Finder icon, help please

So something happened where my finder icon went onto my desktop and I can't click on it to open it or right click it or anything. I can't bring up my finder screen where I can explore folders and stuff either. Can someone help please?

You can just kill the Dock process to get the Finder icon back on the dock. (this happens to my macbook occasionally, and I've never seen it before this computer, although it probably happens) To kill the Dock process, open up a terminal (/Applications/Utilities), and type:
sudo killall Dock
It will prompt you for an admin password, and then you will see the Dock hide (when it shuts off) and then promptly reappear. The finder icon should be back on the Dock when it reappears.

Are you following these instructions.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

Badge app icon help please

my badge app icon for instagram is not showing i do have it turned on, I tried deleteing it & re installed & turning off my phone & back on can someone please help me?

Assuming other apps display badges properly:
1. Reset phone (no data loss): press both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
2. Get support from the Instagram developer. The app isn't isn't an Apple product.

The license to use iPhoto is not transferable. It is included with new Macs, but it cannot be sold, so it will not be on any used Macs. You will not have iMovie or GarageBand either.
You must purchase your own copies of these apps from the App Store.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.

Search 'filename contains' in finder. Help please

Hello. I need to search my filesystem for any files containing the words "foo" (for example). Currently, when I type 'foo' into my finder search bar, it returns only those filenames starting with the word 'foo'. Can anyone tell me the way to adjust search behavior to search filenames containing 'foo' instead of starting with 'foo'?

That's odd: if I open the Applications folder, then do a Command-F search, with the criterion of
"Name contains and"
on the Apps folder, I get 143 results, including things like
GarageBand
GrandPerspective
HandBrake
Random Spheres.bmp
copyLibFile.command
bread and wine
CopyAndPaste.js
And so on. If I add the restriction, "Kind is Applications" I get four results:
GrandPerspective
PandoCalendar
HandBrake
GarageBand
HOWEVER, if I leave the restriction "Kind is Applications" and delete the "Name Contains" criterion, and instead put and in the Search for field I get this bewildering result:
CSSEdit

Neither seems to have anything to do with my Search for term. Looking at the metadata which is indexed I see both do have the actual word "and" at some point in their metadata. Poking around a bit and thinking, I concluded that the only way to get a partial name search is to use the "Name contains" criterion. If you use the Search box with the only criterion being "Kind is Any" you will get:
1. Any file that has the word "and" in its content
2. Any file whose metadata contains the word "and"
3. A file where "and" is separated in the title by any method that Spotlight recognizes as a delimiter; thus you will get "Roll and Crash" and "Pen And Ink" and "FiveBySevenAndThreeH.txt" but not something like GarageBand.
The delimiters that I know about off-hand are capital letters, spaces, the underscore (thus something like "washanddry" would show up), and periods (so if a file was named "foo.and.txt" it would show up). There are probably others as well.

My MacBook pro turns on, shows my background, but does not launch finder. Help please.

When I turn on my MacBook Pro (2006, 15"), the background image shows up, but the finder does not launch. After about 10 minutes, my task bar will appear on the bottom of the screen, but the finder bar does not appear. The spinning wheel appears and will not go away. I have attempted rebooting a few times, and each time the result is the same.
Suggestions?

The folder with a question marks is usually an idication that the Mac can't find the system file to boot from.
Since you never told us which system your Mac was running there is nothing more to say.

I do not have any problems when downloading the new itunes. 10.6.3 version, but once "installed" I cannot open the itunes app by clicking on the icon, help please!

When attempting to download the new version of itunes I was able to complete the download without a problem but cannot open the icon when everthing is done. I unistalled everything and reinstalled, I followed all the trouble-shooting guides, I attempted to download an older version and nothing is working. Prior to attempting to download this "new and improved version of itunes" everything was working fine. Unfortunately I had to update when I got a new iPhone and wanted to sync it to my old library and needed an updated version of itunes.

