Finder gets confused about Audio CD's

A few weeks ago I burned an iTunes playlist containing a single track to an audio CD. When the CD was burned and mounted, Finder showed the title of the volume as the title of the playlist ("untitled playlist"), and showed the contents of the CD to be a single AIFF file with the same title as the iTunes song ("I Can See Clearly Now.aiff"). So far so good.
Now whenever I insert ANY Audio CD containing only one track, it shows up on the desktop as the CD I burned a few weeks ago. That is to say, any single-track Audio CD shows up on the Desktop as "untitled playlist," and the contents of that CD is always "I Can See Clearly Now.aiff." Of course the actual contents of that file are what they should be, not "I Can See Clearly Now." Not so helpful.
Is there some database file out there that I can trash and make Finder stop thinking that every one-track Audio CD I insert is "untitled playlist"? Or is this an iTunes issue, perhaps?
I'm using a Dual 2 GHz G5 tower with the latest version of 10.4.9. I should also mention that the optical drive involved in all this is a Plextor IDE DVD+-R/CD-RW housed in an external Firewire enclosure. Thanks for any help!

Something else I should mention: what I've described above occurs for ANY Audio CD, including ones where the duration of the audio track is nowhere near the duration of the track on "untitled playlist."
Also, the CORRECT info always shows up for each CD in iTunes. It's only the Finder that's getting confused. (And other apps like Disk Utility that I imagine are getting this kind of info from the Finder.)
Thanks again.

  • PE9 get confused about displaying images

Been using PE9 for a few weeks and within the past couple of days it seems to get confused about which image should be displayed within the timeline. Have a medium size project with 30-40 jpg's in it and when shown in the timeline (or in the monitor window), PE9 replaces the image associated with a particular file with an image from another file. In the Project list you can get Properties and the path\file name shows up perfectly but PE9 uses the image from another file. Tried closing the project, and PE9 - no help. Tried re-booting Windows 7 (64 bit) - nop help. This seems to get worse as time goes on and I have not been able to find a solution.

  • Confused about XPostFacto and the 8GB Limit - Please help

    Hi all,
I've been running XPostFacto 4.0 on my Apple G3 Desktop (Rev C, 640MB Ram, 533 Mhz G4 OWC CPU upgrade) for sometime and is running great.
But I have a question about the 8GB rule.
This computer only runs off of a Seritek SATA card. There is a 35 GB Raptor drive on it, the first 7.81 GB is the 10.3.9 drive, and rest is for applications and files.
I added a 160 GB Hitachi drive to the SATA card that I moved from my G4 MDD computer. It already has 3 partitions: 30 GB for 10.3.9, 10GB for OS9, and 115 GB for audio production files.
If I wanted to boot off the Hitachi drive, would I have to re-format and create a 8 GB partition?
As is, if I try to boot off the drive I just added, XPostFacto tries to synchronize the files, then it invariably crashes.
I tried reading the manual again, but I get confused about the Mac OS X Installer and the 8GB rule, and so on.
    Thanks!

i wound up erasing the partition on the transferred drive and carboncopycloning the beige's OS X drive to it...and now the transferred drive is booting ok!
now, i'm thinking of copying the whole raptor drive over and re-partitioning the raptor drive (strangely, the raptor appears with about 9 partitions on Disk Utility, though the only two that i created are clickable...wonder if the OS sees this drive as something like scsi).
this is a little asides the point, but on my MDD, the 7200 hitachi seemed to test as "faster" than the 10000rpm raptor in most categories. would the 7200 drive infact be better for OS style-tasks?

  • Confused about transaction, checkpoint, normal recovery.

