Finder edit menu

Cut command is listed but not available whenever I open this menu or use the proper key combination. Can you help me please?
And, how can I add this command to the context menu?
Thanks!

Hi TaMaxx
Welcome to Discussions.
Cut can only work if first something is copied, that is why it is greyed.
If you are using Text Edit, and highlight some text, you can mouse click + control to show Cut Copy Paste on that contextual menu, but there is little advantage doing that, because it is still two actions, the same number required when doing Command + X or C or V.
Similarly a contextual menu also requires two actions, so I can't see any advantage in having it on a contextual menu that would be faster than using the standard;
Command + X to Cut
Command + C to Copy
Command + V to Paste.
Also you may find benefit in clicking on a word to automatically select it.

The "FIND" feature in the Edit menu does not work. I cannot search a page. If I am looking for the word "Doctor" and I know it is on the page. All I get after typing the first letter is that the typing box turns red.
    This is not fun.

Make sure that <b>[] "Match case"</b> on the Find bar (Ctrl+F) doesn't have a check-mark.

  • Saw a poss solution to my prob of loosing tab groups when closing firefox It read ". Edit Preferences Privacy "I can't find prefernces under the edit menu"

I saw a poss solution to my prob of loosing tab groups when closing firefox It read ". Edit > Preferences > Privacy "I can't find references under the edit menu" so cannot attempt the fix offered?

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    See also:
App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • The Find command on the Edit menu doesn't work. No window in which to enter the word(s) I wish to find opens up.

When I go to edit and click find no window opens and so I can not enter the word(s) that I am searching for on the webpage. The same result comes with using Ctrl+f. Infact, when I click on the edit menu, I noticed that Find is not followed by the usual .... Does that mean that the Find feature is not part of this newer version of Firefox and if so why?

If you use Edit > Find or Ctrl+F then you should see a Find bar at the bottom of the browser window. Current Firefox versions do not show a pop-up window.

  • I just happened to update the iOS 5.0.1(9A405) for my iPhone4 to find out that the "Contacts" had no "Edit" menu. Can anyone help ?

After I updated my iPhone4 (from iOS 4.3.5) to iOS 5.0.1(9A405), all my apps were gone out blank. I had to reinstall the apps that I frequently used in pain. What drove me mad is the "Contacts" in my phone no longer has the "Edit" menu! Besides, the "Groups" menu has nothing at all, but "blank". That made the "Contacts" idle. Does anybody know how to master this sort of bugs? Thanks a lot for your concern - and please help the idiot user like me for the sake of Christmas spirits.

On a Windows 7 computer I installed Firefox 9.0.1 and in my edit menu I have NO Preferences at the bottom, so there is no way to adjust any settings The edit menu opens up and I have undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, delete, select all, find....but NO Preferences at the bottom. This is a new laptop and nothing like skype is installed. The Firefox install is new today 1/6/12

    Hi bruce,
What are you actually looking for? On Windows 7 your options will be under ''Tools > Options''. If you have the ''Firefox'' menu, you can hit ''Alt'' to temporarily enable the menu bar.
Your System details say Linux. Your say you are on Windows 7 though, correct?

  • I would like to change my Short Name. But no edit menu in the directory to choose root.

Like the title says, pretty self explanatory. I bought this MacBook from a friend of mine and her name is still on the Home Icon (short name). I get the idea of how to change it but once I get to the Directory Utility to enable the Root User, I find that there is NO edit menu. So now I'm somewhat at an impasse on how to do this so I've decided to come here for some help. Sorry if this has been asked a million times, I've gone through some other topics somewhat similar and nothing remotely came close to this issue. I find it odd that I don't have an Edit Menu in the DU. If there is a different way to this then please let me know, if not then please walk me through this. Thanks!

Have a look at this link - hopefully it sorts it out for you...

  • "Edit Menu in Photoshop" not working?

