases table hold the required information and then either work out the inventory on the fly, or have a job that calls a procedure to add a row for the previous day?
If you continue with this design, you're opening yourself up to a world of pain - what happens when the data doesn't match the purchases table? Also when is the inventory cut-off to reset the opening/closing balances? Monthly? Annually? Weekly? If it's set to one of those, what happens when the business request the inventory for a particular week?

PDF files opening and closing slowly in Acrobat version 9.5.2.
I am running Acrobat 9.5.2. Last week our server died at work and we converted to a new one. Since then pdf files have been opening and closing very slowly, sometimes taking 15+ seconds to close. Strangely enough, if you open and close several in a row then they usually open and close quickly with some exceptions, but if you wait 10+ seconds and then try to open or close one it takes forever. This happens whether or not the machine is connected to the server.
I tried to do a repair, however it said that it could not connect to the my documents folder at the old server location. When I originally installed Acrobat, it was done through my University and not while I was even connected to my work server, so that is confusing to me. Please help, as I use pdf's constantly and this is really slowing me down.It doesn't seem like an Acrobat problem per se but a problem with they way your computer is configured to reach the new server. Perhaps you need to have someone come and look at how your computer is configured to reach the new server. It could also be a problem with how the university configured their server. Server issues are something that cannot easily to diagnosed remotely.

According to vendor opening and closing
hi group i want to find opening and closing quantities according to the vendor and movement types.
now here i am taking the data from mkpf and mseg.
when the user enters a date for eg : user enters 20.10.2004 then to find the closing i am taking all the MBLNR less than this date and then adding them according to some criiteria.
now the problem comes that when i find the data like this way means all data less than that particular date. then obviously my performance will go down by a great margin.
so is there any alternative to it.
guys did u understand my problem or i should describe it more.

The camera on my iPhon 4s is not working correctly. It is colored all strange and the shutter keeps opening and closing trying to fix the problem but it cant. I have already reset my phone and turned it off and on again. How do I fix this??
If resetting the camera app doesn't work you can try restoring your iPhone's software. The entire process takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Make sure you do a backup. Make sure you do a backup.

FF5.01 for Windows deletes and blocks cookies if other browser-window is opened and closed
Recently (five days ago, before that FF worked fine) my FF5.01 for Windows has started to delete cookies if other FF-window is closed (and that way I get "logged out" from sites I've been logged in) and FF also rejects all cookies after that which prevents re-login to sites, closing all FF-windows helps until other FF-window is opened and closed then cookie-deleting and rejecting starts again. No problems on 5.0 for Windows (32bit).
Hi detroitdecay !