Restart Computer.
Refer steps here to delete SC file(s):
Win7/Vista http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
WinXP http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776
Then proceed to repair your QuickTime. START > CONTROL PANEL
WinXP - Add n Remove Programs
Win7/Vista - Programs n Features
highlight QUICKTIME and click CHANGE then REPAIR

Finder Icon will not change! Please help!

I have been customizing the look of of my dockbar on my imac by giving all of my apps new ios 7 style icons.
Yesterday I changed my Finder icon with no problem at all by going to:
System→Library→Core Services→(right click 'Dock'→Show Package Contents)→Contents→Resources.
And replacing the two png files (finder.png) and ([email protected]) with my new images. Yesterday I did this all perfectly fine and it changed to my new icon.
However today I found a better finder icon and decided to change it again to this new version. However what ever I try it will not change to this new icon.
I have followed the exact same steps as before, I have replaced my two png files from yesterday with my new ones and I have checked and re-checked that I am naming the files correctly, and that they are the right format etc.
I have even deleted my original icons that I changed it to yesterday and emptied them from the trash but it is still there even after restarting and shutting down and rebooting.
I have also tried going to terminal and typing 'killall Dock', it still returns with the same icon that I changed it to yesterday, even though I have deleted them from my hard drive.
Please help me this is so frustrating and have wasted many many hours on this.

Do you have Time Machine enabled. If so, go back through your previous months until it features in your Application folder. Then restore.

Ideally you need to boot from the disk as you have no other media advisable. (e.g your hard drive)
Without some form of system disk or restore you wont be able to diagnose the problem with your hard drive.
By using a Mac OS X system disk you can load up the Disk Utilities and repair the hard drive if shown it's available. If it's not available you would need to replace the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS. Without any disk to support you, you are going to struggle.
You can obtain replacement disk, both retail copies or system disk on the Internet.
If you know what version of Mac OS X you had install (I'm guessing that it would have been 10.3, but would recommend 10.4) A retail disk is normally black with a colored 'X' on it, while system disk are always.
Always try and obtain a copy of the system restore disks (Gray) for your iBook
Ebay is another outlet that has genuine system disk for sell, but like any auction site, it's as and when someone is selling them.
The only other thing you could do is take it to a Apple repair agent who could check the hard drive on your behalf. That way you can get confirmation if the problem is the drive or some other fault. They may even help restore the OS for you.
I can't think of anything else to try without some form of disk to help you.
There maybe just one other small thing you could try.
When booting up, firmly rest your palm of your hand on the iBook next to the tracker pad on the left side.
If it works then it's another fault that I'm aware of.

Please Help, Finder Icon got dragged on desktop accidently

I accidently dragged my Finder icon from the Dock to the desktop and I don't know how to put it back into Dock. So now my Finder icon from the Dock is on my desktop and it's always on top of any application. I don't know what to do. I hope I didn't break it or anything. Someone please help :'(
P.S. i posted this question in iBook section, before i posted here, sorry for any inconvenience, i don't know how to delete the other one.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Find the com.apple.dock.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences folder, drag it to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and let us know what happens.
Your Dock should return to default appearance and the Finder should once again reside on the Dock.

I have an IPod Nono 2 Gen when connected to Itunes it shows up but when i try to open it it just disapperas from screen and I have to reconnect ipod to get it back. Also I cannot find my Ipod in the Device Manager on my PC, Can anyone help please

My IPOD Nono 2nd Gen showes up in ITunes but when I clike on it it just disapears and the only way to get IPOD Icon back is to disconnect it from PC then reconnect it when agin the icon apperas but when selected just disapears. Also I cannot Find the IPOD in the device Manager on PC not sure if this is cause of problem. The IPOD worked OK up to 4 weeks ago Can any one help please?

Try one or more of the following:
> Restart Your Computer
> Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
> Reset iPod (nothing will get deleted)
> Look in My Computer (Windows 98, XP) OR Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if your iPod is in there.
In some cases (and this happened to me before) plug your iPod in and out your computer a few times. It should get it going. If not, then I strongly recommend starting your computer.