If you have installed a new version of Photoshop, you may find that the command to "Edit Menu in Photoshop" no longer works.
The fix for this is simple. Just re-associate the .PSD extension with the new version of Photoshop.
You can do this in a couple of ways (all versions of Windows).
1 - Find a folder with a .PSD file in it.
Right-click the file, and choose the "Open With" dialogue.
Select the new installation of PhotoShop, and make sure that the check-box for "Always use this programme" is ticked.
Click on Open, and from now on all PSD files should be associated with the new installation. Some systems might require a restart to lock the association in.
    2 - Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Folder Options.
Click on the tab marked "File Types".
Scroll down to the PSD type, and set the "open" command to the new installation of Photoshop.
    That will do it.

    Andy,
I think that Jeff got the problem handled, but this is something that we will all be living with for some time - dead links to FAQ's, other articles and the like. Stanely Jones had done a good job of finding many of the "lost" articles from the previous forum changeover. Don't know if he'll be motivated to do it all over again.
I would like to think that Adobe has someone working on getting some of the old stuff back, or at least re-linked. Right now, the various search engines still have the old dead links in most of their searches. I guess that it will take the 'bots a while to catch up, if they ever do.
At least Jeff & Neil have gotten some of the FAQ's back up and working. Good job!

  • "Edit Menu in Photoshop" function is not working anymore due to new install of Photoshop.

I had Photoshop 7.0 installed on my system, and the "Edit Menu in Photoshop" function would bring up Photoshop 7.0, no problem.
    I then installed Photoshop CS3.
When I pressed the "Edit Menu in Photoshop" button, it would still bring up the old Photoshop 7.0. Then I uninstalled Photoshop 7.0. Now, when I press the button, I get, "Could not edit in Photoshop. Photoshop does not appear to be installed."
Does anybody know where I can configure Encore (CS3), so that it will recognize Photoshop CS3? If not, what do I need to do to make this work (uninstall and install Encore?)

  • "Edit Menu in Photoshop" - just lost 2hrs of work

Well, I clicked the "Edit Menu in Photoshop" option in Encore CS3 and reluctantly went to work on my menu in Photoshop since Encore doesn't have the basics of menu design options.
I saved my menu constantly in Photoshop, but didn't think to save it under a different filename since I figured it would save *something* to the hard disk anyway for me to find later.
I switched back to Encore and since nothing had changed there, I closed the project and thought re-opening might show me my updated menu. I was wrong.
I just lost two hours of work. I tried to open the "recently opened" file, but no, it was some sort of temp file that doesn't exist anymore.
Anyone have an idea of how to get this back? And how am I supposed to update my Encore menu so that it shows the Photoshop modifications?
    Thanks
    Prizm

    Prizm4,
First thing that I'd do is Open PS, then File>Open Recent. You should see the TMP Menu file in that list, as it Opened from Encore. Open it, and see what state it is in. Ideally, it should be up to date, from when you did the Save.
As Joe points out, the TMP file is created by Encore, then Opened in PS. Save (or Ctrl-s) should save this file and link it back to Encore. In CS2, I encountered some problems (as did others), where hitting Save (and/or Ctrl-s) did NOT update in Encore. Remember, this was in CS2. The workaround for me was to Save several times (sounds like you did that). I'd usually have my Layer Sets open, and Ctrl-s, close the Layer Sets and Ctrl-s. Though it was a few added keystrokes and not the perfect workflow, it always worked for me. A few times, it took a moment for Encore to finally update to the revised file.
I assumed that this was a little glitch between PS and Encore2 in CS2. It also did not happen THAT often, but enough, that the multiple Ctrl-s became a habit of mine.
I never saw anyone, who could this this malfunction 100% of the time. I also did not find any commonality between systems (either HW, or SW conflicts) to indicate that some component was causing this. I also could not find much in MY workflow to suggest why some Menus did this. Most often they were variations of Library Menu Assets. I did notice that I had more of these glitches when working from a "template" Project, that only had AV Assets changed (Save_As Projects from the original "template.) and then the Menus changed to match the new Assets. Notice that I put "template" in quotation marks so one will not confuse Template with "template" in Encore. In my case, 95% of the Menus did just what they should going to/from PS out of Encore2. There were those pesky 5%, however that things did not go, as designed.
I would have assumed that CS3 had gotten around whatever was causing this, but as it was not 100% repeatable, maybe not.
When I'd go the "normal" Save route, and it would not "take," Opening the TMP (Files>Open Recent) always got me back in PS. Multiple Ctrl-s always did the trick. Seems that 3 was the magic number, when it was not working, as it should.
If you do a Save_As, you will have to Import_As Menu into Encore and then probably want to Delete your "other" Menu.

