Finder Find command is suddenly not speedy and works weirdly

I have a number of small, and one large, problems when I use command-F to find things in the Finder.
After upgrading to Leopard from Tiger, like all users I experienced a WONDERFUL increase in the usefulness of this command. So I use it a lot, and for a long time it worked perfectly. My current problem is that when I type command-F, it opens a new finder window, and...
(1) ... when I click on the box to type the words I want to find, the insertion point doesn't appear, but the letters do appear there after I type something [minor], and...
(2) ... a FEW results of the search do appear instantly, but the window seems to enter a semi-frozen state [major; see below], and ...
(3) ... the Finder window which is finding shows signs of being inactive (scroll bar bubble is gray, not colored; columns do not sort when column header is clicked); window is in some ways unresponsive [middling], and ...
(4) ... after awhile (often as long as 30 or 40 seconds) the window suddenly finishes whatever was holding it up and the full set of results appear, the scroll bar bubble becomes colored, column-header-clicking sorts the column instantly.
In short, there is now a long, weird, semi-inactive period between the initial appearance of a few Find results and the final appearance of the entire list, when I have gotten used to the seemingly 100% instantaneous appearance of a Find request's results. I'm spoiled, and I want my wonderful Find command back!
The only thing I can think of that I might have done to contribute to this is that I HATE the behavior of the Finder searching using the title bar's oval Find window, so I removed that part from the default window setup. That is, I've changed my preferences so that when a new Finder window appears, there is no oval Find window in its upper right-hand corner. Thus, when I type command-F the Finder notices that there is no Find window to put the insertion point into, so it opens a few window with a search field at the top (the "Search for" box). (And then it refuses to put an insertion point into the window where I'm supposed to type the Search string.)
Am I being clear?

  • Is anyone else finding that the acceloromiter does not seem to work in some aps with iOS7

    Have recently (as most would have) upgraded to iOS7 on my iPad and iPhone, love it but I am find a few of my apps like eBay and remote do not rotate to landscape naymore. any one else with  this issue and is there a fix?

    As hunter9000 pointed out above, your code has syntax errors; are you even able to compile this?
    The braces "{" and "}" delimit classes, methods, and blocks ( including if/ while/ for etc ).
    Methods must be within classes i.e. after the opening brace and before the closing brace of a class.
    Similarly, statements and other blocks must be within the method.
    In your code, you have blocks simply floating about in your class, NOT allowed. They must be in a method. This is why proper indentation is important, anyone would be able to catch problem like this with just a quick glance.
    public void enter()
        {//opening brace for the enter method
            numberOfVisitors = numberOfVisitors + 1; //This takes the number of visitors adds it to itself and then adds 1
            totalFees = totalFees + fee; //This takes the fees of the day adds it to itself and then adds 12
    //    } //NO! You're closing the method too early. More content follows.
    //    { NO! You're making an unecessary block here
    //, reducing readability and potentially putting variables out of scope
            if(numberOfVisitors == 10)
            { //If the number of visitors = 10 then it should set isFull = True
              //opening brace for your if block
                isFull = true;
            }  //close the if block
    //        {//NO! again, unecessary block
            if (isFull)
            { //Once it is true the string should be shown to say that know more people can enter.
                System.out.println("The Exibition is currently full");
    //} extra brace from earlier
    }//close the methodClearer now?

  • Saving TGA with straight alpha (not premultiplied) and other weird stuff

    Is there a way to save the alpha channel not premultiplied in a tga as I need straight alpha ... ?
    While testing I got strange behaviour.... I have 5 bar from white to black with RGB value of 255,191,128,64,0
    1) Copy pasting those from rgb to alpha give me some "conversion error"
    255
    191
    128
    64
    0
    255
    191 and 192
    128 and 129

    Opening this in other software will give me
    255
    175
    105
    46
    0
    2) Copy pasting the red channel to the alpha give me "converted premultiplied" value
    255
    191
    128
    64

