Finder - "Get Info" - "More Info" panel has NO information any more!
Hello all,
Can you help a slider out? My new MacBook Pro has a problem with the Finder. When I use the Finder, File, Get Info (or Command I), to get info about a file, in particular, a graphic file, I used to see stuff in the "More Info" panel. I use the image size information (e.g., 512 x254 pixels and the actual memory size) to quickly keep track of graphics for my web pages.
Well, for ALL file types now, I get NO "More Info" information in the panel. All the other panels, "General", Name & Extension", "Open with", "Preview" and "Ownership & Permissions" work fine.
I fixed disk permissions via the Install DVD and deleted the com.apple.finder.plist and neither of these have helped resurrect my "More Info" information.
I am running 10.4.10 and this is only on my machine. On the other 2 in our household, the panel works as it always has.
HELP, I miss my "More Info" info!

I am also encountering the same issue...in addition, I'm having trouble installing Google Sketchup Pro 6, I believe there may be some sort of correlation between the two?

You can go to the Store dropdown menu and then to View My Apple ID. You will be prompted to enter your password. Once you do, you'll be redirected tothe page "Account information".
Under Apple ID Summary, you will see Computer Authorizations. The number of computers already authorized will be shown, and you'll have the option to deauthorize them ALL. If you click on this button, you'll have to reauthorize any computer you actually want to be linked to your Apple ID.

While downloading Mountain Lion, I get a message: An error has occurred. Any fix?
Does anyone have any idea why I cannot seem to download and install Mountain Lion? I get a following message: "An error has occurred" and I cannot tell if the download even occurred.
I tried to do that but the error message remains in the box showing I purchased ML and the rectangle to right of the message, which would normally be where one clicks to re-download the app, is blank and inoperable.

Cannot get old gen appleTV to sync with iMac any more
I can no longer sync my old appleTV with my macs. I've tried turning off home sharing as someone suggested, but that did nothing.
AppleTV shows up in iTunes but its content does not. This means I can no longer back up content that I've purchased (NOT rented) on my AppleTV because I cannot move it to my Mac.
I guess I can purchase stuff on the Mac in future and stream it, but it sort of negates the convenience of sitting in front of the TV and using AppleTV if I have to go into the other room, buy the stuff, wait for it to download on my Mac and then access it. It also means I have to leave my computer on all the time which I'm not in the habit of doing. (It's not a very green option, is it?)
Also, it doesn't solve the problem of all the TV shows and movies I've purchased recently and now can't back up. (Since I'm on the old AppleTV, I don't have the 99 cent rental option, either.)
Any ideas? Am I missing something? Or is this the way it is now?I have been experiencing the same problems as discussed above. At first my 2 Apple TV's were a dream - easy to use and quite convenient. I could purchase a movie/music on my main floor Apple TV, it would then sync to my main computer and then sync with my basement Apple TV (and vice versa). As I stated before, the system was gorgeous and worked like it was explained to me prior to my purchase of same.
I always say yes to new software updates. Then all of a sudden everything stopped syncing and my 2 Apple TV's stop showing up as "device" in Itunes. Calling Apple support was a waste of time - these so-called computer geniuses pretended they did not know what was going on. Going on the self-help menus was also a dead-end. I then went to the place where I purchased the Apple TV's and they told me flat out that Apple has simply changed the software to conform with the 2nd generation Apple TV and syncing is no longer possible.
So basically all of us 1st generation Apple TV owners purchased 160 GB of storage for nothing because you can no longer sync. and store. I say that we get together and fight back because this is not right. When I purchased my 2 Apple TV's it was on the premise that they would sync and store my purchases and now Apple has unilaterally modified the terms of the contract - I did not agree to this. Luckily we have court systems that allow class actions and Juries who will punish high-handed and callous corporations who try to screw consumers. All I want is to be able to use my Apple TV's as I used to - it is that simple - I just want to be able to sync again.
Let me know your thoughts. Let's not get steamrolled by a billion dollar corporation. -
My notebook is 5 years old, but works good and I dont want to change it now. Yet, the more Window updates I do the HEAVIER is the work with web browsers.
I gave up on IE and switched to Firefox because it was much lighter for a long time. But since a few days ago even simple image search with Firefox gets up to 200 000 kb of my CPU (just like IE used to do) compared with 100 000kb with the very same Firefox just a couple of months before. And so, Firefox now slows my computer enormously.
Is there any way lighter versions of Firefox or some way firefox can recognize older computers that can't tackle so much of weight? Or perphaps uninstalling some plug-ins will help?
Example - things like searching for Video or Images, which, since recently, bring pageless results, where you scroll down forever, slows my computer a lot....