After reading the documentation pdf, I start getting confused about it's description.
Rephrased from the paragraph on the transaction pdf:
"When database records are created, modified, or deleted, the modifications are represented in the BTree's leaf nodes. Beyond leaf node changes, database record modifications can also cause changes to other BTree nodes and structures"
"if your writes are transaction-protected, then every time a transaction is committed the leaf nodes(and only leaf nodes) modified by that transaction are written to JE logfiles on disk."
"Normal recovery, then is the process of recreating the entire BTree from the information available in the leaf nodes."
According to the above description, I have following concerns:
    1. if I open a new environment and db, insert/modify/delete several million records, and without reopen the environment, then normal recovery is not run. That means, so far, the BTree is not complete? Will that affact the query efficiency? Or even worse, will that output incorrect results?
    2. if my above thinking is correct, then every time I finish commiting transactions, I need to let the checkpoint to run in order to recreate the whole BTree. If my above thinking is not correct, then, that means that, I don't need to care about anything, just call transaction.commit(), or db.sync(), and let je to care about all the details.(I hope this is true :>)
    michael.

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/TransactionGettingStarted/chkpoint.html
Checkpoints are normally performed by the checkpointer background thread, which is always running. Like all background threads, it is managed using the je.properties file. Currently, the only checkpointer property that you may want to manage is je.checkpointer.bytesInterval. This property identifies how much JE's log files can grow before a checkpoint is run. Its value is specified in bytes. Decreasing this value causes the checkpointer thread to run checkpoints more frequently. This will improve the time that it takes to run recovery, but it also increases the system resources (notably, I/O) required by JE.

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please!

I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please! Also, I still don't understand exactly what the benefits are. At the moment it seems a lot of hassle to change a system that's been working perfectly well and that I'm very happy with. I'm not at all sure whether the mac mini (1.66 GHz INtel Core Duo) can be brought up to the relevant spec to run ICloud.  Any thoughts?

There are two aspects to iCloud.  One is simply getting an account, or migrating a mobileme account to iCloud.  The second part is using the various features of iCloud to sync contacts, calendars, use music match or photo sharing, and store iWorks documents.
First to get an iCloud account:
If you have a mobileme account, you can migrate by simply logging onto www.icloud.com (ignore any references to Lion and just click through to complete the migration).  If you have OS X Lion or an iOS 5 mobile device, you can create an iCloud account on that device using any valid AppleID.
Once you have an account, you can use JUST the mail account if you wishi - it is a standard IMAP account so you would set it up like any other IMAP email account you have, in whatever client program you use to read email.
To use the OTHER feautes of iCloud, your computers will have to be running OS X Lion (10.7).  Your iPhone 3G will never be able to use iCloud as it cannot run iOS 5 (you need a min. of an iPhone 3GS to run iOS 5).
The requirements for OS X Lion are here - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html  You need a min. of a Core 2 duo processor so you mini is not capable of running Lion.
So, in your case, the single reasons for iCloud would be if you have a mobileme account, then use the online www.icloud.com to migrate your account so you do not lose your @me.com email address.  You can use iCloud email (without using any other iCloud features) by setting it up as IMAP mail with these settings - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
If you want an iCloud account and do NOT already have a mobileme account, you will need to upgrade one machine at least to Lion in order to be able to create an iCloud account.

  • About AUDIO SETTINGS

    Hello friends....
I encountered a problem with audio settings when iam working with my voice mail project.
For AudioFormat class, in setAudioFormat method i have given parameters like...(8000.0F,8,1,true,true)
    i.e 8000 sample/second, 8 bits/sample, 1 single channel , stereo sound is true ......like that
Its working very fine in windows environment....but when ever i tried to wootk in linux or unix environment....its giving the "Illegal Arguement Exception" for the given parameters....
My doubt is are the parameters different for linux environment???
    thank you all

No. My post was not deleted by any of the forum moderators. No hot stuff. That was me who deleted since I saw that Steve Grisetti had already replied, and I did not want to interfere with the communication between the two of you.
I did not keep a copy of that post that I deleted. Since you found the post of interest, if I get a copy of it in my email, I will do a copy/paste into this thread.
My recollection is that the post
    a. had a link to an article on Audio Bitrate
    http://lifehacker.com/5810575/does-bitrate-really-make-a-difference-in-my-music
    b. mentioned how to set Bitrate Settings for Publish+Share/Computer/Audio under the Advanced Button/Audio Tab of the preset selected
    c. mentioned about Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, although I did not find a set for audio bitrate, I found that with AAC codec, the end product did have a bitrate of 128 kbps.
When dealing with this bitrate units, keep in mind that Kbps and kbps are the same kilobits per second. If you had KBps, that would be kilobytes per second.
Sorry for the confusion that I created in trying to avoid confusion.
I am not clear on why you are not going from Timeline to Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc instead of seeking a QuickTime file and then your DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.
Please supply more details if you decide you need more information on this.
    Thanks.