Maybe something else will strike you as useful.

  • More Submenu is Missing in Finder Context Menu

The tutorial on how to use automator at
    http://macosxautomation.com/automator/examples/ex03/index.html
    has the following paragraph
At the bottom of the Finder Contextual Menu is a sub-menu named More. Choose Automator > Create Workflow... from the sub-menu. A new Automator window will open, displaying a workflow that begins with an action that lists the items that were selected in the Finder.
More submenu is missing on my Snow Leopard. Is there any other way to get the same functionality besides opening Automator directly.
My main concern is how do I know that I have Automator workflow assigned to the folder that's applied every time when I add files.

For a Service, they are stored in your user/Library/Services. You should also have a Workflows folder in Library. I couldn't tell if I was just putting them there or that was the default. Mine is organized by Applications, and inside that there is a Folder Actions folder.
For your example, did you create a Folder Action for the Trash folder? What file does it update the modification date for?
For your question about know what it is working on, there are various ways to designate the files that it acts on depending on the type of workflow it is. A service passes whatever was right-clicked, including a multiple selection. In a standard workflow you would use a particular action like Get Selected Finder Items or Get Specified Finder Items. In a Folder Action, it gets what was added to the folder. The Automator interface only works on Adding, but if you use Applescript, you can create a folder action that handles Opening, closing, or moving a folder window, and when deleting files from a folder.

  • Edit menu help

    Hello friends,
I am developing web based flex application , which contains a menubar and few textinput controls. In the menu bar i have edit menu which includes cut, copy, paste, find, replace. The keyboard shortcut and context menu item for cut, copy, paste of the textinput are working fine. But i need to implement this funtionalties(cut, copy, paste, find, replace)in my custom menubar. How can i do this?.Please suggest me some good ideas and examples.
    Regards
    Heman

Ratsnackbar, thanks for your input, but thats not quite what
    I'm looking for.
Pretty much this is what I want to do is create an event and
dispatch it so it mimics the context menu item select for Cut,
    Copy, etc...
    For example...
    var myEvent:ContextMenuEvent = new ContextMenuEvent();
    myEvent.type = ContextMenuEvent.MENU_ITEM_SELECT;
    myEvent.
    ... etc...
    [handle on object/menu].dispatchEvent(myEvent);
I need to know what the correct events I need to dispatch and
what the handle is to the default context menu.
    Thanks.

  • My screen is magnified on full and i can't find the menu bar and the doc.

My screen is mangified on full and i can't find the menu bar and the dock.

    Hello, Melorw44.
Try pressing the <esc> (Escape) key.
If <esc> doesn't clear your full screen, restart your Mac.  When you launch Safari after the restart, the normal sized window should open.
BTW, three finger double tap applies to trackpads. From your responses, I infer that you are not using a trackpad.  However, if you are using a wireless mouse (or other wireless pointing device), low batteries in the device might be causing your inability to control your view.

  • I can't find the menu to deactivate a computer and activate another one, as it tells me to do in the support page

the help page tells me to go to itunes store menu and find the deactivate button, but I  can't find the menu, how do I get to it?

At the top of iTunes (the program not the store screen) do you not have a Store menu, alongside File , Edit , View etc ? There should then be De-Authorise This Computer option below it :