    255

    I don't think we're the only one that needs to have straight alpha?
    cheers

    RGB to Grayscale make sense but shouldn't create that much noise ...
    When copying from the red channel to the alpha channel, in the same file,  I got those value as shown in the graphic and that's not gamma
    But opening the image in any other software will be as the rgb value was. That means that editing value directly in the alpha when you need the exact value is impossible. That why we have to copy it from the red channel to the alpha channel to have the exact value

  • Battery not charging and makes weird noise when power cord plugged in

    I have an issue that a few people have mentioned here, my PowerBook won't recognize when a power adapter is plugged in. I've bought two power adapters recently (that I probably DON'T need now) so I know it's not a bad adapter.
    For a few months it has been switching back and forth between wall and battery power but usually only when I was really working the machine either video or photo editing but it has been getting worse.
    The thing that is happening to me that I haven't seen mention is my computer makes a fast ticking noise when it is plugged in. Once I unplug it, it stops. And while it was off and plugged in the computer was making a weird whistling noise.
    Is this a bad DC/sound card issue and does Apple still do these types of repairs at a Genius Bar or am I on my own?
    Thanks for any and all help.

    I know exactly what you mean. My 17 inch PB has been quite "noisy" since I received it, but i wrote it off (I was too ecstatic that work bought me a PB). Just recently the sound has been getting louder. I'm starting to think the sound was actually electrical interference that was being picked up by the speakers. Actually today I was in a meeting (speakers still working) and the squeeling sound was getting louder (almost embarrasing loud considering I'm the apple diehard in a pc dominated office). I decided to reset my computer (not something I do often)It seemed to subside for a bit.
    Well today, it looks as though my speakers have died on me. I'm not getting any sounds out of them. I'm not a newb when it comes to macs (been using macs since os9, about '99) so I've tried everything I can think of to get the speakers to come back. I believe I'm experiencing a hardware failure (reset many times, check all settings).
    Hmph.....Pretty frustrating. No iTunes during work makes me sad. I'll have to check and see if my external sound still works tomorrow.

  • Old QT refuses to uninstall...causing iTunes to not install and work.

    How can I uninstall QT?
    I've gone to the Add/Remove Programs and tried to uninstall it, but a window pops up titled InstallShield Wizard and says: Quicktime setup is preparing the InstallShield Wizard, which will guide you through the Program Setup Process. Please wait.
    Can anyone who knows what I'm talking about help?
      Windows XP

    Okay. First: you are amazing!
    & thank you so much for helping me.
    Second: I changed the Folder Options, and I did another search, and instead of just searching drives C and D, I searched the whole computer, and came up with a lot more (42) files. Although almost half was Apple/QuickTime history from the web, the others were actual QT files, and most of them deleted right away. The leftovers are 2 notepad files that can be deleted, but I don't know if they'd have anything important in them, so I just left them. As for the other 2, one is a File Folder that is holding that QTtask. The other is an MPP file (not sure what that is), and when it's right-clicked, deleting isn't even an option.

    The drive you are refering to... wich is it? I dont believe you are using your OS on that one. Did you mount it as a slave or master? Which channel is it plugged into?
    Give me all the info you canor else I wont be much of a help.
    One thing thoug .. try to remove the disk(if it's mounted as a slave). boot your system without and shutdown. Then try to mount the disk again(if not before, then as a slave this time)  If you jump a disk to a slave WIn OS allways assumes command of the disk. You shoud then be able to see your info. If you can play MP3's then this should do it. It all sounds like a WIn OS problem.
    Try this and let me know what happend.

  • Command   Delete shortcut not working

    When I try to send files to the trash from Finder, the Command & Delete button combo that usually work, refuse to work now. Does anyone have any idea on how to get this working again? If i click on the file, i can manually move it to the trash. Just a pain because I need to delete files rather frequently. Thanks!

    Was having the same problem and this fixed it.
    Go to System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts and click the "Restore Defaults" button. Worked for me!