  • Is there a way to find out details about, who approved the RMA on system using front end or back end?

Is there a way to find out details about, who approved the RMA on system using front end or back end?

But is there a way (simple or not-so-simple) to find
out EVERY SINGLE FILE that's referenced on a
timeline? (I have lots of stuff imported into the
project that I know isn't used on any timeline, but
I'm afraid of moving or deleting things for fear of
    never finding it again.)
I'd love to get some sort of "printout" (a list or
    something) of every single file.
There is, go to browser and cntrl click on any one of the columns,
and select - show/source. A new column named "source" will pop up and will show where everything "lives". Click on the header at the top and it will justify the column as well. You'll notice this won't show anything for your seq.'s. of course, but will show stills/audio/motion files...
Once you have the new column, you can drag it next to the "name" column and get a grab of it and print it if you like, or whatever.
If you want to do this for just 1 seq., then can create a new bin and double click it to open it. Cntrl-A (select all) in your main seq. and just drag all into the new bin. You will see only what's in that seq. with the "source" column right next to it.
From what I've read, you seem to get the MM thing and it's obviously what you'll need to do to archive as the guys said. But what your missing is a file path system to where everything resides.
Hope this helps and that I've read you properly,

  • Confused about CLASSPATH and how java handles import statements...

    Hello,
I must admit I don't get it. I read the articles about setting CLASSPATH etc. but I still wonder:
If you use an import statement, what does the compiler do? I.e. where does it look for the specified classes? I find it confusing because I see in different locations different .jar files:
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\lib\dt.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\lib\htmlconvertor.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\lib\tools.jar
    and also
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\i18n.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\rt.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\jaws.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\sunrassign.jar
Can someone explain me what the purpose is of these files?
And why do I have the same contents in
    C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_03\lib
    and in
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib
    Why is that?
    Thanks for answering my questions!
    -mike

Thanx for the answers, but I still wonder, everyone
here says I need to set the classpath, but I don't.Probably because your classes are already in the class path. The compiler/jvm also look for classes by themselves not just in jar files, when just a directory is supplied in the class path. And a period (".") is a valid directory.
Programs importing different classes compile with no
problem. So what's up with that?
Presumably you are referring to your own code - because they are in the class path.
Second, I still don't understand why the runtime needs
the .jar files. The runtime uses classes, like String, that have to come from somewhere.
This would also mean that end-users
need to set the classpath to the .jar files in their
JRE directory to be able to run programs that import
classes from these .jars. But this is not true, right? No it is true. The end-users will have to set the class path. There are variations on this which make it seem like no class path is set. For instance applets in a browser are java but the end-user does not need to set a class path. That is because the browser knows how to download classes/jars and how to set it up so it uses them. (Actually it uses a class loader, but that is probably more information that you need.)
Because if I make some nice classes myself and import
them, how can I expect my end-user to install these
classes and make a classpath for them? That would be between you and you end-user.
First installation is not part of java. For installation you will have to find something outside of java to accomplish the goal.
Additionally how the class path gets set is OS specific. Java does not deal with that. You will also have to find some way to deal with this (most likely part of the installation.)
There are also variations on this. For example the browser example I gave above. Or using the ext directory. Or creating an executable jar. Or simply setting the class path.
In my understanding it should only be needed in the JDK, not
in the JRE. True or am I mistaken?Mistaken. The class path is needed in the JRE as well. You will need to set it.

