Finder icon on dock doesn't respond

Hi, the finder icon in the dock does not open any window when I click it. This is problem is limited to my account.

Navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
Let us know.

  • Dragging file to Finder-icon in dock doesn't open Finder

Dragging a file from my desktop (e.g. a jpg) to the Finder Icon (so I can archive it in a folder), doesn't open Finder.
The icon in the dock does blink for a second, and then doesn't open FInder, but shows an empty desktop...
    What to do?

    Thanks Barney,
It works with a window open. I just thought it did also work when there wasn't a window open yet :-)
It used to. I haven't found a hidden preference to turn it back on.

  • Clicking Finder Icon in Dock Doesn't Open New Finder Window

On my MBP with Lion, the left clicking the finder icon does nothing.  It doesn't even change the menu bar focus to finder.    I can right click and then open a new window.    This works like I am accustomed to on my MBP with Lion.
    Any ideas to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Geraldo.

    Open Terminal, type
    killall Dock
and press 'return' on the keyboard.
That will solve the issue temporarily. But to fix it permanently you need to go find the 3rd party software that is causing the conflict, probably in your Login Items if a restart didn't fix it. Look here:
     > System Preferences... > Users & Groups | Login Items
    Likely suspects are things like
    Total Spaces
    Path Finder
    BetterTouchTool
    BetterFinder
but the list of possibilities is endless. Easiset thing to do is just remove EVERYTHING from your login items.

  • Finder icon in dock is corrupted

    Hi all
Today I had the dreaded "dock keeps crashing" problem. That was due to a few photoshop jpgs I put on the downloads folder which weren't properly previewed. After I moved them away, the dock came back, however the finder icon has been damaged somehow.
See the picture (upper border): http://i3.tinypic.com/7x8qedc.png
When I switch apps (command + tab), the same damaged icon is there.
How to get my nice finder icon back to normal?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
The resource image for the Finder icon in the Dock is located here:
    HD/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock/Contents/Resources/finder.png
Control-Click on the Dock app and choose from the contextual menu, "Show Package Contents", to access the Contents/Resources Folders and the Finder .png image is there.
Drag the finder.png file to the Preview app in the Dock to open it. (If you have Preview there, if not you can find it in the Applications Folder of your HD).
Does the image look corrupted in the Preview window?
If yes, then this file will in all likelihood need to be replaced with a good one. We'll look into that if necessary.
If no, then all you may have to do is trash your Dock Preferences. Go to:
    +HD/Users/(Your Home Folder)/Library/Preferences+
Drag the "com.apple.dock.db" and the "com.apple.dock.plist" files to the Trash but do not empty the trash.
Restart your Mac. You will probably have just the Default set of icons in your Dock afterwards and so you will have to put the ones back that you want. If you have any problems then put the files from the Trash back into the Preferences Folder, replacing the other ones...Restart...your Dock should be back as was.
(You can also drag the finder.png file to the Desktop. It will automatically make a copy there).
This should be enough to get you going. Report back.

BTW- Be careful in the System Folder.

  • Finder icon on dock PROBLEM!

    Hi.
After re-installing os in my computer, i observed that when clicking on finder icon at the dock, no finder window is opened. But a new window is open when you use the (Apple+N) keyboard shortcut. No idea that what´s happening. Anyone can help me?
    Many thx.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried trashing Finder prefs?
Navigate to /library/caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxx.csstore. You may have more than one with different negative numbers. Delete all of these.
Then navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences/com.apple.launchservices.plist and delete this also.
Then log out and back in. Or restart. Let us know.

  • Finder Icon in Dock has strange purple color

After booting into Snow Leopard the first time, all the icons in my dock had a strange purple hue. After replacing all these icons they now look OK.
Except for the Finder icon itself. Since I cannot replace it it is stuck in this ugly purple color. Does anyone know of a way to change it, reset it or otherwise fix it?
    Thanks,

Login to another User account. Does it do it there? If not, try trashing your Dock preferences in your main User account.

  • Clicking on Finder icon in Dock no longer opens new Finder window

This behavior just started about a week ago. When I click on the Finder icon in the Dock, nothing happens, even though a new Finder window is supposed to appear. I have gone through the usual fix-its (deleting the Finder plist file, relaunching the Finder via Force Quit), but nothing has worked. Any suggestions as to the cause and possible remedies?

  • Extra Finder icon in Dock

This seems odd...I now have an extra Finder icon in my dock. It's white and appears to have a mini applications folder logo at the bottom of the icon. When I hover the mouse over it, though, it shows up as Finder, and I see the original Finder icon, on the left side of my dock, is now inactive. Any idea how the new Finder icon, which is active, got there? Is there a way to get rid of it? Thanks! -Ken

  • Two finder icons in dock

I had a permissions problem and restored the operating system a few weeks ago. I didn't do a complete restore but the one that fixes the OS stuff. I know have two finder icons located on my dock which one is open and one just sits there not letting me do anything to it. Is there a way I can get rid of the useless one and keep the one that is working. I think it is messing with my fonts and other programs.

    Hi, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First thing I'd try is navigating to /Users/YourHome/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and delete that file. then log out and back in or restart. (You'll have to reset your Dock the way you like it)
If it still returns, let us know.

  • Finder icon on dock pixelated following installation of Parallels Desktop 6x?

Shortly after installing Parallels Desktop 6x, I noticed the Finder icon (in the dock) was pixelated.  I uninstalled Parallels Desktop but the appearance persists?

In coreservices you can click on the finder.app and then right click on it or hit command I.
You will then see the icon in the upper left hand corner. When you click on that icon it will turn blue meaning that it can be copied or you can paste a different icon in.
When finder.app is in coreservices you can not change the icon. The best is to make a copy of finder.app and put it on the desktop you should then be able to change it.
But it does not work for the finder icon it is locked by the os.
This is where the icon is located.
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/finder.png
Navigate to this location and then open up the icon is it pixilated?

  • Mail icon in dock doesn't always show that a new mail has arrived

    Hi,
I have a Tiger installation at work that doesn't always show when a new mail has arrived and I can't figure out why. The Mail icon in the dock doesn't change before you maximize the Mail app.
Does anyone in here know how to fix it, or is it a known bug in Tiger (10.4.3) ?

First of all, Mail must be opened to see the number of new messages in the Mail icon. Have you checked if it's opened?
If it's opened, open Mail app, go to Mail menu > Preferences > General, and check that, in "Dock unread count", it's selected the option you need