  • Workflow 2.6.4.0.0 configuration problem - Command window does not close

    I am trying to install Oracle Workflow 2.6.4.0.0. as part of Warehouse builder using the details mentioned in this link
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_owb/owb10gr2_gs/owb/lesson4/etl-mappings.htm
    From the Start menu click Programs > Oracle <Database HOME> > Configuration and Migration Tools >
    Workflow Configuration Assistant. The Assistant is started.
    Accept the default for Install Option
    Workflow Account: (Accept the default ) owf_mgr
    Workflow Password: owf_mgr
    SYS Password : <Enter the SYS account password>
    TNS Connect Descriptor: localhost:1521:orcl
    Click Submit.
    However following this document, the command window did not close, and I did not get any message stating that Workflow Configuration has successfully completed.
    The command window displays this message as the final step and does not close-
    WorkflowCA: Executing :C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\jdk\bin\java -jar C:\oracle

    Is this installation complete? How to resolve this?
    Please can any one help?
    Thanks very much
    Allan

    I ran into this problem. And it took me while to get it fixed, but It does work.
    First the TNS Desc is misleading. One would think that it would be host:port:sid. What it is really looking for is host:port:servicename. But if you want to use the "Change Tablespace" drop down list you need to, enter the sys password, change it to host:port:sid - Then use the drop list. And change it back before you press submit.
    The second thing that I found is that it wants to use the SYSTEM tablespace as temporary tablespace. THis is becuase it is looking for a temp tablespace called TEMP. If you look a the line default_temp = SYSTEM. And if you dont supply a tablespace it wanted to change it in the wfsysgnt.sql script in the $OH\wf\sql directory. You would think that what ever the default database tbs and temp tbs is - that owf would use that. No, it wanted to change it. Oracle needs to fix this.
    So here is how i fixed it. I had to create a temporary tablespace called TEMP, does not need to be big as I dropped it after it was done. Then i had to modify the wfinstall.csh script and use the install options. Not the /tablespace this option is obayed but it will try to use the SYSTEM as the temp tbs. Here is my example that I appended:
    /wfacct "owf_mgr" /wfpasswd "my_owf_mgr_pwd" /debug "true" /tnsConnDesc "my_host_ip:my_port:my_servicename" /syspasswd "change_on_install" /tablespace "OWF_TBS"

  • Changing labels for commands - white paper guidelines don't work!

    Hi guys
    We are having a hard time translating the UICommand "html_version", and because we have tried so much, we are now considering workarounds. But perhaps some of you could help us?
    We have followed the guidelines from http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e7/cb7339fb23644fa9e406c6bc431c9b/frameset.htm, but for some reason it is not working. It seems as if the par-file is not deployed correctly since we are not able to use it to translate our command.
    On the other hand: If we try to use a standard bundlefile (that therefore already ís deployed in the portal), the translation is working fine.
    We could really need some help on this issue. Any helpful soul who needs ten points?
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Detlev
    No, we hadn't looked into the tracefiles, but I just did, and here's is the not-so-surprising info:
    << item 0 : >>#1.5#0011856B0F97001C00000061000013340004076781AF30F3#1134041045506#com.sapportals.wcm.rendering.uicommand.AbstractUICommand#sap.com/irj#com.sapportals.wcm.rendering.uicommand.AbstractUICommand#kmd05#1041##BLR12T_KDP_8573350#Guest#2393e7e067dd11da9b5c0011856b0f97#SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]_27##0#0#Error##Plain###Missing or wrong ResourceBundle information for command with alias <test_html_version> - java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find resource for bundle java.util.PropertyResourceBundle, key search
    What I don't understand is why that file can't be found, when we have done exactly as the help.sap-documentation says. And our custom bundlefile is visible on the server, so something was created there, but perhaps not deployed correctly.
    Maybe the service does not start and work as it is supposed to do? (I have renamed it as described in the documentation).
    I really hope you can help, because we have been struggling with this issue for quite some time now.
    Best regards,
    Martin

    It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
    If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...