  • Confusing about CMP

I am learning Entity Bean by myself now. During the study, I find some questions which confused me a lot. Can you help me?
My questions almost focus on the CMP( container-managed Entity Bean)
1.The Transaction for the CMP, I just wanna know when the transaction begins and when it ends.In my view, it starts when the ejbLoad() method invoked and ends when the ejbStore() method invoked. Am I right?
2.Dose each of CMP bean refer to the specific Table? That is, the relationship between Bean and Table is 1 - 1. If your project has 1000 tables, you should create 1000 bean classes as well. That's my own view, this is gained during the reading. Am I right? Because, you know, if you should create 1000 bean classes, the ejb project looks awful.
3.Is there any functional capability that the BMP can fulfill, while the CMP can't. Because I think, now there is CMP, why we should use BMP any more?
    Many thanks

I am sorry about the confusion but maybe I am too
deep-thinking about the BIND because what I wanted to do can be
    easilly done with JavaScript!
OnClick on the CFINPUT-RADIO can call a JS function to check
and control what to see on the other set of options.

  • Confused about standby redo log groups

    hi masters,
i am little bit confuse about creating redo log group for standby database,as per document number of standby redo group depends on following equation.
(maximum number of logfiles for each thread + 1) * maximum number of threads
but i dont know where to fing threads? actually i would like to know about thread in deep.
    how to find current thread?
    thanks and regards
    VD

is it really possible that we can install standby and primary on same host??
yes its possible and i have done it many times within the same machine.
For yours confusion about spfile ,i agree document recommend you to use spfile which is for DG broker handling if you go with DG borker in future only.
There is no concern spfile using is an integral step for primary and standby database implementation you can go with pfile but good is use spfile.Anyhow you always keep pfile on that basis you created spfile,i said you make an entry within pfile then mount yours standby database with this pfile or you can create spfile from this pfile after adding these parameter within pfile,i said cause you might be adding this parmeter from SQL prompt.
    1. logs are not getting transfered(even i configure listener using net manager)
2.logs are not getting archived at standby diectory.
3.'ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION' NEVER COMPLETE ITS RECOVERY
    4. when tried to open database it always note it 'always' said system datafile is not from sufficiently old backup.
5.i tried 'alter database recover managed standby database camncel' also.Read yours alert log file and paste the latest log here..

  • PSE 7 confusion about folder location, help needed

Here's some background: I'm using PhotoShop Elements 7 on Win XP.  I have an external firewire hard drive I use for overflow/backups.  Originally, this showed up as a K: drive on my system.
I added a RAID controller and two more drives to stripe as a single drive for temp space rendering movies.  This ended up as a K: drive and the external moved to L:  However, when I did this there were some pictures from my catalog that I had on the external drive.  I have used File > reconnect missing files to handle the moves, but PSE is still confused (very).
PSE has started to mix up the RAID (K:) and external (L:) content.  If I move a set of pictures (e.g. a folder of them) onto the external drive (L:) via drag and drop in the folder location view, the folder will show up empty on the L: heirarchy, but will show up as a gray folder icon in the K: RAID drive hierarchy.  If I open up windows explorer, the RAID drive will appear empty.  In other cases (I'm not sure when/how yet), pictures physically end up on the RAID drive itself instead of the external.  I have uninstalled both the external drive and the RAID drive and reinstalled them both, but they are still getting confused in the folder view by PSE.  I've also tried moving content outside of PSE and just reconnecting missing files, but it still wants to put things under the K: RAID drive instead of the external L:.
I've searched everywhere I can think of for a description of what gray folder icons in the folder location view means and can find none.  I'm not sure how to convince PSE that there's nothing on the RAID K: drive and it shouldn't try to connect the two.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Thank you!  I ran psedbtool and the output shows the catalog has the wrong drive letter for the L: drive.
Is there a way to make PSE forget about the K: and L: drives that it is so confused about so that it can relearn of their existence?  If I use the drive letter reassignment to fix PSE, it will break other apps that are now dependent on the current drive letter assignments.  I've tried removing all files from the L: drive, but it's still remembered as part of the catalog.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Confusion about upsampling?

