Finder has gone from slow to nearly unresponsive!!!

I have owned a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB of RAM for about a year and upgraded to Leopard the week that it was released, and I had no problems with it off the bat; in fact, my system ran as well as it had in months once I first installed it. However, within a few weeks, there were small slow-downs in various aspects of my system. In the the past month, though, my system has slowed down drastically, primarily when using Finder. Some of my application load-times are still a bit slower than usual, but it is when I am using Finder to move files/navigate my system that the biggest problem exists. Whether it be moving a single text file from one folder to another, moving a file to the trash, or even sorting files in a folder, rather than doing it immediately (as it should when moving a single file) my computer gives me the spinning beach ball and becomes unresponsive for about 5 seconds before finally completing the task and returning to normal. If I want to move another file immediately thereafter, the same thing occurs.
I admit that I like to try out various applications and keep my hard drive relatively full at times, but, other than that, I make sure to take care of my system. I understand that the application slow downs can be attributed to a large hard drive capacity or any number of other things, but a problem like this in the Finder seems very odd and (hopefully not) serious.
I have updated to 10.5.1, I run Cocktail weekly and have run the Disk Utility operations as well. For the first time since I've owned my MacBook Pro, in fact, when "Verifying Permissions" my system came upon various errors, and I think that they might be the culprit. I ran "Repair Permissions" and, after quite a while, the following was the output, and I am hoping that someone can help me interpret it and/or point me in any direction that he or she may feel will be helpful. My system is backed up, but I would prefer not to re-install Leopard, as I am just beginning final exams in law school and would not want something catastrophic to happen right now. That being said, if that seems like the only option, then I am willing to do it and will just have to wait a few weeks to get down to it.

None of the permissions repair is anything to worry about. If Repair Permissions reports "Permission Repair Complete"then permissions have been repaired.
Try starting in "Safe Mode" and see how your OS performs. This will take a while to boot up because it performs a directory check first, so be patient.

Whoa whoa no need to go restoring stuff yet, once you've done that check to verify you have done what Overlook2011 IF that doesn't work for calendars ensure your default account for calendars is set to iCloud and in calendars that it is told to "Show all calendars"

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

I can send and receive calls.
I get "messaging stopped" when doing a lot of texts.
Texts come up "ghosted" meaning they have the text on the bottom and a transparent one overlaid on top. they then become one. But I get the ghosting most of the time when I go into a message from a contact to send a text.
When I go to call logs or text logs, the numbers come up first, and then then the names pop up randomly, meaning not in order down the page, until they are all shown. lots of lag time.
It runs slow.
I have 5 apps on here. I should be able to have a lot of apps on here, and play music, and have files, and...and....and.
I can get online but doing a Google search, when the page with the choices comes up, it is blurred and I have to tap on the screen for it to become clear and readable.
When online and scrolling, it hitches sometimes/lags/gets stuck then unstuck
I get VZWAVS has stopped. (not sure if those are the right letters)
The status bar that is supposed to be gray with the new update, goes back and forth between green--the old os--to gray. And I have found no continuity with when I get green or when I get gray.

I don't know if this is what you really want, but I created a Playlist for Radio, and add some of the stations I like from websites. (If you click on the web-links they load into iTunes in the Sidebar). And you can also add individual Radio stations from the top right,(under Apple) to a Playlist. That's the only way I know to have them in the Sidebar.
Z_ZS-B, You also helped me to find the old Radio list! I didn't even know it was up on the right, under Apple. I haven't liked this version of iTunes so I hadn't even bothered to try and figure it out until now, but because I just bought a my first iPod Shuffle I'm determined to bend this version to my will. ;-)

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

I had this problem on my iPod Touch 4g. Just press the home and sleep button. Wait and it will give an iTunes and cable logo. Now you can put in DFU mode (Hold Sleep and Home button 10 seconds and then release the power button kand keep pressing on the home button.) Now you will be able to restore it in iTunes.

Until you have tried Maps, Music, etc. first hand, I wouldn't formulate negative opinions about them. And updates, if performed correctly, do not erase data.
I presume that last time you updated through iTunes. This time, update over Wi-Fi by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Safari has gone very slow

I have an iPod touch and have found that safari has gone really slow. It takes ages to load the page and zoom in and out also scrolling up and down. It al started when I let my kids aged 11 and 9 used it. They where not as careful as me when using it but I was supervising and they did not drop it or anything. I have rebooted it then reset it to factory settings in iTunes. I have taken off the apps that they put on there but it made no difference. It has been fine since ios 4 update came out so it had nothing to do with that. I always thought that safari was quite quick but now its unusable on some sites, manly sites with moving images. It is like there is not enough ram any more. I know its not the modem as the two computers that i have are just the same, pretty good and there both using safari. Its strange as my mobile phone with android did the same thing about 6 months ago and nether improved. The phone does it on any wifi and mobile network, so again it cant be the modem. Is there any thing I can do with the ipod to speed safari up, or is that it I cant use safari any more and use opera instead?

I now its not the network as its fine with everything else. Also I have already tried restoring the ipod with itunes and that didn't make any difference. I have now reset it like you said but that didn't work. Not sure what to do now maybe safari just want work like it use to. I forgot to say it is a second gen ipod touch so it is quite old now.
Any more help I would be very thankful for.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the boot drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then run the Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics.
Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

Right click on the background in the work area, and you should be able to change it from there.