Try FF4 it's miles qucker the 3.6.*. I loaded FF4 because 3.6.13 was so slow. Also try removing it and re-installing (3.6.13). There are still some sites that won't fully work with FF4, that's why I'm still running both.

Can't get QT files to play in iWeb webpages any more...??
drag a QT file onto a blank webpage, upload it, that's all I've had to do now for years. All of a sudden, that doesn't work anymore. Now the webpage plays back only the QT logo....

Quicktimekirk, thanks for the idea, although I'd checked the preferences. I do have 'Play movies automatically' checked under the Browser tab , but that probably applies only to downloaded movies. There's no 'General' tab. The tabs are Register, Browser, Update, Streaming and Advanced. Anyway, it doesn't matter now that I know how to start them by double-clicking.

What problems are you expecting after your iPhone is unlocked?? Oh no - I am being naïve - I am assuming legitimately unlocked by the carrier to which the phone had been locked?

I changed my username and now afp doesn't show any users. I have file sharing on. And also when I select "get more info" on the shared folders they don't have my username in there. it just has "applepc(me)" my old username before changing it showed the correct username? please any help would be great.
Turn Time Machine OFF temporarily in its preference pane. Leave the window open.
Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the disk image file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Find the one you want to restore from. There's a link named "Latest" representing the most recent snapshot. Use that one, if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to remember the date of the snapshot you choose.
Inside the snapshot folder is a folder hierarchy like the one on the source disk. Find one of the items you can't restore and select it. Open the Info dialog for the selected item. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you may see an entry in the access list that shows "Fetching…" in the Name column. If so, click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate. Then delete the "Fetching…" item from the icon list. Click the gear icon below the list and select Apply to enclosed items from the popup menu.
Now you should be able either to copy the item in the Finder or to restore it in the time-travel view. If you use the time-travel view, be sure to select the snapshot you just modified. If successful, repeat the operation with the other items you were unable to restore. You can select multiple items in the Finder and open a single Info dialog for all of them by pressing the key combination option-command-I.
When you're done, turn TM back ON and close its preference pane. -
Finder has suddenly restricted displaying "Preview" and "More info" info.

Well, a small problem has embezzled itself upon my Macintosh recently. When shuffling through my finder window and eventually ending up, say on a picture, the dimensions of the picture are not listed anymore in the preview info. As well, when previewing a movie in the finder, a Quicktime movie, the duration of the movie is no longer displayed?
This info has just disappeared somehow. And when clicking on "more info..." under the previewed file in the finder (or when right-clicking the file anywhere on my computer), which brings up a separate window displaying much descriptive info., the pic dimensions are missing, and with movies, the duration is missing too. It was listed under "size" when getting info for both pics and movies.
_What happened to this info???_ This info has been +incredibly useful+ info for just a quick glance at a file... but for some reason, when a pic or a movie is on my desktop, this exact info, duration or dimensions, is shown under the pic or movie on my desktop, and nothing else (but "show item info" is activated for the desktop).

Message was edited by: patzivotaHi patzivota, could just be a simple corruption in your "com.apple.finder.plist" file. You can drag this to the desktop and restart (you'll find it in Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences) to see if this will solve your problem.
If after restart all appears well just trash the old plist file. -
Just did the iTunes update that iTunes said was available, now iTunes won't open. I just keep getting a Runtime Error message.

I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says. I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.

After updating to 10.7.4 can no longer connect to a NAS using afp. Any ideas?
Just upgraded to 10.7.4 from 10.6.8. We use a NAS to store and back-up work but am now unable to connect using afp. I can connect using SMB but this means I loose all the resource forks on my fonts etc. Any ideas?

I entered the wrong Mac id on my iTouch and I cant figure out how to change it.

In a numbered list, how can I italicize the text without the number getting italicized?