I'm not sure this is really the optimal forum for thus, but it seems about as good as any.
In a few recent threads, including Completely Embed Font (not Subset) in PDF several methods not working, Dov
    Isaacs has said things like:
Don't try to artificially upsample or downsample any image before placing into InDesign. Upsampling does not improve quality in any way whatsoever.
(I'm posting this seperately because I don't want to confuse those other threads. And Dov's advice is so generally good.)
I'm finding this claim about upsampling to be rather confusing, as it is counter to my understanding.
I'm under the impression that upsampling can indeed help to interpolate points and lead to apparently sharper images and finger detail. While it cannot restore data that is never there, it can be a marked improvement over not doing so.
As a practical example, we screen at 220lpi and print at 1200dpi, and one of our regular sources of cartoons (line art) comes in at 72ppi (about 110ppi effective), despite our best efforst to get higher resolution. We use a Photoshop action to upsample it to 300ppi (about 360ppi effective).
Specifically, we start with a 72ppi/8pp anti-aliased grayscale image, we upsample it to 600ppi, threshold black at 128, convert it to a bitmap at 600ppi with a diffusion dither, and downsample to 300ppi/1bpp.
The result looks dramatically better in print than the original. Is this a bizarre corner case (because it is hand-drawn line art; because the original is anti-aliased; because we're dithering; because this starts to sound like "image processing" rather than just "upsampling")? Because I would tend to think it is not consistent with the idea that upsampling doesn't help.
I am less sanguine about the next part of this: on occassion, some of our photo editors have had images they want to run in print whose resolution is much much too low to look acceptable. But for which the image is fairly important to run, regardless. They had had non-negative success with upsampling in Photoshop and perhaps applying some blurs. This can result in images that don't have the telltale artifacts ("huge jaggies") of low resolution imagery, even though they may not really have more information density. But there is value in eliminating those extremely obvious artifacts,
even if they are ultimately replaced with other artifacts.
So, am I missing something? Am I just confused? Or do these just qualify as corner-cases?
    Thanks.

Like all things graphical and technical, there are always corner cases.
In terms of upsampling, every RIP and every renderer out there upsamples images when necessary, i.e., when the effective resolution of the raster image (native resolution tempered by the magnfication for print or display) is less than the resolution of device on which they are being printed or displayed. And the converse is true as well in terms of downsampling.
In fact, with the exception of one-bit-per pixel monochrome images at exact device resolution, all imagery is resampled during the process of halftoning. You are not avoiding a resampling process by trying to hit some magic number in terms of resolution!!
What you do want to avoid like the plague is the result of cascading resampling of imagery. All raster image upsampling operations are at best speculative in terms of how they “invent” the extra pixels for interpolation. What is used in Adobe Photoshop as well as by other Adobe applications including Acrobat and the Adobe PDF Print Engine RIP technology by default, bicubic interpolation, is generally very effective and high quality. All raster image downsampling is lossy. And if you upsample (interpolate) an image and then downsample it, which pixels do you lose, the original information or the invented information? The results can be quite nasty.
The best example of this problem is that of screen shots. What is the best way to reproduce a screen shot? You will get all type of opinions on this, but what you definitely never should do is to upsample it. (There are some interesting techniques that can be applied to clean up black text in such screen shots, but they don't involve attempts to change resolution.) Simply place the screen shot “as is” and let the screen display software in your application or in Acrobat or the RIP for printing resample the image once during the screening process.
Note that there are various Photoshop plug-in packages that claim miraculous results for upsampling requirements, but these miraculous results are typically representative of situations in which really extreme upsampling is required and not the garden variety that most of us would normally deal with. Of course YMMV.
You also need to be exceptionally careful about any resampling, downsampling or upsampling given the havoc it can cause with images that have had any significant sharpening already applied to them.
Hopefully this cut the confusion a bit ...     These issues are probably one of primary reasons one should stay with text rendered via fonts and vector graphics as much as possible before resorting to use of raster images. (BTW, one of these days the geniuses at Microsoft and Apple will learn how to provide a screen shot facility that uses text and vectors in addition to rasters based upon the original display lists provided to the underlying windowing system!)
